[001] - Aeon 0.2
  by Piotr Benetkiewicz (http://freshmeat.net/users/hughofborg/)
  Sun, Sep 26th 2004 08:05

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents

About: Aeon is a small, simple, and easy to configure replacement for
big, old MTAs like sendmail or postfix that was created for personal use
on Linux desktop machines. It is intended to give users the easiest
possible solution for connecting their favourite MUA with an SMTP server.
It is not a daemon, runs only while performing a delivery, and is a good
choice for hardened or minimalistic boxes.

Changes: Major improvements in message header processing. A problem with
cc:, bcc:, and attachments sending has been resolved. There are many fixes
in the configuration file parser. There are a few buffer overrun
protections, a simplified and more secure parsing engine, more precise log
entries, and countless minor fixes and code cleanups.

[004] - Chess Training Tools 1.0.5 (Palm)
  by dkappe (http://freshmeat.net/users/dkappe/)
  Sun, Sep 26th 2004 17:32

Games/Entertainment :: Turn Based Strategy

About: Chess Training Tools is a collection of chess training tools. It
includes a chess visualization trainer that teaches chess visualization by
drilling you on the color of a particular square, and also on your ability
to tell if two squares are the same color, if two (or three) squares are
on the same diagonal, if two squares are a knight move apart, or if two
squares are two knight moves apart. It includes a weak chess program
(called Vince) that lets you lag the display by several ply, hide all
pieces or all pawns, and block out quadrants of the board. Furthermore, it
includes an opening memorization trainer. The Palm & Pocket PC versions are
missing the mate, opening trainer, and Vince.

Changes: A bug where an incorrect answer did not cause the requiz of a
question has been fixed.

point, and it will default to "copland.BuilderFactory". The BuilderFactory
now supports an "invoke" element, describing methods and their parameters
to invoke while initializing a new service. A warning is now logged when
you try to set a property that does not have an explicit setter defined.
Registry#service now accepts an optional block, which will be passed to
"instance_eval" on the new service every time the requested service is
instantiated.

[020] - GTK Photo Gallery 0.30
  by Jens Wilke (http://freshmeat.net/users/jenswilke/)
  Sun, Sep 26th 2004 13:51

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: GTK Photo Gallery is an album to manage small and medium-sized
photograph collections. It allows quick management by processing multiple
files together. Rotate, delete, move, and manage descriptions can be done
for all files in one directory at once. It is possible to upload pictures
to an online laboratory to order prints. GTK Photo Gallery is implemented
with GTK2-Perl, and due to the lack of a Web server in between, it is much
faster than CGI-based scripts. It uses the same directory structure as
(and can be used together with) My Photo Gallery (a set of CGI scripts).
It is possible to export (and import) an Album into 700 MB large parts for
easy CD backup, including static HTML pages to navigate the CD. This can
also be used to create a simple album for the Web.

Changes: Log windows were added to the order and the export process. RPM
and deb packages were created (very alpha).

[023] - Hilbert II 0.00.53
  by m31 (http://freshmeat.net/users/m31/)
  Sun, Sep 26th 2004 13:49

Documentation
Education
Internet

About: The Goal of Hilbert II, which is in the tradition of Hilbert's
program, is the creation of a system that enables a working mathematician
to put theorems and proofs (in the formal language of predicate calculus)
into it. These proofs are automatically verified by a proof checker.
Because this system is not centrally administered and enables references
to any location on the Internet, a world wide mathematical knowledge base
could be built. Any proof of a theorem in this "mathematical web" could be
drilled down to the very elementary rules and axioms. To make it more than
a huge number of logical correct formulas, it also contains information in
"common mathematical language". Think of an incredible number of
mathematical textbooks with hyperlinks, and each of its proofs could be
verified by *Hilbert II*. For each theorem, the dependency of other
propositions, definitions, and axioms could be easily derived.

Changes: The key feature of this release is a graphical user interface.
Now checking qedeq modules and generating different conversion formats
(HTML, LaTeX) are just a click away. The loading and checking state of
various modules can be identified by its color. It is even possible to
create and edit a new qedeq module within the prototype. The main project
"Hilbert II" has now a project handbook, and an intial sketch of a script
about axiomatic set theory is ready (both texts are in German). Now begins
the process of transferring the script into a qedeq module and extending
the qedeq syntax format at the same time.

[024] - Horde Application Framework 2.2.6 (Stable 2.x)
  by Jan Schneider (http://freshmeat.net/users/Yunosh/)
  Sun, Sep 26th 2004 20:48

Office/Business :: Groupware
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: The Horde Application Framework is a modular, general-purpose Web
application framework. It provides an extensive array of classes that are
targeted at the common problems and tasks involved in developing modern
Web applications.

Changes: Some database problems with large fields on Oracle and with BLOB
fields on PostgreSQL were fixed along with support for custom session
handlers. SQL scripts for the Oracle and PostgreSQL session handlers were
 added. A JavaScript error with the problem reporting feature under some
translations was fixed. The user's full name is now shown on the portal
page directly after logging in. Trailing spaces are no longer stripped
from signature dashes, for example in IMP. The Estonian, German,
Portuguese, Slovak, Slovenian, and Spanish translations were updated.

  Sun, Sep 26th 2004 04:08

Database :: Front-Ends
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: I-Man is a simple Web application that can handle contacts, notes,
code snippets, etc. (just about every kind of text data). You can create
multiple categories of data, and it also has a category editor.
Additionally you can add file-attachments to records. It is written in PHP
and uses InterBase/Firebird, MySQL, SQLite, or PostgreSQL. Multiple
languages are supported.

Changes: Much of the code has been rewritten for this release. File-
attachments can now be added to records, and URLs can be displayed as
links in the content area. The currently selected style has a preview
now. For Firebird, this version makes use of generators, no more select
(max) hacks. The entire application has been converted from HTML
4.01-transitional to XHTML 1.0-transitional, with more CSS for layout,
which results in much tighter HTML. The database schema has been
sanitized.

System :: Installation/Setup

About: Karoshi is a point and click server setup for secondary schools
running Mandrake Linux 10 on the servers and Windows 2000/XP on the
clients. It aims to allow a user who is not a Linux expert to get a server
up and running in under an hour with minimal Linux knowledge. It provides a
set of point and click server configurations for a primary domain
controller, a file server for students' work, a print server with
Web-based queue management, and a filtering and monitoring Internet proxy
server.

Changes: Webmin Configuration for xen. Creating users on xen now
automatically creates a folder for the user on either Joshua or Orac if
needed. Shorewall Firewall setup for all servers closing off all ports
apart from the ones needed for that server. Scheduler Guest accounts can
be scheduled to have their passwords changed every day and account areas
cleared of files. New passwords can be viewed using the feature above. The
temp area is automatically cleared every day.

Changes: A policy option has been added. This release checks if the main
soulcatcher log file is present. It creates files if they are not present
(if possible). Typos have been fixed. You are now unable to set options in
the config file to more than 9999. A startup welcome log message has been
added. A probability check has been added.

Software Development :: Testing :: Traffic Generation

About: Tcpreplay is a set of Unix tools which allows the replaying of
captured network traffic in pcap (tcpdump) format. It can be used to test
a variety of network devices including routers, firewalls, and NIDS.

Changes: This release fixed a compilation issue on systems with older
versions of libpcap such as Red Hat 9.0.

[061] - tentakel 2.1.3
  by Sebastian Stark (http://freshmeat.net/users/kybercran/)
  Sun, Sep 26th 2004 13:53

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Systems Administration

About: Tentakel is a program that executes the same command on many hosts
in parallel using SSH or other remote methods. It is designed to be easily
extendable. The output of the remote command can be controlled by means of
format strings.

Changes: Most changes are not visible to the user, but there are still
quite a few that are of interest. An rsh remote method has been
implemented. The interpretation of the configuration file has changed in a
subtle but important way: parameters for a specific host are now taken from
its nearest enclosing group and not from the top-level group. Format
strings may contain the string "%t", which expands to the time that was
used to execute the remote command.

[062] - Terminal Emulator 0.1.6
  by bmeurer (http://freshmeat.net/users/bmeurer/)
  Sun, Sep 26th 2004 05:55

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers :: XFCE
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: Terminal is a modern terminal emulator for the Unix/Linux desktop,
primarly for the Xfce desktop environment. It was developed because Xfce
needed a lightweight and easy-to-use terminal emulator that didn't require
the user to install the GNOME libraries, but still provided a worthy
alternative to the GNOME terminal emulator, with all the bells and
whistles.

Changes: A bug that made mc appear in black and white only was fixed.
Documentation was added, available through the menu Help->Contents. The
compact mode functionality was split up into two options, so it's now
possible to toggle the visibility of the menubar and the window
decorations independently. New icons for Open Terminal and Open Tab were
added. Custom command functionality was removed from Terminal, because it
is rather useless. Translations now work the way they are expected to
work.

[065] - Transcend Game 0.1.2
  by Jason Rohrer (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcr13/)
  Sun, Sep 26th 2004 05:16

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Sound Synthesis

About: Transcend can best be described as retro-style, abstract, 2D
shooter. The graphics are geometrical, and the pace is sometimes
frenzied. Two features set Transcend apart from other games. First, its
dynamic graphical engine, which can smoothly morph from one complex shape
to another in realtime, produces striking displays. Combining these
dynamic shapes with subtle randomizations ensures that each new play
through a level is visually different from the last. The second novel
feature is the musical power-up system. As you play through a level, you
are simultaneously assembling an abstract visual collage and arranging a
unique piece of music.

Changes: A missing dependency was added to the GNU/Linux X86 makefile. The
Mac download file name was shortened to make Internet Explorer happy.

Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: Tspell is a library and applications for solving Turkish Natural
Language Processing (NLP) related computational problems. Turkish, by
nature, has a very different morphological and grammatical structure than
Indo-European languages such as English. Since it is an agglutinative
language like Finnish, even making a simple spell checker is very
challenging. Some target problems are: a spell checker, a word analyzer
that determines roots and suffixes, a word constructor based on suffixes,
and much more.

System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: CD-Based
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: Turkix is a Mandrake-based live Linux distribution. It brings a
new file hierarchy in which the whole file system is cloned under one
single directory called "/all". "/all" has subdirectories like
"/all/Programs/", "/all/System", "/all/ Personal Files" etc. And
"/all/Programs" directory has subfolders like:
"/all/Programs/~programname/ Configuration Files",
"/all/Programs/~programname/ Manuals" etc. Apart from this, Turkix
features a unique control panel, embedded into Konqueror (a kioslave
actually), which is a synthesis of Mandrake Control Center, KDE Control
Center, third party configuration tools, and other additions. The package
management system is rpmx. Other great features are the Linux port of Mac
OS X's Expose, and the graphical installation wizard.

[068] - Volleyball Manager 2.1.8
  by Ron (http://freshmeat.net/users/ronnyroeller/)
  Sun, Sep 26th 2004 17:27

Games/Entertainment
Information Management
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks

About: The Volleyball Manager supports the planning, processing, and
documentation of volleyball tournaments and leagues. An automatic
scheduler generates an optimized schedule which can be freely modified. A
beamer and terminal module offer a better transparency for participants
and visitors of tournaments. The application is available in English,
German, and Dutch.

Changes: The automatic scheduler was fundamentally re-engineered. The
cleaner design cleared up some bugs in double elimination mode, which are
fixed now. A major improvement is made in automatic referee generation.
The algorithm ensures that each team has the referee job a similiar amount
of times, that teams don't judge their own group, and that only groups that
are still in the tournament are scheduled (so thrown-out teams don't have
to stay longer). Finally, some minor bugs have been fixed, and translation
is improved.

other, enabling master detail-like drill-down. You can provide your own
HTML or JSP template files which are mixed with the generated JSP to
provide a final Web application.

Changes: The chart types signal, wind, Gantt, and highlow charts are now
supported. Refer to the simple example documentation to see one example of
each chart type.
