Tue, Nov 9th 2004 00:00
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: Addendat is a blogging program that can accept updates from either
a CGI interface or a shell interface. Additions are stored as HTML, so you
can edit both entries and design in any ordinary text editor. It is
configured using a simple HTML-like config file format and supports
multiple blogs, even on the same page. It does not require Java or
JavaScript and can publicize additions on a central hub, making it easy
for Web users to find recently-updated blogs. It supports comments and
archiving, can post entries to LiveJournal, and features configurable
comment spam countermeasures.
Changes: A comment spam countermeasure was added, several installer bugs
were fixed, and a bug that caused link prefixes to not be properly applied
was fixed. The documentation was improved somewhat and the example
configuration files are now organized better.

[029] - HTTP client request class 2004.11.08
by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
Tue, Nov 9th 2004 08:47
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: HTTP client request class is a PHP class to make HTTP protocol
requests. It can submit requests via a proxy server. It can establish
secure connections (HTTPS) via a non-SSL proxy server, or using PHP with
OpenSSL support, or using the Curl library with optional SSL client
certificates support. It also supports POST requests with a user-defined
array of form values, file uploading, or posting user-defined request
bodies. It retrieves the HTTP response headers and body data separately.
It handles HTTP basic authentication, session and persistent cookies, and
supports automatic request redirection handling.
Changes: Support for sending custom request body data was added when using
other methods besides POST. The SetCookie function was added to preset
cookie values. The port number is now also considered when forming the
Host request header. The error messages were made clearer when the class
fails to access files for uploading. Debug output for client request was
added when using the curl library. An option was added to force multipart
form post even when no file fields are being submitted. Example code was

[032] - KKBSwitch 1.4.2
by Leonid Zeitlin (http://freshmeat.net/users/lz/)
Tue, Nov 9th 2004 06:33
Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
About: KKBSwitch is a keyboard layout indicator for KDE 2 and 3. It is
useful when you have configured the XKeyboard extension of your X Server
to have more than one keyboard group, for example US/ASCII and Russian. It
displays an icon in the system tray that indicates which layout is
currently active. Note that it does not help you configure XKeyboard, it
merely serves as the indicator of the current group. You still have to
configure XKeyboard by editing the XF86Config file. You can switch
keyboard groups by clicking the icon or selecting the desired group from
the icon's menu. Icons corresponding to different groups are configurable
(chosen from the country flag pixmaps that ship with KDE). There is also a
"Toggle mode" (toggles between the two most recently used layouts). The
keyboard layout can be switched for each window separately,
per-application (as in Windows) or globally.
Changes: This maintenance release adds the Hebrew translation contributed
previously, as well as a manpage to comply with Debian standards.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Editors
About: KPlaylistCreator is a jukebox for KDE. It scans for MP3 and Ogg
Vorbis files, located in various directories, creates a unique tree view
with genre, artist, album, and song title information, features a user
rates mechanism, a user playlist manager, and a wizard playlist creator,
edits tags for both MP3 (ID3 v2) and Ogg Vorbis files, checks directories
for new and missing files automatically, sends playlists to a directory,
XMMS, or to K3B, displays and sets the album art of MP3 files, creates
playlists from a virtual library, and includes popup windows to indicate
change of song.
Changes: A random button was added in the creator interface. TagLib 1.3 is
now used instead of ID3Lib for the MP3 image art. A smart sort feature was
added to the playlist to sort the playlist by Genre, Artist, Album, or
track. The random playlists generation was reworked. Automatic playlists
were added. These lists keep trak of the last listened, most listened,
prefered songs, and songs recently added. A new criterion for playlist
generation was added: last listened date. The date of library entry for a
song was added. A tool button was added in the playlist manager to allow
the user to add a playlist in his own list easily.

format, and provides a number of user operations, such as zooming,
filtering, spectral analysis, polarisation analysis, time-frequency
representation, Hilbert transform, and singular value decomposition.
Changes: SVDS now features the ability to optionally integrate the signal
before polarization analysis. In the STK time-frequency function there is
now a choice of four taper functions: Hanning, Hamming, Blackman, or
Hanning generalized (the default), and the ability to smooth or view the
spectra. A new GMT_plot module was added for plotting results directly in
PostScript. The MECA program was added for plotting focal mechanisms in
text mode. A new menu was implemented for exporting results to ASCII
files.

System :: Operating System
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
About: Source Mage GNU/Linux is a source-based Linux distribution based on
a magical metaphor of "casting" and "dispelling" programs, which are
referred to as "spells". In multi-tasking style, it downloads the sources
in the background while compiling in the foreground. Source Mage's
"sorcery" offers advanced package management, but retains the choices,
options, and control not offered by many other distributions.
Changes: Cleanup of init.d,xinet.d, and service code, code cleanup and
optimization, more documentation, and massive bugfixes.

[067] - Spammer 0.3.3 (Development)
by Nils Durner (http://freshmeat.net/users/ndurner/)
Tue, Nov 9th 2004 13:59
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: Spammer is an anti-spam mail filter for sendmail. It uses libmilter
to communicate with sendmail. Spammer checks client IP addresses as well as
all IP addresses (and everything that looks like an IP address) in Received
headers against a DNSBL database.
Changes: This release fixes the recognition of private class B networks
and changes the default DNSBL to Spamcop (moderate blacklist without
dialup ranges), as the Osirusoft DNSBL doesn't work anymore.

[068] - spamresponder 0.41
by Stephan Schmieder (http://freshmeat.net/users/ssc_/)
Tue, Nov 9th 2004 14:11
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet
About: Spamresponder is a very simple and radical spam filter. It will go
through all mail messages in /var/mail/$USER, looking for specific
"trusted" strings in the header and body parts of the mail. It will delete
and send an automatic reply to messages which have no "trusted" strings
inside them. Those replies will include one of the "trusted" strings, so
the recipient just needs to reply to this confirmation message. The
MailFrom-address of an email containing a trusted string becomes a trusted
string itself.
Changes: A FAQ has been added to this release. The automatic white-listed
email addresses are now updated at runtime.

[070] - stableUpdate 1.0.3
by Audrius Mekauskas (http://freshmeat.net/users/Audrius_Meskauskas/)
Tue, Nov 9th 2004 07:56
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
About: stableUpdate is an autoupdate tool for creating, detecting,
downloading, installing, and removing service packs for JAR-based Java
applications. Generated updates are transferred in archives, upgrading
between subsequent versions. An update contains changed single files and
changed parts of JAR and ZIP files. It supports mirrors, release notes,
and uninstallation of updates.
Changes: This version was extended according to the requests made through
the feedback Web form. Most people requested an easier mechanism for
creating new updates. This version generates or extends the main update
XML file. Others requested more security. The size and checksum of each
update are now stored in the main XML file and can be verified after
download. Thus, an unexpected change of the update file content (on the
server side or during transmission) will prevent subsequent installation.

[072] - Streamlined Blackhole List Server 0.7.0
by Nuclear Elephant (http://freshmeat.net/users/jzdziarski/)
Tue, Nov 9th 2004 19:09
Communications
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
About: The Streamlined Blackhole List Server is a real-time,
machine-automated blackhole server designed to blacklist network addresses
which exceed a threshold of network spread, that is, abuse from an address
which has been reported by a number of participating networks (as opposed
to how most other blacklists function, based on total number of reports).
It blacklists addresses until they have cleared a minimum duration (an
hour by default) without any additional reports. It is designed to
function via automated machine-learning spam filters, such as Bayesian
filters. Each participating network is granted write authentication, to
prevent abuse. A client tool is also provided.

[073] - tenshi 0.3.2
by Rob Holland (http://freshmeat.net/users/tiggerrob/)
Tue, Nov 9th 2004 08:25
System :: Monitoring
About: tenshi (formerly wasabi) is a log monitoring program designed to
watch a log file for lines matching user defined regular expressions and
report on the matches. The regular expressions are assigned to queues that
have an alert interval and a list of mail recipients. Queues can be set to
send a notification as soon as there is a log line assigned to them, or to
send periodic reports. Additionally, uninteresting fields in the log lines
(such as PID numbers) can be masked with the standard regular expression
grouping operators ( ). This allows cleaner and more readable reports. All
reports are separated by hostname and all messages are condensed when
possible.
Changes: The X-tenshi-version, X-tenshi-hostname, and
X-tenshi-report-start headers were added. The orphan tail process problem
was fixed, since the filehandle is now closed on shutdown. The bug in cron
specs handling was fixed. LC_TIME locale is internally set to "C" now for a
compliant Date header. Mail address specification allows local part only.
Foreground mode was added.

[077] - xlSQL Y7
by Jim Caprioli (http://freshmeat.net/users/jimcp/)
Tue, Nov 9th 2004 00:02
Database
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: xlSQL is a JDBC Driver for Excel, CSV, and other document data
sources. Documents can be read and written with SQL as if they were tables
in a database. In the case of Excel, xlSQL maps a directory with Excel
files to a database, workbooks to schemas, and sheets to tables. These
tables can be queried with the full SELECT syntax of either the HSQLDB,
MySQL, or McKoi SQL dialect. Native xlSQL is a rich subset of SQL for
creating, altering, and populating documents.
Changes: This release featured an "xldba" native DBA interface, the
ability to export filesystem data to Excel with dir2xls, and utilities to
export Excel to XML or SQL formats (HSQLDB or MySQL). A zero-admin MySQL
server that runs out of the Zip file without requiring installation was
included.

design. /away now longer prints "." instead of ":" if no away reason is
given. The /ko message was fixed. /invisible no longer displays the wrong
private messages. Help text was added for /getstatus. /msg and /s should
now print the system time if printalwaystime is true. A blank was added to
the /uptime message. /topic now prints the topic in the user's color. Some
typos were fixed.
