[007] - Diogene87 0.9.0
  by Zionly (http://freshmeat.net/users/zionly/)
  Thu, Nov 25th 2004 07:14

System :: Systems Administration

About: Diogene87 is a powerful job scheduling system. It features
centralized management, jobs dependencies, start conditions, planning, a
log of job activity job monitoring, statistics for job durations, and
resource control.

Changes: This is the first beta release of Diogene87. With the "file"
condition, the file presence is checked on the remote server (dg87r) where
the task is running (target), and not on the server where diogene87 is
running (dg87x). The "rtca" command accepts a new parameter for "hmin",
"hmax", and "hlate" conditions. It indicates when the condition is
evaluated: 0 for the first day, 1 for the next day, 2 for the second next
day, etc. All communication utilities have been replaced by symlinks to
diocmd. The owner of data files is changed when the daemon is running as
root.

[009] - DirSync 1.06
  by Mario Viara (http://freshmeat.net/users/mviara/)
  Thu, Nov 25th 2004 16:21

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: DirSync is a directory synchronizer. It takes two arguments: the
source directory and the destination directory. It recursively makes the
two directories identical. It can be used to make an incremental copy of
large data. For example, if your file server is in the /data you can make
a copy in /backup with the command dirsync /data /backup. The first time,
all data will be copied, but when you issue the command again, only the
changed files are copied.

Changes: "Henry Spencer's regular expression library" has been added to
support the option -e to exclude files/directories based on regular
expressions. There is a bugfix in the options -x and -X with a file
argument.

  Thu, Nov 25th 2004 16:34

System :: Diagnostics
System :: Monitoring
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: Dstat is a versatile replacement for vmstat, iostat, and ifstat. It
overcomes some of the limitations of these tools and adds some extra
features. It allows you to view all of your system resources instantly;
you can, for example, compare disk usage in combination with interrupts
from your IDE controller, or compare the network bandwidth numbers
directly with the disk throughput (in the same interval).

Changes: This release adds a Python 1.5-compatible version for older
distributions. There have been small changes to the output, closer to what
people expect.

Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Erlang is a small concurrent functional programming language
developed by Ericsson. It is being used by Ericsson as a systems
programming language for large concurrent fault-tolerant distributed
systems.

Changes: A complete tutorial has been added. A new syntax called "Query
List Comprehensions" can be used to query the Mnesia distributed database.
Major standard applications have been added: XMerl and EDoc. This version
is compatible with the latest version of Dialyzer. Two new major features
have been added to the language that improve readability, expressiveness,
and reusability of Erlang code. A new error management mechanism has been
added with a "try ... catch" syntax, and experimental abstract
parametrized modules are now supported.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3

About: gavamail is a POP3/IMAP server proxy for Gmail. It sets up a proxy
server on your localhost that talks with the Gmail service using the g4j
java library. It opens up a port on your local machine which you can then
connect to from your favorite email client.

Changes: This release adds many features from the Beta release. Options
can now be read in from a configuration file as well as the command line.
It also no longer downloads the same message twice (it uses a file to keep
a track of the messages it has downloaded already). You also do not need
to run the program multiple times for various labels. You can specify
them as a comma separated list in the configuration file which then takes
care of getting all the required mail.

[055] - System Garden Habitat 0.99.1

  Thu, Nov 25th 2004 06:58

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring

About: Habitat is a performance management system which captures, stores,
and visualises table-based time series data. Monitor probes exist for
Linux and Solaris with Windows coming soon. It has a command line
interface, a fast GUI client for graphical visualisation, and a simple
format for extending data capture in the agent. It is written in C with
Gtk and can access data from its peers directly, by file sharing, or with
the use of a separate central archiving repository (harvest) to scale to
installations of significant size.

Changes: Significant inroads into the efficiency of data updates were
made, and GUI bugs were fixed to allow the appending of new data to the
viewed graphs. For convenience, updates are suspended if the view is
zoomed. Linux disk probe now returns service time where available and
suppresses devices that don't respond with data. The Solaris system probe
was completely reimplemented to produce absolute values rather than
counters, making them more useful for reporting.

[061] - VideoGuide 1.0.1
  by Michael (http://freshmeat.net/users/nite_man/)
  Thu, Nov 25th 2004 08:16

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: VideoGuide is a Web interface for video libraries. It can parse
directories cotaining movies and insert them into its database, and then
modify, display, or delete movie information, link actors, directors, and
writers with movies, and grab information about specified movies from
IMDB.com.

Changes: Bugs in the Makefile were fixed. New targets were added to the
Makefile: install-src and update-src to install source files without
touching the database. A couple bugs in the service script
get_movie_info.pl were fixed. Default images to display cover and person
photos were added. A bug with check, insert, and link movie person was
fixed. It is now possible to add new genres if they are not in the
VideoGuide when information is retrieved from IMDB.

[064] - wyoEditor 2.2.0
  by Otto Wyss (http://freshmeat.net/users/wyo/)
  Thu, Nov 25th 2004 16:23

Software Development
Text Editors
Text Editors :: Integrated Development Environments (IDE)

About: wyoEditor is a cross-platform editor based on the Scintilla editor
component. The editor has the usual features like fast editing, unlimited
undo/redo, syntax colouring, and folding for many different programming
languages. It also has a class browser, currently only for C++, and keeps
the class/function display updated. The editor allows editing of files in
tabbed notebook pages and/or separate top level windows. It supports
context-sensitive help of any kind of documentation (e.g. programming
framework descriptions) if provided as help files. The editor conforms to
the wxGuide guidelines using the wxWidgets framework.

Changes: This release uses wxScintilla from wxCode, which is updated to
the latest Scintilla version 1.62. wxScintilla allows following the
release cycle of Scintilla much more closely, and allows easier bugfixes.
Most changes are under the hood. Some small annoyances are fixed (e.g. the
C++ class browser doesn't flicker as much as before).

[065] - X-Plane 8.02 (Stable)
  by Stanislaw Y. Pusep (http://freshmeat.net/users/stanislaughterer/)
  Thu, Nov 25th 2004 08:23

Games/Entertainment :: Simulation
Scientific/Engineering

About: X-Plane is a flight simulator that reads in the geometric shape of
any aircraft and then figures out how that aircraft will fly. It does this
via an engineering process called "blade element theory", which involves
breaking the aircraft down into many small elements and then finding the
forces on each little element many times per second. These forces are then
converted into accelerations, which are then integrated to velocities and
positions. This gives X-Plane the most realistic flight model available
for personal computers.

Changes: This release features lower load times, lower RAM requirements,
and higher frame-rates.

[067] - YACY Proxy 0.30
  by Michael Christen (http://freshmeat.net/users/Orbiter/)
  Thu, Nov 25th 2004 07:24

Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: YACY is a distributed Web crawler and also a caching HTTP/HTTPS
proxy. Pages that pass through the proxy are indexed and can be searched
using a built-in HTTP server. YACY peers connect each other and form a
P2P-based index exchange network based on distributed hash tables.
Explicit web crawls can be done locally or collaboratively, forming a
global search and distributed indexing engine for the Web. It also
provides URL filtering with blacklist sharing among other proxy peers,
individual Web/servlet page hosting, a file sharing zone, and a database
engine.

Changes: Remote-crawling was implemented, so peers can now order other
peers to crawl Web pages for them, and results are shared. Proxy
performance was enhanced, and a DNS-cache pre-fetch was integrated.
