[001] - 4tH compiler 3.4e-pre6 (Development)
by HanSoft (http://freshmeat.net/users/hansoft/)
Sat, Sep 25th 2004 01:53
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries
About: 4tH is a Forth compiler with a little difference. Instead of the
standard Forth engine it features a conventional compiler. 4tH is a very
small compiler that can create bytecode, C-embeddable bytecode, standalone
executables, but also works fine as a scripting language. It supports over
85% of the ANS Forth CORE wordset and features conditional compilation,
pipes, files, assertions, forward declarations, recursion, include files,
etc. It comes with an RPN calculator, line editor, compiler, decompiler,
C-source generators, and a virtual machine.
Changes: Support for application stacks was added to the library along
with the NOW and WEEKDAY words. A pre-release of the manual is now
available.

[002] - acast 0.18
by Zaheer Abbas Merali (http://freshmeat.net/users/scav/)
Sat, Sep 25th 2004 20:25
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording
About: acast is a program for webcasting audio from your sound device to a
variety of different streaming servers. Its features include the ability to
stream the audio in Ogg Vorbis to Icecast 2.x servers and in MP3 to all
Shoutcast and Icecast compatible servers. It can also simultaneously
record the stream to disk, either normally, at a higher quality, or as WAV
files for recording on CD. It has both a GTK+ interface and a console
interface. All the streams can be individually started and stopped
dynamically while the streams are running, and the recording filenames can
be changed.
Changes: The listen stream uses the GNOME default audio sink if
configured for GNOME. MP3 encoding uses LAME's auto- resampler rather than
gstreamer's. The .desktop entry is fixed. A bug where the webcast type
would change to MP3 regardless of user setting after closing preferences
window was fixed. MP3 encoding now uses bitrate properly. A quality
scale for recording the stream was implemented. The Vorbis encoding was
changed to use rawvorbisenc and oggmux. A webcasting bug where it thought
webcast password was a mount point was fixed. An about dialog was added
for if it is configured for GNOME.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: AudienceConnect is a revenue-generating Python CGI solution for
independent content providers. Requests for dynamic content or content
sets are routed through PayPal. Previews are generated as static HTML for
search engines to harvest. Demo site content is text for e-publishing, but
AudienceConnect can be easily extended to deliver other MIME types: sound
files, image files, etc.
Changes: This release adds a work-in-progress type. Each type is allowed
an AC_type.html and an AC_type_index.html. The editor CGI manages the
authors' PayPal account file and can respawn all authors remotely. The
editor queue accepts an optional message to be inserted in
acceptance/rejection email. AC_Static no longer relies upon static HTML
or plates, and uses only the data directory. Whitespace is now allowed
in AC_fees.txt and AC_types.txt for legibility.

programs to use different CAN drivers. It consists of a CANAL daemon that
handles client and driver communication, a canalLogger that logs messages
in a window, and a simple diagnostic application. C++ clases and DLL/DL

About: The goal of the General Applet Interface Library is to give
programmers a simple yet powerful applet interface. This library supports
wmapplet/dockapps, GNOME 2 panel applets, and ROX panel applets. The
applet programmer doesn't have to care about where the applet will be
used, since the library handles that. Over 50% of the code in a dockapp

[020] - JEgg 0.3.0
by brulow (http://freshmeat.net/users/brulow/)
Sat, Sep 25th 2004 20:29
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: JEgg provides an implementation for Java Active Objects that
simplifies the development of multithreaded Java applications. JEgg
objects interact using arbitrary messages rather than synchronous method
invocations. It can be configured to execute on the same or separate
threads without changing the application logic, and it does not require
the explicit use of Java synchronization or the java.lang.Thread class.
Consequently, application objects are highly cohesive and loosely coupled
with no compile-time dependencies.
Changes: This version has evolved from an API into a framework that
allows the application "eggs" to be configured and wired together using
an XML-based application descriptor. Using the descriptor, eggs can be
assigned to physical threads at configuration time rather than in
software code, arbitrary properties (name-value pairs) can be configured
on each egg, and the descriptor itself can "include" other descriptors.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: MUSCLE (Multi User Server Client Linking Environment) is an N-way
messaging server and networking API. It is portable to any OS with a POSIX
TCP sockets API and a modern C++ compiler. It lets programs communicate
over a network via streams of serialized Message objects (which are very
similar to BeOS's BMessages). The included server program ("muscled") lets
its clients message each other and store information in its server-side
hierarchical database. The database supports flexible queries via
hierarchical wildcarding, and "live" updates via a subscription mechanism.
It may also be customized via subclassing if application-specific
server-side logic is needed.
Changes: Minimalistic C-only implementations of the Message and
MessageGateway classes were included for use in constrained environments.
The String and Hashtable classes were optimized a bit more, and some
minor bugs were fixed.

[036] - The Java Roguelike Engine Project 0.1.0
by Thomas Seufert (http://freshmeat.net/users/seufet/)
Sat, Sep 25th 2004 21:03
About: The goal of the Java Roguelike Engine Project is to make it easy
for anyone to create their own rogue-like game, and to make it possible
for programmers to create truly outstanding variants. The project
currently consists of three components: the Core, the Variant Manager, and

particular, there is infrastructure for lighting and field- of-view, items
which cause temporary or instantaneous effects, and specifying
distributions of monsters and items in a generic yet flexible manner.

[037] - the poldek 0.18.7
by Pawel A. Gajda (http://freshmeat.net/users/mis/)
Sat, Sep 25th 2004 20:11
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Software Distribution Tools
About: The poldek is an RPM package management tool which allows you to
easily perform package verification, installation (including system
installation from scratch), upgrading, and removal. Package dependencies
are automatically handled, so if you try to install a package that needs
others to be installed, it will download all needed packages and install
them. It can be used in batch (like apt-get from Debian's APT) or
interactive mode. The interactive mode puts you into a readline interface
with commandline autocompletion and history, similar to the shell mode of
Perl's CPAN.
Changes: Several major bugs in dependency resolution code have been fixed
including broken package ordering and the invalid package Epoch's
auto-promotion. Enhanced Obsoletes matching introduced in RPM 4.1 has
been added. With the new --caplookup option packages may be selected for
install by its capabilities (e.g. Provides).

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Testing
About: Web Performance Trainer is a load testing and stress testing tool
for Web servers. Its statistical analysis takes your site's performance
criteria, and determines the number of users your Web site can handle.
Because data is collected at the URL level, it not only identifies slow
Web pages, but identifies the particular part of the Web page that caused
the problem. Web Performance Trainer includes hard-to-find features such
as IP spoofing, client certificates, multiple simultaneous test cases,
authentication, SSL recording and playback, automated analysis, and more.
Changes: This is one of the first patch releases for 2.7, which has proved
to be remarkably bug-free so far. It contains a fix for session tracking
detection in HTML returned from POST and a fix for the detection of
Mozilla 1.6. There's also a new section in the manual which gives enough
information for you to create custom session tracking configuration files.
