[001] - Addendat 0.8
by Deekoo L. (http://freshmeat.net/users/deekoo/)
Thu, Sep 16th 2004 00:09
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: Addendat is a weblogging (blogging) program that can accept updates
from either a CGI interface or a shell interface. Additions are stored in
the 'blogs pages HTML, so you can edit both entries and design in any
ordinary text editor. It is configured using a simple HTML-like config
file format and supports multiple blogs, even on the same page. It does
not require Java or JavaScript and can publicize additions on a central
hub, making it easy for Web users to find recently-updated blogs. It
supports comments and archiving, and can post entries to LiveJournal.
Changes: A bug that would result in the creation of zero-byte blog entries
when the program was accessed with an invalid argument (which several
search engines do) was fixed. The install script was changed and a bug in
URL-escaping for LiveJournal leaves was fixed.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: AdminPro is a user authentication class based on MySQL and the PHP
Session functions. It was written for Web sites that need some password
protected areas. It includes a user management application script and a
MySQL table setup application script. The class can allow a user to login
and logout via Web-based forms, expire the session of an authenticated
user if it passed a given session timeout, display error messages and
point the user to the login page when the user is not authenticated or the
login session expired, and check whether a logged user has administrator
privileges
Changes: The setup application will now allow a user to modify an existing
AdminPro Class MySQL Table as well, by using SQL statements. The existing
MySQL table (and its data) will remain compatible with the AdminPro Class,
even if the table structure changes in future versions. An SQL patch to
update the table from 1.2 (initially published) to 1.3.x is included.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: The mission of the Apache Portable Runtime (APR) project is to
create and maintain software libraries that provide a predictable and
consistent interface to underlying platform- specific implementations. The
primary goal is to provide an API to which software developers may code
and be assured of predictable if not identical behaviour regardless of
the platform on which their software is built, relieving them of the need
to code special-case conditions to work around or take advantage of
platform-specific deficiencies or features.

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather then having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: Infrastructure support for enforcing dependency checks was addde.
The code that enforces the checks is currently disabled, but will be
enabled when dependency resolution is added and a database conversion
mechanism is provided. Applying a changeset that unhard-links files now
works, the conary rq command's --info option now works, and its --ls
option works for troves that exist in multiple repositories. conary update
now installs multiple flavors of a trove (selecting appropriate flavors
will be implemented later), and only files with execute permission are
considered shell scripts.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
Multimedia :: Video
About: dxr3Player is a lightweight command line DVD player for Linux and
the DXR3 (aka Hollywood+) MPEG-2 decoder boards. It supports all major
DVD features, including menus, navigation, fast forward and backward
playback, subtitles, and camera angle changes. The player is very
conservative on memory usage and tries very hard (and mostly succeeds) to
keep video and audio in sync.
Changes: DVD playback is now possible on any X Window display, while
continuing to support the DXR3 board. Because of this there are now
several Debian and RPM packages, so the package entries were removed from
the release record. DVD ISO images and directories can be played back.
Brightness, contrast and saturation can be controlled. DTS audio is passed

Education :: Computer Aided Instruction (CAI)
About: FrAid (Fr[actal] Aid) is a programming language that is appropriate
for mathematical computations, visualization, batch processing, and more.
It features both a standalone application that provides a programming
environment for the language and a system for integrating the language
with Java. The Java interface allows mathematical equations and formulas
to be used with Java code, making it easier to process numerical
computations, symbolic computations, imaging, CAD, and more.
Changes: The program was moved into the org.fraid namespace. Only the .jar
file is required to execute the program from the command line, as an
applet, or from other code. New min, max, and quad functions were added.
All graphics are now built using FunctionPlotPlugIn, which supports
printing the function name in the graph.
org.fraid.interpreter.Fraid::Start now returns Complex, making retrieving
results from the FrAid scripts very easy.

[023] - Functional XML Parsing Framework 5.1
by Oleg (http://freshmeat.net/users/olegk47/)
Thu, Sep 16th 2004 18:56
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup
About: The Functional XML Parsing Framework is a package of
low-to-high-level lexing and parsing procedures that can be combined to
yield a SAX, DOM, validating parsers, or a parser intended for a
particular document type. The procedures in the package can be used
separately to tokenize or parse various pieces of XML documents. The
package supports XML namespaces, character, internal, and external parsed
entities, xml:space, attribute value normalization, processing
instructions and CDATA sections. It is intended to be a framework, a set
of "Lego blocks" you can use to build a parser that follows DOM, SAX, or
another discipline, and performs validation to any degree. As an example
of such parser construction, the package includes a semi-validating SXML
parser. It converts XML to SXML, an instance of XML Infoset as
S-expressions, an abstract syntax tree of an XML document. SXML can be
queried (in a XPath style), transformed, and evaluated. The framework
parses XML in a pure functional style, as folding over a text XML document
considered a spread-out tree. The input port is treated as a linear,
read-once parameter. The framework's code does not use assignments at all.
Changes: This release implemented complete R5RS compatibility for the
whole library and the examples. All low-level macros in the library proper
and the examples were replaced with syntax-rules. SRFI-13 is now used
natively if available, or via srfi-13-local.scm. SXML 3.0 compatibility
was established, and Scheme 48 packages and package declarations were
added for the library and the examples. Petite Chez Scheme was added as a
supported platform.

sizes based on the candidate's speed. An improved segment selection will
make sure you start downloading the rarest parts and the beginning of the
file first. Slow candidates will give partly downloaded segments to
available faster candidates.

About: TreeLine is used to organize and store text data in a tree
structure. It is well suited to keeping track of many different types of
information. Each node of the tree can contain several defined fields,
forming a mini-database. The format of each node can be defined, and the
output can be shown on the screen, printed, or exported to HTML. The tree
structure is navigated and edited in the left pane of the window, while
various views of the child data are shown and editable in the right pane.
The data is stored in XML text files. TreeLine is based on the PyQt
library.
Changes: Unicode text is now supported without requiring modifications of
the Python sitecustomize file. Two export bugs have also been fixed, one
in XSLT export and one in XBEL bookmark export. In addition, the
compressed ".trl.gz" extension has been added to the file open filter.
Information about the new TreeLine mailing list has been added to the
