Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Chat :: AOL Instant Messenger
Communications :: Chat :: ICQ

About: AutoProfile is an extension to Gaim that allows users to create
customized away messages and profiles using dynamic "components" that
automatically update on a regular basis. Generated text can include song
names from XMMS, Winamp, iTunes, or Windows Media Player, statistics
regarding saved conversation logs, a countdown/countup timer, fortune
quotes, computer uptime, the contents of a Web page or a text file, the
output of a program, and timestamps. A large number of options allows
users to fully customize the program as they see fit.

Changes: A large amount of minor bugs have been fixed in this version.
Auto-responses work again, uptime is fixed on Solaris (and several other)
systems, log statistics now include people who have not been contacted
since Gaim started using the new logging format, log statistics handle
HTML logs properly, Makefiles should now find header files properly, and
the program should not crash either in the preferences menu or when using
both Gaim and AutoProfile away at the same time.

[010] - Bricolage 1.8.2 (Stable)
  by David Wheeler (http://freshmeat.net/users/Theory/)
  Mon, Sep 13th 2004 12:14

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Bricolage is a full-featured, enterprise-class content management
and publishing system. It offers a browser-based interface for ease of
use, a templating system with complete HTML::Mason, HTML::Template, and
Template Toolkit support for flexibility, and many other features. It
operates in an Apache/mod_perl environment, and uses PostgreSQL for its
repository.

Changes: This maintenance release addresses quite a large number of issues
in Bricolage 1.8.1. The most important changes have been made to enhance
Unicode support. Bricolage now internally handles all text content as
UTF-8 strings, enabling templates to better control the manipulation of
multibyte characters. Other changes include better performance for
searches using the ANY() operators and more intelligent transaction
handling for distribution jobs.

[011] - cacti 0.8.6 (Development)
  by Ian Berry (http://freshmeat.net/users/raxnet/)
  Mon, Sep 13th 2004 12:27

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Cacti is a complete frontend to RRDTool. It stores all of the
necessary information to create graphs and populate them with data in a
MySQL database. The frontend is completely PHP driven. Along with being
able to maintain graphs, data sources, and round robin archives in a
database, Cacti also handles the data gathering. There is SNMP support for
those used to creating traffic graphs with MRTG.

Changes: This release features a redesigned poller architecture at its
core. All users will benefit from the multiple simultaneous poller process
support, making polling times many times shorter in some cases. There are
also new features related to logging, graph time spans/zooming, graph
exportation, graph trees, and host availability detection. Plenty of bugs
have been fixed, as well.

[012] - Candygram 1.0 beta 2
  by Mike Hobbs (http://freshmeat.net/users/hobb0001/)
  Mon, Sep 13th 2004 14:06

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: Candygram is a Python implementation of Erlang concurrency
primitives. Erlang is widely respected for its elegant built-in
facilities for concurrent programming. This package attempts to emulate
those facilities as closely as possible in Python. With Candygram,
developers can send and receive messages between threads using semantics
nearly identical to those in the Erlang language.

Changes: The behavior of list patterns has been changed to repeat the last
element. A single Receiver object may now be used by multiple processes. A
Receiver.removeHandler() method has been added. This release can pass a
Process subclass to spawn() and spawnLink(). A new wxProcess example class
integrates Candygram with wxPython. The FAQ has been updated.

Software Development :: Compilers

About: ccache is a fast compiler cache. It is used as a front end to your
compiler to safely cache compilation output. When the same code is
compiled again the cached output is used giving a significant speedup
(typically 5x).

Changes: The CCACHE_READONLY option was added. The CACHE_TEMPDIR option
was added. Handling of hard-linked compilers on AIX was fixed. O_BINARY
support was added to try to support Win32 compilation. The cache directory
is shown in stats output. Handling of the HOME environment variable was
fixed.

[015] - Codestriker 1.8.3
  by David Sitsky (http://freshmeat.net/users/sits/)
  Mon, Sep 13th 2004 15:39

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development
Software Development :: Bug Tracking

About: Codestriker is a Web application that supports online code review.
Traditional document reviews are supported, as well as reviewing diffs
generated by an SCM (Source Code Management) system and plain unidiff
patches. There are integration points with CVS, Subversion, Clearcase,
Perforce, Visual SourceSafe, and Bugzilla. There is a plug-in architecture
for supporting other SCMs and issue tracking systems. It minimizes paper
work, ensures that issues, comments, and decisions are recorded in a
database, and provides a comfortable workspace for actually performing
code inspections. An optional highly-configurable metrics subsystem allows
you to record code inspection metrics as a part of your process.

Changes: A configurable list of issue metrics can now be associated with
each comment raised in a review, which are incorporated into the metrics
reporting system. Support for remote CVS repositories using :ext and SSH
are now supported. The Clearcase diff parser can handle more corner cases.
The Perforce repository support is updated to handle older p4 versions. The
Subversion diff parser can handle property set changes. It can now easily
create CVS topics given just a single tag and a module parameter in the
create topic screen. There are several other minor changes.

[016] - darcs 1.0.0rc2
  by David Roundy (http://freshmeat.net/users/droundy/)
  Mon, Sep 13th 2004 05:36

Software Development :: Version Control

About: Darcs is an advanced revision control system along the lines of CVS
or arch. It has two particularly distinctive features which differ from
other revision control systems: each copy of the source is a fully
functional branch, and underlying it is a consistent and powerful theory
of patches. In spite of its power, darcs is simple to use, in part because
of the symmetry that is restored by making each copy of the repository a
branch.

Changes: A few minor bugs were fixed, and a few minor feature enhancements
were made, including a new "reportbug" command. Although it is not enabled
by default, a new "antimemoization" memory optimization is included, which
is worth testing for users with large repositories but without large
quantities of memory.

About: Ebotula is an IRC bot for administration tasks in one or more
channels. It has four access levels. The top level is the bot master,
where a user has complete access to all functions. The channel owner is
the administrator in one channel. The other levels are friends and other
users. The bot is a multithread application and can execute more commands
simultaneously. The data are contained in gdbm hash files.

Changes: This release removes a large number of memory leaks, a problem
with counting commands, and the segmentation faults caused by a few
commands. It features support of nls with a German language file and a new
concept for the debug logging. This logging has a separate configuration
parameter; it controls the debug level.

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Digital Camera
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Exiv2 is an EXIF and IPTC C++ library that makes reading and
writing Exif and Iptc metadata easy. Exif makernote tags can be
manipulated just like the standard Exif tags. Exif thumbnails can be
extracted and deleted. The library is documented with Doxygen. The Exiv2
command line utility prints Exif and Iptc metadata and Makernote tags in
various formats, adjusts Exif timestamps, renames images according to the
Exif timestamp, extracts and inserts Exif metadata, or deletes the
thumbnail or all Exif metadata from an image.

Changes: This release adds support for Iptc metadata. Iptc datasets can
now be manipulated (read and written) similar to Exif metadata. In
connection with the Iptc feature, the existing Metadatum Key and Value
concept was enhanced and the JPEG file access code was revamped. The exiv2
utility has a new print option to show the Iptc metadata of a JPEG image.
Also, this release adds a configure script and MSVC project files.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)

About: getmail is intended as a simple, secure, and reliable replacement
for fetchmail. It retrieves email (either all messages, or only unread
messages) from one or more POP3, SPDS, or IMAP4 servers (with or without
SSL) for one or more email accounts, and reliably delivers into
qmail-style Maildirs, mboxrd files, or through external MDAs (command
deliveries) specified on a per-account basis. getmail also has excellent
support for domain (multidrop) mailboxes, including delivering messages to
different users or destinations based on the envelope recipient address.

Changes: Getmail would not delete messages from the server if it was
configured not to retrieve them and the delete_after directive was not in
use (i.e. user normally left messages on server but occasionally wanted to
force-delete them). This has been fixed.

The player has to choose the number of units they want for the different
tasks, and the units will do their best to satisfy the requests. This
allows the player to manage more units and to focus on the strategy.

Changes: The OpenGL backend is more usable and has full double buffering
support in the GUI. There are new graphics and new music. There is a new
gradient subsystem that is much faster on big maps, a new load/save
(serialization) structure, an IRC client that connects to #glob2 on
freenode while on YOG, and new eye-candy effects in the GUI. The AINumbi

About: Gmsh is an automatic 3D finite element grid generator (primarily
Delaunay) with built-in CAD and post-processing facilities. Its design
goal is to provide a simple meshing tool for academic problems with
parametric input and up to date visualization capabilities. It is built
around four modules: geometry, mesh, solver, and post-processing. The
specification of any input to these modules is done either interactively
using the graphical user interface (based on FLTK and OpenGL) or in ASCII
text files using Gmsh's own scripting language.

Changes: This release adds a new post-processing option to draw scalar
views raised by displacement maps without using Plugin(DisplacementRaise).
This makes drawing arbitrary scalar fields on deformed meshes much easier.
It also fixes a couple of lighting bugs present in 1.55.0.

About: Gourmet Recipe Manager is a simple but powerful recipe managing
application that is intended for the GNOME desktop environment, but
should work on any platform that Gtk supports. It allows you to collect,
search, and organize your recipes, and to automatically generate shopping
lists from your collection. It aims to make it easy to enter and
organize your recipes with an intuitive interface.

Changes: This release supports complex ingredient lists, allowing for
grouping of ingredients and for calling for recipes as ingredients.
Improvements were made to the importing of Mealmaster files and in the
Web page generator. A number of UI improvements were made, including a
truly "spatial" interface where recipe cards remember where you left them
between sessions. Drag-n-drop support was implemented for rearranging
ingredients and copying ingredient lists from a Web browser or other

own search layouts by tweaking your MLDonkey setup. KMLDonkey can now
launch and shut down the core automatically, with a new wizard to guide
you through a basic setup.

[089] - OSSP mm 1.3.1
  by Ralf S. Engelschall (http://freshmeat.net/users/rse/)
  Mon, Sep 13th 2004 01:55

Software Development :: Libraries

About: OSSP mm is a 2-layer abstraction library which simplifies the usage
of shared memory between related processed under Unix platforms. It both
hides all platform dependent implementation details (allocation, locking,
etc.) when dealing with shared memory segments and provides a high-level
malloc-style API for a convenient way to work with data-structures inside
those shared memory segments.

Changes: The build environment was updated to use GNU Shtool 2.0.1, GNU
Libtool 1.5.8, and Autoconf 2.59.

[090] - OSSP val 0.9.3
  by Ralf S. Engelschall (http://freshmeat.net/users/rse/)
  Mon, Sep 13th 2004 01:54

Software Development :: Libraries

About: OSSP val is a flexible name-to-value mapping library for ISO-C
variables. It allows one to access ISO-C variables through name strings,
although the ISO-C language provides neither such a dedicated facility nor
an evaluation construct (which could be used to implement such a facility
easily). In general, this is used for accessing ISO-C variables without
having to know the actual symbol/address. The typical use cases are in
combination with flexible configuration parsing and supporting
loosely-coupled DSO-based module architectures.

Changes: The build environment was updated to use GNU libtool 1.5.8 and
GNU shtool 2.0.1.

[091] - OSSP var 1.1.1
  by Ralf S. Engelschall (http://freshmeat.net/users/rse/)
  Mon, Sep 13th 2004 01:54

Software Development :: Libraries

About: OSSP var is a flexible, full-featured, and fast variable construct
expansion library. It supports a configurable variable construct syntax
very similar to the style found in many scripting languages (like name,
${name}, $(name), etc.) and provides both simple scalar (${name}) and
array (${name[index]}) expansion, plus optionally one or more
post-operations on the expanded value (${name:op:op...}). The supported
post-operations are length determination, case conversion, defaults,
postive and negative alternatives, sub-strings, regular expression-based
substitutions, character translations, and padding. Additionally, a
meta-construct plus arithmetic expressions for index and range
calculations allow (even nested) iterations over array variable expansions
(..[..${name[#+1]}..]..). The actual variable value lookup is performed
through a callback function, so OSSP var can expand arbitrary values.

Changes: The build environment was updated to use GNU libtool 1.5.8 and
GNU shtool 2.0.1.

[106] - Smarty PHP template engine 2.6.5
  by Monte Ohrt (http://freshmeat.net/users/mohrt/)
  Mon, Sep 13th 2004 20:08

Software Development

About: Smarty is a template engine for PHP. Many other template engines
for PHP provide basic variable substitution and dynamic block
functionality. Smarty takes a step further to be a "smart" template
engine, adding features such as configuration files, template functions,
and variable modifiers, and making all of this functionality as easy as
possible to use for both programmers and template designers. Smarty also
converts the templates into PHP scripts, eliminating the need to parse the
templates on every invocation. This makes Smarty extremely scalable and
managable for large application needs.

[122] - wordcircle 2.11
  by Matt Reider (http://freshmeat.net/users/wordcircle/)
  Mon, Sep 13th 2004 23:17

About: Wordcircle is a program for teachers or professors and their
students. Teachers can log in and create courses and give a course key to
to their students. Courses consist of these parts: an overview, a
calendar, discussion groups, course materials (files and links), and a
robust project module for students to publish work and enter journal
entries.

Changes: This release adds calendar functionality, and fixes category
listing, as some servers were escaping quotes on database inserts. This
version also adds htmlspecialchars to edit pages, changes the install
script warning and help files to allow for upgrades, adds the ability to
click on a user's name in a message and see all messages from that user,
adds the email listed with the user, now sorts the user list by user or
course, and splits the course materials view so links are separate from
files. It fixes the hover feature of the calendar and the file upload.

computers by generated RPMs.

Changes: The partitioning scheme for a computer is now chosen according to
its number of hard drives. Support for having different RedHat/Fedora
releases in your network at the same time was improved.
