[001] - abcm2ps 4.7.5 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Thu, Oct 14th 2004 06:10

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

  Thu, Oct 14th 2004 06:12

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Active Calendar is a PHP class that generates calendars (month or
year view) as HTML tables (XHTML-Valid). It supports calendar generation
for the years 1971-2037 and can produce static calendars without any links
or calendars with navigation controls, a date picker control, and linked
days. The layout can be configured using CSS, and JavaScript is not
required.

Changes: The class now can optionally create HTML classes on each Sunday
and/or Saturday (CSS layout configuration). The number of months in each
row in the yearview can be defined, so that an 1 to 12 column year
calendar can be generated. A year picker can be generated in the yearview,
and the month navigation controls will be displayed only in the monthview.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: AudienceConnect is a revenue-generating Python CGI solution for
independent content providers. Requests for dynamic content are routed
through PayPal. Previews of that content are generated as static HTML for
search engines to harvest. Self-publishers can upload and publish
remotely, or the editorial CGI can be used to view and publish
submissions. Demo site content is plain text, but AudienceConnect can be
extended to deliver any digital content: sound files, image files, etc.
Installation is very simple; no database technologies are used. The
related modules are completely independent and require only access to
Python 1.5.2 in your cgi-bin.

Changes: An optional email link can be added for submitting new topics.
The server footprint reduced by putting the HTML form into a Python class.
Minor fixes were made.

[013] - Conary 0.10.10

  Thu, Oct 14th 2004 14:16

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather then having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: File dependencies are enabled. Entering metadata, including
importing data from freshmeat, is now functional, and imported data has
its source recorded. The repository is much faster at listing troves. When
resolving dependencies, the client concatenates the changesets it fetches,
avoiding multiple simultaneous open file descriptors for a transaction.

[015] - Custom Strategy Role Playing Game 0.14

  Thu, Oct 14th 2004 15:13

Desktop Environment
Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: Custom Strategy Role Playing Game is an engine for creating
strategy role-playing games. Two players confront two parties of
characters (which have RPG attributes: job, level, exp, skills, etc.) over
a battlefield, and the surviving party wins. Jobs, skills, etc. are stored
in XML custom files. It has a combat style similar to Final Fantasy
Tactics and Shining Force.

Changes: This release adds minor fixes (limits for names, AUTHORS info,
etc.), and custom contender attributes, elemental forces support, and
contender statuses support. Though these parts are mostly complete and can
be tested, some more work is needed to enable them during battles: new
effect and skill support, and rewriting of Contender and Job classes for
using them. Multi-language support is complete for English and Spanish.

[016] - DBMAIL 2.0.0

  Thu, Oct 14th 2004 09:27

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP

About: The DBMAIL package replaces the normal UNIX mailing system. All
email and user data is stored in a database. You can create an unlimited
number of email accounts, which can be checked using the POP3 or IMAP
protocol. Users can maintain their own set of email addresses. It is more
scalable, more secure, and faster than traditional mail systems. DBMAIL
has storage drivers for PostgreSQL and MySQL, and it has authentication
drivers for PostgreSQL, MySQL, and LDAP.

Changes: This new stable version adds an LMTP daemon and two important
IMAP extensions: ACL and NAMESPACE. Other changes are mostly cleanups and
making features more standards compliant. The MTA will now handle bounces
itself. The command line switches for the programs are now consistent, and
the online help was improved. The code has been cleaned up. The build
system used is autotools, in combination with libtool. The database code
for PostgreSQL and MySQL has been merged, leaving only two small driver
files.

Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

About: Domain Technologie Control (DTC) is a Web-based control panel for
hosting that can delegate the task of creating subdomains, email, and FTP
accounts to users for the domain names they own. It has support for many
programs, including bind 8 and 9, MySQL, Apache, PHP 4, qmail, Postfix,
Courier, Dovecot, ProFTPD, Webalizer, and mod-log-sql. It can also
generate backup scripts, calculation scripts, and config files using a
single system UID/GID, and monitor all traffic accounting per user and per
service. It is fully skinnable and translated into several languages.

Changes: This release adds a new password system for the client
interface, making a new password randomly with expiration at each page.
This is to ensure no passwords remains in your browser history or cache
systems (even with https). The client panel is still scriptable using a
plain text pass. Also, there is a beginning of a mini email panel.

  Thu, Oct 14th 2004 20:01

About: drraw is a simple Web-based presentation front-end for RRDtool
that allows you to interactively build graphs of your own design. A graph
definition can be turned into a template which may be applied to many
Round Robin Database files. Unlike most other RRDtool front-ends, drraw
does not take care of collecting data and updating Round Robin database
files. Instead, it specializes in providing an easy means of displaying
collected data, making it a great complement to other RRDtool front-
ends.

Changes: This release brings many minor enhancements, most notably, the
(main page) index is now customizable, the Graph/Template/Dashboard
editors have been improved, and the HTML produced is now Mozilla
friendly.

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: Z39.50

About: The GeoServer project is a full transactional Java (J2EE)
implementation of the OpenGIS Consortium's Web Feature Server (WFS)
specification with a completely integrated Web Map Server (WMS). Users who
would like to access and modify their geographic data over the Internet
using flexible, industry-approved standards should take a look at
GeoServer or one of the existing commercial Web Feature Servers. It is
built as a thin layer on top of the excellent GeoTools2 GIS toolkit, and
includes a STRUTs-based Web administration interface for easy
configuration.

Changes: This release brings some important bugfixes as well as huge
reworking of the developer documentation (user documentation to follow in
the next release). Upgrading from 1.2.2 is recommended, as a bad bug with
schema references snuck in. There are also solid improvements for ArcSDE,
Oracle, and the WMS. If ArcSDE has not worked in the past, there is a good
chance this release will fix it. Oracle inserts on 10g are fixed, along
with transparency support, better error reporting, and static LegendURL
capabilities.

  by paul kremer (http://freshmeat.net/users/nofutureuk/)
  Thu, Oct 14th 2004 12:14

Database
System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: mysqlblasy is a Perl script for automating MySQL database backups.
It uses "mysqldump" for dumping mysql databases to the files sytem. It was
written with automated usage in mind. For example, it is silent during
operation, and only produces noise on errors/problems. It rotates backups
automatically to prevent the backup disk from getting full when the
administrator is on vacation (or is lazy).

Changes: For recursive directory deletions, this release will try to use
File::Path (part of Perl 5.8 CORE). The date in created filenames is fixed
(it had the wrong month).

[063] - netcount 0.8e
  by Heike C. Zimmerer (http://freshmeat.net/users/hcz/)
  Thu, Oct 14th 2004 00:54

System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: netcount is a command line PPP traffic logging and statistics
display tool for Linux. Logging is done via a small shell script which is
called during the ip-up, ip-down, and system startup processes and from
cron, while analysis and printing is done by a program written in Python.
Statistics can be made on a per-call, daily, and/or monthly basis. Also
part of the package is nstat, an X utility to display connection status,
to hang up, and to start and terminate pppd.

Changes: Gentoo was added to the list of supported distributions. A CGI
script was included for adding netcount output to Web pages. An erroneus
condition that manifested itself as an invalid "boot-down" record in the
logs was removed. Some cleanups were made.

[064] - Network Equipment Performance Monitor 2.1
  by jimesh (http://freshmeat.net/users/jimesh/)
  Thu, Oct 14th 2004 20:01

Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Archiving
System :: Logging

About: NEPM monitors and reports uptime, critical events and their
predecessors, access rates, bytes-served rates, and error rates for
network node equipment. Hardware and software elements within the nodes
are tracked and reported separately to make possible rapid fault
isolation. It is a very general, highly configurable, two-part software
system that captures and analyzes logged performance data from
IP-networked equipment and reports it via email and Web pages. Current
conditions and history from systems based on Windows NT/2000, Unix, and
Unix-style operating systems can be tracked and reported. Most major
server, switch and router systems can be monitored, without running agents
on the target systems. NEPM itself is system-independent and can be hosted
on either a Unix or Win NT system or a combination of these with equal
ease.

Changes: This release fixes a connection timeout that truncated
monitoring data on very large transfers. It also fixes a bug in leap year
day handling.

[065] - ngetdaemon 0.27
  by saunders (http://freshmeat.net/users/saunders/)
  Thu, Oct 14th 2004 00:42

Communications :: Usenet News

About: ngetdaemon allows quick and efficient perusing and downloading from
Usenet remotely. Updating and sorting of all headers is done with one
click. The strongest feature is that posts are grouped together in 'file
groups', meaning a post consisting of 100 files is compacted into one line
and determined to be complete, incomplete, par fills, etc. There are no
pretty buttons, animations, etc. Everything is designed to create as
little strain on bandwidth as possible.

Changes: A 'decoding' status for when downloading files and a 'saving
cache' status for when downloading headers were added. A cancelling option
for when downloading headers was implemented, start and end times were
added to the posts GUI, the ability to manually purge 'junk' posts waqs
added, and a limit was added to SQL statements to save memory. Major
speedups were achived when monitoring nget process logs (daemon and GUI).
A new "gallina" style was added. The useless 'group #xxx' statements were
removed from the logs and minor HTML updates and many small tweaks and
fixes were made.

Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: pmacct is a set of network tools to gather IP traffic information
(bytes counter and number of packets). Aggregation of statistics is done
using simple primitives (MAC addresses, VLAN IDs, IP addresses, ports, and
IP protocol) that can be used alone or combined together to form complex
aggregation methods. It supports historical counter breakdowns, packet
sampling, and packet tagging. Data can be stored either in a memory table,
an SQL database (MySQL or PostgreSQL), or printed to stdout, and recovery
actions are available to avoid data loss during DB failures. Both the pcap
library and NetFlow are supported.

Changes: Support for the definition of a 'known port' list was introduced
along with support for both weekly and monthly counter breakdowns. A '-i'
command-line switch was added to 'pmmyplay' and 'pmpgplay' to avoid UPDATE
SQL queries and skip directly to INSERTs. The logfile player was optimized

[087] - the breve simulation environment 2.0
  by jklein (http://freshmeat.net/users/jklein/)
  Thu, Oct 14th 2004 06:39

Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence

About: breve is a 3D simulation environment designed for the simulation of
decentralized systems and artificial life. While the concept is similar to
existing packages such as Swarm and StarLogo, the implementation, which
simulates both continuous time and continuous 3D space, is quite
different. It also includes an experimental physics engine, allowing the
user to implement real-time physical simulations. Simulations are written
in a simple object-oriented language called "steve". Users define an
agent's behavior by specifying how the agent interacts with the world at
each timestep and how the agent interacts when it collides with other
agents. The ultimate goal of the system is to allow decentralized
simulations to be implemented quickly and easily while providing a
sophisticated set of object classes and libraries to facilitate the
construction of advanced artificial life simulations.

Changes: This release features full integration with the push programming
language for evolutionary computation, a new API to interface with breve
from other languages, major improvements to graphics and rendering
capabilities, and much more.

[093] - webCDwriter 2.6.90 (Development)
  by Jörg P. M. Haeger (http://freshmeat.net/users/jhaeger/)
  Thu, Oct 14th 2004 09:05

Internet
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
System :: Networking

About: webCDwriter can be used to make the CD- and DVD-writer(s) connected
to a Linux box available to all users in your network. It consists of the
server CDWserver and the clients webCDcreator and rcdrecord. CDWserver
stores the files transmitted by the clients, reserves the CD-writer and
controls the CD-writer using cdrecord. webCDcreator is a Java applet that
runs within your browser or by Java Web Start, assists you when putting
together a CD, and transmits the files. Finally rcdrecord is a command
line client that tries to offer the functionality of cdrecord over the
network with full multi-user support.

Changes: This release adds the possibility to use a different MP3 decoder
and to manually list the writers in case the auto detection fails. The
optional PAM user authentication requests were moved to a child process.
The client webCDcreator now uses a configuration file to save some
settings.
