[001] - AcpiTool 0.2.6
  by DLeemans (http://freshmeat.net/users/dleemans/)
  Sun, Nov 28th 2004 16:11

System
System :: Systems Administration

About: AcpiTool is a Linux ACPI client. It's a small command line
application, intended to be a replacement for the apm tool. The primary
target audience are laptop users, since these people are most interested
in things like battery status, thermal status and the ability to suspend
(sleep mode). The program simply accesses the /proc/acpi or /sysfs entries
to get/set acpi values. Hence, a computer running a Linux kernel from the
2.4.x or 2.6.x series with ACPI enabled is needed.

Changes: CPU throttling information has been added. The thermal-zone
option also reports trip_points. Battery information also calculates
capacity loss (the difference between the design capacity and the last
full capacity).

Games/Entertainment :: Turn Based Strategy

About: ASC is a turn-based strategy game in the tradition of Battle Isle
2/3. It can be played against the computer or against other human players
(either hotseat or by mail).

Changes: The campaign has been extended by another level, and the existing
levels have been fine tuned. The units have been updated and, as usual,
several bugs were fixed. Some minor improvements to the AI have also been
incorporated.

Information Management

About: Amedes is a member file management system based on the Expression
Web application framework. It aims to help with day-to-day tasks and
communication within organizations. Its basic purpose is to manage cards
containing information about members, including each name, address, phone
number, and fees paid. Member information is accessed by each person in
charge according to his own role in the organization, allowing you to
distribute responsibilities among the organization.

Changes: This version has support for Mailman mailing lists, and brings
many other smaller features.

[009] - Cornfed SIP User Agent 0.4.11

  Sun, Nov 28th 2004 23:12

Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Speech

About: The Cornfed SIP User Agent is a Session Initiation Protocol
(SIP)-based Softphone for your x86 Linux systems. It allows you to make
Internet phone calls using an Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) or
 Open Sound System (OSS) sound card with speakers and microphone as your
telephone handset.

Changes: This release adds the ability to play an 8 KHz sampled .wav file
into the outbound RTP stream or out the computer speakers when no call is
in progress. It fixes a bug with the outbound RTP stream that incorrectly
allowed multiple threads to access a locked stream. It adds buffering for
soundcard output, and updates to how GDK threading is handled to avoid
hanging the GUI.

About: Mailadmin is a little administration interface to the popular Cyrus
mail server daemon. It supports every feature Cyrus provides, and fits in
most MTA configurations. For the sample scripts, Postfix is preferred. A
key feature is the non-standard, generic administration hierarchy which
not only seperates "normal users" from "administrators", but enables the
mailserver-master to create instances between them. You will be able to
let other users create their own sub-users and thus either share a single
mail server between different organizations or project your company's
employee structure.

[012] - Diplojuge 2beta-2
  by greg (http://freshmeat.net/users/platipus/)
  Sun, Nov 28th 2004 16:54

Games/Entertainment :: Turn Based Strategy

About: Diplojuge is a toolkit that can automate all of the actions of a
judge in the Diplomacy game. Contrary to certain existing programs, the
tools are simple and usable on the command line. The most important
software is the adjucator. It reads the map, the positions of the pawns
and centers, and the orders, and it prints the outcomes on standard
output. This can make it possible to easily solve the orders on standard
and electronic Diplomacy games. There are also tools to draw maps with
resulting positions and to allot countries to players.

Changes: Major bugs have been fixed in can_support (pion.py) and FR syntax
(ordre.py). There is a minor fix when a unit defends and there is a stand
off (juge.py).

an interpreter/compiler written in Java. The latter integrates with the
jEdit text editor to provide various advanced features like
cross-referencing and code browsing from within the editor.

Changes: Changes since the last release announced here include a tracing
tool, a single stepper, a stack effect checker, improved documentation, a
new jEdit plugin that communicates with Factor over a socket to provide
various IDE-like features, and many bugfixes and cleanups.

Database
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: The GCC XML Tree Node Introspector project consists of a patch to
the gcc compiler to output the internal compiler tree nodes in RDF/XML and
programs to process that RDF/XML. The tree nodes are complex data
structures which represent the source code inside the compiler. Through
these tree nodes, users are able to extract information from their
programs that would be otherwise very difficult to obtain. Modules exist
to store these nodes in Redland RDF using a Berkley database. The
long-term goal of the project is create a high-level API that will make
the programmatic manipulation of programs easier than it is now.

Changes: This is the (incomplete) alpha version of a major rewrite and
speed improvement of the program.

  by Radu Corlan (http://freshmeat.net/users/rcorlan/)
  Sun, Nov 28th 2004 16:50

Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy

About: GCX provides a complete set of data-reduction functions for CCD
photometry, with frame WCS fitting, automatic target identification,
aperture photometry of target and standard stars, single-frame ensemble
photometry data reduction, multi-frame color coefficient fitting,
extinction coefficient fitting, and all-sky photometry. It also controls
CCD cameras and telescopes, and implements automatic observation
scripting. Cameras are controlled through a hardware-specific server, to
which gcx connects through a TCP socket. The program can control
telescopes which use the LX200 protocol, and refine pointing by matching
images to the GSC catalog position of stars. It generates FITS files with
comprehensive header information.

Changes: This release fixes some errors and typos in the manual and
improves aperture centering. The photometry report file includes frame

[036] - JEgg 0.4.0
  by brulow (http://freshmeat.net/users/brulow/)
  Sun, Nov 28th 2004 19:46

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: JEgg provides an implementation for Java Active Objects that
simplifies the development of multithreaded Java applications. JEgg
objects interact using arbitrary messages rather than synchronous method
invocations. It can be configured to execute on the same or separate
threads without changing the application logic, and it does not require
the explicit use of Java synchronization or the java.lang.Thread class.
Consequently, application objects are highly cohesive and loosely coupled
with no compile-time dependencies.

Changes: This version includes refactoring to cleanup the top-level jegg
package. The maven-based build has been replaced with an ordinary
Ant-based build. The example JEgg-based packet-router application is
easier to build and run from the command line.

Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony

About: YATE is a telephony engine aimed at creating an telephony server
that performs well enough to deal with PBX requirements and also flexible
enough for complex Gateway and IVR solutions.

Changes: Fax capabilities have been added, based on the external library
spandsp. This allows sending and receiving faxes into .tiff files, so it
is possible to build a (E1/T1 or VoIP (H323, IAX)) fax server or a
fax2mail system.

[065] - zsync 0.1.1

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: zsync is a client-side implementation of the rsync algorithm. It
allows updating of files from a remote Web server without requiring a
full download or a special remote server application. It uses a metafile,
which must be created on the server, to determine which parts of a file
the user already has; it then downloads the remaining parts via HTTP. No
special server or Web server module is needed. It can also look inside
gzip files, allowing efficient update transfers even when files are
compressed.

Changes: More improvements were made to the compressed file download
support.
