[001] - AndroMDA 2.03 Final
  by linux (http://freshmeat.net/users/brainless/)
  Sat, Oct 23rd 2004 01:08

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: AndroMDA is a code generation framework that follows the model
driven architecture (MDA) paradigm. It takes a UML model from a CASE-tool
and generates classes and deployable components (J2EE or other).

Changes: This release includes a change in the HibernateEntity.vsl
template to work around a regression in XDoclet's hibernate module.

[002] - Arbitrary Command Output Colourer 0.6.0
  by Ian Macdonald (http://freshmeat.net/users/ianmacd/)
  Sat, Oct 23rd 2004 06:50

Desktop Environment :: Theme
Desktop Environment :: Theme Resources :: Fonts
System :: Console Fonts

About: acoc is a regular-expression based colour formatter for programs
that display output on the command-line. It works as a wrapper around the
target program, executing it and capturing the stdout stream. Optionally,
stderr can be redirected to stdout, so that it, too, can be manipulated.
acoc then applies matching rules to patterns in the output and applies
colours to those matches.

Changes: A user-definable config file may now be specified in $ACOCRC, and
new coloring specs were added for netstat, nmap, and other commands.

[003] - AudienceConnect 1.0.beta.26
  by Richard Harris (http://freshmeat.net/users/goosequill/)
  Sat, Oct 23rd 2004 13:07

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: AudienceConnect is a revenue-generating Python CGI solution for
independent content providers. Requests for dynamic content are routed
through PayPal. Previews of that content are generated as static HTML for
search engines to harvest. Self-publishers can upload and publish
remotely, or the editorial CGI can be used to view and publish
submissions. Demo site content is plain text, but AudienceConnect can be
extended to deliver any digital content: sound files, image files, etc.
Installation is very simple; no database technologies are used. The
related modules are completely independent and require only access to
Python 1.5.2 in your cgi-bin.

Changes: Removing an author now deletes the author's directory, removes
all of the author's previews, and respawns the site. Deletion of property
data now deletes the property file, removes any previews, renumbers any
sets, updates the latest list, and respawns the author. Deletion of static
HTML files was moved to the admin-restricted list. Respawn aborts if an
author has no contact file. Latest-list handling now allows deletion of
multiple files.

[004] - Bash.Diff 1.8
  by William Park (http://freshmeat.net/users/opengeometry/)
  Sat, Oct 23rd 2004 06:44

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Shells

About: Bash.Diff is a patch against Bash that incorporates many useful
features from Awk, Python, Zsh, Ksh, and others. In the main core, it adds
the following: new brace expansion {a..b}, new parameter expansion
${var|...}, new command substitution $(=...), extended for, while, and
until loops, extended case statement, new try-block with integer
exception, and new here document <&lt+. As builtin commands, it adds the
following: sscanf(3), strcat(3), and strcpy(3) wrappers, a variety of
array and regex(3) operations, GDBM, SQLite, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
database interfaces, an HTML template engine (BASP), stack/queue
operations on positional parameters and arrays, Expat XML parser
interface, simple x-y character plot, DOS line support, and simple Awk
emulation.

Changes: Added shell versions of strcat(3), strcpy(3), strlen(3),
strcmp(3), toupper(3), tolower(3), and toascii(3), so that the user can
easily perform traditional string operations in shell script, and fixed
'tostring' to handle strings containing nulls.

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: Blob Wars: Metal Blob Solid is a 2D mission-based platform game.
Since their world was invaded by an alien race, the Blobs have faced a
lifetime of war. But now they have a chance to win the war once and for
all. In Episode I: Metal Blob Solid, you take on the role of a fearless
Blob agent, Bob. Bob's mission is to infiltrate the various enemy bases
around the Blobs' homeworld and rescue as many POWs as possible. But
standing in his way are many vicious enemies, other Blobs who have been
assimilated, and the evil alien leader, Galdov.

Changes: This version changes the temporary extraction directory to a
subdirectory of the users home directory, remembers the gore setting
between invocations, added all extreme mode time limits, updated graphics,
improved antialiasing in some cutscenes, and made various gameplay tweaks.

[011] - Doodle 0.6.0
  by Christian Grothoff (http://freshmeat.net/users/grothoff/)
  Sat, Oct 23rd 2004 15:41

Information Management
Information Management :: Document Repositories
Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models

About: Doodle is a tool that searches your hard drive for files using
pattern matching on meta-data. It extracts meta-data using libextractor
and builds a suffix tree to index the files. The index can then be
searched rapidly. It is similar to locate, but can take advantage of
information such as ID3 tags.

Changes: This release changes the database format, resulting in up to 20%
savings in database size and up to 25% savings in search time, under
certain circumstances. A new tool called doodled was added. doodled is a
daemon that sits in the background, watches for changes to files, and
updates the database immediately. This eliminates the possibility of stale
data and the need for periodic re-indexing.

[015] - InformationSpace 0.4.3
  by hybridmachine (http://freshmeat.net/users/hybridmachine/)
  Sat, Oct 23rd 2004 09:33

Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: InformationSpace is a causal set exploration tool. A causal set is
basically a set of simple rules that define the relationship between bits
in a space time. A common example of this is John Conway's game of life.
InformationSpace supports 3D space/time (2D of space, 1D of time).
Visualization is in 3D, with Z being time.

Changes: This release adds a simple control panel, Morphic UI. This
control panel simplifies the process of creating and visualizing new
explorations. Examples and documentation on using the new control panel
are available on the project site. VisualizeWhirledTea has also been
updated to work with the updates to the TeapotMorph. TeapotMorph has a new
openInWorld method. This new method calls initializeDefaultSpace. In order
to avoid starting with the full demo, VisualizeWhirldTea has overridden
this method with a version that starts with an empty teapot.

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Multimedia

About: libextractor is a library used to extract meta-data from files of
arbitrary type. It is designed to use helper-libraries to perform the
actual extraction, and to be trivially extendable by linking against
external extractors for additional file types. The goal is to provide
developers of file-sharing networks, file managers, and WWW-indexing bots
with a universal library to obtain meta-data about files. libextractor
contains a shell-command "extract" that, similar to the well-known "file"
command, can extract meta-data from a file and print the results to
stdout. Currently, it supports the formats HTML, PDF, PS, OLE2 (doc, xls,
ppt), StarOffice, OpenOffice, MAN, DVI, MP3 (ID3v1, ID3v2), OGG, WAV,
JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, DEB, RPM, TAR(.GZ), ZIP, Real, QT, MPEG, RIFF (AVI),
ASF, and ELF. Various additional MIME types are detected. libextractor can
also be used to compute hash functions (SHA-1, MD5, ripemd160). A Java
binding (JNI) is available.

Changes: This release adds support for ID3v2.3 and ID3v2.4. It also fixes
bugs in the tar, man, deb, mp3, and ole2 extractors.

  Sat, Oct 23rd 2004 12:16

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Filesystems

About: libferris is a virtual filesystem that exposes hierarchical data of
all kinds through a common C++ interface. Access to data is performed using
C++ IOStreams and Extended Attributes (EA) can be attached to each file or
directory to present metadata. Ferris uses a plugin API to read various
data sources and expose them as filesystems and to generate interesting
EA. Current implementations include native (kernel disk IO with event
updates using fam), XML (mount an XML file as a filesystem), DB4, xmldb,
LDAP, HTTP, FTP, eet, sockets, RDF/XML, RDF/bdb, and mbox. EA generators
include image, audio, and animation decoders.

Changes: New Xapian and TSearch2 fulltext indexing modules were added.
XML::readMessage() was uncommented. The default etagere and EA and
Fulltext indexes were updated. Relative time strings are now case
insensitive and handle ctime(3) formatted strings. ferris-capplet-index
now also sets defaults for new EA and Fulltext indexes. A symbol clash
between some PCCTS based modules was fixed. A new ferris-search tool was
added for combined EA and Fulltext queries. The schema for some EXIF EA
were fixed. The manpage as-text EA handler now uses the "col" tool for
formatting. Many other minor fixes were made.

  by EricW (http://freshmeat.net/users/tox6sed8u/)
  Sat, Oct 23rd 2004 15:58

Office/Business :: Office Suites
Other/Nonlisted Topic

About: OpenOffice.org Tools is a GUI-based Java program that complements
OpenOffice. The tools include a Writer file properties viewer, a modified
word counter, and a bibliography converter. The file properties viewer
reads, displays, and searches the properties (title, subject, keywords,
and comments) of all OpenOffice Word Processor documents in a directory.
The view can be customized and auto-loaded on program start-up. The word
counter counts words bounded by spaces. This is different from the word
count provided by OpenOffice, which counts hyphenated words as more than
one word. The bibliography converter imports bibliographic information
from BibTeX and OpenOffice files and exports them to a database format
supported by OpenOffice to be used as a bibliography database.

Changes: The Preferences tab (formerly the Configure tab) was changed in
several ways. The layout was modified, auto-maximize was added, size
adjustments were made for the Bibliography Converter, and the ability to
refresh views without restarting the program was added.

[030] - phpCodeGenie 3.0.2
  by Nilesh Dosooye (http://freshmeat.net/users/nileshd/)
  Sat, Oct 23rd 2004 09:22

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: phpCodeGenie (PCG) is a code generator for database driven
applications. PCG can talk to different databases and generate entire
applications for you. While the core version generates mostly PHP code,
phpCodeGenie can be modified via user plugins to generate code in any
programming language. It will build data entry forms, insert scripts,
database lister scripts, edit record forms, update record scripts, delete
confirmation scripts, delete scripts, search forms, search scripts, and
other frontend/database interaction code. Basically, it provides a basic
code base which you can build on.

Changes: This release fixes a security risk in PCG simple application
generation. If users put arbitrary code in the headers and footers, they
could execute it by going to Web/generatedCode/simple/applicationName.
Although PCG is an application used for developers and as such should not
be put on production or public machines, the author has decided to remove
the custom header and footer textbox from full simple application
generation to prevent this. This release also adds a tool to translate the
PCG user interface and save a new language file.

[032] - PNGwriter 0.5.0
  by individual61 (http://freshmeat.net/users/individual61/)
  Sat, Oct 23rd 2004 07:33

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
Scientific/Engineering

About: The PNGwriter library, which requires libpng, allows you to plot to
a 48-bit PNG file, saving it directly to disk. Plotting is as easy as
specifying the red, green, and blue values and the x, y coordinates of the
pixel. It includes functions for plotting simple geometric shapes (circle,
rect, line), plotting text (UTF-8 support for Asian languages), reading
the colour of a pixel, reading in a whole PNG file (great for image
analysis), plotting and reading in HSV colourspace, and many others that
might come in handy.

Changes: This version adds a function for fast plotting of triangles,
fixes a serious bug in readfromfile() affecting versions compiled on
Windows, and adds another example to the included pngtest program.

[039] - Spam Trainer 0.1.3
  by ashtong (http://freshmeat.net/users/ashtong/)
  Sat, Oct 23rd 2004 01:19

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Desktop Environment :: Gnome

About: Spam Trainer makes it easier for GNOME users to train spam
filtering software (e.g. SpamBayes or SpamAssassin) that "learns" how to
tell the difference between real email (ham) and unsolicited messages
(spam). Not all email clients have spam filtering (and training) built
in, and training external filtering programs can be fiddly. Spam Trainer
provides easy (drag and drop) training from the Evolution mail client, and
should work just as well with any email client that supports the drag and
drop protocol implemented by the GTK+ toolkit.

Changes: This version fixes ham training with Evolution 2.0.
