About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable device support, full iproute2 command
set support, interface dependency resolution, and a QoS configuration
framework. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
Ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv6/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
Ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, Pent
NET, usbnet, and
PPP. Due to its modular design, support for new interface types can be
added without overall design changes.
Changes: A bug in which ipv4route was ignored was fixed in
print_progress(). An error message about missing iwconfig was fixed. Minor
enhancements were made.

[002] - Aggrevator 0.7.0
by Adewale Oshineye (http://freshmeat.net/users/adewale/)
Sat, Feb 26th 2005 13:05
About: Aggrevator is an RSS/Atom aggregator that uses a MySQL 4.1 database
for storage. The main advantage of Aggrevator is that it is scalable. It
has been tested successfully with 4000 simultaneous feeds from a variety
of sources. Once your database is set up, you can connect to it from any
running instance of Aggrevator (with a valid username and password), so
you no longer have to manually synchronize different installations of the
same aggregator.
Changes: The 0.6.5 release was broken on Linux. This release fixes it so
that users can once again start Aggrevator on Linux. C3P0ConnectionPool
was plugged in as a replacement for Proxool. The caching code was improved
so that the cache doesn't become corrupted as often.

About: acoc is a regular-expression based colour formatter for programs
that display output on the command-line. It works as a wrapper around the
target program, executing it and capturing the stdout stream. Optionally,
stderr can be redirected to stdout, so that it, too, can be manipulated.
acoc then applies matching rules to patterns in the output and applies
colours to those matches.
Changes: SIGPIPE is now caught while exiting.

[004] - Ascii2Binary 2.5
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Sat, Feb 26th 2005 14:35
Utilities
About: The Ascii2Binary project consists of two complementary programs
that convert between textual and binary representations of numbers.
Ascii2Binary reads input consisting of textual representations of numbers
separated by whitespace and produces as output the binary equivalents. It
is useful for generating test data and linking programs that generate
textual output to programs that require binary input. Binary2Ascii
converts binary numbers to text. In both programs, the type and
size/precision of the input or output is selected using command line
flags.
Changes: The makefile has been revised to eliminate problems that arose on
some systems. Internationalization has been made optional due to unforeseen
variation in its availability. If internationalization is disabled, the
programs should compile and run on any POSIX-compliant system. They are
known to run under GNU/Linux, SunOS, and FreeBSD. With
internationalization they are known to run under GNU/Linux, but problems
may arise on other systems.

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Asymptote is a powerful script-based vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. It is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program, allowing it to exploit the best
features of script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI)
methods. High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language
itself, allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: This release includes a dramatic optimization of the simplex
method used to solve the linear programming problem associated with
picture sizing and deferred drawing, by removing superfluous constraints.
It also attempts to resize pictures that cannot be fit within the given
size constraints. A font initialization bug was fixed and the Feynman
module was updated.

Sat, Feb 26th 2005 12:24
Communications
Internet
System
About: GNU VPE creates a virtual ethernet by creating host-to-host
tunnels between multiple endpoints. Unlike other virtual private
"network" solutions which merely create a single tunnel, it creates a
real network with multiple endpoints. It is designed to be very simple
and easy to setup. It can also be used to tunnel into some VPN network
using a variety of protocols. It is, however, primarily designed to sit
on the gateway machines of company branches to connect them together.
Changes: This is the first GNU release. The biggest change is the renaming
of binaries and directories from "vpe" to "gvpe". The documentation has
been improved and corrected. A number of minor bugs have been corrected,
mostly in the I/O manager, which previously caused some missed timeouts
and reconnects.

by more specific depth and count information.
Changes: Tables can now be selected by table tag attributes. The lineage()
method now returns row and column information as well as depth and count
for each ancestor (a potential backwards incompatibility exists - entries
are now 4 element arrays rather than 2). Header matching and column
retention enhancements were made. Old-style procedures were deprecated in

[065] - When 1.0.22
by Ben Crowell (http://freshmeat.net/users/bcrowell/)
Sat, Feb 26th 2005 21:51
Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: When is an extremely simple personal calendar program, aimed at the
Unix geek who wants something minimalistic. It can keep track of things you
need to do on particular dates. It's a very short and simple program, so
you can easily tinker with it yourself. It doesn't depend on any
libraries, so it's easy to install. You should be able to install it on
any system where Perl is available, even if you don't have privileges for
installing libraries. Its file format is a simple text file, which you can
edit in your favorite editor.
Changes: When the user explicitly asks for a month's or a year's worth of
calendar data, it is no longer truncated to the number of lines of output
specified in the 'rows' preference variable.

[066] - XDBCMS 0.09
by Carl Beech (http://freshmeat.net/users/carlbeech/)

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: XDBCMS is a Web-based, multi-user CMS that can manage any number of
Web sites, each site with any number of pages, and each site organised in a
tree-based menu that can be any depth. Where XDBCMS differs from most
content management systems is that it actually generates a stand-alone Web
site, which requires no database to drive it, can be 'released' to any Web
server, and would be able to cope with very large numbers of users. For
the authors, it features a WYSIWYG editor, similar to MS-Word in
appearance, allowing full control over the format (tables, fonts,
graphics, etc.) of each individual page. It allows multiple authors and
features a group-based security system.
Changes: A JavaScript bug that appeared if editors other than RTE were
used was fixed. A new facility allows users to ask the system to
regenerate an individual page rather than regenerating the whole website.

in the fstab configuration file. The application menu and user shortcuts
are stored in the same format as the Xfce4 root menu, so they can be
edited with the tool that cames with the Xfce environment.
