[001] - 1060 NetKernel Standard Edition 2.0.0
by Peter Rodgers (http://freshmeat.net/users/1060/)
Fri, Nov 19th 2004 08:13
Internet
System :: Operating System
About: 1060 NetKernel Standard Edition is an XML Application Server. It
provides a service-oriented operating environment upon which Web
applications and Web services may be built. NKSE is neutral with respect
to Web service technology and provides SOAP 1.1, 1.2, and REST service
hosting. It is based on the 1060 NetKernel modular REST microkernel
architecture. As well as hosting services, applications include
modularized CMS, XML pipeline processing, and XML systems integration.
Changes: This major release provides a new Scriptable Foundation API which
offers a clean abstraction of the kernel APIs. A new NetKernel Scripting
Framework enables services to be choreographed using dynamically-compiled
scripts. The Groovy, Python, Beanshell, and Javascript languages are
supported together with the declarative languages DPML and XRL. A new
unit-test framework is provided for unit testing services; it features
recursive test groups and extensible assertions. Many new technology
modules are provided, including email processing tools. The NetKernel
microkernel has been updated to 2.6.0.

Communications :: Chat
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Message Boards
About: AudienceConnect is a revenue-generating Python CGI solution for
independent content providers. Requests for dynamic content are routed
through PayPal. Previews of that content are generated as static HTML for
search engines to harvest. Self-publishers can upload and publish
remotely, or the editorial CGI can be used to view and publish
submissions. Demo site content is plain text, but AudienceConnect can be
extended to deliver any digital content: sound files, image files, etc.
Installation is very simple; no database technologies are used. The
related modules are completely independent and require only access to
Python 1.5.2 in your cgi-bin.
Changes: The AC_PrePal CGI has been refactored. There is a bugfix in the
creation of set-content previews for sub-sites. There are minor changes in
AC_Common, AC_PostPal, AC_Qualify, and AC_Open. The online manual has been
updated.

[012] - CoaSim 3.0.1
by Thomas Mailund (http://freshmeat.net/users/mailund_birc/)
Fri, Nov 19th 2004 07:56
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
About: CoaSim is a tool for simulating the coalescent process with
recombination and gene conversion under the assumption of exponential
population growth. It efficiently constructs the ancestral recombination
graph for a given number of individuals and uses this to simulate samples
of SNP and micro satellite haplotypes/genotypes. The generated sample can
afterwards be separated in cases and controls, depending on the states of
selected individual markers. The tool can accordingly also be used to
construct cases and control data sets for association studies.

[014] - Conary 0.11.5
by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Fri, Nov 19th 2004 11:00
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: Static libraries (.a files) get proper flavors now. This release
correctly refuses attempts to update already-installed troves from
absolute changesets. In addition, several internal changes were made in an
ongoing process of improving flavor handling.

Fri, Nov 19th 2004 03:04
Database :: Front-Ends
About: Flamerobin is a database administration tool for the Firebird
RDBMS. It features a small footprint, fast execution, cross-platform
compatibility, and only depends on other open source software.
Changes: This version features brand new Backup/Restore dialogs that work
in background, letting you suppress the output messages and store their
settings among invocations. Plus, the output messages can now be copied
to the clipboard. Exceptions are now shown in the tree view and have
Create/ Drop menu commands and a property page. Property pages for
triggers, table constraints, dependencies (all objects), and generators
were added. Plus, a special empty property page now appears for not yet
supported object types, instead of an error message. There is also the
ability to view, add, and drop table constraints.

[019] - freshmit 0.2.1
by Richard Harris (http://freshmeat.net/users/goosequill/)
Fri, Nov 19th 2004 13:49
freshmeat.net
About: freshmit is based on ESR's freshmeat-submit Python script, which
supports remote submission of project release updates to freshmeat via its
XML-RPC interface. freshmit automates release notifications based on
SourceForge project notes and a file named "freshmeat". Examples of these
files are included in the package, as are two Python scripts that are used
to manipulate the SourceForge notes, version, and changelog files.
Changes: This version assumes the first entry in HIDE_FILE is a hidden

within hours you've found some stupid typo and need to release number two.
This can be overridden in the freshmeat file in the project directory.

About: Nodezilla is a secured, distributed, and fault tolerant routing
system (or grid network) that supports distributed services such as file
sharing, chat, efficient video multicast streaming, and secured file

localizing access traffic. To ensure data protection, redundancy and
cryptographic techniques are used.
Changes: The message workflow has been greatly enhanced to reduce
latency. File sharing performance should be better. Also two new modules
are now part of the core distribution: RTP Relaying and Digital Photo

About: psycopg is a PostgreSQL database adapter for the Python programming
language. Its main advantages are that it supports the full Python DBAPI
2.0 and it is thread safe at level 2. It was designed for heavily
multi-threaded applications that create and destroy lots of cursors and
make a conspicuous number of concurrent INSERTs or UPDATEs. The psycopg
distribution includes ZPsycopgDA, a Zope Database Adapter.

[039] - rawdog 2.0
by Adam Sampson (http://freshmeat.net/users/azz/)
Fri, Nov 19th 2004 03:11
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: rawdog is an RSS Aggregator Without Delusions Of Grandeur. It
supports RSS 0.9, 1.0, and 2.0, Atom, and CDF feeds using Mark Pilgrim's
feed parser. It runs from cron, collects articles from a number of feeds,
and generates a static HTML page listing the newest articles in date
order. It supports per-feed customizable update times, and uses ETags,
Last-Modified, and gzip compression to minimize network bandwidth usage.
Changes: This release now uses feedparser 3.3, making its feed handling
significantly more robust. The state file is stored in a more efficient
binary format, and is updated in an NFS- safe way. Duplicate articles can
now be hidden. Feeds without titles are now sorted correctly. An option
has been added to automatically locate and add new feeds given a URL.
Dates with non-UTC timezones are handled correctly. The configuration
file can be automatically updated upon HTTP redirects.

Software Development :: Build Tools
About: slacktrack is a package creation tool which allows you to build
replica Slackware .tgz packages using the "program.build" scripts supplied
within the Slackware source tree.
Changes: This release fixes a bug through which, if --notidy was specified
and slacktrack/altertrack failed to track any changes, the temporary
workspace would be deleted. The /usr/local/bin, /usr/local/sbin, and
/usr/X11R? directories and the files contained within are now chowned
root:bin and stripped. man pages in /usr/X11R?/man are now compressed. A
typo in --help has been fixed and a suggested usage line added. If an
incorrect parameter is specified, --help is directed to STDERR. If no
parameters are specified (or there has been no package name specified),
the usage message is directed to STDERR.

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet
About: Spamresponder is a very simple and radical spam filter, combining
DNS validation with the challenge/response approach. It will go through
all mail messages in /var/mail/$USER, looking for specific "trusted"
strings in the header and body parts of the mail. It will delete and send
an automatic reply to messages which have no "trusted" strings inside
them. Those replies will include one of the "trusted" strings, so the
recipient just needs to reply to this confirmation message. The
MailFrom-address of an email containing a trusted string becomes a trusted
string itself.

About: No more loop tweaking! SweepOver is a Python script that makes the
exploration of a model by numerical simulations easier and faster. It
scans the arguments that a given executable expects and lets the user

by BACbKA (http://freshmeat.net/users/BACbKA/)
Fri, Nov 19th 2004 14:08
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: The SpamBouncer is a set of procmail instructions that search the
headers and text of your incoming email to see if it meets one or more of
a list of conditions for probable spam. It will then either tag the
suspected spam and return it to your main incoming mailbox, tag the
suspected spam, delete spam from known spam sources, and file suspected
spam in a separate folder, send a simulated MAILER-DAEMON daemon
"bounce", complain to the "upstream providers" of known spammers or spam
sites/domains, etc.
Changes: Regular houskeeping updates (haven domains, spam sources, and

About: UMLGraph facilitates the declarative specification and drawing of
UML class and sequence diagrams. One can specify a class design using the
Java syntax complemented by Javadoc tags. Running the UmlGraph doclet on
the specification generates a Graphviz diagram specification that can be
automatically processed to create Postscript, GIF, SVG, JPEG, fig, or
