Sun, Oct 3rd 2004 19:36
Communications :: File Sharing
About: aMule is short for "all-platform eMule-like file-sharing program",
or, in short, "all-platform Mule". It's a port of the well-known eMule P2P
client for the eDonkey2000 file sharing network, supporting most of eMule
features. Additionally, it provides a small separate Web server and
command line interface to connect to a running aMule via the network. Like
its predecessors lMule and xMule, it uses wxWidgets and runs on Linux, BSD,
Solaris, and the Mac. It also supports multiple archictectures.
Changes: This release includes AICH support, embedded Crypto++, an aMule
daemon, rewritten search tab and preferences, and a usable Mac OS X port.
There are many new minor features and bugfixes, and intensive code
cleanup.

Games/Entertainment :: Real Time Strategy
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: Babelize is a collection of localizations for Linux games. It
currently features a German translation for "Heroes of Might and Magic
III", as well as instructions for applying the localizations provided by
Loki for "Civilization: Call to Power". The goal of the project is to
provide localizations for as many native Linux games as possible, and to
provide a completely setup system with all the needed Wine binaries to
play Windows games without any manual configuration.
Changes: The Heroes of Might and Magic 3 installer now has a Polish
installation frontend. The first public release of Alpha Centauri Alien
Crossfire was finished. It includes a complete German localization and the

Sun, Oct 3rd 2004 22:35
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Cgiapp.class.php is a port of CGI::Application to PHP. It utilizes
Smarty as its default templating engine, much as CGI::Application uses
HTML::Template, due to its prevalence and acceptance in the PHP community.
Due to PHP's built-in session support, it also adds two methods, s_param()
and s_delete(), to handle session parameters. A number of static methods
have also been included to facilitate error handling and array/hash
conversion.
Changes: An error_mode() function was added, making it possible to return
alternate content on failure of the requested run mode. PATH_INFO support
was added to mode_param(). Stripslashes support was added to the Smarty
object. param() was fixed to properly return an associative array of all
the class properties it manages. The introductory documentation was
moved to phpDoc tutorials.

[011] - darcs 1.0.0rc3
by David Roundy (http://freshmeat.net/users/droundy/)
Sun, Oct 3rd 2004 07:53
Software Development :: Version Control
About: Darcs is an advanced revision control system along the lines of CVS
or arch. It has two particularly distinctive features which differ from
other revision control systems: each copy of the source is a fully
functional branch, and underlying it is a consistent and powerful theory
of patches. In spite of its power, darcs is simple to use, in part because
of the symmetry that is restored by making each copy of the repository a
branch.
Changes: A bug in the commutation of file renames and file adds could have
(in theory) lead to repository corruption, if you managed to reorder the
rename and the add, and then performed a merge. A few minor
non-repository-endangering bugs were also fixed. Quite a bit of
documentation was updated. Support in the interactive patch selection
process for the 'a' key, which selects all remaining patches, was added.

by Pierrick LE GALL (http://freshmeat.net/users/z0rglub_pierrick/)
Sun, Oct 3rd 2004 19:30
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
About: PhpWebGallery is an image gallery with a very simple installation
interface and administration panel. It features free or restricted access,
user management, groups, access management for each category, multi-server
support (to store your pictures on another Web site), user comments, HTML
templates, virtual categories, and multilingual support (English, French,
German, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Norwegian, Spanish, Danish, Swedish,
Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Czech).
Changes: PHP 5.x compatibility (a small fix in the template library). The
ability to create a thumbnail of a picture with a filename containing
forbidden characters has been disabled. The category invisible status has
been disabled. It was not working, and making it worked is too complicated
(use public/private status instead). Files uploaded via HTTP must have the
same extensions as during a normal update. If a category had contained no
picture directly, there was an error during new user registration.

About: SchoolTool is a project to develop a common global school
administration infrastructure that is freely available under an Open
Source licence. The vision is to create a platform that is equally
compelling for schools and colleges in First and Third World countries,
that supports best practices in school administration, and which is
readily customized to comply with local regulatory requirements. It is a
client-server application, with an HTTP server following the REST
architectural style and a client written using wxPython. Mozilla Calendar
is used as a client for the calendaring functionality.
Changes: This release comes with powerful features such as SSL support
and an application-level audit trail. SSL support enables the SchoolTool
clients to connect to the server over SSL, while the application logging
allows you to track changes to the data stored in the SchoolTool system.
It contains the problem domain actions happening in the system, for
example, the editing of relationships, or the creation of new objects.
The application log is stored in a text file on the server, and can also
be examined in the GUI client by a user with manager privileges.

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: SMC takes a state machine stored in an .sm file and generates the
state pattern classes in C++, Java, [incr Tcl], VB.net, or C#. Its
features include default transitions, transition arguments, transition
guards, push/pop transitions, and Entry/Exit actions. It requires Java SE
1.4.1 or better.
Changes: An error when reading in .sm files larger than 4,096 bytes has
been fixed. SMC will "back up" its buffer index when it decides a
character does not belong to the current lexical token. The bug occurs
when SMC backs up past index 0. This has been corrected by keeping the
previous buffer's last two bytes available when reading the next 4,096
bytes (SMC backs up at most 2 bytes.) "using namespace std" has been
removed from the "-g" generated .cpp file. All generated references to the
std namespace are now fully-qualified with "std::".

System :: Logging
About: Unix Mobile Agents is a generic, flexible, easy to use mobile
agent architecture implemented in a set of bash scripts. This design is
made to be trivial to deploy and setup. Agents can be configured to
traverse the network in sorted order, in user defined order, or as a
random walk. They can also run in a repeated loop, or in a single pass
through the network. Connections are made via public-key SSH
authentication, and the screen utility is used to allow agents to run
without requiring terminals.
Changes: This release adds some missions to do removal of abort files and
resume waited agents. A spawnagent script has been added so that the agent
doesn't always run on localhost just to migrate it somewhere else. It also
allows you to guarantee the order in which things are executed. This means
you also don't need to specify the current node for the first one; it
figures it out itself. Validation is not performed when goto_host is
called; it is done by hand in agent.sh.
