Desktop Environment :: Theme
Desktop Environment :: Theme Resources :: Fonts
System :: Console Fonts

About: acoc is a regular-expression based colour formatter for programs
that display output on the command-line. It works as a wrapper around the
target program, executing it and capturing the stdout stream. Optionally,
stderr can be redirected to stdout, so that it, too, can be manipulated.
acoc then applies matching rules to patterns in the output and applies
colours to those matches.

Changes: It is now possible to use regular expressions in program specs,
such as [ps -.*(e.*f|f.*e)]. A bug was fixed where having /usr/acoc/bin in
one's $PATH could cause acoc to be invoked multiple times.

[011] - bmon 2.0.1
  by Thomas Graf (http://freshmeat.net/users/reeler/)
  Sun, Oct 31st 2004 13:08

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: bmon is a portable bandwidth monitor and rate estimator. It
supports various input methods for different architectures. Various output
modes exist, including an interactive curses interface, lightweight HTML
output, and simple ASCII output. Statistics may be distributed over a
network using multicast or unicast and collected at some point to generate
a summary of statistics for a set of nodes.

Changes: The core architecture has been changed to consist of primary and
secondary input and output modules for better portability and easier
configuration. A netlink input module has been added for Linux, supporting
traffic control statistics of qdiscs and classes. The HTML output has been
revised to be more configurable with stylesheets. A UDP based statistic
distribution protocol over unicast or multicast has been added to allow
distribution of statistics over the network. The curses interface has been
made more user friendly, allowing more information on the screen.

[012] - Clean Slate Smalltalk 0.3.1
  by water (http://freshmeat.net/users/water451/)
  Sun, Oct 31st 2004 13:55

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Slate is a prototype-based object-oriented programming language
based on Self, CLOS, and Smalltalk. Slate syntax is intended to be as
familiar as possible to a Smalltalker, rather than engaging in divergent
experiments in that respect. However, the language semantics, environment,
and run-time design are all much more powerful than in traditional
Smalltalk systems.

Changes: This release is a stable launching point for some intense
development that is forthcoming. Support for message cascading,
introspection on method signatures, and object paths and searches were
added. Collection iteration protocols were improved, and several areas
where the system was sensitive to bugs were hardened to avoid recursive
bug activation. Image saves can be performed on the fly. An
internationalization framework is also available.

  by Pedro Larroy (http://freshmeat.net/users/pedro_larroy/)
  Sun, Oct 31st 2004 19:01

Internet
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: debian-multimirror is a tool that eases and automates the creation
and maintenance of custom Debian mirrors. It uses parallel programming to
exploit redundancy between mirrors and download from several mirrors at
the same time for best performance and less mirror load. A custom
algorithm is used to select a consistent set of packages, and out of
sync or even broken mirrors can still be used. SHA1 and MD5 package
information is used to assure data integrity. It uses an XML file for
configuration of the local mirror, and writes the correspondent "Package"
files after finishing mirroring.

Changes: This release fixes speed units magnitude, fixes an unusable --cfg
option in package-tool, and cleans up dead code.

About: DisSpam is a personal solution to combat unwanted email (i.e. not
for mail servers/ISPs). It is a Perl script that accesses POP3 mailboxes
and can block/forward mail based on SpamAssassin, built-in blacklist (RBL)
checks, or configurable expression matches. It can be run through a variety
of ways, including cron, and uses a very simple yet versatile configuration
file.

Changes: A bug has been fixed that caused a crash if it failed to retrieve
a message, as in the case when the mail client downloads and deletes the
message while disspam is running. relays.osirusoft.com has been removed
from the sample config file, and sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org has been added.

[017] - DJWrap 0.9.4
  by Oscar Sundbom (http://freshmeat.net/users/MooseComrade/)
  Sun, Oct 31st 2004 13:26

Communications :: File Sharing
Documentation
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion

About: DJWrap is an effort to create an open format for combining several
MPEG audio streams into one, without losing information about the original
files and without disturbing the stream with erroneous or misplaced data.
To this is added MD5 checksumming of each individual substream as well as
an extendable data format which will, to the furthest extent, provide both
backward and forward compatibility. It also supports both DJWrap and
AlbumWrap files, and therefore replaces ALBWtool, which has been
discontinued.

Changes: This release fixes a bug in djwrap_finalize_h that caused it to
return ERR_OK when it shouldn't (just after rendering the tag). This would
make wrapping files stop at that point, and the output file would be empty.
The library has also been fixed so that the ALBW parser accepts comma (,)
as a decimal point in fields. Apparently, the original ALBW creator makes
use of the localized number formatting of the computer it is run on, which
cause incompatibilities between files from different countries. A couple of
other minor changes were also made.

options. It supports a recursive "catch-up" method, where it traverses a
comic by essentially visiting previous comics and picking out the comics.
An ever growing number of Web comics are available to satisfy your

Changes: The source was restructured. One or two bugfixes were made. Lots
of new comics were added.

works on Linux, IRIX, Solaris, HP/UX, AIX, Tru64 Unix, Windows 9x,NT,2K
(VC++, GNUWIN32, Borland, VisualAge C++), FreeBSD, and Sequent.

Changes: reparentItem(), moveItemBefore(), and moveItemAfter() in
FXFoldingList and FXTreeList were consolidated into a single new API
called moveItem(). Item addition APIs in FXTreeList, FXFoldingList, and
FXTreeListBox were harmonized and simplified. The new APIs are simpler to
use, and easier to remember due to more similar naming to similar APIs in
the other list widgets. The new fillItems() API for list widgets can be
used to populate the widget with a number of items all at once.

[027] - gentoo 0.11.52
  by Emil Brink (http://freshmeat.net/users/emilbrink/)
  Sun, Oct 31st 2004 13:48

Desktop Environment :: File Managers

About: gentoo is a file manager written in C. It uses the GTK+ toolkit,
and the two-pane concept, somewhat inspired by DOpus. gentoo strives to be
very configurable, and also to let you do all configuration from a GUI
within the program itself. Using advanced file typing and styling systems,
gentoo determines how to display files in its listings, and also how to act
on them. The package includes a set of over 120 unique handcrafted icons,
for many different types of files.

Changes: The Russian translation has been updated. Nested directory moves
are tested for and disallowed in dangerous cases. Abort logic for failing
Copy has been fixed. DirParent now works in sequences. The left arrow key
exits the text reader.

[032] - Gwydion Dylan 2.4.0
  by Andreas Bogk (http://freshmeat.net/users/andreas/)
  Sun, Oct 31st 2004 13:46

Software Development :: Compilers

About: Gwydion Dylan is a portable, optimizing Dylan compiler written in
Dylan. It was originally written by the Gwydion Group at CMU and is now
maintained by volunteers. Eventually, Gwydion Dylan is meant to become a
top-notch tool for building complicated applications. Dylan is a dynamic,
object-oriented language with four design goals: high performance, rapid
prototyping, ease of use, and seamless support for using libraries written
in C. Ports of Gwydion Dylan are available for many platforms.

Changes: This release marks the end of feature development of a version
that bootstraps using mindy. Versions 2.5 and onwards will support other
means of bootstrap, probably using cross-platform compilation of generated
C files. This release is considered to be of production stability, even
though it still lacks certain features.

[058] - OSSP cfg 0.9.4

  Sun, Oct 31st 2004 15:32

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Operating System
Text Processing

About: OSSP cfg is a ISO-C library for parsing arbitrary C/C++-style
configuration files. A configuration is sequence of directives, each
directive consists of zero or more tokens, and each token can be either a
string or again a complete sequence. This means the configuration syntax
has a recursive structure and allows you to create configurations with
arbitrarily-nested sections. The configuration syntax also provides
complex single/double/balanced quoting of tokens,
hexadecimal/octal/decimal character encodings, character escaping, C/C++
and shell-style comments, etc. The library API allows importing of a
configuration text into an Abstract Syntax Tree (AST), traversing the AST,
and optionally exporting the AST again as a configuration text.

Changes: The scanner and parser have been upgraded to be based on GNU
bison 1.875d and GNU flex 2.5.31. The build environment has been upgraded
to GNU libtool 1.5.10 and GNU shtool 2.0.1. Various compile-time warnings
under GCC 3.4/4.0 have been fixed.

About: OSSP var is a flexible, full-featured, and fast variable construct
expansion library. It supports a configurable variable construct syntax
very similar to the style found in many scripting languages (like name,
${name}, $(name), etc.) and provides both simple scalar (${name}) and
array (${name[index]}) expansion, plus optionally one or more
post-operations on the expanded value (${name:op:op...}). The supported
post-operations are length determination, case conversion, defaults,
postive and negative alternatives, sub-strings, regular expression-based
substitutions, character translations, and padding. Additionally, a
meta-construct plus arithmetic expressions for index and range
calculations allow (even nested) iterations over array variable expansions
(..[..${name[#+1]}..]..). The actual variable value lookup is performed
through a callback function, so OSSP var can expand arbitrary values.

Changes: The Unix manual pages were cleaned up and extended. Minimum C++
build support was added. Support for the DMalloc library was fixed. The
output of "var-config --libs" was fixed. The build environment was
upgraded to GNU libtool 1.5.10.

[067] - Ragel State Machine Compiler 3.7
  by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
  Sun, Oct 31st 2004 13:37

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Ragel compiles finite state machines from regular languages into
C/C++ code. It allows the programmer to embed actions at any point in a
regular language and to control non-determinism in the resulting machines.
It understands concatenation, union, kleene star, subtraction,
intersection, epsilon transitions, and various other common operators.
Through the use of labels and epsilon transitions, Ragel supports the
building of state machines using a named state and associated transition
list paradigm. Its finite state machines are closed under all of its
operators. This property allows for arbitrary regular languages to be
described. It can be used to create a parser for any language that is
regular.

Changes: Several fatal crashes were fixed. The fexec action command was
added for restarting the machine with a new buffer. The fbuf and fblen
action values were added for retrieving the current buffer. Test case
fixes were made. Objective-C code generation was added.
