Intrusion detection is one of the major challenges to information
security. In this article, we will consider network intrusion detection,
the analysis of network traffic for suspicious behavior. I base my
argument on my experience with a popular network intrusion detection
system (NIDS) and informal discussion with other network administrators.

Office/Business :: Financial
Software Development :: Libraries
About: AqBanking provides a generic interface to online banking. Online
banking is provided via backends (currently only HBCI is supported).
Changes: This version uses UTF8 strings everywhere. All plugins and
front-ends convert their local charsets to UTF8 to create a uniform
charset space. Many bugs weree fixed.

[004] - BatRen 0.2
by ThuBi (http://freshmeat.net/users/thubi/)
Sat, Sep 18th 2004 22:36
About: BatRen is an automatic file rename tool. The main goal is to
provide a simple way to batch rename collections of files, such as photo
collections. It accepts prefixing and suffixing, a starting index value,
and counter padding formats. If the output file already exists, the
counter is increased until an unused filename is found.
Changes: Files can now be specified on the command line, and basic
filename expansion can be used when specifing files (such as *.jpg). More
detailed information is given in verbose mode. A hard-coded program
description was added for verbose mode. Filename expressions may now be
omitted to use all the files in the current directory. When searching for
an available filename, the first one found is no longer ignored.

About: BOTEC is a simple but useful calculator that assists with
astrophysical, orbital mechanics, and space navigation calculations. It
is a "back-of-the-envelope calculator" rather than an
industrial-strength calculator, although this may change in the future.
It is primarily intended for people familiar with physics and Python,
and as such is unlikely to be useful to the average end user. It includes
solar system data, and all values are strictly in SI units.

About: Ccide reads C, C++, or bash source code containing embedded
decision tables from stdin, analyzes it, and expands the tables. All
statements not within a decision table are copied unchanged to stdout,
forming a compilable C or C++ source module or executable bash script.
Erratic side effects are avoided by evaluating all condition expressions
exactly once and by performing all evaluations and actions in the original
sequence.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: DHTTProxy is an HTTP/1.0 and 1.1 proxy server that uses filters
(programs that transform stdin to stdout, return with the HTTP status
code, and log to stderr) for virtually everything, including redirection,
downloading, caching, anonymizing, and content filtering. It is supposed
to be more extensible than squid-cache, since it's easy to write new
filters in nearly any programming language. It is simple to set up and
transparent. Most of all, it's supposed to be Free and not depend on any
non-Free software. The intended environment is on a gateway or internal
server for a small business or home, as it's not very fast.

Sat, Sep 18th 2004 22:44
Communications :: File Sharing
Internet
About: Nodezilla is a secured, distributed, and fault tolerant routing
system (or grid network) that supports distributed services such as file
sharing, chat, efficient video multicast streaming, and secured file

About: PHP Surveyor is a set of PHP scripts that interact with MySQL to
develop surveys, publish surveys, and collect responses to surveys. Once
a survey has been created there are (currently) two ways to insert data
into the survey: either by a 'pretty' public screen which presents each
question one at a time, or by a quick and nasty data entry screen. It
includes the capacity to generate individualised 'tokens', so that
invitations can be issued to participants, which allows for good quality
control of surveys. It also has the capacity to set conditions on whether
questions will display (branching), numerous question types, and a basic
statistics function.
Changes: A major upgrade was made including a rebuild of the admin screen,
internationalization, new question types and styles, faster public survey
processing, and more.
