[001] - ACal Project 2.2.2
  by Arthur Wiebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/artooro/)
  Thu, Sep 9th 2004 11:03

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: The ACal Project is a Web-based event calendar made for everyone.
It was designed to be simple to install and setup. It does not require a
database server, and installing is as easy as drag and drop.

Changes: A bug has been fixed where you could install without giving a
username and password, which let you log in with blank fields. A bug has
been fixed where when clicking on a single-digit day in the month view,
the URL would not be formatted correctly, and would cause the events to
load improperly.

About: The ActiveBPEL engine is a robust runtime environment capable of
executing process definitions created according to the Business Process
Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS, or just BPEL) 1.1
specifications.

Changes: This release adds some performance enhancements, and fixes some
RPC complex type handling issues. Synchronization of in-memory and
persistent versions of engine config was improved, as was the shutdown
code. WSDL cache size was added to engine configuration. Alarm manager
improvements were made. A doc literal namespace issue was fixed. Note that
if you use persistence, you will have to rebuild the database tables. The
table formats have changed (and may continue to change for a while as the
persistence code matures).

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: Blob Wars: Metal Blob Solid is a 2D mission-based platform game.
Since their world was invaded by an alien race, the Blobs have faced a
lifetime of war. But now they have a chance to win the war once and for
all. In Episode I: Metal Blob Solid, you take on the role of a fearless
Blob agent, Bob. Bob's mission is to infiltrate the various enemy bases
around the Blobs' homeworld and rescue as many POWs as possible. But
standing in his way are many vicious enemies, other Blobs who have
defected and the evil alien leader, Galdov.

  Thu, Sep 9th 2004 09:08

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Software Development :: Version Control
Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS

About: Cervisia is a KDE graphical frontend for the CVS client. It
features checking out a module from a repository, updating or retrieving

revisions, annotated view of a file, view of the log messages in tree and
list form as well as resolving of conflicts in a file.

Changes: Support was added for checkout of a module without the CVS
administrative folders and for a checkout under an alias name. The entered
text in the commit dialog and changelog dialog is now spell-checked. The
diff options used to create a patch are now configurable. The ability to
create a patch between arbitrary revisions was added to the log dialog.
The context menu for the file view has a new "Edit With" menu. A major
rework was done to the handbook, with updates, new screenshots, and
several added sections. Especially, CVS newbies will find it much easier

[009] - chroot_safe 1.2
  by Henrik Nordstrom (http://freshmeat.net/users/hno/)
  Thu, Sep 9th 2004 09:24

Security
System :: Systems Administration

About: chroot_safe is a alternative method for chrooting dynamically
linked applications in a sane and safe manner. By using a little dynamic
linking trick it delays the chrooting until after dynamic linking has
completed, thereby eleminating the need to have a copy of the binary or
libraries within the chroot. This greatly simplifies the process of
chrooting an application, as you often do not need any files besides the
data files within the chroot. In addition to chrooting the application,
it also drops root privileges before allowing the application to start.

Changes: This version is an update to increase portability. The software
is now verified on Solaris in addition to Linux and FreeBSD, and is
expected to run on almost any Unix-like system with LD_PRELOAD support.
NEED_SETUID_WRAP is now enabled by default to nullify any setuid/setgid
system calls to always return success.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: The Internet Document And Report Server (IDRS) is a full Web
development platform. All pages are built using an XML like dialect called
the Reporting Markup Language (RML), can be generated using data from any
JDBC complient database, and mostly require no programming logic. For
reports that do require programming logic, RML pages can also use external
Java classes and embedded JPython and BeanShell scripts for a higher level
of control. Features of the IDRS include user-based security, data
connection pooling for use by both the central IDRS system and by
individual reports, and multiple databases to be used for each report and
JSP.

Changes: The IDRS Project has announced an integration with Apache Axis to
create a page-based paradigm for building document Web services. The POC is
a simple implementation of a DSMLv2 (Directory Services Markup Language)
search. Enhancements include the use of the Java API for XML Binding
(JAXB) to parse the request XML into a consistent object model based on an
XML Schema and response documents that are generated directly to a Document
Object Model, allowing for XSL and other transformations to occur without
excess parsing.

Changes: An empty contentValues method was added for Issue Dealer
objects, which fixes bugs for CMF applications that rely on objects
having contentValues defined. The filter view was removed from CMF as
filters can't be created at the moment. WYSIWYG editing of Issues in CMF
was implemented, and bug where comments could be posted on the weblog even

About: Plop is a PHP software to make personal or small Web sites in a
simple way. It works like a catch-all request script and is inspired by
Apache's directory indexing, but with many more features. It can apply a
skin to all pages, handle photo galleries, collections of links, form
processing, to-do lists, resource lists, and much more, all just by
changing the extension of a directory. It works without any database; just
with files, directories, and plugins.

[066] - tdbSQL 0.8
  by Thomas F (http://freshmeat.net/users/psypath/)
  Thu, Sep 9th 2004 03:41

Database :: Database Engines/Servers

About: tdbSQL is a complete implementation of an EASY SQL server for the
tdbengine RDBMS. It is a client-server solution that can be accessed via
TCP and makes it possible to access tdbengine DBs from languages other
than EASY, including Perl, PHP, C, C++, C#, and Java. It combines the
perfomance of the tdbengine with the feeling and standards of other SQL
databases and features integrated rights management.

Changes: SELECT statements now lead to real database tables instead of
string arrays. The SQL knowledge was expanded massively, and full-text
indexing and searching was fully implemented. User and rights management
now works with a 3-level logic. Maintaining of databases is now fully
supported by the known SQL syntax. Mistakes in query syntax are now
detected by the parser and lead to defined error handling instead of
hangups.
