Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries
About: 4tH is a Forth compiler with a little difference. Instead of the
standard Forth engine it features a conventional compiler. 4tH is a very
small compiler that can create bytecode, C-embeddable bytecode, standalone
executables, but also works fine as a scripting language. It supports over
85% of the ANS Forth CORE wordset and features conditional compilation,
pipes, files, assertions, forward declarations, recursion, include files,
etc. It comes with an RPN calculator, line editor, compiler, decompiler,
C-source generators, and a virtual machine.
Changes: SOURCE and SOURCE! words were added, making it possible to
process text files with arbitrary line lengths. A tokenizing library was
added and the CORE EXT library was rewritten, adding the SOURCE-ID,
SAVE-INPUT, and RESTORE-INPUT words.

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.
Changes: "%%dynalign" and "dyn=up/down/auto" in V: fields were added.
Dynamics decorations now have a smaller vertical space.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Active Calendar is a PHP class that generates calendars (month or
year view) as HTML tables (XHTML-Valid). It supports calendar generation
for the years 1971-2037 and can produce static calendars without any links
or calendars with navigation controls, a date picker control, and linked
days. The layout can be configured using CSS, and JavaScript is not
required.
Changes: A new method setEvent() has been added to support "calendar
events". The class can now create a different HTML class on each date set
by the method setEvent(), so that the layout of each "event date" can be
configured using CSS. Some additional code cleanup has been made, and the
size of the class has been reduced.

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: Aiee! is a simple, easy-to-use text adventure ("interactive
fiction" or "Infocom game") engine that uses XML-based adventure files.
Changes: This is mostly a bugfix release, but the important "take all"
feature was also added. Multiple direct objects are now supported by all
commands where they make sense. A distinction is now made between "r"
(ready/remove toggle), "ready", and "remove". Encumbrance is listed in
"inv". Container contents don't count against your weight limit, only the
container's weight does. The bug where exits declared "visible" weren't
being listed was fixed. The adventure file list is now sorted for
convenience. Scoring was fixed. A menu key bug was fixed. Preparation was
made for the GUI adventure generator.

by constans (http://freshmeat.net/users/constans/)
Tue, Oct 19th 2004 11:56
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Scientific/Engineering
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX
About: cb2Bib is a convenient application for rapidly extracting
biblographic references from email alerts, journal Web pages, or PDF
files. It facilitates the capture of single references from unformatted
sources. The references are then written in the BibTeX standard. A PDF
file with the article text, if available, can be easily linked and renamed
by dragging it onto the cb2Bib window. Reference manager applications can
later retrieve, import, and display these BibTeX references.
Changes: This release adds support for multiple article file processing by
calling user-defined, external to_text converters. Automatic detection of
references on printform documents can be difficult, however. Hopefully,
this new feature will bring some future development of better recognition
and processing.

Tue, Oct 19th 2004 12:06
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Tcl Extensions
About: MIB Smithy SDK is a dynamic extension to Tcl/Tk (8.1+) that allows
development of custom scripts for controlling SNMP agents, manipulating
SMI definitions, doing conversions, and more. It is based on the core of
Muonics' MIB Smithy, and the SDK supports SMIv1 and SMIv2, as well as
SNMPv1/v2c/v3 with HMAC-SHA-96 and HMAC-MD5-96 authentication and CBC-DES
privacy. It also provides complete read-write access to all elements of
SMI/MIB Module definitions, unlike similar extensions that provide only
read access to a limited subset. The SDK allows multiple discrete SMI
databases and SNMP sessions, and provides all of the built-in validation
and error recovery capabilites of the full product, without the visual MIB
development environment.
Changes: A handful of minor, related bugs introduced with 3.1b1's
optimizations and memory overhaul has been corrected. These included one
incorrect error in the setting of certain MIB record properties, a
deadlock in the "oidcmp" command, an extra dot prefix in OIDs returned by
SNMP requests, and OID instance identifier parsing.

[048] - MoSSHe 1.1.4
by Volker Tanger (http://freshmeat.net/users/vtanger/)
Tue, Oct 19th 2004 02:06
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: MoSSHe (MOnitoring with SSH Environment) is a simple, lightweight
(both in size and system requirements) server monitoring package designed
for secure and in-depth monitoring of a number of typical Internet
systems. It was developed to keep the impact on network and performance
low, and to use a safe, encrypted connection for in-depth inspection of
the system checked. It is not possible to remotely run (more or less
arbitrary) commands via the monitoring system, nor is unsafe cleartext
SNMP messaging necessary (yet possible). A read-only Web interface makes
monitoring and status checks simple (and safe) for admins and helpdesk.
Checking scripts for remote and local systems (disk space, load,
processes, users), common services (SMTP, POP3, HTTP) and SNMP queries are
included.
Changes: A -n flag was added to PING to prevent DNS lookups. DNS and SAMBA
service tests were added and printer and memory checks were added to

About: OpenSkat is an cryptographically secure implementation of the

The fairness is based on several zero-knowledge-proofs from Christian
Schindelhauers research paper "A Toolbox for Mental Card Games". It has a
graphical user interface based on xskat 3.4. The modified sources are
included and require an X11 environment.
Changes: The communication complexity has been decreased enormously by
using the VTMF cryptographic primitive due to Barnett and Smart (from the
research paper "Mental Poker Revisited"). Small security fixes have been
