About: ADODB is a set of advanced PHP database abstraction classes. It
supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, Interbase/Firebird, Informix, Sybase SQL
Anywhere, Oracle, MS SQL 7 and 2000, SAP DB, Sybase, DB2, FrontBase,
Foxpro, Access, Netezza, LDAP, ODBTP, ADO, and generic ODBC. A metatype
system is built in, making it possible to figure out that types such as
CHAR, TEXT, and STRING are equivalent in different databases. It also
features portable database creation, database-backed session support (with
encryption), SQL performance monitoring, and database health checks.
Changes: Extensive data dictionary changes. The BlobDecode API for
PostgreSQL has changed. This might continue to change in the next release.
Support for the charSet feature in oci8's P/N/Connect(). Some bugfixes, and
compatibility changes for PHP5.

[005] - Attachment Ripper and Displacement System 1.42 (Development)
by Jens Låås (http://freshmeat.net/users/khaldun/)
Thu, Nov 11th 2004 02:39
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: Attachment Ripper and Displacement System (aradis) is a filter that
removes attachments from email. The removed attachment is sent to a
specified resource for storage. The attachment is replaced with a notice
of where the removed attachment may be found. The filter can also rename
filenames for security. It uses GMime for MIME handling.
Changes: This version was updated against GMime 2.1.9. The usefork option
was removed as it could do more harm than good. The entire config file is
now read regardless of size. UTF8 filename handling was improved. All
attachments should now be inspected regardless of their depth in a
message. Preliminary support for Debian packages was added.

[007] - Bash.Diff 1.11
by William Park (http://freshmeat.net/users/opengeometry/)
Thu, Nov 11th 2004 00:12
Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Shells
About: Bash.Diff is a patch against Bash that incorporates many useful
features from Awk, Python, Zsh, Ksh, and others. In the main core, it adds
the following: new brace expansion {a..b}, new parameter expansion
${var|...}, new command substitution $(=...), extended for, while, and
until loops, extended case statement, new try-block with integer
exception, and new here document <<+. As builtin commands, it adds the
following: sscanf(3), <string.h>, and <ctype.h> wrappers, a variety of
array and regex(3) operations, GDBM, SQLite, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
database interfaces, an HTML template engine (BASP), stack/queue
operations on positional parameters and arrays, Expat XML parser
interface, simple x-y character plot, DOS line support, and simple Awk
emulation.
Changes: This release added an array version of 'cat' and string
multipliers in ${var|*n}. 'array -[pq]' now only extracts string inside
delimiters and does not include delimiters in output.

[008] - bogofilter 0.93.1 (Current)
by Matthias Andree (http://freshmeat.net/users/mandree/)
Thu, Nov 11th 2004 03:47
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Text Processing :: Filters
About: Bogofilter is a Bayesian spam filter. In its normal mode of
operation, it takes an email message or other text on standard input, does
a statistical check against lists of "good" and "bad" words, and returns a
status code indicating whether or not the message is spam. Bogofilter is
designed with fast algorithms (including Berkeley DB system), coded
directly in C, and tuned for speed, so it can be used for production by
sites that process a lot of mail.
Changes: The Berkeley DB mode now uses transactions for robustness with
automatic crash detection and recovery, has extended documentation
(README.db), and supports Berkeley DB 4.3. QDBM mode now uses B+trees for
speed. A converter is included. The default mode is now ternary
(Ham/Spam/Unsure) rather than the previous binary mode (Yes/No). The
release documentation was consolidated into the NEWS and RELEASE.NOTES
documents. Bogotune's -D mode was repaired and a MIME parser bug was
fixed.

[009] - C++ Elliptic Curve Cryptography library 0.8.0 (Development)
by Carlo Wood (http://freshmeat.net/users/aleric/)
Thu, Nov 11th 2004 00:12
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Libecc is a C++ elliptic curve cryptography library that supports
fixed-size keys for maximum speed. The goal of this project is to become
the first free Open Source library providing the means to generate safe
elliptic curves, and to provide an important source of information for
anyone with general interest in ECC.
Changes: The brute force point counting data (of elliptic curves up to
GF(2^10)) is presented and partly analysed. A start has been made in
determining the relationship between the curve parameter 'a' and the
structure of the elliptic curves. An in-depth theory page about the
structure of Abelian groups was added. This release contains new code that
allows one to determine the structure of the Abelian group from the count
of points and their order as well as code that determines the normal of
the hyperplane in the 'a-space' that represents curves with constant
cardinality.

can be run automatically from cron and configured with various options.
Changes: This release adds two more false positives to checkhardware, as
well as a disclaimer. "Disk Usage by Content" is fixed for a specific
directory in checkdisk. A threshold parameter has been added to checksyn
for the amount of times an IP is found to be SYN flooding until they get
blocked. There is some code cleanup.

[014] - Conary 0.11.1
by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Thu, Nov 11th 2004 19:06
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather then having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: This version now enforces dependencies when erasing packages.
This requires a database conversion.

About: zsync is a client-side implementation of the rsync algorithm. It
allows updating of files from a remote Web server without requiring a
full download or a special remote server application. It uses a metafile,
which must be created on the server, to determine which parts of a file
the user already has; it then downloads the remaining parts via HTTP. No
special server or Web server module is needed. It can also look inside
gzip files, allowing efficient update transfers even when files are
compressed.
