[001] - AcpiTool 0.2.5
by DLeemans (http://freshmeat.net/users/dleemans/)
Sun, Sep 12th 2004 20:47
System
System :: Systems Administration
About: AcpiTool is a Linux ACPI client. It's a small command line
application, intended to be a replacement for the apm tool. The primary
target audience are laptop users, since these people are most interested
in things like battery status, thermal status and the ability to suspend
(sleep mode). The program simply accesses the /proc/acpi or /sysfs entries
to get/set acpi values. Hence, a computer running a Linux kernel from the
2.4.x or 2.6.x series with ACPI enabled is needed.
Changes: This release has initial support for CPU information like type,
speed, and power management capabilities.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: cpdetector is a small yet clever framework for codepage detection
that integrates different strategies. It may be used as a library for
third party software (search engines, file sharing software, browsers, or
any software that accesses textual data over network). Additionally a
best-practice implementation in form of a command line tool that allows
sorting and transforming large collections of documents based on their
codepage is provided. Currently two strategies are shipped: a facade to
jchardet (exclusion, frequency analysis and guessing) and a facade to an
ANTLR parser/lexer combination that searches for the HTML charset
property.

Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
About: EditiX is a cross-platform and multi-purpose XML/XSLT editor, which
helps Web authors and programmers use XML and XML-related technologies,
such as XSLT, FO, and XSD schemas. It provides a lot of functionality
within a refined IDE, which guides the user with intelligent entry
helpers, and has real-time XPath location and syntax error detection. It
allows the user to apply an XSLT or FO transformation, and shows the
result in a separate view. It includes default templates for XML, DTD,
XHTML, XSLT, XSD, XML RelaxNG, SVG, MathML, and XML FO.
Changes: About 40 changes. Mainly, a new XSLT Debugger that helps users to
analyze its XSL transformation processing. This debugger has breakpoints
for displaying the current nodes stack, the current XPath expression
nodes, or the set of variables. A multi-view preview is available at each
moment for visualizing, for instance, an HTML document output. It
introduces DocBook support. The user can generate a document in PDF, HTML,
PS, etc. in the background. Shortkeys and project management are dedicated
to limited the user parameters. Remote access is available for FTP and
WebDAV. ZIP and JAR are supported.

[014] - fli4l 2.1.8 (Development)
by Tobias Gruetzmacher (http://freshmeat.net/users/tobig/)
Sun, Sep 12th 2004 11:21
System :: Operating System
About: fli4l is a single-floppy Linux-based ISDN/DSL/ethernet-router. It
features configuration with some simple ASCII-files, several possible
connection-flavors (in/out/callback, and raw IP/PPP), channel bundling (an
extra channel can be added through a Windows/Unix-client), configuration of
multiple networks, least-cost routing, automatic choice of provider,
display/calculation of connection times and costs, and a Windows/Unix
client to control dial/hangup, monitor traffic and monitor incoming calls
on ISDN (see screenshot).
Changes: The kernel is now patched with some parts of grsecurity. More
flexible boot handling was added, which should make it possible to support
more different boot media. Routers can be switched off automatically if APM
is supported. The packet filter has a more flexible configuration. A new
time server package using chrony was added. Support for Fritz!Card DSL
USB, Fritz!X USB, and Fritz!Card USB was added. There are software updates

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: FOX is a C++-based toolkit for GUI development. It includes a rich
set of widgets and has powerful yet simple layout managers, MDI widgets,
and mega-widgets. FOX incorporates support for XDND for drag and drop, X
clipboard and X Selection, watching other I/O channels and sockets, timers
and idle processing, object serialization and deserialization, a registry
to save persistent settings, and 3D widgets using Mesa or OpenGL. FOX
works on Linux, IRIX, Solaris, HP/UX, AIX, Tru64 Unix, Windows 9x,NT,2K
(VC++, GNUWIN32, Borland, VisualAge C++), FreeBSD, and Sequent.
Changes: A new standard dialog, FXChoiceBox, allows picking an item from a
list and should be easy to use. A new API has been added to FXApp:
awaken(). This can be called by other threads to wake up the main user
interface thread. It also causes a GUI update cycle, so you can call this
in case a thread has changed something that needs to be reflected in the
user interface. A new layout manager, FXDockSite, has been added.

[018] - GalaxyHack 0.71
by James Gregory (http://freshmeat.net/users/jamesgregory/)
Sun, Sep 12th 2004 06:20
Games/Entertainment :: Real Time Strategy
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
About: GalaxyHack allows you to design a fleet of spaceships which can
then be tested in AI script based battles against fleets designed by other
players. Though battles take place in real time, the strategy comes
beforehand, both in writing short AI scripts in an easy-to-use proprietary
scripting language, and also in the set up and selection of your forces.
Changes: The AI interpreter was rewritten, which means that amongst other
things the game is no longer anywhere near as sensitive to the number of
spaces you may or may not have between each token. A bug which meant
small ships would fire torpedoes when absolutely miles away from their
target, even when not asked to fire at all, was fixed. The bug that
meant zipping up a fleet only worked in Linux was also fixed.

[020] - GNU Pth 2.0.2
by Ralf S. Engelschall (http://freshmeat.net/users/rse/)
Sun, Sep 12th 2004 11:04
Software Development :: Libraries
About: GNU Portable Threads (Pth) is a very portable POSIX/ANSI-C based
library for Unix platforms providing non-preemptive priority-based
scheduling for multiple threads of execution ("multithreading") inside
server applications. All threads run in the same address space, but each
thread has its own individual program-counter, run-time stack, signal mask
and errno variable. The scheduling is done in a cooperative way, i.e. the
threads are dispatched based on priority and pending events. The event
facility allows threads to wait until various types of events occur,
including pending I/O on filedescriptors, elapsed timers, pending I/O on
message ports, thread and process termination, and even customized
callback functions.
Changes: "hard syscall wrappers" have been added for send(2) and recv(2).
This release internally handles errors returned from pth_event(), cleans
up the C source for GCC 3.5 and m4 source for Autoconf 2.59, avoids
side-effects by defining _XOPEN_SOURCE only temporarily, fixes the
prototype for pthread_attr_setschedparam(3), and upgrades the build
environment to GNU libtool 1.5.8 and GNU shtool 2.0.1.

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: User Interfaces
About: libpropc++ is a template library for properties in C++ which can be
used like 'widget.color = "red";' to change widget color. Values of several
properties can be "bound together" so that when one property changes,
others automatically change accordingly. Binding can be unidirectional or
mutual, with a transforming functor, etc. A part of the functionality of
libsigc++ (a C++ "signal programming", i.e. Observer Pattern, library) is
reimplemented.
Changes: This release adds binding properties: values of several
properties can be kept synchronized with each other automatically. A
partial reimplementation of libsigc++ (a C++ signalling library) has been
added. "simple properties" that can be added to any object have been
added. There are better API docs and other minor changes.

About: minimap (minimalistic IMAP) is a non-compliant dummy IMAP server to
allow a user to subscribe to the server and drag mail items from another
server into either INBOX or "Junk E-mail", which are the only two (fake)
mailboxes supported. The intention is for the APPEND command to be used to
upload spam and ham in order for a Bayesian mailer such as spamprobe to
have a feedback mechanism for retraining. This is for sites where the spam
filtering is being done on-the-fly with an SMTP filter before the email
gets to the final delivery system. This dummy IMAP server would therefore
run on the filter box. It is a suitable companion program for the

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Operating System
About: OSSP uuid is an ISO-C API and corresponding CLI for the generation
of DCE 1.1 and ISO/IEC 11578:1996 compliant Universally Unique Identifiers
(UUIDs). It supports DCE 1.1 variant UUIDs of version 1 (time and node
based), version 3 (name based), and version 4 (random number based). UUIDs
are 128 bit numbers which are intended to have a high likelihood of
uniqueness over space and time and are computationally difficult to guess.
They are globally unique identifiers which can be locally generated without
contacting a global registration authority. UUIDs are intended as unique
identifiers for both mass tagging objects with an extremely short lifetime
and to reliably identify very persistent objects across a network.

About: Franki and Earlgrey Linux are proof-of-concept Linux distributions
for small and embedded-class systems whose configuration is controlled by
a loosely-knit suite of scripts designed to produce utility toolchains,
known as STUBS. STUBS (the Toolchain and Utility Build Suite) is driven by
an easily-tailored set of configuration files and acquires the requisite
sources by download. Subject to runtime dependencies, it is capable of
working within the Franki Linux environment.

[068] - Supybot 0.80.0pre1
by jemfinch (http://freshmeat.net/users/jemfinch/)
Sun, Sep 12th 2004 21:44
Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
About: Supybot is a clearly-written Python IRC framework and bot, intended
to be both easily extensible and very flexible. Several modules are
included by default. Numerous plugins are already written, including
Google, Factoids, RSS, Quotes, and Relay. Plugins and their commands
achieve greater utility via command nesting, something that no other IRC
bot does. The user database is based on "capabilities" rather than obscure
flags or arbitrary numeric "userlevels", giving the bot flexibility and
fine-grained control (think ACLs vs. standard *nix permissions).
Developing your own additions to the bot is simple with the base classes
provided; writing a new command for the bot is as simple as writing a
function. Unlike many other IRC frameworks, this simplicity is achieved at
no cost to generality, which lets new programmers and old programmers alike
feel at home in the framework.
Changes: The framework is now in place for writing varying database
backends for database-based plugins. Users can configure which databases
they have, and plugins with matching databases can be loaded easily. A new
Insult plugin was added for colorful, creative insults along with a new
UrbanDict plugin for looking up definitions on UrbanDictionary.com.
Geekquote-related stuff was augmented and split off into its own plugin,
and an Observer plugin that watches for regular expressions in the channel
and run commands based on them was added. Network-related commands were
split into their own plugin.

[075] - Ultra-Performance UDPForwarder 4.11
by ocr.ATI*Aiwa (http://freshmeat.net/users/Aiwa/)
Sun, Sep 12th 2004 11:08
Games/Entertainment
Internet :: Proxy Servers
About: UDPForwarder listens on multiple ports to forward incoming UDP
datagrams from clients to the corresponding server and forwards the
server's response back to the client. This works 100% transparently, so
clients think they are talking to the forwarder and the server does not
notice the clients' real IP. It was initially designed to work as a
transparent relay for online game traffic (static routing). It might be
useful for hiding IPs or tricking firewalls. Its motivation and advantage
over existing tools is its uncompromising focus on performance, which is
crucial when dealing with hundreds and thousands of datagrams per second
without allowing any rise in response time.
Changes: This release compiles on GCC 3.3/3.4 and MSVC 7.1, has increased
ISO C++ conformity, and has minor memory and performance optimizations.
