About: Bit::Vector is a (stand-alone) C library and an object-oriented
Perl module (with overloaded operators) which allows you to handle bit
vectors, sets (of integers), "big integer arithmetic" (e.g. for
cryptography), and boolean matrices (all of arbitrary size) very
efficiently.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Address Book
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
About: Brutus is an Exchange connector and development framework that
offers access to all of MAPI and therefore to all versions of Microsoft
Exchange from version 5.5 onwards. It is a complete wrapping of all of
MAPI into a (large) set of CORBA interfaces. It enables any groupware
client to integrate seamlessly into any organization with large Exchange
deployments on an equal footing with MS Outlook. Being based on CORBA, it
is platform independent, and works equally well on Linux, the BSDs,
Windows, or wherever there is a CORBA implementation available.
Changes: This release adds much-improved sample code, which now
demonstrates how to access the Contacts folder on the Exchange server.
Many utility functions have been implemented for the sample code and a few
bugs fixed on both the server and the client sides.

About: The DParser is a scannerless GLR parser generator based on the
Tomita algorithm. It is self-hosted and very easy to use. Grammars are
written in a natural style of EBNF and regular expressions and support
both speculative and final actions.
Changes: A compilation issue with the use of the GC option was fixed along

[012] - Date::Calc 5.4
by Steffen Beyer (http://freshmeat.net/users/stbey/)
Fri, Oct 8th 2004 11:53
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development
About: The Date::Calc package consists of a C library and a Perl module
(which uses the C library internally) for all kinds of date calculations
based on the Gregorian calendar (the one used in all Western countries
today), thereby complying with all relevant norms and standards: ISO/R
2015-1971, DIN 1355 and, to some extent, ISO 8601 (where applicable). The
package is designed as an efficient toolbox, not a bulky ready-made
application. It provides extensive documentation and examples of use,
multi-language support, and special functions for business needs. The C
library is specifically designed so that it can be used stand-alone,
without Perl.
Changes: This release features C++ compiler directives, fixes a bug in the
initialization of "Year" calendar objects, improves calendar.cgi by adding
a new method tags() to Date::Calendar, fixes some calendar profiles and
languages, adds Romanian, some Norwegian holidays and an additional
Date::Calc "recipe", hopefully fixes the bug in test 5 of test script
t/m005.t, and removes the module Carp::Clan from the distribution, which
is available separately.

Fri, Oct 8th 2004 12:04
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
About: DirSync is a directory synchronizer. It takes two arguments: the
source directory and the destination directory. It recursively makes the
two directories identical. It can be used to make an incremental copy of
large data. For example, if your file server is in the /data you can make
a copy in /backup with the command dirsync /data /backup. The first time,
all data will be copied, but when you issue the command again, only the
changed files are copied.
Changes: A man entry has been added. Support for multiple file options
from one text file has been added.

[014] - DOMIT! 0.99
by John Heinstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/jheinstein/)
Fri, Oct 8th 2004 22:29
Internet
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: DOMIT! is an XML parser for PHP. It is lightweight, fast, and
implements a generous subset of the DOM Level 2 specification. The primary
goal of DOMIT! is to provide PHP developers with a standards-compliant
means of working with XML, thus ensuring more portable and communicable
code. DOMIT! is not an extension; it is written purely in PHP and should
therefore run on any Web hosting platform with PHP 4 and above installed.
DOMIT! requires coupling with a SAX parser. You can use either the SAXY
parser that comes bundled with DOMIT! or the Expat parser that is included
in most later PHP distributions.
Changes: This release fixed a critical bug in the loadXML method of
DOMIT!_Document and a minor bug in the file I/O of DOMIT_Cache.

[015] - DOMIT! RSS Parser for PHP 0.4
by John Heinstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/jheinstein/)
Fri, Oct 8th 2004 22:29
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: DOMIT! RSS is an RSS parser for PHP. It does not require the
installation of extensions beyond the basic PHP distribution. Unlike most
existing PHP RSS clients, it uses a DOM XML parser (DOMIT!) to convert an
RSS feed into a DOM document that can be traversed using the standard DOM
methods. It is able to parse all flavors of RSS feed, and its API is
designed to work identically across all versions. Its caching mechanism
saves a local copy of the RSS feed and updates it only at specified
intervals. It is able to detect certain types of non-compliant XML and
repair them. The lightweight DOMIT! RSS Lite is available for users who
wish only to extract title, link, and description elements from a feed.
Changes: This version fixed several bugs in the feed caching system and
the establishment of HTTP connections.

Changes: All changes to a bug are now comprehensively logged to a
'history' tab. Scheduled reminders have been implemented, and tasks are
now locked while editing so that no-one can save over your
changes-in-progress. Initial work has been done on reporting tools,
sub-categories are implemented, and task-list column headings are now

[022] - FOX 1.3.13 (Development)
by jeroen (http://freshmeat.net/users/jvz/)
Fri, Oct 8th 2004 12:07
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: FOX is a C++-based toolkit for GUI development. It includes a rich
set of widgets and has powerful yet simple layout managers, MDI widgets,
and mega-widgets. FOX incorporates support for XDND for drag and drop, X
clipboard and X Selection, watching other I/O channels and sockets, timers
and idle processing, object serialization and deserialization, a registry
to save persistent settings, and 3D widgets using Mesa or OpenGL. FOX
works on Linux, IRIX, Solaris, HP/UX, AIX, Tru64 Unix, Windows 9x,NT,2K
(VC++, GNUWIN32, Borland, VisualAge C++), FreeBSD, and Sequent.
Changes: Creating scarce resources such as images, icons, fonts, cursors,
and windows now may generate exceptions instead of simply failing. There
are new exception types for these resources: FXWindowException,
FXImageException, and FXFontException. Note that exceptions are only
thrown in case of errors due to limitations at run time; programming
errors are still handled via fxerror(). A new tryHandle() API has been
added to FXObject that performs an exception-safe message call through
handle(). This is now used by most widgets to push messages to their
targets.

[027] - getmail 4.2.1 (Stable)
by Charles Cazabon (http://freshmeat.net/users/twoflower/)
Fri, Oct 8th 2004 12:02
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: getmail is intended as a simple, secure, and reliable replacement
for fetchmail. It retrieves email (either all messages, or only unread
messages) from one or more POP3, SPDS, or IMAP4 servers (with or without
SSL) for one or more email accounts, and reliably delivers into
qmail-style Maildirs, mboxrd files, or through external MDAs (command
deliveries) specified on a per-account basis. getmail also has excellent
support for domain (multidrop) mailboxes, including delivering messages to
different users or destinations based on the envelope recipient address.
Changes: This release sets message attributes on corrupt container objects
to prevent problems with destinations that expect multidrop-retrieved
messages. Tests for existence of files have been moved from mbox
destination initialization to the delivery method, and the error changed
from a configuration to a delivery error.

Fri, Oct 8th 2004 08:09
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry
About: GNU polyxmass features an integrated mass spectrometry framework
where users are able to define brand new polymer chemistries (within the
polyxdef module), and use these definitions in order to make simple mass
calculations (within the polyxcalc module) or perform complex simulations
of polymer chemistry with related mass data computations (within the
polyxedit module). The framework allows full customization of every aspect
of the polymer chemistry being defined, and of the way the polymer
sequences are graphically displayed. This program was formerly called
"polyXmass".
Changes: This release adds the ability for polymer sequences to "speak
themselves out" by creating a playlist file that can be played by common
multimedia players like xmms. For each monomer in the sequence, a sound
file containing the vocalized code or name is listed in the playlist file.
When the playlist is played, the sequence speaks itself exactly as if
someone were reading it. A number of small bugs have been corrected.

[035] - Java SQL Admin Tool 2.4.0
by Fredy Fischer (http://freshmeat.net/users/afs/)
Fri, Oct 8th 2004 08:11
Database
Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development
About: Admin is entirely written in Java. It uses Swing GUI Components and
JDBC to connect to databases. It has been succesfully tested with MySQL,
InstantDB, Oracle, Empress, and PostgreSQL. You can have a tree view of
the RDBMS or pick a single instance to have a look at its metadata. It
allows you to create, modify, and drop tables and to create indices on a
table. The dynamic form makes it easy to enter data into a certain table,
and the guided query makes it easy to retrieve data from a table and to
export it. Java developers will probably enjoy the code generator doing an
OO relational wrapper and a swing GUI for them. You can also export and
import data and transport it from one DBMS to another.
Changes: This release adds a new CreateTable-GUI which allows you to
create the table within a grid. It supports additional parameters not
available in the "old" Version; you can set default values,
check-constraints, and foreign-key-relationships. There is an editor that
allows you to select the referencing column by simply clicking it.
SQL-Monitor now allows the use of "desc". Bugs have been fixed.

Fri, Oct 8th 2004 08:07
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
About: "Jpegpixi" is short for "JPEG pixel interpolator". It is a
command-line utility which interpolates pixels in JFIF images (commonly
refered to as "JPEG images"). This is useful to correct images from a
digital camera with CCD defects. Jpegpixi is unique in that it tries to
preserve the quality of the JFIF image as much as possible. Most graphics
programs decode JFIF images when they are loaded, and re-encode them when
they are saved, which results in an overall loss of quality. Jpegpixi, on
the other hand, does not decode and re-encode the image, but manipulates
the encoded image data, protecting the quality of the image as much as
possible.
Changes: Spelling mistakes in the German message catalog have been

Information Management
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
About: YALE (Yet Another Learning Environment) is a flexible Java
environment for machine learning and data mining. Many nestable learning
and preprocessing operators (including Weka) are provided. It features

requirements. A command line version is also included.
Changes: This release includes the new operator RandomOptimization to find
the best initialization for algorithms which depend on random settings. The
main improvement is the integration of the new Weka release 3.4.3. The
performance that was delivered by validation chains (only for plotting
purposes) was not the average, but the last performance. This error was
the reason for an incorrect plot in the ParameterOptimization sample
experiment, and has been fixed.

[082] - Yeemp Encrypted Messaging Program 0.9.10
by Deekoo L. (http://freshmeat.net/users/deekoo/)
Fri, Oct 8th 2004 02:55
Communications :: Chat
About: Yeemp is a decentralized instant messaging system. It uses GPG over
SSL for encryption, and UTF-8 to enable non-Latin text to be transferred.
The X client can request and receive webcam feeds. The clients include
support for Japanese, Cyrillic, and Ogham input, as well as direct UTF-8.
Yeemp includes a command-line client, an X client, a server, and a simple
Web-based client. The clients can also use the AIM and ICQ protocols.
Changes: This release fixes a security hole wherein Yeemp would display
files sent unencrypted as if they had been sent encrypted; this hole
would permit attackers to clobber the media files for contacts on your
list, and would make it possible for a person not on your contact list to
attempt to exploit unpatched or as-yet-undiscovered security holes in
netpbm and ogg123. Yeemp will now warn of unencrypted or unvalidated
files, and can now also use Subterfugue sandboxes around netpbm and
ogg123 invocations.
