[004] - AltioLive Studio 3.2.2 (Stable)
by Altio Developer Program (http://freshmeat.net/users/altiodev/)
Fri, Sep 3rd 2004 11:03
Database :: Front-Ends
Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: AltioLive Studio enables users to quickly build interactive rich
client front ends to complex Web based applications. Included are a Visual
GUI builder, a backend integration tool, and other development tools, which
allow developers to build the interface for their applications quickly,
remotely, and without touching an XML or Java editor, so that they can get
on with developing the business logic on the backend.
Changes: Support was added for sharing altioserver.xml between two
installations without clustering. You can now provide your own class for
determining the local server, for cases where you share altioserver.xml
between two instances on the same machine. A deadlock in IBM MQSeries when
shutting down is now avoided. Deferred loading of windows now works for
linked views as well. One custom control API method was previously limited
to Java 2. This is now fixed.

[013] - ddrescue 0.4
by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
Fri, Sep 3rd 2004 14:01
System :: Recovery Tools
About: ddrescue copies data from one file or block device (hard disk,
CD-ROM, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue data in case of read
errors. It does not truncate the output file if not asked to. So every
time you run it on the same output file, it tries to fill in the gaps. The
algorithm will: read the non-damaged part of the disk, skipping the damaged
areas; try to read the damaged areas, splitting them into smaller pieces
and reading the non- damaged pieces, until the hardware block size is
reached; try to read the damaged hardware blocks until the specified
number of retries is reached, or until interrupted by the user;
optionally, write a list of bad blocks to a file.
Changes: The project name has been changed to ddrescue to meet GNU command
name standards. Long option names have been added.

[019] - i.Task 0.20
by Matthew Allen (http://freshmeat.net/users/memecode/)
Fri, Sep 3rd 2004 04:42
System :: Diagnostics
System :: Systems Administration
About: i.Task is a small and fast process viewer and terminator for Linux.
It lists all running processes and associated information, allowing the
user to sort by any column. The information displayed includes, process
name, PID, CPU usage/time, owner, priority, threads, memory usage and
process arguments. The context menu allows you to send TERM or KILL
signals to a process. The main benifit of i.Task, apart from the
easy-to-use interface, is that it has far fewer dependencies that other
available process viewers.
Changes: This version adds a status bar showing total CPU and memory use,
and a task count. It also adds a copy command that outputs all the task
information and totals to the clipboard in a nicely formatted text table,
fixes a crash when a process exits during the update phase, adds color
coding of tasks owned by the current user, and adds a history tab for CPU
and memory usage.

[023] - JaxMe 0.3.1 (Incubator)
by Jochen Wiedmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/jochenw/)
Fri, Sep 3rd 2004 06:31
Software Development :: Code Generators
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: JaxMe is a Java/XML binding framework based on SAX2. It consists of
a set of code generators that read an XML schema and generate code for
parsing conformant XML documents into corresponding Java objects, saving
those objects into a database or, vice versa, reading such Java objects
from a database and converting them into XML. JaxMe supports namespaces,
relational databases, and Tamino. JaxMe comes with an integrated
application framework and a generator for EJB entity beans with BMP (bean
managed persistence).
Changes: This is a bugfix release with one major improvement: Recursive
schemas are now supported.

[024] - JaxMeJS 0.3.1
by Jochen Wiedmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/jochenw/)
Fri, Sep 3rd 2004 06:32
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: The JaxMe JavaSource generation framework (a spinoff of the JaxMe
Java/XML binding tool) is an object-oriented view to a set of Java classes
created by you. For example, there are objects JavaSource, JavaMethod, and
so on. Features include automatic generation of import lists,
semiautomatic indentation, and the ability to postprocess generated
sources. This allows source code generation to be a pipelining process.
Additionally, a framework for generating SQL is included.
Changes: This is a bugfix release with only minor changes. It should be
noted, though, that the CVS HEAD now contains a parser for Java source
files, enabling it to replace Java Reflection in the generator with a
simple scan of manually-written files. This typically saves one step in
the generation phase.

About: JaxMeXS is a parser for XML Schema, written in Java. Unlike Xerces
or similar parsers, this one isn't written for validation of conforming
instances, but for schema authors who like to use the schema information
or extend the XML Schema language with private data. An excellent example
is JAXB, the Java/XML binding specification.

[029] - KCachegrind 0.9.9 (Callgrind)
by Josef Weidendorfer (http://freshmeat.net/users/weidendo/)
Fri, Sep 3rd 2004 20:48
Software Development
Software Development :: Testing
About: KCachegrind visualizes profiles of program runs in various ways,
including a tree map and call graph visualization, and source and
assembler annotation. It is designed to be fast and to provide a quick
overview of very large programs, such as KDE applications. A source for
profile data is Callgrind, a Valgrind plugin, which produces call graph
and cache simulation events. While this can run unmodified binaries, the
simulation slows down measuring. For other profile tools like OProfile,
format converters are provided.
Changes: The call-graph generating profiling tool and cache simulator for
Valgrind was renamed to Callgrind. It now supports Valgrind up to version
2.2.0. A new --collect-systime=yes option was added for obtaining the
times spent in system calls. --simulate-cache=no should be used to be
able to load the data into KCachegrind. Cache simulation can be
temporarily switched off to skip execution parts where no measurement is
wanted. This accelerates these parts almost to real-time.

script, which adds a line count prefix to lines sent to a syslog server.
Consecutive numbering from 000 to 100 can be used as a prove that no
syslog output was dropped or lost on the way to the syslog server. The
session identifier is now the 4-digit hex representation of the process
ID. Together with a timestamp it is used as the logfile name. On the
syslog server there still may be colliding session identifiers, but
together with the hostname they are unique. A new -V parameter that shows
the features compiled in was implemented.

site from the manuscript files and simple text files that use an easy
markup language. The result is professional manuscripts or spec scripts.
Changes: fc2sp, which converts fiction files to screenplay files, has been
added. screenplay-fill-dialogue mapped to C-q to fill converted dialogue
paragraphs has been added. Bugs have been fixed, and ruby2latex handles
ampersands correctly.

Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: VisIt is an interactive parallel visualization and graphical
analysis tool for viewing scientific data. Users can quickly generate
visualizations from their data, animate them through time, manipulate
them, and save the resulting images for presentations. VisIt contains a
rich set of visualization features so that you can view your data in a
variety of ways. It can be used to visualize scalar and vector fields
defined on two- and three-dimensional (2D and 3D) structured and
unstructured meshes. It was designed to interactively handle very large
data set sizes in the terascale range, and works well down to small data
sets in the kilobyte range.
Changes: This release adds support for the OVERFLOW file format. It can
save tiled images that include the images from all of the vis windows that
have plots. The Volume plot's hardware accelerated 3D texturing-based
renderer is available for the Windows platform. The "Box" tool has
hotpoints at each face. Automatic file grouping has a "Smart" grouping
mode. Adding time states to a database no longer forces re-execution of
plots. More support has been added for physical units.
