Communications :: Email :: Address Book
Information Management
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks

About: Mail Groupware combines the ability to share address books,
calendar items, and tasks among groups of users with optional permission
levels. It provides a complete Web- based groupware system for users within
 your organization and provides an Outlook 2003/2000 to Web
synchronization utility for Contacts and Calendar data.

Changes: This version updates the Synchronization Utility between Mail
and the Outlook Client, updates LDAP support with the address book, and
improves the address book sorting.

[002] - a-renet 1.1.0rc4
  by Claudio (http://freshmeat.net/users/sick_soul/)
  Mon, Oct 18th 2004 10:31

Communications :: Chat
Games/Entertainment

About: a-renet is a distributed chat and multiplayer games network. It
supports client-server TCP-based games.

Changes: This release adds improvements in the network protocol, which now
includes congestion and latency handling, timeouts, and keepalive probes.
These changes are reflected in many new network tuning options available
for all modules. The SDL client has been improved, and the still-sketched
GTK client has been reintroduced.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion

About: The abcMIDI suite consists of programs for turning ABC music files
into MIDI and vice versa, typesetting them as PostScript files, and
manipulate them in several ways.

Changes: This release supports the extended syntax for repeats introduced
in the ABC 2.0 standard. Contructs such as |: ... | [1,3 ... :|[2,4 ... :|
now produce the right MIDI sequence.

[004] - Active port forwarder 0.5.5
  by jeremian (http://freshmeat.net/users/jeremian/)
  Mon, Oct 18th 2004 10:39

System :: Networking

About: Active port forwarder uses SSL for secure packet tunneling. It is
designed for people without an external IP who want to make some services
available on the Internet. afserver is placed on the machine with a
publicly accessible address, and afclient is placed on the machine behind
a firewall or masquerade. This makes the second machine visible to the
Internet. Running afserver does not require root priviledges, nor does it
use threads or other processes.

Changes: A major bug in packet buffering has been fixed. The module system
has grown up. Afclient is now generating RSA keys by default. It is now
possible to use several clients per realm.

[005] - Amedes 0.3
  by Sébastien Ducoulombier (http://freshmeat.net/users/sebd/)
  Mon, Oct 18th 2004 06:41

Information Management

About: Amedes is a member file management system based on the Expression
Web application framework. It aims to help with day-to-day tasks and
communication within organizations. Its basic purpose is to manage cards
containing information about members, including each name, address, phone
number, and fees paid. Member information is accessed by each person in
charge according to his own role in the organization, allowing you to
distribute responsibilities among the organization.

Changes: Cards within search results are modifiable. Stylesheets (page
layout, criteria editor, fonts, colors, etc.) were completely rewritten.
There are fewer pages, and everything you can edit is editable by default
(no more "view only" pages).

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: ASCIIweb is a text-to-HTML formatting system that uses the 'pre'
tag to create ASCII art Web pages, either on-the-fly or for static
retrieval. It has a simple and flexible module system that also allows you
to integrate shell scripts and practically any text output into your Web
pages. It will also parse and include live Apache-style directory listings
into your pages, giving you a creative and good looking way to make files
available to your users. It looks just as good in Lynx as it does in
Mozilla.

  Mon, Oct 18th 2004 23:15

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: AudienceConnect is a revenue-generating Python CGI solution for
independent content providers. Requests for dynamic content are routed
through PayPal. Previews of that content are generated as static HTML for
search engines to harvest. Self-publishers can upload and publish
remotely, or the editorial CGI can be used to view and publish
submissions. Demo site content is plain text, but AudienceConnect can be
extended to deliver any digital content: sound files, image files, etc.
Installation is very simple; no database technologies are used. The
related modules are completely independent and require only access to
Python 1.5.2 in your cgi-bin.

Changes: An unnecessary password list was removed.

[008] - Bandwidth Monitor NG 0.4-pre1 (Development)
  by Volker Gropp (http://freshmeat.net/users/vgropp/)
  Mon, Oct 18th 2004 09:04

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Bandwidth Monitor NG is a small and simple curses-based bandwidth
monitor for Linux or other systems with /proc/net/dev or net-tools
netstat. You can choose whether to show all interfaces or only those
interfaces that are up.

Changes: get_iface_stats was cleaned up. Plain and CSV output were added.
The big bwm-ng.c file was split. An interface list was added (whitelist).
The build options now use "-lncurses" instead of "-lcurses" in an attempt
to improve portability.

[009] - Bash.Diff 1.7
  by William Park (http://freshmeat.net/users/opengeometry/)
  Mon, Oct 18th 2004 14:03

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Shells

About: Bash.Diff is a patch against Bash that incorporates many useful
features from Awk, Python, Zsh, Ksh, and others. In the main core, it adds
the following: new brace expansion {a..b}, new parameter expansion
${var|...}, new command substitution $(=...), extended for, while, and
until loops, extended case statement, new try-block with integer
exception, and new here document <&lt+. As builtin commands, it adds the
following: sscanf(3), strcat(3), and strcpy(3) wrappers, a variety of
array and regex(3) operations, GDBM, SQLite, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
database interfaces, an HTML template engine (BASP), stack/queue
operations on positional parameters and arrays, Expat XML parser
interface, simple x-y character plot, DOS line support, and simple Awk
emulation.

Changes: 'arrayunzip' is added, which is the inverse of 'arrayzip'. Two
built in commands, 'toascii' and 'tostring', are added to facilitate
operating on individual characters. They are reminiscent of chr()/asc() in
other languages. There is more documentation.

  Mon, Oct 18th 2004 02:19

Internet :: Log Analysis
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Page Counters

About: BBclone is a PHP Web counter on steroids which displays individual
logs as well as aggregated data. It is a clone of Big Brother webstats,
except that it is written in PHP and it relies only on flat files (no
database needed). BBclone enables any Web site administrator to have a
very precise view of who visit the website: OS, browser, date, referring
page etc. Main features include reload resistance, hostname resolution,
proxy workaround, and blacklist.

Changes: In this release, keywords from search engines now get encoded to
defined language (or a specified charset), if PHP supports it. Hostnames
are now only resolved and and their extension looked up if actually
needed. There is a verbose debug mode for troubleshooting, improved
referrer filtering, improved client verification of transparent proxies,
a new Slovenian translation, and detection rules, translation, and
documentation updates.

About: BigBrother generates statistics and graphs about your away message
history on instant messaging networks. It logs your away messages, then
uses that log to generate a report with graphs about when and how often
you do different things.

Changes: Two bugs have been fixed: one that occasionally caused away
messages to be replaced with Online, and one that logged away messages
from non-account screen names (like system status updates).

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Address Book
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)

About: Brutus is an Exchange connector and development framework that
offers access to all of MAPI and therefore to all versions of Microsoft
Exchange from version 5.5 onwards. It is a complete wrapping of all of
MAPI into a (large) set of CORBA interfaces. It enables any groupware
client to integrate seamlessly into any organization with large Exchange
deployments on an equal footing with MS Outlook. Being based on CORBA, it
is platform independent, and works equally well on Linux, the BSDs,
Windows, or wherever there is a CORBA implementation available.

Changes: New property tags have been added to "idl/defines.idl". Those
tags has been added to the textual conversion helper class in
"idl/samples/C++/proptags/proptag.h". The sample/ test client now prints
all properties of the default message store and the Contacts folder to
stdout. The sample/test client is now doing what most people need.

[018] - CGIScripter 2.35
  by David Simpson (http://freshmeat.net/users/dsimpson1/)
  Mon, Oct 18th 2004 02:15

About: CGIScripter automates the development of Perl CGI scripts for
MySQL, Oracle, Access, SQL Server, Sybase, DB2, PostgreSQL, FrontBase, and
FileMaker 7 databases. Perl CGI scripts are generated for each form
specified within CGIScripter and include customized data entry and data
validation for each Web form. The Perl CGI scripts generated by
CGIScripter also provide support for insert/update/view/delete of GIF/JPEG
images via a Web-based interface. Critical Web form processing parameters
are hard-coded within each script instead of being accepted via POST or
GET operations in order to prevent Web form hijacking.

Changes: Improvements to this version of CGIScripter include support for
generating Perl CGI scripts for FileMaker 7 databases (for Windows only),
improved Perl CGI script generation for Oracle 10G databases, and the
ability to enter Oracle service names with more than 8 characters.

Internet
Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: chownat allows two peers behind two separate NATs and firewalls to
establish a direct connection with each other. No port forwarding, DMZ,
third party, proxy, spoofing, elevated user privileges, or DNS tricks are
required. More importantly, it opens up a tunnel between the two machines
so one peer can access a service, such as SSH or a Web server, on the
other machine which is also behind a NAT.

Changes: This release adds lazy buffering and sequencing to account for
dropped packets within an established connection, resolves a UTF-8
language-dependent bug, and adds an additional debugging verbosity
(optional).

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: DirSync is a directory synchronizer. It takes two arguments: the
source directory and the destination directory. It recursively makes the
two directories identical. It can be used to make an incremental copy of
large data. For example, if your file server is in the /data you can make

all data will be copied, but when you issue the command again, only the
changed files are copied.

Changes: A bug which occurred when the source or destination ended with /

About: KDE Image Database (KimDaBa) is a tool for indexing, searching, and
viewing images. The indexing is done by telling KimDaBa who is on the
images, where the images were taken, and (optionally) adding descriptions.
KimDaBa is highly optimized for easy indexing of images, so that it is
possible to use it with thousands of images. It also allows you to browse
your images easily, based on the properties (person, location, keywords)
you specified when indexing.

Changes: The most noticeable change is the new plugin structure (KIPI),
which was created together with the Digikam and Gwenview team. The three
applications now share a common plugin structure, which makes it possible
to write a plugin which works with all three application. It is now
possible to not only share your images with your friend, but also using

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet
System :: Networking

About: p2pshaper is a Linux QoS script to ensure good latency and fairness
on a slow network connection overloaded by file sharing applications. The
primary classification is to classify traffic depending on how much a
connection has downloaded. This is a very effective generic way of
improving fairness. No connection can dominate the link. The script is
further optimized for browsing (HTTP traffic). It also includes support
for add-on classifications to netfilter: the ipp2p match and l7-filter
match. This makes it possible to classify certain types of traffic
precisely. A special queue is reserved for p2p traffic.

Changes: This script has been tested for quite some time to ensure
effectiveness and stability. All rules are created in their own chains,
which greatly improves efficiency.

About: sudosh is a filter that takes advantage of PTY devices in order to
sit between the user's keyboard and a program, in this case a shell. It
was designed specifically to be used in conjunction with sudo, and allows
the execution of a root shell with logging. It is basically a VCR and will
record root shell sessions and also has the ability to play back the
sessions as they were originally recorded. It records all input/output,
keyboard input, and timing information so that the session can be played
back in the original format.

Changes: This version adds timing support for real-time playback of root
sessions. There is also localized logging.

[092] - The Lit Window Library 0.3

  Mon, Oct 18th 2004 07:42

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: The Lit Window Library is a C++ library which provides
"reflections" (extended runtime type information), adds "rules" to the
"methods, properties, events" GUI coding paradigm, and contains a
collection of frequent UI patterns. The goal of this library is to speed
up GUI coding by a factor of 10. It does so by greatly reducing the amount
of source code necessary to implement common, day-to-day user interface
requirements. This is not just another "better widgets" library. The
library introduces two new, different concepts to UI coding: a data
abstraction layer (reflections) and rule-based programming.

[093] - Traffic Control Super Script 2.6
  by Kegan Holtzhausen (http://freshmeat.net/users/marzubus/)
  Mon, Oct 18th 2004 03:23

System :: Networking

About: Traffic Control Super Script is used for traffic shaping of
Internet (IP) traffic passing through a NAT/bridge box with only one
hosts-config file with one line per host configs. TCSS can manage
bandwidth to user-specified speeds based on the u32 classifier. TCSS uses
the iproute2-u32 classifier to identify traffic by source, dest,
sourceport, destport, proto, and tos. It then limits the rate of
connection in either a single or a bidirectional fashion.

Changes: In this release, an IFNOT function was added so hosts and ranges
can be negated in the config file. More debug information was added. The
environment was optimized for iptables rather than the u32 classifier for
greater control and overall management.

[099] - WebWork MVC Framework 2.1.4
  by Pat Lightbody (http://freshmeat.net/users/plightbo/)
  Mon, Oct 18th 2004 02:15

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: WebWork MVC Framework is a Java pull HMVC Web application
framework, designed for creating dynamic websites using minimal effort
and maximum flexibility. It supports multiple views, allowing you to
switch between different view technologies, including HTML, Swing, PDF,
XSLT, and Velocity, without changing the logic producing the data. It
includes a powerful expression language for navigating its object stack,
as well as a small but complete tag library. It supports
internationalization, redirection, error handling, validation, command
driven actions, chaining actions, and type conversions.

Changes: This release introduces an alternative syntax for JSP taglibs.
While it is optional and turned off by default, this syntax will
eventually become the standard after the 2.1.x releases are finished and
the 2.2.x releases start.

[101] - Wiclear 0.5
  by David Jobet (http://freshmeat.net/users/djobet/)
  Mon, Oct 18th 2004 15:43

About: Wiclear aims to provide a simple, small, and accessible wiki. It
supports the XHTML and CSS W3C specifications. There is a simple install
program and an admin panel. All content is classified via a tree-like
structure. The wiki in itself is easily themeable (same capabilities as
dotclear), is multilingual, commentable, and supports history, diffs, and
editions. There are several types of users: admins, moderators, and simple
users. Moderators and admins can edit ACLs to reduce the number of people
allowed to modify a particular page. They can remove comments or
particular version of the content. Admins can edit/delete users, create
groups, edit them, set global rights (anonymous post, anonymous comments,
etc.), change themes, etc.

Changes: This release adds bugfixes, a new user status (moderator), ACLs,
group editing, an admin panel with new db facilities (check, repair), a
style rewrite to better fit IE's bugs, a nested set model to allow the
applying of recursive operations on the whole tree or on a subset cheaply,
comment deletion, history deletion, and an improved default style.
