[001] - AntFlow 1.0rc1
by Justin Chapweske (http://freshmeat.net/users/orasis/)
Mon, Nov 1st 2004 22:48
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Office/Business :: Scheduling
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
About: AntFlow builds upon Apache Ant to provide a new approach to
simplifying system automation that uses pipelines of hot folders chained
together to perform a given task. Using XML, it associates an automated
task such as data transfer, encryption, or XML processing with a directory
on the local system. Whenever a file is copied or written into the hot
folder, the associated task is executed and the file is moved to the next
hot folder in the pipeline for further processing.

About: ArchWay is a full-featured graphical user interface for the GNU
Arch revision control system. It includes a set of specialized tools to
make project development and tracking more effective, including an archive
browser, inventory manager, and merge interface.
Changes: Most of the parts are initially available, but with quite a lot
of missing functionality. Functional operations include commiting,
reviewing tree and revision changes, monitoring partners, searching, and
registering archives.

[003] - AspectC++ 0.9 (Stable)
by AspectC++ Developers (http://freshmeat.net/users/aspectc_devel/)
Mon, Nov 1st 2004 04:00
Software Development :: Compilers
About: The AspectC++ project realizes an AspectJ-like approach for aspect
oriented programming with C/C++. It provides an AspectC++ translator to
weave AspectC++ code with C/C++ code.
Changes: This release contains several important improvements. It does
not need the link-once code anymore, making it possible to use AC++
similarly to a standard C++ compiler. For g++ a wrapper ag++ bundles ac++
and g++. Many issues with templates have been solved. There is also
experimental support for advices on calls to templates. As usual many
bugfixes are included as well.

[004] - AudienceConnect 1.0.beta.31
by Richard Harris (http://freshmeat.net/users/goosequill/)
Mon, Nov 1st 2004 10:44
Communications :: Chat
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Message Boards
About: AudienceConnect is a revenue-generating Python CGI solution for
independent content providers. Requests for dynamic content are routed
through PayPal. Previews of that content are generated as static HTML for
search engines to harvest. Self-publishers can upload and publish
remotely, or the editorial CGI can be used to view and publish
submissions. Demo site content is plain text, but AudienceConnect can be
extended to deliver any digital content: sound files, image files, etc.
Installation is very simple; no database technologies are used. The
related modules are completely independent and require only access to
Python 1.5.2 in your cgi-bin.
Changes: This release adds AudienceTalk, RemoteEditor, and SecureEditor
calls to AC_remote.html. The README and online manual have been updated
and expanded.

About: monagent is a collection of tools which allows you to monitor
anything by writing scripts in any language you prefer. As long as you
supply the correct output format, the data will be monitored, and you will
get an email or SMS message when a certain threshold exceeds the limits
that you have defined. It consists of a Unix daemon, a monitoring viewer,
and an admin tool for setting thresholds. The viewer and admintool are
written in VB6. An Oracle Database is used for the monitoring schema, and
an Oracle Client installation is needed on every host you want to monitor.
Changes: A crash which occurred if your scripts generated output other
than the required one was fixed. A wrong time calculation in the notify
trigger was fixed. The "fetch out of sequence" message generated by the

About: p2pshaper is a Linux QoS script to ensure good latency and fairness
on a slow network connection overloaded by file sharing applications. The
primary classification is to classify traffic depending on how much a
connection has downloaded. This is a very effective generic way of
improving fairness. No connection can dominate the link. The script is
further optimized for browsing (HTTP traffic). It also includes support
for add-on classifications to netfilter: the ipp2p match and l7-filter
match. This makes it possible to classify certain types of traffic
precisely. A special queue is reserved for p2p traffic.

encrypted authentication packets for avoiding sniffers, as well as a
TCP/UDP key for remotely activating the system. pasmal comes with an
optional Web-based administrator that can handle all its
filter/firewall/port knocking/encoding keys facilities.
Changes: This version adds a portalert module, which permits you to know
via syslog who is accessing or trying to access your server's sensitive
ports. In pasmal.c some changes were made to functions
parse_config_file() and main(), and in psnif.c the processpacket() and

About: Redstone FileGarden comes with an editor and a built-in file
manager which support MIME and default file extensions. It can convert
text to PostScript and PDF, perform image conversion, and supports custom
scripting, batch processing, and custom component plugins. It can act as a
front-end for page formatting with enscript with page preview. Batch
processing of files is supported. It can format booklet style PostScript
for book binding. You can create color graphical LaTeX files with XFG and
export them to PostScript or PDF. There are some simple builtin LaTeX tags
and functions. From the menu, users can also perform sound and video
decoding and encoding. It supports Flac, OGG, and MP3 for audio, and AVI,
DivX, WM8/9, and MPEG 1/2 for video.
Changes: The LaTeX editing functions and tags are more complete. This is
useful for creating a complete article or book in LaTeX, Postscript, or
PDF format. Video encoding features have been corrected and improved. The
problems for viewing the output on Microsoft Windows systems have been
addressed. The error of updating the associated file extension image has
been debugged. A major error hanging the detail filelist pane in the file

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Compression
About: Star is a very fast, POSIX-compliant tar archiver. It saves many
files together into a single tape or disk archive, and can restore
individual files from the archive. It includes command line interfaces for
the "tar", "Sun-Tar", "cpio", "pax", and "gnutar" command-line syntax. It
includes a FIFO for speed, a pattern matcher, multi-volume support, the
ability to archive sparse files and ACLs, the ability to archive extended
file flags, automatic archive format detection, automatic byte order
recognition, automatic archive compression/decompression, remote archives,
and special features that allow star to be used for full and incremental
backups. It includes the only known platform independent "rmt" server
program.
Changes: This version adds the new options fs-name= & dumpdate= to handle
special needs for incremental dumps from file system snapshots. A new
keyword "SCHILY.volhdr.cwd" is used when the fs-name= option has been

Software Development :: Code Generators
About: In Haskell, data type declarations, Parsec parsers, and HughesPJ
pretty-printers very much resemble each other; supplying all three is
virtuous, but involves a large amount of code duplication. syntran is a

similar to a Parsec LanguageDef-using parser, annotated with the unique
information from the data type declaration and the pretty-printer which
would normally not be found in a parser. It separates this information out

arbitrarily complex. An octree mesh is used. Mesh generation is entirely
automatic. The code is adaptive: the local resolution is automatically
and continuously adapted to the computed solution.

[127] - The Lit Window Library 0.3.1
by hajokirchhoff (http://freshmeat.net/users/hajokirchhoff/)
Mon, Nov 1st 2004 06:04
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: User Interfaces
About: The Lit Window Library is a C++ library which provides
"reflections" (extended runtime type information), adds "rules" to the
"methods, properties, events" GUI coding paradigm, and contains a
collection of frequent UI patterns. The goal of this library is to speed
up GUI coding by a factor of 10. It does so by greatly reducing the amount
of source code necessary to implement common, day-to-day user interface
requirements. This is not just another "better widgets" library. The
library introduces two new, different concepts to UI coding: a data
abstraction layer (reflections) and rule-based programming.
Changes: The Lit Window Library is now available in two packages. lwall
contains the full library, including support for wxWidgets and the RapidUI
code. lwbase contains only the basic functionality and is of interest for
programmers who are not using wxWidgets. Specifically, lwbase contains the
data abstraction layer (reflections or data adapters), a simple constraints
solver, and a few maintenance functions. The base package was created to
gauge the interest of the "boost library" community in the data
adapters/reflections.
