About: Access Point Utilities for Unix is a set of utilities that
configure and monitor a Wireless Access Point under Unix. It is known to
compile (with GCC and the IBM C compiler) and run under Linux, FreeBSD,
OpenBSD, MacOS X, AIX, and QNX.
Changes: Added a command line utility to change the list of authorised MAC
addresses, added names to the list of APs in the connect phase, fixed
building on FreeBSD, fixed some minor UI issues, added a Turkish

[002] - AlteruPhono 0.2
by Tiago Tresoldi (http://freshmeat.net/users/tresoldi/)
Sun, Oct 24th 2004 00:49
About: AlteruPhono is a software for developing and testing models of
regular phonetic sound changes, simulating the diacronic evolution of a
word. Its rules are developed using the common combination of features
such as point of articulation and vowel roundness.
Changes: This version uses the Hermes library. It adds the ability for a
user to define their own ASCII scheme for phonetic representation or use
IPA in Unicode, more robust rules, the possibility of direct phoneme
feature access, commands for testing equality of phonemes, initial support
for word batch processing, and maintenance of rule order. The graphical
interface now automatically loads a browser for Unicode display, and can
browse rules.

[008] - BINS photo album 1.1.27

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
About: BINS is a valid HTML 4 photo album generator with support for
internationalization, EXIF, and customizable charset encoding, including
UTF-8 (Unicode). Albums can contains other sub-albums. The appearance of
the album can be fully personalized by using template and configuration
parameters. The number and size of scaled pictures can be chosen in pixels
or percentage of the original image. Several description fields (date,
location, etc.) can be associated with the pictures, and you can add
additional description fields. A command line utility or a GTK+ GUI can be
used to set or edit description fields. BINS can use the EXIF data
structure found in some pictures to automatically fill some fields (most
notably, date and time) and to produce a page providing all information
available on the picture, as well as the DigiCam settings when the photo
was taken. All image meta-data are stored in XML files.
Changes: Some bugs have been fixed. A new version of bins-edit-gui with an
album fields editor has been included. A Hungarian translation (hu) has
been added.

by Steffen Beyer (http://freshmeat.net/users/stbey/)
Sun, Oct 24th 2004 12:30
Software Development
Software Development :: Documentation
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Data::Locations is a virtual file manager which allows you to write
and read data (text and binary) to and from virtual files (think of
bubbles). Moreover, this manager allows you to (recursively) define
"magic" insertion points in these virtual files (bubbles inside other
bubbles) which can be filled in (inflated) later (through a "straw", i.e.,
the object's reference), at any convenient time and in any order you like.
Since this software acts purely in memory, there is no slowing down
through costly file input/output (i.e., no temporary files).
Changes: This version fixes the test script "02___refcount.t" for Perl
versions 5.8.5 and higher. An offset varies from Perl version to Perl
version depending on whether self-ties increment the refcount or not.

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
About: Gwenview is a simple image viewer for KDE. Image loading is done by
the Qt library (so it supports all image formats your Qt installation
supports). It features a folder tree window and a file list and thumbnail
window to provide easy navigation in your file hierarchy, and uses docked
windows to allow you to alter the layout in any way you want.
Changes: The application now has two modes: browse and view. Browse mode
shows all views: folder, file, and image. View mode only shows the image.
The JPEGTran code has been integrated into the application. EXIF
thumbnails are now updated when JPEG files are rotated.

by Patrick Lenz (http://freshmeat.net/users/scoop/)
Sun, Oct 24th 2004 08:52
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
About: Postfix is an attempt to provide an alternative to the widely-used
Sendmail program. Postfix attempts to be fast, easy to administer, and
hopefully secure, while at the same time being sendmail compatible enough
to not upset your users.
Changes: This snapshot is expected to be the last one before STARTTLS
support is merged into the main source tree. The NIS+ client by Geoff
Gibbs is now part of the Postfix source tree. By default, Postfix no
longer appends its own domain to addresses in message headers from remote
clients. Thus, spam from poorly written software no longer looks like it
came from a local user. Postfix either does not rewrite remote message
headers at all, or it rewrites headers and appends the domain name that is
specified with the remote_header_rewrite_domain parameter.

About: Raptor is a C library providing a set of parsers and serializers
for Resource Description Framework (RDF) triples by parsing syntaxes into
RDF triples and serializing triples into a syntax. The parsers support
RDF/XML, N-Triples, Turtle, XML RSS, and Atom 0.3 via RSS tag soup. The
serializers support RDF/XML and N-Triples. Raptor handles RDF/XML as used
by RDF applications such as RSS 1.0, FOAF, DOAP, Dublin Core, and OWL. It
can use either expat or libxml2 for XML parsing, libcurl when available
for URI retrieval, and is portable to many POSIX systems.
Changes: A new class was added for serializing RDF triples into a syntax,
initially supporting writing RDF/XML and N-Triples. A new I/O-stream class
was added to support writing, and RSS enclosure support was added to the
RSS tag soup parser.
