[001] - Bugzero 3.9.5
by Samuel Chen (http://freshmeat.net/users/billhen/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 21:57
Communications :: Email
Database :: Front-Ends
Information Management
About: Bugzero is a Web-based bug tracking, defect tracking, issue
tracking, and change management system used in a distributed team
environment to track software bugs, hardware defects, test cases, or any
other issues. It can also be used equally well as a helpdesk customer
support, trouble ticketing, or email management system to collect and
manage customer feedbacks, incidents, requests, and issues. It is easy to
use, but still flexible and adaptive, and can be configured to fit to your
organization's unique business process and workflow.
Changes: A potential duplicate primary key problem that could occur if one
deleted the project and then recreated it immediately was fixed. Deleting a
project or a user now requires double confirmation. Some other minor
improvements were made.

Communications :: Conferencing
About: Chat Everywhere is a simple and powerful chat client/server system
for Web pages. It supports channel administration, IRC-like commands,
connection filtering, extensive logging, and much more. The client works
in any Web browser that can run Java applets. The server is written in
POSIX-compliant C and runs on any kind of Unix.
Changes: After 5 years of development, Chat Everywhere has reached the
stability and functionality criteria for the 1.0.0 milestone. The server
has been enhanced for footprint and stability, client reporting, and
password authentication.

[003] - ClaSS 0.4.1
by stj (http://freshmeat.net/users/stjohnson/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 13:05
Education
About: ClaSS (ClaSS Student System) is a complete school-wide student
tracking, reporting, and information system. It is integrated with a
curriculum content management and publishing application and extends the
reach of traditional school information management systems by using the
latest in Web-application methodologies. It aims to be the ubiquitous
class-room information assistant for schools.
Changes: The MarkBook and InfoBook are ready to use, and the Admin offers
enough tools to support a working school installation. After several
months of in-service testing, this is now considered a stable release. It
includes a new assessment feature for tracking of student performance
across subjects, improved permissions in the markbook, and several
bugfixes.

[004] - Common Lisp SQL 3.1.1
by Rene van Bevern (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvb/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 06:34
Database :: API
About: CLSQL is an SQL database interface for Common Lisp. It provides
object-oriented and functional access methods to the underlying database,
which can be one of MySQL, ODBC, PostgreSQL, or SQLite. It uses the
Unified Foreign Function Interface (UFFI) and thus supports the CMU Common
Lisp, Steel Bank Common Lisp, and Allegro Common Lisp implementations.
Changes: This version ignores dropped columns and uses the sb-md5 package
in an sbcl environment.

[005] - cpphs 0.8
by Malcolm Wallace (http://freshmeat.net/users/MalcolmWallace/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 06:05
Software Development :: Pre-processors
About: cpphs is a more liberal re-implementation of cpp, the C
pre-processor, in Haskell. The C pre-processor is widely used in Haskell
source code, but a true cpp is often unavailable on some systems (such as
native Windows), and the common cpp provided by the gcc 3.x series has
become more strictly tied to the C language, in subtle ways that are
incompatible with Haskell's syntax. This includes problems with, for
instance, string gaps, and prime characters in identifiers. This project
provides a robust alternative to cpp that is more compatible with Haskell
and can be distributed with compilers.
Changes: This release adds the "--text" option to cpphs, allowing it to be
used on any free-form text file, so it is no longer tied to the more strict
lexical formatting of C or Haskell source code. This means, for instance,
that macros are expanded even if they seem to occur inside a comment
block, or inside a string.

[006] - Cutlass 0.0.3
by Todd MacDermid (http://freshmeat.net/users/tmacd/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 21:54
Communications :: Chat
Communications :: File Sharing
Communications :: Internet Phone
About: Cutlass is a cross-platform system for secure peer to peer
communication, oriented towards small groups. It provides IM and file
transfer. A major design goal is to be easy to use, even by non-security
conscious users.
Changes: This is a change to the libcutlass API, as well as several large
bugfixes and enhancements to the transport code. The crypto is now
actually functional as opposed to cosmetic.

[008] - Dnsmasq 2.17
by Simon Kelley (http://freshmeat.net/users/simonkelley/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 13:01
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
About: Dnsmasq is a lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP
server. It is designed to provide DNS and (optionally) DHCP to a small
network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the
global DNS. The DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows
machines with DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names
configured either in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq
supports static and dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP for network booting of
diskless machines.
Changes: This release fixes a crash bug in 2.16, so it's worth upgrading
from that version (though the crash only happened in fairly unusual
circumstances). It also fixes widespread build problems with the previous
version, which stemmed from a clash between a symbol in dnsmasq and one in
the C library. There are some new DHCP configuration options. There is a
new mailing list.

[022] - HAproxy 1.1.29
by wtarreau (http://freshmeat.net/users/wtarreau/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 17:58
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking
About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP/HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, automatic failover,
header insertion, deletion, modification on the fly, advanced logging
contents to help trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and
a few other features. It uses its own state machine to achieve up to ten
thousands hits per second on modern hardware, even with thousands
simultaneous connections. It currently lacks SSL and keep-alive, both of
which are planned.
Changes: This release adds an option to log arbitrary request and response
headers. Now unprintable characters are logged encoded to prevent exploits
or log-escape attacks. A bug where a TCP connection could be logged twice
if the 'logasap' option was set without 'tcplog'. Now the Solaris build
does not need -DSOLARIS anymore. RPM sources and binaries are now provided
for RHEL3/i386. Several contribution patches have been published on the
home page.

[026] - karma mvc java framework 0.5
by Oliver Kiessler (http://freshmeat.net/users/okiess/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 18:34
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: karma is a lightweight J2EE application framework based on the
well-known Model View Controller (MVC) pattern. Whereas most other MVC
frameworks heavily depend on a Web context, karma is meant to be reusable
in different J2EE technologies like servlets, EJB, or Web services.
Starting out with a servlet-based default implementation, karma itself
consists of components which are designed in the fashion of inversion of
control components. With this in mind, the servlet, EJB, or Web service
controller (or even pojo) is only a container for the karma components
which are themselves exchangeable through your own implementations.
Changes: For the first time, it includes all major features planned: less
XML description through naming conventions, URL to action mapping,
Interceptor and filter support, JSP 2.0 support (no custom taglibs),
automatic bean dependency injection in your actions (new), Spring support
(new), Internationalization (new), automatic and custom validation (new),
easy to test (mock objects are provided), actions can be reused in the EJB
karma framework container without modification, and a change from the GPL
to BSD license.

Pentium M or Athlon 64) on Linux 2.6 kernels. It is similar in look and
functionality to the GNOME cpufreq applet.
Changes: This release uses libcpufreq and thus supports both /sys and
/proc interfaces to kernel cpufreq. The display is only updated if the
frequency actually changes, which removes random "flickering" of the icon.

About: leads4web is a very customizable, multilingual, Web-based Customer
Relationship Management solution. It supports different users and roles,
comes with email support, customer/companies management, todos, calendar,
CR, and Projects Management.
Changes: This is a complete rewrite of leads4web/3. It is based on the
easy framework (MVC) to be more readable, flexible, and extendable. As
there have not been any releases in the last few months, this release is
provided although it has only one real focus right now: contact
management. Once this feature is complete, there will be an email module,

[035] - MetaDot Apache Log Parser 2.0
by Nick Powers (http://freshmeat.net/users/Encryption/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 18:34
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: MetaDot Apache Log Parser parses Apache access_log files for
MetaDot entries, and turns the id structure into something that can be
more easily parsed and interpeted by graphing software.
Changes: This version determines the names of the pages by looking them up
in the MetDot database. This is a big feature enhancement, because it means
that you do not have to modify the code when you make changes or add new
pages to your MetaDot Portal. You must edit the script for program
locations and metadot database-specific information, and then no further
modifications should be required.

[043] - parapin 1.0.0-beta1
by Al (http://freshmeat.net/users/ahooton/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 00:18
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Hardware
About: parapin makes it easy to write C code under Linux that controls
individual pins on a PC parallel port. This kind of control is very useful
for electronics projects that use the PC's parallel port as a generic
digital I/O interface. Parapin goes to great lengths to insulate the
programmer from the somewhat complex parallel port programming interface
provided by the PC hardware, and comes as a user-space C library, or
linked as part of a Linux kernel module.
Changes: This version features a new device driver wrapper
"parapindriver" that provides access to the kparapin kernel module from
userspace programs. This allows them to benefit from filesystem-based
access control (it is still not possible to get notification of parallel
port interrupts delivered back up to userspace). This version also
features support to build on 2.6 kernel trees as well as 2.2/2.4 kernel
trees, and a Makefile cleanup.

[044] - PHP GEN 1.1
by Sebastián E. Brocher (http://freshmeat.net/users/sbrocher/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 00:19
Database
Database :: Front-Ends
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: PHP GEN reads the list of tables in a database, lets you select
one, then reads the structure of it, suggests a basic (modifiable)
configuration, and generates good-style and easily maintainable PHP code
capable of listing, searching, adding, editing, detailing, and deleting
records. Both the generated code and the engine itself use Pear::DB for
the database-abstraction layer and Smarty for the presentation/interface
layer. Master/detail (foreign keys) are supported.
Changes: This release allows users to Save/Recover table configurations,
features file upload support, includes better foreign keys support, adds
URL, password, multiple foreign keys, and file field types, displays data
filtering, improves error handling and search select fields, improves the
generated scripts user interface, includes some bugfixes, and the new

About: Relffhus is a playlist for Noatun that handles random play order
better. It uses weighting factors for each song in the list to make sure
that the most recently played songs are least likely to be played next.
Changes: Weight exponentiation has been implemented. Exponentiated weights
allows for a song's weight to non-linearly map to a probability, which
means that the higher the weight exponent the much more likely a higher
weighted song will be picked compared to a lower weighted song. Also, XML
playlist files are now supported and are the default format used.

[064] - Usermin 1.100
by Jamie Cameron (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcameron/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 21:59
System :: Systems Administration
About: Usermin is a Web interface that can be used by any user on a UNIX
system to easily perform tasks like reading mail, setting up SSH, or
configuring mail forwarding. It can be thought of as a simplified version
of Webmin designed for use by normal users rather than system
administrators.
Changes: A DHTML-based HTML editor has been incorporated into the Read
Mail module, which works far better than the previous Java-based editor.
Support for selecting specific MySQL and PostgreSQL tables to back up has
been added. An option has been added to the Change Password for updating
the user's MySQL password at the same time as the Unix password. Support
has been added for Solaris 10, SuSE 9.2, Mandrake 10.1, FreeBSD 5.3, and
several Darwin versions.

[065] - Vector Visuals 2004.11.14
by Brandon Franklin (http://freshmeat.net/users/ccerberus/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 00:58
Multimedia :: Graphics
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Vector Visuals provides an easy-to-use, object-based API for
creating and manipulating Java2D-rendered shapes and images. It features
object embedding, dynamic connectors, and multithreaded task support.
Changes: This release makes a quantum leap in terms of the sophistication
of the AnimationTask system. An event-based callback system has been added
that allows code to be notified when tasks start and finish, and a "cycle
length" concept has been implemented, allowing excessive CPU use to be
curbed during animations.

XSLT, and Velocity, without changing the logic producing the data. It
includes a powerful expression language for navigating its object stack,
as well as a small but complete tag library. It supports
internationalization, redirection, error handling, validation, command
driven actions, chaining actions, and type conversions.
Changes: This release includes a few bugfixes for the URL tag, a new base
class to make type conversion easier, and better documentation. It also

[069] - Wi.Ser Beta 0.5.6
by dvdw (http://freshmeat.net/users/dvdw/)
Sun, Nov 14th 2004 12:55
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Wi.Ser is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables an
application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server Swing
app, or as a Web app without any change. It includes a mixed deployment
mode, which supports one server to serve Swing clients and Web clients at
the same time. The framework uses XML to define an application's GUI. It
provides a common widget-based, object-oriented programming interface for
Web and Swing GUIs, which prevents the developer from struggling with HTML
and HTTP or with the internals of Swing. For Swing client/server
applications the client/server split as well as the client/server
communication is handled transparently by the framework. The project
includes a GUI builder that is based on the framework's functionality
(screenshot, deployed as a Web/HTML application).
Changes: This release implements new filler and hidden tags. The behaviour
of the MDI interface has been corrected, and the GUI builder has a full
application preview function that enhances the support for application
prototyping.
