Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3
About: abcde is a frontend to cdparanoia, wget, cd-discid, id3, and your
favorite OggVorbis/MP3/Flac/OggSpeex/MPC(Musepak+) encoder (Oggenc is the
default). It grabs an entire CD and converts each track to
OggVorbis/MP3/Flac/OggSpeex/MPC(Musepak+), then comments or ID3-tags each
file, all with one command. It supports multiple output in a single CD
read, OneTrack out of a CD, resume operation, multiple CD concatenation,
volume normalization, gapless encoding (with LAME), parallelization, SMP,
HTTP proxies, customizable filename organization and munging, playlist
generation, remote distributed encoding via distmp3, and more.
Changes: This release features OneTrack and CDConcatenate modes,
MPP/MP+(Musepack) format encoding, and now excludes DATA tracks from the
rip. There are plenty of bugfixes and other improvements.

finds when given randomly chosen tiles are often surprising, and
frequently resemble floral decorations.
Changes: This version adds the ability to save diagrams as a PNG file. It
adds parameters for color, line thickness, and size of the diagram. Tiles
are now rendered using Bezier curves.

[067] - sysstat 5.1.2
by Sébastien Godard (http://freshmeat.net/users/godard/)
Wed, Nov 10th 2004 13:10
System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: The sysstat package contains the sar, mpstat, and iostat commands
for Linux. The sar command collects and reports system activity
information. This information can also be saved in a system activity file
for future inspection. The iostat command reports CPU statistics and I/O
statistics for tty devices and disks. The statistics reported by sar
concern I/O transfer rates, paging activity, process-related activites,
interrupts, network activity, memory and swap space utilization, CPU
utilization, kernel activities, and TTY statistics, among others. Both UP
and SMP machines are fully supported.
Changes: sar -d also uses /proc/partitions to get its data. The option -m
tells iostat to display statistics in megabytes per second instead of
blocks per second. History (number of days to keep log files) is
configurable in /etc/sysconfig/sysstat. Vixie cron is used to launch sadc
when possible.

[069] - ThreadGuru 0.0.1
by paulcannon (http://freshmeat.net/users/paulcannon/)
Wed, Nov 10th 2004 14:13
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: ThreadGuru adds missing threading information to incoming email
that doesn't have it. It accomplishes this by looking through all the
email already in a given mailbox and comparing quoted text, citations,
subjects, etc. It works as a stdin-to-stdout filter, and is probably best
run via procmail or a similar tool.
Changes: ThreadGuru currently works, but the rules, scores, and heuristics
aren't perfectly tuned yet. Depending on the type of email you get,
accuracy with this version should range from 50%-90%. Even when it is
wrong, you usually aren't any more inconvenienced than when email has no
threading info at all, especially if your mail client lets you fix and
detach threads (like Mutt). Coming versions should address known issues
and dramatically increase accuracy.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Scientific/Engineering
About: VisIt is an interactive parallel visualization and graphical
analysis tool for viewing scientific data. Users can quickly generate
visualizations from their data, animate them through time, manipulate
them, and save the resulting images for presentations. VisIt contains a
rich set of visualization features so that you can view your data in a
variety of ways. It can be used to visualize scalar and vector fields
defined on two- and three-dimensional (2D and 3D) structured and
unstructured meshes. It was designed to interactively handle very large
data set sizes in the terascale range, and works well down to small data
sets in the kilobyte range.

plots with mesh nodes, cells, or scalar and vector fields. The Expressions
window has been rewritten from scratch for vastly increased usability.
Translucent geometry is supported when using parallel rendering. Shadows
can be enabled when rendering images for saving or when using parallel
rendering. Sixty other enhancements and bugfixes are also included.
