[001] - AOLserver 4.0.8
  by Dossy Shiobara (http://freshmeat.net/users/dossy/)
  Tue, Sep 7th 2004 12:39

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: AOLserver is a multithreaded, Tcl-enabled, massively scalable and
extensible Web server tuned for large scale, dynamic Web sites. It
includes complete database integration, dynamic page scripting, and an
open, extensible architecture.

Changes: This release closes a number of small bugs. One significant
bugfix involves DNS resolution and use of thread-safe getaddrinfo() and
getnameinfo() APIs where available. Heavy users of DNS resolution within
their AOLserver applications are urged to upgrade to this version to
resolve any thread-safety issues surrounding DNS resolution.

[002] - APSR 0.17-05
  by arbon (http://freshmeat.net/users/arbon/)
  Tue, Sep 7th 2004 13:27

System :: Networking

About: APSR is a network testing tool designed to send and receive
arbitrary network packets. Its main purposes are firewall, security,
routing, and a lot of other tests. It can also be used to analyze your
network. The project is split into three main programs: apsend to create
and send packets, aprecv to dump the network traffic, and the apsrlib
which provides the appropriate low-level functions. A very wide range of
protocols are supported by the aprecv program. The application layer is
implemented through modules using a simple API. Modules can be written in
Perl, Ruby, C, or PCL (a special-purpose packet construction language).

Changes: This release removes aacrypt/apsr-gui from the source tree, fixes
minor configure script bugs, adds some features to apsr-stack, and cleans
up some header files of apsrserver.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: asp2php converts WWW Active Server Pages (ASP) files that run on
the Microsoft IIS Web Server into PHP pages to run on Apache.

Changes: This release fixes problems in rnd(), hex literals, MySQL
conversion, and date functions. It adds a command line option for
changing .asp text to .php in the Response.Write functions.

About: aterr is a threaded forum system, allowing registered visitors to
express their opinions, discuss topics, and debate with other visitors. A
threaded forum system differs from regular, flat forum systems in that
once posted, a thread can fork, allowing visitors to reply directly to
other posts. aterr also provides a customisable permissions system, the
ability to nest forums, and moderation tools.

Communications :: BBS
Communications :: Chat
Office/Business :: Groupware

About: Baal Smart Forms is an easy-to-install discussion group
application that supports most normal form features found on other
systems such as registered users, viewing without registration, and
administrators who manage posts and the bulletin board.

Changes: The admin is now able to list all users with their details and
delete users as necessary. Security was enhanced on all critical admin
pages, so the discussion form is much harder to hack.

[007] - Blueproxy 1.1
  by Anil Madhavapeddy (http://freshmeat.net/users/stab/)
  Tue, Sep 7th 2004 13:28

System :: Networking

About: Blueproxy is a simple proxy server to convert Bluetooth RFCOMM
connections into TCP connections. This frees Bluetooth application
programmers from having to worry about getting Bluetooth bindings for
their language of choice. Notable features include sending preambles to
allow a single TCP server to aggregrate multiple Bluetooth sensors, and a
 scanning mode to continuously detect Bluetooth devices entering into
range of a sensor. It currently supports the Linux Bluez stack, FreeBSD
5, and has limited support for Mac OS X.

Changes: This release has code cleanup for stricter compiler flags
(-Wsign-compare -Wshadow), and errant calls to fsync that failed due the
descriptor being a socket have been removed. Indenting is now enforced
courtesy of astyle.

Games/Entertainment :: Simulation

About: Bygfoot is a small and simple football (a.k.a. soccer) manager game
featuring the most important European leagues and cups. You manage a team
from one such league: you form the team, buy and sell players, get
promoted or relegated, and of course try to be successful.

Changes: Extended stadium capacity enlargement possibilities, the
possibility to fire a player, an uninstall possibility for the source
version, a manpage, a global configuration file, and physician quality
(like scout) were added.

About: Bygfoot is a small and simple football (a.k.a. soccer) manager game
featuring the most important European leagues and cups. You manage a team
from one such league: you form the team, buy and sell players, get
promoted or relegated, and of course try to be successful.

Changes: A display of injuries and cards for opponent teams were added in
the match summary. Clicking on a team name in the tables shows the team's
player list. Job offers now show a lot more information on the team
offering the job. A player can now suffer an injury that forces him to
retire. Goals and penalties in regulation and extra time were added.
Player awards and some more team awards (with prize money) at the end of a
season were added.

  Tue, Sep 7th 2004 22:58

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Scientific/Engineering
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX

About: cb2Bib is a convenient application for rapidly extracting
biblographic references from email alerts, journal Web pages, or PDF
files. It facilitates the capture of single references from unformatted
sources. The references are then written in the BibTeX standard. A PDF
file with the article text, if available, can be easily linked and renamed
by dragging it onto the cb2Bib window. Reference manager applications can
later retrieve, import, and display these BibTeX references.

Changes: This version adds a choice for short/long journal names, 'month'
postprocessing, 'Alt D' to delete temporary BibTeX output, 'Alt R' to
start automatic recognition, and proper recognition for 'First I Second,
'.

[013] - Clover framework 1.1.1
  by David Pavlis (http://freshmeat.net/users/dpavlis/)
  Tue, Sep 7th 2004 17:24

Database
Information Management
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: CloverETL is Java-based framework for creating ETL transformations.
It follows the concept of transformation graphs which consist of individual
nodes performing simple operations on data. Any transformation can be
defined as a set of interconnected nodes through which data flows.

Changes: This release introduces two new components, DBFDataReader which
allows reading of dBase-style data files, and ExtFilter which allows
filtering data using complex expressions (AND, OR, NOT operators;
parenthesis). There has been quite significant code refactoring
performed. An interpreter package was introduced, which now supports
filtering conditions, but it should become a full-featured transformation
language interpreter in the future. A new examples package illustrating
the added features was also included.

[014] - Conary 0.9.3
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Tue, Sep 7th 2004 13:22

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather then having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: The new "cvc annotate" feature allows you to determine who has
made changes within a recipe. Changesets that remove a file and replace it
now apply correctly. The "cvc update" command now properly updates the
CONARY state file when file ownership has changed. When generating
FileIds, conary now looks for previous versions of all the packages that
have just been created, not just packages matching the name of the recipe.
Cooking as root is no longer allowed (it has always been discouraged). The
man page has been updated, and several other miscellaneous bugs have been
fixed.

About: Cordova is a solution to source code and database schema
generation. Its focus is on MySQL, Java, and OJB. It provides tools and
plugins to assist in operations of the database, compilation of code, and
code generation. Each module has been created out of need, where no tool
has cleanly existed before. Its direction is towards 2 modes: an ANT task,
and command line without ANT dependencies.

  Tue, Sep 7th 2004 23:02

Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Speech

About: The Cornfed SIP User Agent is a Session Initiation Protocol
(SIP)-based Softphone for your x86 Linux systems. It allows you to make
Internet phone calls using an Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) or
 Open Sound System (OSS) sound card with speakers and microphone as your
telephone handset.

Changes: This version adds Digest authentication of UAC INVITEs. It fixes
a major bug where not all internal URIs were updated from GUI elements
when a UAC registration or UAC INVITE was initiated. It fixes a bug where
the Dial button text was not reset when a non-2xx final response was
received during an INVITE transaction. The documentation was also
updated.

Documentation
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Shells

About: The Heirloom Toolchest is a collection of standard Unix utilities.
It was derived from original Unix material released as open source by
Caldera and contains up to four versions of each utility corresponding to
SVID3/SVR4, SVID4/ SVR4.2MP, POSIX.2/SUSV2, and 4BSD (SVR4 /usr/ucb). It
contains support for lines of arbitrary length and in many cases binary
input data, support for multibyte character sets, especially UTF-8, and
more than 100 individual utilities including bc, cpio, diff, ed, file,
find, grep, man, nawk, oawk, pax, ps, sed, sort, spell, and tar.
Extensive documentation is included.

Changes: The "touch" command ignored any time specifications unless one of
"-a" or "-m" was given since release 040620. Use of snprintf() was made
more friendly to several commercial compilation environments that do not
implement it as in C99. This affects the columnar output for "ls -i", "ls
-s", and longer records in "nawk" and "oawk".

[029] - JFTP2 3.4
  by Sai Pullabhotla (http://freshmeat.net/users/spullabhotla/)
  Tue, Sep 7th 2004 06:24

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
System :: Networking

About: JFTP is a graphical FTP client that allows you to transfer files
securely over the Internet using FTP and SFTP. It includes support for all
basic and advanced FTP tasks, support for SSL with 128-bit encryption,
multiple concurrent FTP sessions, a secured favorites manager, and a
certificate manager. Internationalization and localization is fully
supported, and multiple deployment options are available, including
standard installation, a Java Applet, and Java Web Start.

Changes: This version adds file filters to both local and remote file
systems. File filters let you decide which files may be viewed, uploaded,
downloaded, or deleted with JFTP. You can filter based on a variety of
criteria, such as file name patterns using regular expressions, the
modification date of the files, or attributes of the files. The local file
system view was enhanced to display as much OS-specific file system
information as possible. The ability to change attributes or permissions
on a remote directory recursively was added.

[032] - karma mvc java framework 0.4
  by Oliver Kiessler (http://freshmeat.net/users/okiess/)
  Tue, Sep 7th 2004 13:23

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: karma is a lightweight J2EE application framework based on the
well-known Model View Controller (MVC) pattern. Whereas most other MVC
frameworks heavily depend on a Web context, karma is meant to be reusable
in different J2EE technologies like servlets, EJB, or Web services.
Starting out with a servlet-based default implementation, karma itself
consists of components which are designed in the fashion of inversion of
control components. With this in mind, the servlet, EJB, or Web service
controller (or even pojo) is only a container for the karma components
which are themselves exchangeable through your own implementations.

Changes: This release has karma spring framework integration. Action URL
usage has been disabled for security reasons. There is locale support,
ActionResult and KarmaContext integration into views, code cleanup, and QA
and more JUnit tests.

About: Ryan's In/Out Board (formerly known as Whosin) is a simple and
quick Perl-driven Web-based in/out board for use on intranets and
extranets. Users can change their status by clicking their name or calling
the script with a name parameter, allowing for desktop shortcuts which give
single click "check-in/out" links. Custom and/or default comments can be
added to their status. No database system is required, you just need a Web
server and Perl. A script to check all staff out is also provided, which is
handy if called as an overnight cron job. It uses the Date::EzDate Perl
module.

Changes: An optional new field allows users to add their estimated return
date. An optional new email field has been added to each row. The drop
down box at the bottom of the list will now automatically select the
current user. You can now optionally use a 12-hour date format, though the
default is 24-hour. It is now possible to specify that your clients are in
a different timezone than your server, in which case Ryan's In/Out Board

pared-down SQL implementation but retains useful features such as timeout
record locking and search engine comparison operators. A shsql database
can be updated via SQL, or by editing data files with a text editor.
Applications link to the supplied "C" language API. There is also a
command-line SQL utility.

Changes: This version was updated to synchronize with quisp 1.26.

[063] - Smarty PHP template engine 2.6.4
  by Monte Ohrt (http://freshmeat.net/users/mohrt/)
  Tue, Sep 7th 2004 12:29

Software Development

About: Smarty is a template engine for PHP. Many other template engines
for PHP provide basic variable substitution and dynamic block
functionality. Smarty takes a step further to be a "smart" template
engine, adding features such as configuration files, template functions,
and variable modifiers, and making all of this functionality as easy as
possible to use for both programmers and template designers. Smarty also
converts the templates into PHP scripts, eliminating the need to parse the
templates on every invocation. This makes Smarty extremely scalable and
managable for large application needs.

Changes: {$smarty.ldelim} and {$smarty.rdelim} have been added as
alternatives to {ldelim} and {rdelim}. html_select_date now works with
negative timestamps. {fetch}ing URLs with user/pass now works.
html_checkboxes and html_radios output can now be assigned to an array for
further processing.

[066] - SOPE Application Server 4.3.6
  by OpenGroupware.org (http://freshmeat.net/users/helge5/)
  Tue, Sep 7th 2004 17:18

Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: The SOPE package is an extensive set of frameworks (16 frameworks,
~1500 classes) which form a complete Web application server environment.
Besides the Apple WebObjects compatible appserver extended with Zope
concepts, it contains a large set of reusable classes: XML processing
(SAX, DOM, XML-RPC), MIME/IMAP4 processing, LDAP connectivity, RDBMS
connectivity, and iCalendar parsing. The parts of the package can be used
stand-alone (e.g. in Cocoa applications) and do not require the appserver
parts. For MacOSX developers, the package includes SOPE:X, which contains
special Xcode and Cocoa support for SOPE.

Changes: This release contains a reworked internal module structure.
Major new features include that SOPE can now be installed into FHS
locations (/usr or /usr/local), doesn't require the GNUstep environment
at runtime, and works with flattened GNUstep trees. In addition a lot of
hard dependencies on third-party packages were removed.

[076] - Wagtail 0.4

  Tue, Sep 7th 2004 17:28

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion

About: Wagtail is a client/server-based tool for audio encoding. It is
designed to make it easier to encode and organize files in bulk. Wagtail
allows you to enforce standards across your media collection with the use
of "formats", each describing an audio format, how to encode/tag, etc. It
also uses "classes", a combintation of formats and quality settings, as
well as "tasks", which set the naming conventions, file locations, and
reprocessing stages for files, and restricts which classes can be used. It
includes wagdisc for ripping CDs and wagfile for processing files.

Changes: Support for multiple options in configuration files was added,
with Wagfile selecting the most suitable. This allows much greater
flexibility in task specification. Support for FTP transfers was added.
Sample configuration files were improved. Clients now use a common task
description file format. Various bugfixes and minor enhancements were
made.

[077] - Webcomics Collector 0.7.1 (Development)

  Tue, Sep 7th 2004 17:26

Internet
Utilities

About: Webcomics Collector is a Python script for downloading webcomics.
It is somewhat similar to dailystrips, but with a different approach to
getting the strips. Where dailystrips uses dates to generate URLs or
regexps, with archive download only being possible with generated URLs
(and often not working correctly), collector uses regexps to grab all
URLs, and makes it possible to download archives no matter what naming
scheme the comic uses.

Changes: This release features support for a date-generated archive URL,
I18N support (with a Danish translation only so far), 14 new comics, and
some bugfixes.
