[001] - Another File Integrity Checker 2.4-0
  by Gerbier Eric (http://freshmeat.net/users/gerbier/)
  Wed, Oct 20th 2004 07:38

Security
System :: Systems Administration

About: afick is another file integrity checker, designed to be fast and
fully portable between Unix and Windows platforms. It works by first
creating a database that represents a snapshot of the most essential parts
of your computer system. You can then run the script to discover all
modifications made since the snapshot was taken (i.e. files added,
changed, or removed). The configuration syntax is very close to that of
aide or tripwire, and a graphical interface is provided.

Changes: The installer was changed to work on AIX. On Windows, the
installer asks for service planning dates. A new directive was added:
exclude_prefix. Dates are now in local time.

[002] - AppWrap 0.12
  by PlanetMan (http://freshmeat.net/users/PlanetMan/)
  Wed, Oct 20th 2004 13:07

Database :: Front-Ends
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: AppWrap is a self-organizing Content Management System. All data
managed is input and maintained by users, and the program provides access
and storage. It is designed so that an administrator can easily increase
the scope of data under management. The distribution includes sample
tables and reports for recording and displaying status for project
managers. These examples can be adapted for specific needs, and complete
documentation is included for adding new data sets and custom development.
AppWrap is intended for managing mildly dynamic data without the labor of
hand-coding and managing multiple CGI forms and templates, or the expense
of CRM systems.

Changes: The current "tabbed folders" site navigation metaphor is
retained, but was changed to use a single tab image that is manipulated
using CSS. Previously, each unique tab required 2 separate images.
Gecko-based browsers and Opera handle this well; IE works but disappoints.
Several minor bugfxes also were applied.

[003] - AutoOpts 23.0
  by Bruce Korb (http://freshmeat.net/users/bkorb/)
  Wed, Oct 20th 2004 02:52

Software Development
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries

About: AutoOpts is an integrated part of AutoGen. Based on a very simple
option description file, it will process configuration files, environment
variables, command line options, text strings passed by client programs,
and will make the results easily accessible to the client program. It will
also produce a man page and the info-doc invoking section automatically.

Changes: The listing of enumerated option arguments is now more concise.
Options may be handled twice: once during the immediate phase and during
"normal" processing. The "${PROGNAME}" environment variable can be
processed tokenizing and processing it as a list of command line
options. There is a new main procedure type, each-or-stdin, which will
fopen() each command line operand and pass the FILE* pointer to the
callout procedure. If there are no operands, then stdin is passed.

About: aviManager helps you manage your (large) movie (DVD, DivX)
collection. It ships with an intelligent voting system for many users, and
attempts to find the best movie to watch. There is also a nice IMdb grabber
for fast movie adding.

Changes: The broken single user mode and a major bug in the database
backend were fixed.

[006] - BLD 0.3.0
  by Olivier Beyssac (http://freshmeat.net/users/obeyssac/)
  Wed, Oct 20th 2004 03:17

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: BLD stands for "blacklist daemon" and is intended to serve a
blacklist. The blacklist is built by simply inserting IP addresses or by
using submission rate limits based on a maximum number of submissions of
the same IP address within a minimum time interval. A BLD cluster can be
built by configuring the daemon to notify other similar daemon(s) every
time an IP address is added to the blacklist. BLD was primarily designed
to fight against dictionary-based spam (by making the MTA report to BLD
any host that tried to send email to an unknown user), but can be used by
any program.

Changes: This release adds some code cleanups, bugfixes, the
configuration file support, the ability to insert an IP address in the
blacklist (without any connection rate limit computing algorithm), and
communication between multiple BLD daemons making clusters possible.

disconnection. Also, if you quit the program while transfers are still in
progress, it will switch to nohup mode and finish the transfers in the
background. Additional protocols supported: FTP over HTTP proxy, HTTPS and
FTP over SSL. There are lots of tunable parameters, including rate
limitation, number of connections limitation and more.

Changes: Better mirror -R completion has been added. An upload retry
corruption bug and a rare core dump in parallel mirror have been fixed.
This release will not retry the wrong password in the fish and SFTP
protocols.

[029] - libsrs2 1.0.18
  by Shevek (http://freshmeat.net/users/shevek/)
  Wed, Oct 20th 2004 03:20

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Software Development :: Libraries

About: libsrs2 is the next generation SRS library. SPF verifies that the
Sender address of an email message matches (according to some policy) the
client IP address that submitted it. When a message is forwarded, the
sender address must be rewritten to comply with SPF policy. The Sender
Rewriting Scheme, or SRS, provides a standard for this rewriting that is
not vulnerable to attacks by spammers, is easy to parse by common mail
filters, and handles multiple hops neatly and safely.

Changes: This version fixes all known bugs. It compiles cleanly on all
accessible Solaris versions. It adds an alwaysrewrite feature to command
line systems, and a sendmail M4 hack.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Scientific/Engineering

About: Moodss is a modular monitoring application, which supports
operating systems (Linux, UNIX, Windows, etc.), databases (MySQL, Oracle,
PostgreSQL, DB2, ODBC, etc.), networking (SNMP, Apache, etc.), and any
device or process for which a module can be developed (in Tcl, Python,
Perl, Java, and C). An intuitive GUI with full drag'n'drop support allows
the construction of dashboards with graphs, pie charts, etc., while the
thresholds functionality includes warning by emails and user defined
scripts. Any part of the visible data can be archived in an SQL database
by both the GUI and the companion daemon, so that complete history over
time can be made available from Web pages, common spreadsheet software,
etc.

Changes: It is now possible to choose the position of data cells labels in
graph and bar chart viewers. Perl modules can now use threads and post
messages for the user. The usual bugfixes and minor improvements were also

  Wed, Oct 20th 2004 06:04

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
Security

About: Motiontrack is a set of tools that detects motion between two
images. It is able to successfully distinguish random flicker from real
object movement by applying a set of filters to the images, and can
optionally ignore given colors and/or image regions. The roadmap provides
for being able to identify objects by pattern detection and AI routines.
Currently, this part is able to turn line-art images into ASCII-art text
and auto-align images which are slightly staggered or contorted. This
might also be useful to correct the perspective of image sources from
different 3D angles.

Changes: Movement Sectors are now visually outlined in the output image,
and the speed of the sector check has been improved. Note that the names
of most executables were changed to more unique ones to prevent conflicts
with other projects, so scripts using motiontrack might have to be
altered.

[042] - OpenPKG 2.2
  by Ralf S. Engelschall (http://freshmeat.net/users/rse/)
  Wed, Oct 20th 2004 06:19

About: OpenPKG is a flexible and powerful software packaging facility that
eases installation and administration of Unix software across several
platforms. Consolidating different vendor approaches into a unified
architecture, it assists in administration of large networks previously
complicated by nonconformant systems. It uses RPM to provide an additional
system layer on top of the operating system. It is fully self-contained (no
RPM pre-installation is required), installs itself by means of a tricky
bootstrapping procedure with minimal operating system intrusion, and
supports multiple installation instances.

Changes: This version consists of 528 packages, selected from a pool of
800, all carefully packaged for easy deployment on 18 different Unix
platforms. The major technical efforts for this release were spent on
reducing the requirements on the underlying Unix platforms and further
improving the portability of the packages. Additionally, it was ensured
that a smooth upgrade path exists from OpenPKG 2.1.

System :: Boot
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
System :: Power (UPS)

About: Software suspend allows you to suspend your machine without needing
APM, BIOS, or ACPI support. It creates an image that is saved in your
active swap partition, swap files, or (soon) across a network. At the next
system boot, the kernel detects the saved image, restores the memory from
it and then it continues to run as if you'd never powered down.

Changes: Suspend can now be built as modules and resuming activated from
within an initrd. This allows the use of storage devices that were
previously unusable for suspending. Many other improvements and bugfixes
have also been applied. The proc interface is now called

[060] - sudosh 1.3.0
  by Doug Hanks (http://freshmeat.net/users/dhanks/)
  Wed, Oct 20th 2004 23:05

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
System :: Operating System

About: sudosh is a filter that takes advantage of PTY devices in order to
sit between the user's keyboard and a program, in this case a shell. It
was designed specifically to be used in conjunction with sudo, and allows
the execution of a root shell with logging. It is basically a VCR and will
record root shell sessions and also has the ability to play back the
sessions as they were originally recorded. It records all input/output,
keyboard input, and timing information so that the session can be played
back in the original format.

Changes: This version added full support for AIX with GCC, generic Linux
distributions (including Red Hat, SuSE, and Fedora), and full support for
AMD64 SuSE 8.1, SPARC Solaris 5.9, and x86 SunOS Solaris 5.9. A problem
where the sudosh-replay script was not replaying the scripts correctly in
relation to the timing file was fixed. This version is ready for use on
production servers.

[062] - The Boost Libraries 1.31.0
  by linux (http://freshmeat.net/users/brainless/)
  Wed, Oct 20th 2004 02:58

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Boost was begun by members of the C++ standards committee Library
Working Group to provide free peer-reviewed portable libraries to the C++
community. An additional objective is to establish "existing practice" and
provide reference implementations so that the Boost libraries are suitable
for eventual standardization. Indeed, the explicit intent is to propose
many of these libraries for inclusion in the C++ Standard Library. The
Boost Graph Library, formerly known as the Generic Graph Component Library
(GGCL), is a collection of graph algorithms and data structures created in
the generic programming style of the Standard Template Library (STL).

Changes: The lbraries are updated, with lots and lots of improvements and
new features and components added, including support for Python 2.3 and
Intel C++ on Linux, provision of an element-preserving resize operation
in MultiArray as well as the default construction, a major version
upgrade of the Iterator Library, with an interface as proposed for the
C++ library TR, including an improved iterator_adaptor design. A new
Container Indexing Suite was added. Keyword arguments were improved, and
there are better error messages, including name demangling for GCC. There
is a simpler build procedure, and much more.

About: The Freiburg project is an infrastructure to replace shared
libraries with a client/server interface. This system converts a shared
library into a "service" using Unix or inet domain sockets for
communication. The "service" will be usable by any programming language
without additional C programming requirements. An application is a
composition of multiple services using an event-based message bus for
communication. A service can reside locally or remotely using the "client"
or the inetd super-server for startup.

[078] - ZINC interpreter 1.04
  by The Zinc Team (http://freshmeat.net/users/zinc/)
  Wed, Oct 20th 2004 22:48

Games/Entertainment

About: Zinc (the Z-machine Including Network Capabilities) allows you to
play text adventure games (also known as interactive fiction) either on
your own, or cooperatively over a network. It comes with interpreters for
two of the most popular interactive fiction file formats--Z-machine games
and TADS games. A common problem when playing adventure games is drawing a
map of the game world. Seasoned players will be glad to hear that Zinc has
a powerful map facility to make this process as painless as possible.
Zinc's networking capabilities are possibly unique. They enable several
players to work together to try to solve a game.

Changes: This release fixed several crashes, bugs, and other oddities. The
main problem addressed was a possible hang or crash when starting the
program for the first time, causing it to start every gamefile present
under the installation directory. The saving of games, including the map,
over the network was improved, as was feedback when an unsupported game
save/load operation is performed.
