[001] - AbstractDB 0.1.1 Alpha
  by Pacific-Cybersoft (http://freshmeat.net/users/pacificc/)
  Thu, Mar 10th 2005 16:28

Database :: API

About: AbstractDB is a database abstraction layer, object oriented and
extensible via driver implementations which extend from a common base
class. This package encapsulates all of the basic functions required by
most developers without the complexity and/or utter simplicity of many
other abstraction packages.

Changes: GetDatabase(), SetDatabase(), GetFieldCount(), GetFieldNames(),
and GetRowCount() methods were added to the main class and drivers for
retrieving and setting the current database name, obtaining the number and
names of field returned by a query, and finding the number of rows returned
by a query. A Replace() method for executing REPLACE queries was also
added. Several documentation errors were corrected.

  Thu, Mar 10th 2005 16:23

Games/Entertainment :: First Person Shooters

About: AMX Mod X is a Metamod plugin which allows you to write
modifications for Half-Life with a small scripting language. It provides
in-game administration tools, game statistics, server management, and
gameplay modifiers. It is based on the original AMX Mod.

Changes: The NS module was updated for Natural Selection 3.0. A new
package was added to maintain unsupported SQL/DBI modules, and modules for
SQL Lite and MySQL 4.1 were added. cs_set and get_user_armor were added
along with more client menu functionality in menufront. A logging bug in
the SDK, problems with bots and uninitialized players disconnecting, an
issue in the installer when using Condition-Zero, custom weapons in xmod
stuff, a grenade problem in CSX, and a hitzones problem with Fun were
fixed. The language files were synchronized.

Software Development :: Version Control

About: ArX is a flexible, high performance, distributed revision control
system featuring whole-tree atomic changesets, easy branching, and
sophisticated merging. ArX has always been self hosting.

Changes: Security fixes and a few new features were added. An insecure
path handling issue with building configurations was fixed by removing the
configuration mechanism and enhancing the capabilities of "tag" so that it
can take its place. "diff" now has a recursive option, "merge" and
"replay" are much simpler, "make-dist" and "init-tree" were renamed to
"export" and "init", and gpg is now much less chatty.

[005] - BitBake 1.2 (stable)
  by Chris Larson (http://freshmeat.net/users/kergoth/)
  Thu, Mar 10th 2005 22:00

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: Bitbake is a simple tool for executing tasks. It is derived from
Portage, the package management system used by the Gentoo Linux
distribution. It is most commonly used to build packages, and is used as
the basis of the OpenEmbedded project.

Changes: Performance improvements were achieved for subsequent builds. The
program now quickly skips building of packages that have already been
completed, and doesn't emit event notifications for package start and
package stop for those packages.

  by joergenp (http://freshmeat.net/users/joergenp/)
  Thu, Mar 10th 2005 03:56

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers

About: Blackbox is yet another addition to the list of window managers for
X. It is written in C++, sharing no common code with any other window
manager (even though the graphics implementation is similar to that of
WindowMaker). It features small code size, a fast interface with simple
menus, multiple workspaces, decorated windows, built-in graphics code to
render solids, gradients, and bevels on the fly, and more.

Changes: This version implemented version 1.3 of the EWMH standard, and
overhauled style syntax, advanced features, and control. bbkeys 0.9.0 is
recommended for EWMH compliant keyboard shortcut support.

[009] - Conary 0.50.3

  Thu, Mar 10th 2005 13:42

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: Bugfixes include a fixed check to prevent accidentally reverting
source code changes, nested group handling, excessive repository changeset
cache cleaning, and improved source merge handling. Enhancements include
debuginfo components, more multilib policy, and several speedups.

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: Connect Daily, a Web-based calendaring system, allows multiple
users to add and edit calendar events using a Web browser. The calendar
display can be directly integrated into your Web site. It provides
advanced capabilities for managing resources and facilities. The approval
processes allow many users to edit calendars, with the assurance that all
items added are approved. It supports event download to MS Outlook and
Palm OS PDAs. Export to iCal clients like KOrganizer, Evolution, and Apple
iCal is supported. Authentication to LDAP directories is also supported.

Changes: A list events view feature has been added. The list view is
similar to the week view, but without the small calendars, and with a user
specified date range. Improved error logging if a run-time exception is
thrown. Edit calendar now verifies the presence of custom headers or
footers on save. An error in the resource conflict detection code has been
fixed. An issue in the file upload form that could cause file names and
descriptions with double-byte characters to be corrupted has been fixed.
Several small time zone display related issues in search and item view
have been fixed.

[011] - DebSync 2.00
  by Jerome Alet (http://freshmeat.net/users/jalet/)
  Thu, Mar 10th 2005 10:06

About: DebSync is a Python command line tool which helps to synchronize a
bunch of Debian GNU/Linux machines with respect to the list of packages
installed. DebSync retrieves the list of installed packages from a master
host, and then installs or removes packages on any number of other hosts
to make them have the very same installed packages list as the master
host.

Changes: This command now internally uses dpkg --get-selections and
--set-selections. An unattended mode was added, available with a command
line option. The help and manual pages were upgraded.

  Thu, Mar 10th 2005 03:57

Communications :: Chat
Communications :: File Sharing

About: Fast Messaging Peer to Peer (FM P2P) is a simple P2P program that
forms a TCP-based overlay network by which a user may chat or share
files. It is targetted at smaller networks and is not the most efficient
system in the world. It was designed to resolve the frustration of using
many different workstations with different operating systems and having
no way to easily transfer files or move notes.

Changes: An occasional deadlock condition created when all threads were
trying to send to each other and none were recieving was fixed by closing
connections after 30 seconds.The loop pruning code was fixed to prune the
correct types of messages. This makes the deadlock described above much
less likely. Minor GUI fixes were made, some comments were added to the
code, and the org.tcup.ByteSender class was replaced with
org.tcup.DefaultRouter.

Communications
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: GeboGebo is a wiki system written for tdbengine. It stores all data
in a local database structure and thus provides an indexed fulltext search.
It uses a simple syntax, and has user lists, pages history, a missing pages
list, and a recent changes list. Image and file upload are possible, but
can be disabled. This allows it to work as a small document management
system. A blacklist allows you to lock existing pages from being edited or
new pages from being created. It can also be run in static mode, where all
pages are additionally held as static HTML pages.

Changes: This version made output conform to XHTML to avoid trouble on
certain browsers. The full-text search can now be used from outside the
system by requesting the search result as RSS feeds. Navigation and
editing can now be accessed via access keys. A problem where image uploads
that were initiated from Windows machines could have failed because of
upper case filenames was fixed along with some minor bugs concerning
umlauts.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management :: Document Repositories

About: ivata groupware is a groupware/intranet portal system based around
J2EE standards. It provides an enterprise-ready solution. It is a great
tool to enable teams to find contacts in team and private address books,
to share documents, to post articles and notes, to comment on articles, to
receive notifications via email, to plan meetings and other events in the
calendar, and to access email via the Web.

Changes: This release completes the restructuring around a POJO model,
using Hibernate as a persistence layer (which we started last summer). The
code base has been split up, so more code can be re-used in later projects,
and application of the ivata masks framework to further simplify the code
has begun. This is the first release to support Windows "out of the box",
using the excellent hMailServer as the email back-end. There's a new
install program, and much of the code has been streamlined to use CSS
rather than having presentation information directly in the HTML.

  Thu, Mar 10th 2005 09:12

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering

About: JGraph is a robust and complete graph component that is better than
many of its commercial competitors. With the JGraph zoomable component, you
can display objects and relations (networks) in any Swing UI. It can also
be used on the server-side to read an GXL graph, apply a custom layout
algorithm, and return the result as an SVG image.

Changes: This release adds a couple of performance improvements relating
to the manipulation of large numbers of cells. GraphEd, one of the JGraph
examples, was changed into an applet, as well as being given further hooks
to make it easier to use it as a superclass. Various bugs were fixed:
JGraph.updateAutoSize now snaps to grid,
VertexRenderer.paintSelectionBorder restores the previous graphics stroke,
and the LabelAlongEdge attribute ignores a number of control points in
EdgeRenderer.

Security
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: The Linux Intrusion Detection System (LIDS) is a patch which
enhances the kernel's security by implementing a reference monitor and
Mandatory Access Control (MAC). When it is in effect, chosen file
access, all system/network administration operations, any capability use,
raw device, memory, and I/O access can be made impossible even for root.
You can define which programs can access specific files. It uses and
extends the system capabilities bounding set to control the whole system

About: ShaniXmlParser is an XML/HTML DOM/SAX parser that can be
validating. It can parse badly formed XML files. It can parse files with
inverted tags and bad escaped &,< and >. It expands all HTML entities. It
is well suited to parse HTML files. It is up to 3 times faster than the
internal JDK 1.5 xerces parser and as fast as the internal JDK 1.4 Crimson
parser, compliant with the jaxp/w3c DOM interfaces, and very small.

Changes: This release adds a major improvement in parsing speed.

  by Swergar Tsang (http://freshmeat.net/users/swergar/)
  Thu, Mar 10th 2005 21:46

System :: Recovery Tools

About: Clone Linux System is a script that uses standard Linux programs
like dump, restore, stat, and parted to clone and restore a Linux system.
It supports ext2 and ext3 filesystems. RAID support is experimental.

Changes: The full path of grub-install/lilo is now used in restore.sh. All
partitions detected by parted are now removed in partition.sh. RAID and
non-RAID system dumps are now implemented in different scripts. A bug
where /tmp was used to perform a restore by default despite it not always
having enough space was fixed. A problem with detecting inodes incorrectly
was corrected and minor bugfixes were made.

[060] - SOPE Application Server 4.4beta.4
  by OpenGroupware.org (http://freshmeat.net/users/helge5/)
  Thu, Mar 10th 2005 08:47

Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: The SOPE package is an extensive set of frameworks (16 frameworks,
~1500 classes) which form a complete Web application server environment.
Besides the Apple WebObjects compatible appserver extended with Zope
concepts, it contains a large set of reusable classes: XML processing
(SAX, DOM, XML-RPC), MIME/IMAP4 processing, LDAP connectivity, RDBMS
connectivity, and iCalendar parsing. The parts of the package can be used
stand-alone (e.g. in Cocoa applications) and do not require the appserver
parts. For MacOSX developers, the package includes SOPE:X, which contains
special Xcode and Cocoa support for SOPE.

Changes: A major security issue with respect to the LDAP password check
was fixed. The code did not behave properly if the LDAP server is
configured to allow unauthenticated binds. Furthermore, a minor issue with
header field termination was fixed in the MIME generator.

[063] - Swing XML Authoring Tool 0.2.0
  by pmarrone (http://freshmeat.net/users/pmarrone/)
  Thu, Mar 10th 2005 06:30

About: SwiXAT is a Swing-based authoring tool for the quick and easy
development of GUI Java applications. It implements a true MVC framework
and uses XML to define the view (SwiXML is used as the XUL engine),
BeanShell as a scripting language for the controller, and JXPath as the
binding mechanism between the view and model. It provides a complete
environment in which it is possible to almost write an entire Java Swing
application without writing Java compiled code. The use of XPath makes it
very simple to traverse the object tree of the application's business
model.

Changes: The integration with the XUL engine has been improved. The XPath
language is now fully supported for traversing the application's object
model. The integration with the Spring framework has been completed.
