Virtual Filesystem: Building A Linux Filesystem From An Ordinary File

You can take a disk file, format it as an ext2, ext3, or reiser
filesystem, and then mount it, just like a physical drive. It's then
possible to read and write files to this newly-mounted device. You can
also copy the complete filesystem, since it is just a file, to another
computer. If security is an issue, read on. This article will show you how
to encrypt the filesystem and mount it with ACL (Access Control Lists),
which gives you rights beyond the traditional read (r), write (w), and
execute (x) permissions for the three user groups "file", "owner", and
"other".

configure and monitor a Wireless Access Point under Unix. It is known to

in the AP. Note that this is a HIDDEN function, since it is really only

About: Ampache is a Web-based MP3/Ogg/RM/Flac/WMA manager. It allows you
to view, edit, and play your audio files via the Web. It has support for
playlists, artist, and album views, album art, random play, and streams

Changes: This release adds Flac and WMA support along with the creation
of valid PLS playlists. Album art is now pulled on catalog build and
updated from Amazon and from JPG or GIF files in the album directory. Tag
information can now be updated on a per album or artist basis. A new user
level "Guest" has been added with view only access. This version also
fixes problem with single quotes in directories that prevented the entire
directory from being indexed.

About: KAlarm lets you configure personal messages to be displayed,
commands to be executed, or emails to be sent, at scheduled times. It
allows you to choose the message font and color, how often to repeat,
whether to display an advance reminder, whether to play a sound when the
message is displayed, and whether to cancel the alarm if it can't be
triggered on time (e.g. if you are logged out at the time). As well as
using the graphical interface to configure alarms, you can use the command
line, and there is a DCOP interface for other applications.

Changes: This release makes the alarm daemon (kalarmd) exclusive to
KAlarm. It allows the user to specify the late-cancellation period for an
alarm, adds the option to automatically close the window after the
late-cancellation period, adds a facility to enable and disable
individual alarms, and adds a simple repetition facility, including
repetition within a recurrence. It also adds an option to pick a KMail
identity as email sender, makes the time edit controls use 12-hour clock
when that is the user's default, and uses KMix whenever possible to set
the hardware sound volume.

About: The Midgard Components Framework (also called MidCOM) is an
advanced component architecture which extends the Midgard Web content
management framework. It provides mechanisms for building a Web site using

building even easier.

Changes: The most important change in this release is probably the new,
automated and centralized toolbar system. Component authors can now plug
together their toolbars programmatically, using a revamped CSS style for
them. This brings far more consistency into the various administrative
interfaces. In addition, the navigation subsystem now allows for such
information, allowing component specific administrative links on-site.
Several minor bugfixes, improvements, and lesser code cleanups were also

About: Motiontrack is a set of tools that detects motion between two
images. It is able to successfully distinguish random flicker from real
object movement by applying a set of filters to the images, and can
optionally ignore given colors and/or image regions. The roadmap provides
for being able to identify objects by pattern detection and AI routines.
Currently, this part is able to turn line-art images into ASCII-art text
and auto-align images which are slightly staggered or contorted. This
might also be useful to correct the perspective of image sources from
different 3D angles.

Changes: This release now supports multi-processing when compiled with
appropriate flags. It then forks into several processes, each computing
an equal part of each image manipulation (for example filtering) task,
and then synchronises the result to the parent process via half duplex
Unix pipes. In this way it possibly improves performance on SMP CPUs,
multi-CPU systems, or OpenMosix-like cluster solutions.

About: OSSP cfg is a ISO-C library for parsing arbitrary C/C++-style
configuration files. A configuration is sequence of directives, each
directive consists of zero or more tokens, and each token can be either a
string or again a complete sequence. This means the configuration syntax
has a recursive structure and allows you to create configurations with
arbitrarily-nested sections. The configuration syntax also provides
complex single/double/balanced quoting of tokens,
hexadecimal/octal/decimal character encodings, character escaping, C/C++
and shell-style comments, etc. The library API allows importing of a
configuration text into an Abstract Syntax Tree (AST), traversing the AST,
and optionally exporting the AST again as a configuration text.

Changes: A 3-layer Perl API was added, consisting of a C-style, an
OO-style, and a convenience all-in-one API for using OSSP cfg from within
the Perl language. Zero-length strings are now accepted for parsing.
End-of-file during plain text token scanning is now correctly handled.

proceedings and papers database and the tools to view and update it. The
database is designed so papers can be linked to more than one proceeding.

Changes: This release provides bugfixes and new features. Editing
proceedings is now possible. BibTeX and Refer exports were improved, and
you can get text/plain files for both. You can delete a file from a paper,
and remove a paper from a proceeding. Support for MS PPT and MS Word files
was added, and PDF is now the default format. Admin navigation was
enhanced. The admin interface page no longer prompts for a login after
you've logged in correctly. The escaping code for SQL was improved. A lot
more parameter checking is now done.

Changes: An RFC compliance issue was fixed. A problem with the Java

the software was fixed. An "enter text here" option was added. A problem
which allowed non-authorized commands to be used if they were prefixed by
a space was fixed. Parameters from the HTML tags and from the
fileparameter option are now mixed. A DCC chat acceptance popup is now
displayed. Queries may now be disabled. Undocked sources can now be
removed from the taskbar. Simple channel name and topic can be used
instead of channel options and so on.

About: Pre Make Kit (PMK) aims to be a BSD alternative to GNU autoconf,
GNU libtool, and pkg-config. It uses data files instead of scripts to
limit the spreading of trojans in software packages. It's designed to be
easy to use for users and developers. For better portability and
efficiency, all of the components are written in C. Requirements are a
POSIX system, a C compiler, a POSIX shell, and a make tool.

Changes: This snapshot introduces CPU detection, starting with x86

whitelisting and an SQL database as storage backend. It is based on
postgrey, refining auto-whitelisting and storing whitelists and
connection attempts in a database. Its goal is reducing the amount of spam

Changes: SQLgrey now can whitelist fully qualified domain names.
hostnames, domains, and regexps can be used to whitelist names on the fly.
By default, the messages that have been accepted are now tagged with a
