[002] - autopano-sift 2.1
by Sebastian Nowozin (http://freshmeat.net/users/nowozin/)
Tue, Nov 16th 2004 11:34
Multimedia :: Graphics
Scientific/Engineering :: Image Recognition
About: Autopano-SIFT is a helper program for panorama image generation. It
automatically generates control point information for a number of image
files for use with the hugin panorama generation software. To do this, it
utilizes the SIFT (Scale-Invariant Feature Transform) algorithm, a
sophisticated image feature matching algorithm.
Changes: In both the Windows and Gtk# GUIs, bugs have been fixed. A bug in
the underlying SIFT descriptor construction has been fixed, leading to a 10
percent improvement in the number of correct matches. The GUIs now take
command line parameters to better integrate into future versions of hugin.

Tue, Nov 16th 2004 06:16
System :: Systems Administration
About: Batch Sync Report (BSR) is a Perl script that creates reports of
the operation of the Batch Sync application from Siebel CRM, version 7.
Based on a log file of database extraction, it creates reports in HTML
that contain full information about extraction status. Reports can contain
information for more than one server. For each server, the report contains
detailed information about each attempted user database extraction, the
time that the extraction began and finished, and the Concurrent Sessions
parameter from the .ini file.
Changes: Support for UNIX was added. The ability to read all log files and
generate a report from them has been included. Better formatting was
implemented for the reports. More than one report is possible for each
server in the configuration file.

[010] - Conary 0.11.3
by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Tue, Nov 16th 2004 21:30
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: This version adds lots of performance improvements in new code.
It adds a --test option for update and erase that avoids making changes
to the filesystem. It fixes bugs in dependency checking on erase. It adds
a database version and implements an appropriate error that tells you
where to go to get information on updates that have database
incompatibilities.

[035] - Linux Replicated High Availability Manager 0.7.2
by Simon Edwards (http://freshmeat.net/users/bongo44/)
Tue, Nov 16th 2004 11:31
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: The Linux Replicated High Availability Manager allows the creation
of clusters for providing high availability through data replication for
one or more applications. Currently, clusters are limited to two nodes,
but multiple applications can be hosted and failed-over between the nodes.
The software uses a modified "enbd / raidtools" subsystem, and thus does
not require shared media (such as twin-tailed SCSI storage).
Changes: This release introduces many fixes to improve functionality when
running multiple applications in the cluster. Further manual pages have
been added, along with a utility to integrate the cluster formation into
the Run Control sequence when the machines in the cluster boot.

[038] - moodss 19.3
by Jean-Luc Fontaine (http://freshmeat.net/users/jfontain/)
Tue, Nov 16th 2004 01:19
Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Scientific/Engineering
About: Moodss is a modular monitoring application, which supports
operating systems (Linux, UNIX, Windows, etc.), databases (MySQL, Oracle,
PostgreSQL, DB2, ODBC, etc.), networking (SNMP, Apache, etc.), and any
device or process for which a module can be developed (in Tcl, Python,
Perl, Java, and C). An intuitive GUI with full drag'n'drop support allows
the construction of dashboards with graphs, pie charts, etc., while the
thresholds functionality includes warning by emails and user defined
scripts. Any part of the visible data can be archived in an SQL database
by both the GUI and the companion daemon, so that complete history over
time can be made available from Web pages, common spreadsheet software,
etc.
Changes: A new psbyname module that is analogous to the ps module but with
data aggregated by process name was added. The moomps daemon now reports
any problems before going into the background. The ps module module now
benefits from a non-blocking threaded implementation. Minor improvements
and bugfixes were made.

by Al (http://freshmeat.net/users/ahooton/)
Tue, Nov 16th 2004 19:03
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Hardware
About: parapin makes it easy to write C code under Linux that controls
individual pins on a PC parallel port. This kind of control is very useful
for electronics projects that use the PC's parallel port as a generic
digital I/O interface. Parapin goes to great lengths to insulate the
programmer from the somewhat complex parallel port programming interface
provided by the PC hardware, and comes as a user-space C library, or
linked as part of a Linux kernel module.
Changes: This version features bugfixes for missing kernel module
exports, a fix for an executable bit incorrectly set on libs, a fix for a
typo in the comment for change_pin(), and an update to the pointer to the
Rubini/Corbet book in the documentation.

by Paolo Lucente (http://freshmeat.net/users/plucente/)
Tue, Nov 16th 2004 03:17
Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: pmacct is a set of network tools to gather IP traffic information
(bytes counter and number of packets). Aggregation of statistics is done
using simple primitives (MAC addresses, VLAN IDs, IP addresses, ports, and
IP protocol) that can be used alone or combined together to form complex
aggregation methods. It supports historical counter breakdowns, packet
sampling, and packet tagging. Data can be stored either in a memory table,
an SQL database (MySQL or PostgreSQL), or printed to stdout, and recovery
actions are available to avoid data loss during DB failures. Both the pcap
library and NetFlow are supported.
Changes: New 'src_as' and 'dst_as' aggregation primitives were added to
allow accounting based on Autonomous System numbers. Sum aggregation
methods were also added: 'sum_host', 'sum_net', 'sum_port', and 'sum_as'.
Known networks can now be defined and network lookup now also applies to
hosts: hosts inside defined networks are ok, and hosts outside them are
'zeroed'. Typed/Unified operations were introduced in the PostgreSQL
plugin. Many optimizations were applied to the code, and some string
handling routines were fixed.

[049] - Process Change Detection System 2.8
by Bart Somers (http://freshmeat.net/users/zon4jou/)
Tue, Nov 16th 2004 05:40
Security
System :: Monitoring
About: Process Change Detection System is a script to monitor changes in
processes--not to monitor if your Web server is still running, but to see
if there are new programs running. When debugging a honeypot logging, you
often see that there's an extra inetd running, to open up a backdoor port.
Or, less dramatically, people login to a system and "forget" to logout.
Changes: The "diff-engine" was rewritten from scratch, using hashes
instead of arrays to improve search speed. This also implies a new format
for the baselist. With this more readable baselist, it is possible to add
comments in the baselist too. As the hashes are allready in memory, it is
no longer necessary to write the current list to disk.

About: The Streamlined Blackhole List Server is a real-time,
machine-automated blackhole server designed to blacklist network addresses
which exceed a threshold of network spread, that is, abuse from an address
which has been reported by a number of participating networks (as opposed
to how most other blacklists function, based on total number of reports).
It blacklists addresses until they have cleared a minimum duration (an
hour by default) without any additional reports. It is designed to
function via automated machine-learning spam filters, such as Bayesian
filters. Each participating network is granted write authentication, to
prevent abuse. A client tool is also provided.

[062] - TCLP 0.4.2 (Development)
by Emmanuel Coquery (http://freshmeat.net/users/emmanuelcoquery/)
Tue, Nov 16th 2004 11:37
Software Development :: Bug Tracking
Software Development :: Compilers
About: TCLP is a type checker for Prolog dialects. It is written in
SICStus Prolog. Its goal is to statically trap programming errors like
illegal arguments used in a call for a predicate or illegally built data
structures with respect to a given typing for function symbols or
predicates. TCLP is also capable of type inference for user predicates.
Supported dialects include ISO-Prolog, GNU-Prolog, and SICStus Prolog.
Changes: A cache system was implemented in order to speed up the
initialization of TCLP. This release also contains two bugfixes: it
correctly prints errors of typeof declarations, and prints names correctly
when encountering an error with --option nodefault.

[063] - TWIG 2.8.0
by brg (http://freshmeat.net/users/brg/)
Tue, Nov 16th 2004 11:31
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3
About: TWIG is a Web-based groupware suite written in PHP, compatible with
both PHP3 and PHP4. Its features include IMAP and POP3 email, Usenet
newsgroups, contact management, scheduling, shared notes and bookmarks, a
todo list, and meeting announcements. Any piece of information can be
shared with others via group oriented access controls. By using only plain
HTML, it is a simple, cross-platform, fast, and browser-independent way to
access or share almost any kind of information, without the complexity or
costs of other intranet/groupware packages. It is fully internationalized,
with 24 translations.
Changes: This is the first stable release in nearly two years, full of
bugfixes and improvements. Major changes include the use of CSS to
beautify and reduce page size, better translation support, improved
message indicators in the Mail feature, and two exciting new icon packs.
Several new features have been added, including support for calling TWIG
from mailto: links, capacity graphs in the Mail feature, and for the first
time, Javascript is used for minor buttons. The Search feature is now
enabled by default, and TWIG now operates with register_globals = Off,
requiring at least PHP 4.1.2.

[064] - uClinux 20041116
by David McCullough (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidmc/)
Tue, Nov 16th 2004 01:17
About: uClinux is a set of patches for Linux that supports MMUless
processors. It brings a full featured operating system onto platforms
that would otherwise run less advanced, simpler operating systems.
uClinux gives the programmer a Linux API with remarkably few concessions
to the lack of MMU (Memory Management Unit), and in terms of code size
and efficiency it has an advantage over standard Linux.
Changes: This test release included Linux 2.6.9, Linux 2.4.27,
Linux-2.0.39, uClibc 0.9.26, glibc 2.2.5, busybox 1.00, and much more.

[066] - Webcomics Collector 0.7.3 (Development)
by Anders Bruun Olsen (http://freshmeat.net/users/drzero/)
Tue, Nov 16th 2004 18:56
Internet
Utilities
About: Webcomics Collector is a Python script for downloading webcomics.
It is somewhat similar to dailystrips, but with a different approach to
getting the strips. Where dailystrips uses dates to generate URLs or
regexps, with archive download only being possible with generated URLs
(and often not working correctly), collector uses regexps to grab all
URLs, and makes it possible to download archives no matter what naming
scheme the comic uses.
Changes: This is a quick bugfix release to address a few serious bugs.

Games/Entertainment
About: Xconq is a general strategy game system. It is a complete system
that includes all the components: a portable engine, graphical interfaces
for several platforms, multiple AIs, networking for multi-player games,
and an extensive game library. The games in the library range from ancient
civilizations to the far future, from simple to very complicated. Xconq's
forte is turn-based strategy with overhead map views, using a
hexagonally-tiled world. It includes a game design language GDL, which is
a declarative language that lets you define the units, terrain, etc, then
fill in tables defining their interaction. Literally hundreds of different
properties and tables are available to the game designer.
Changes: This release adds a number of new games, as well as new features,
including improved support for unit experience, increased numbers of unit
graphics, and, in general, a host of new tables in GDL that improve
gameplay and appearance.
