[001] - ALE 0.7.2
  by David Hilvert (http://freshmeat.net/users/dhilvert/)
  Wed, Oct 27th 2004 06:33

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: ALE is a program that can render high-fidelity images of real
scenes by aligning and combining many similar images from a camera or
scanner. The correct similarity between images is roughly that achieved by
a somewhat unsteady hand holding a camera.

Changes: This release fixes exclusion region and alignment bugs, adds
device support for the Canon 300D SLR, and incorporates an experimental
framework for reconstruction of 3D scenes.

[002] - Attal: Lords of Doom 0.9.1
  by Pascal Audoux (http://freshmeat.net/users/uposax/)
  Wed, Oct 27th 2004 15:19

About: Attal is a turn-based strategy game. You can play it in stand-alone
mode (against an AI) or against other human players through a network. This
game is open and themeable in order to allow new graphics, new rules, new
campaigns, and new scenarios. A scenario editor and a theme editor are
provided.

Changes: New calendar management. Fast connection (client starts the
server and connects to it). (Auto) fill scenarios with AI. New display of
inside the base. Updated documentation. Added pixmaps for the Mercenary
base (medieval theme). Flag management for bases. Bugfixes.

[003] - AudienceConnect 1.0.beta.30
  by Richard Harris (http://freshmeat.net/users/goosequill/)
  Wed, Oct 27th 2004 10:29

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: AudienceConnect is a revenue-generating Python CGI solution for
independent content providers. Requests for dynamic content are routed
through PayPal. Previews of that content are generated as static HTML for
search engines to harvest. Self-publishers can upload and publish
remotely, or the editorial CGI can be used to view and publish
submissions. Demo site content is plain text, but AudienceConnect can be
extended to deliver any digital content: sound files, image files, etc.
Installation is very simple; no database technologies are used. The
related modules are completely independent and require only access to
Python 1.5.2 in your cgi-bin.

Changes: The return log for purchases and qualify log for submissions are
now dicts based on Julian date. A JULIAN_EXPIRE constant has been added
that determines how many days entries are kept in these Julian logs. This
effectively caps the size on these logs.

[004] - BLD 0.3.1
  by Olivier Beyssac (http://freshmeat.net/users/obeyssac/)
  Wed, Oct 27th 2004 03:40

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: BLD stands for "blacklist daemon" and is intended to serve a
blacklist. The blacklist is built by simply inserting IP addresses or by
using submission rate limits based on a maximum number of submissions of
the same IP address within a minimum time interval. A BLD cluster can be
built by configuring the daemon to notify other similar daemon(s) every
time an IP address is added to the blacklist. BLD was primarily designed
to fight against dictionary-based spam (by making the MTA report to BLD
any host that tries to send email to an unknown user), but can be used by
any program.

Changes: This release added support for Postfix, a way to decrement the
counter for an IP, and some bugfixes.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Address Book
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)

About: Brutus is an Exchange connector and development framework that
offers access to all of MAPI and therefore to all versions of Microsoft
Exchange from version 5.5 onwards. It is a complete wrapping of all of
MAPI into a (large) set of CORBA interfaces. It enables any groupware
client to integrate seamlessly into any organization with large Exchange
deployments on an equal footing with MS Outlook. Being based on CORBA, it
is platform independent, and works equally well on Linux, the BSDs,
Windows, or wherever there is a CORBA implementation available.

Changes: The Makefile was cleaned up, and a directory reorganization was
done to prepare for the development source tree of the Evolution Brutus
plugin.

Information Management

About: Bugzero is a Web-based bug tracking, defect tracking, issue
tracking, and change management system used in a distributed team
environment to track software bugs, hardware defects, test cases, or any
other issues. It can also be used equally well as a helpdesk customer
support, trouble ticketing, or email management system to collect and
manage customer feedbacks, incidents, requests, and issues. It is easy to
use, but still flexible and adaptive, and can be configured to fit to your
organization's unique business process and workflow.

Changes: The order of the columns in the query result can now be
configured. The order of the field values in the Reports is now sorted
properly. A new "Group for State" workfow was added to control the
Responsible user list based on the state selected. A new "Previous
Responsible" parameter was added to the automatic re-assignment. A few
more fields were added to the permission control list. A bug that could
cause problems when deleting or updating too many issues at once was
fixed. The remind time can now be configured down to minutes. The user
password is now encrypted in the database.

  Wed, Oct 27th 2004 07:26

About: Centric CRM is a mature, fully featured, Java-based, Web-delivered
CRM with contacts, pipeline, accounts, and campaign management, project
management, help desk, and admin modules.

Changes: Since 2.9 Test 3, a number of fixes were made. The time zone
taglib, which was recently introduced, needed to be updated to work on
Tomcat 5. HTMLArea was updated to use an absolute URL. Popups were updated
to appear centered and on top of the page. Modules in which some columns
were not sorting properly were verified and updated. All of the PDF
reports now look the same on every supported platform. A couple of buttons
that linked to the wrong page were fixed. A couple of popup windows that
did not hide the interface were fixed.

[013] - dillo Web browser 0.8.3
  by Jorge (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcid/)
  Wed, Oct 27th 2004 07:05

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Utilities

About: Dillo Web browser is a very fast, extremely small Web browser
that's completely written in C. The source and binary are less than 400
kilobytes each. It is a graphical browser built upon GTK+, and it renders
a good subset of HTML, excluding frames, JavaScript, and JVM support.

Changes: This version comes with a parser that's able to use W3C's
semantics plus some heuristics. This improves the rendering of sites that
deliver non-valid HTML. It is expected to provide better results than the
venerable dillo-0.7.3, while keeping the useful diagnostic messages of the
bug meter. A new unified API for handling data streams inside dillo plugins
was also introduced, and every plugin was ported to it. Cookies,
redirections, and SSL were improved. (The latter is still alpha and was
disabled by default. Read the FAQ to learn how to enable it).

  by Sven Hoexter (http://freshmeat.net/users/hoaxter/)
  Wed, Oct 27th 2004 03:38

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

About: FSP is a UDP-based protocol for transferring files. It has many
benefits over FTP, mainly for running anonymous archives. It is usable on
lines with high packet loss ratio (70% WiFi), can go behind firewalls and
unoticed by port scans (because of UDP), does not overload networks when
hosting ISOs or movies, share files on modem lines without eating all of
the bandwidth, and keeps lamers away from your site (they don't know how
to get to it). This project is active continuation of the FSP code base
(abandoned for the last 5 years).

Changes: A new -b command line switch was implemented for bandwith
limiting along with -P for a PID logfile name. FSP_DIR now defaults to "/"
if it is not set. Client tracing was improved.

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: GODI provides an advanced programming environment for the Objective
Caml (O'Caml) language. From INRIA (who created O'Caml) you can get the
O'Caml compiler and runtime system, but this is usually not enough to
develop applications. You also need libraries, and there are many
developers providing them. But it is a lot of work to build and install
them. GODI is a system that simplifies this task: It is a framework that
automatically builds the O'Caml core system, and additionally installs a
growing number of pre-packaged libraries. For a number of reasons, GODI is
a source-code based system, and there are no precompiled libraries, but it
makes it very simple for everybody to compile them.

Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: InformationSpace is a causal set exploration tool. A causal set is
basically a set of simple rules that define the relationship between bits
in a space time. A common example of this is John Conway's game of life.
InformationSpace supports 3D space/time (2D of space, 1D of time).
Visualization is in 3D, with Z being time.

Changes: InformationSpaceController: InformationSpace size field , tabbing

[042] - MQ4CPP 1.2
  by Riccardo Pompeo (http://freshmeat.net/users/rpompeo68/)
  Wed, Oct 27th 2004 03:41

Communications
Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries

About: MQ4CPP, or "Message Queuing for C++", is an implementation of
enterprise messaging system, also referred to as message-oriented
middleware (MOM). MQ4CPP enables C++ application threads to communicate
with other threads locally or remotely through the exchange of messages. A
message is a request, report, and/or event that contains information needed
to coordinate communication between different applications. MQ4CPP
implements direct/indirect messaging, unsolicited messaging,
request/reply, conversation, and broadcast.

Changes: This version implemented complete clustering for Request/Reply
services. A cluster consists of multiple server instances running
simultaneously and working together to provide increased scalability and
reliability. Each server instance contains a session repository of
properties where a property represents a state of the service and a
session can be replicated on multiple server instances to protect service
state. If a server instance on which a service is running fails, another
server instance on which that service is deployed can continue application
processing.

About: Nail is a mail user agent derived from Berkeley Mail. It provides
the functionality of the System V and POSIX mailx commands. Additional
features include support for MIME, IMAP (including caching and
disconnected use), POP3, SMTP, S/MIME, international character sets,
maildir folders, message threading, powerful search methods, scoring, and
a Bayesian junk mail filter. Nail can be used as a mail batch language in
nearly the same way as it is used interactively. It can thus act as a
mailbox filter, can fetch mail from remote accounts, and can send files as
attachments.

Changes: Backslashes outside of a quoted command argument are now handled
properly. A couple of detail improvements have been made for junk mail
detection; it is necessary to create the junk mail database from scratch
again to take advantage of most of them. A 'probability' command was
introduced to print the junk mail statistics for individual words.

[051] - pdftk 1.10
  by Sid Steward (http://freshmeat.net/users/ssteward/)
  Wed, Oct 27th 2004 07:33

Text Processing

About: Pdftk is a simple, command line tool for doing everyday things
with PDF documents. Use it to merge PDF documents, split PDF pages into a
new document, decrypt input as necessary (password required), encrypt
output as desired, fill PDF forms with FDF data and/or flatten forms,
apply a background watermark, report on PDF metrics, update PDF
metadata, attach files to PDF pages or the PDF document, unpack PDF
attachments, burst a PDF document into single pages, decompress and
re-compress page streams, and repair corrupted PDF files (where
possible).

Changes: The watermarking feature was fixed so that it handles rotated
pages (input PDF or background PDF) better. The form field handling when
combining PDF pages was fixed. Pdftk now detects duplicate field names and
adds name prefixes as needed. stdin support was added for input PDF, FDF,
or Info files. A means for users to control the output PDF filenames when
using the burst feature was added. The background command-line syntax was
changed so that it is an operation instead of an output option. The subset
font name prefixes for input PDFs are now shuffled to prevent duplicates.

  by Paolo Lucente (http://freshmeat.net/users/plucente/)
  Wed, Oct 27th 2004 03:47

Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: pmacct is a set of network tools to gather IP traffic information
(bytes counter and number of packets). Aggregation of statistics is done
using simple primitives (MAC addresses, VLAN IDs, IP addresses, ports, and
IP protocol) that can be used alone or combined together to form complex
aggregation methods. It supports historical counter breakdowns, packet
sampling, and packet tagging. Data can be stored either in a memory table,
an SQL database (MySQL or PostgreSQL), or printed to stdout, and recovery
actions are available to avoid data loss during DB failures. Both the pcap
library and NetFlow are supported.

Changes: The memory plugin (IMT) was enhanced with support for batch
queries, which allows up to 4096 requests to be joined. IMT now evaluates
if it's worthwhile to spawn a new child to serve client queries. The
pmacct client now sports a '-N' switch that eases pmacct integration with
RRDtool and MRTG. Counters can now also be zeroed even if the request
applies to a group of matches. A new cache was introduced in the SQL
plugins for hash structures, dynamic chains with node allocation, reuse
and retirement, and signature comparison along with an LRU list that eases
node handling.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: polypaudio is a sound server for Linux and other Unix-like
operating systems. It is intended to be an improved drop-in replacement
for the Enlightened Sound Daemon (esound or esd). In addition to the
features esound provides, polypaudio has an extensible plugin
architecture, support for more than one sink per source, better
low-latency behavior, the ability to be embedded into other software, a
completely asynchronous C API, a simple command line interface for
reconfiguring the daemon while running, flexible and implicit sample type
conversion and resampling, and a "Zero-Copy" architecture.

Changes: TCP wrappers support. Don't load the complete sound file into
memory when playing back using pa_play_file(). Autoload API changes. Don't
load all sound files as FLOAT32. Default buffers are shorter. Client-side
latency interpolation. New user volume metrics. module-tunnel,

About: XIST is an XML-based extensible HTML generator written in Python.
XIST is also a DOM parser (built on top of SAX2) with a very simple and

Changes: A new API for iterating through XML trees has been added. It's
possible to pass iterators and generators to Frag and Element constructors
now. Parsing broken HTML is now done with the HTML parser from libxml2. The
parser now has the option to ignore illegal elements, attributes,
