Desktop Environment :: Application Themes
Desktop Environment :: Application Themes :: Shells
About: cw is a non-intrusive real-time ANSI color wrapper for common
Unix-based commands. It is designed to simulate the environment of the
commands being executed, so that if a person types 'du', 'df', 'ping',
etc. in their shell it will automatically color the output in real-time
according to a definition file containing the color format desired. It
has support for wildcard match coloring, tokenized coloring,
headers/footers, case scenario coloring, command-line- dependent
definition coloring, and includes over 50 pre- made definition files.
Changes: Two methods of randomizing color were added: "random" and
"random-goto" definition instructions. The colors "random", "random+", and
"random&" were added for use with the "random" definition instruction. The
"nopipe" definition instruction and the "NOCOLOR_PIPE" environment
variable check were added to help unwanted coloring situations. Text
documentation was added. The pre-made g++, cal, md5sum, and cksum
definition files were added. Over 20 pre-made definition files were
revised.

[017] - Conary 0.10.1
by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Wed, Sep 22nd 2004 13:29
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather then having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: This release resolves dependencies while installing changesets,
even across repositories, and you can configure whether you want it to
resolve dependencies. You can also query the Requires and Provides
information while querying a repository, and some repository queries have
been optimized. Several changes to the build code facilitate
cross-compiling, and group recipes can explicitly select flavors to
include.

About: The Cornfed SIP User Agent is a Session Initiation Protocol
(SIP)-based Softphone for your x86 Linux systems. It allows you to make
Internet phone calls using an Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) or
Open Sound System (OSS) sound card with speakers and microphone as your
telephone handset.
Changes: This release adds support for forking of outbound UAC INVITEs by
upstream proxies. It adds command line options to allow specifying a port
other than the default for both SIP messaging and RTP media streams. It
fixes a bug where the client would crash when a call was connected using
/dev/null as the soundcard device, and a bug where the client was not
updating the remote target when multiple provisional responses were
received.

Information Management :: Document Repositories
Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
About: CRM-CTT allows you to create entities to which you can attach
files, place alerts, prioritize, etc. It is multi-lingual and
customizable. It can be used for any department in which something comes
in, must be handled, and goes out, such as bug tracking, systems
management (including assets) or helpdesk call tracking. It creates
management information in PDF and Excel. Installation is done using a
simple script, and a clear manual is included.
Changes: A print icon that prints the PDF summary of an entity to the
standard printer, without user interference, was added to the edit-entity
page. Exporting and importing user accounts is now supported, and better
entity open-time duration logging was added. Pre-defined entity comments
can now be configured by the administrator. The PDF reports were improved:
extra field values are no longer truncated, and the number of customers to

Security
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Debian Hardened extends Debian GNU/Linux with high security and
hardening features, hardened kernels and packages (including the Stack
Smashing Protector and PIE compilation), and DHKP and the Linux entropy
pool enhancements for strong cryptography. It makes system more difficult
to compromise using common attacks such as race conditions, chroot jail
escapes, and buffer overflows, and takes advantage of the LTRNG project to
provide an entropy pool that uses genuine random numbers from an external
device.
Changes: The 2.4.28-pre-3-hardened kernel improves several new features
coming from the DHKP that integrates Owl's kernel patch, the Vanheusden
patch, enhancements for the entropy pool (use of network cards interrupts
for gathering entropy and increased pool sizes), and the introduction of
the Fortuna patch. This provides memory page execution prevention,
restricted FIFOs at /tmp, linking restrictions for /tmp, better entropy
sources, restricted /proc, RLIMIT_NPROC on execve() enforcing, and
destruction of shared memory segments not in use.

About: MIMEDefang is a flexible MIME email scanner designed to protect
Windows clients from viruses. However, it can do many other kinds of mail
processing, such as replacing parts of messages with URLs, adding
boilerplate disclaimers, and so on. It can alter or delete various parts
of a MIME message according to a very flexible configuration file. It can
also bounce messages with unacceptable attachments. MIMEDefang works with
Sendmail 8.11/8.12's new "Milter" API, which makes it more flexible and
efficient than procmail-based approaches.
Changes: The multiplexor has a new "-a" option to allow non-privileged
users to run a restricted set of status commands. "watch-mimedefang" has
been completely revamped and gives a lot of useful information about email
server load. It can monitor a remote server over an SSH tunnel. The
notification facility has two new messages, indicating a busy timeout and
the unexpected death of a Perl slave. There is a new set of RBL functions
that perform parallel DNS lookups to reduce latency. In addition, many
minor features have been added, bugs have been fixed, and documentation
has been cleaned up.

[097] - The SMIL(e) Gateway 0.4.0
by Nuclear Elephant (http://freshmeat.net/users/jzdziarski/)
Wed, Sep 22nd 2004 06:49
Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Email
Internet
About: The SMIL(e) Gateway (pronounced "Smiley") is a Verizon-compatible
MMS server capable of processing incoming requests via HTTP. MMS
transmissions are presently used to send pictures, videos, and text to
others via email or to upload to storage (such as Verizon's Pix Place).
The SMIL(e) gateway listens for and processes incoming MMS messages, and
can serve as an alternative to using some carriers' messaging gateways.
The gateway features support for all PIX-type media, relaying (resending
media to multiple recipients), local storage, and can function with
multiple phone numbers.
Changes: This version adds the correct MIME type for video files. It adds
the correct upload response so that handsets report a successful
transmission.

[098] - Transcend Game 0.1.1
by Jason Rohrer (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcr13/)

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Sound Synthesis
About: Transcend can best be described as retro-style, abstract, 2D
shooter. The graphics are geometrical, and the pace is sometimes
frenzied. Two features set Transcend apart from other games. First, its
dynamic graphical engine, which can smoothly morph from one complex shape
to another in realtime, produces striking displays. Combining these
dynamic shapes with subtle randomizations ensures that each new play
through a level is visually different from the last. The second novel
feature is the musical power-up system. As you play through a level, you
are simultaneously assembling an abstract visual collage and arranging a
unique piece of music.

whitespace and typographic layout) and attempts to mark that structure
explicitly using HTML.
Changes: A bug with installation that only affected package builders has
been fixed.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: Visitors is a very fast Web log analyzer. It can process up to
150,000 lines/second of logs on a modern PC, outputs statistics in
plaintext or HTML, and can be used interactively in a pipe with less to
just see the stats quickly, or run via cron for the HTML output. It does
not require any kind of configuration, nor to know the format of the Web
log file to process.
Changes: As result of Google's bots User Agent string change, visitors
were no longer able to produce two Google-related reports (Googled Pages
and Browsers). This bug is fixed, and all users should upgrade in order to
get reliable outputs.
