[001] - abcm2ps 4.10.2 (Development)
by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
Mon, Jun 6th 2005 04:40
Printing
About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.
Changes: Some cases of %%staffbreak problems at the start or end of lines
were fixed.

[005] - Another File Integrity Checker 2.8-0
by Gerbier Eric (http://freshmeat.net/users/gerbier/)
Mon, Jun 6th 2005 04:46
Security
System :: Systems Administration
About: afick is another file integrity checker, designed to be fast and
fully portable between Unix and Windows platforms. It works by first
creating a database that represents a snapshot of the most essential parts
of your computer system. You can then run the script to discover all
modifications made since the snapshot was taken (i.e. files added,
changed, or removed). The configuration syntax is very close to that of
aide or tripwire, and a graphical interface is provided.
Changes: The tar.gz install was improved and can now use "exotic" Perl
paths and save config files on update. The documentation was translated to
French. The program's security was improved by allowing MD5 and SHA1
checksums concurrently, restricting rights on database files, and forcing
checks on the integrity checker itself.

[006] - Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript 2005-06-06
by Terry Burton (http://freshmeat.net/users/terryburton/)
Mon, Jun 6th 2005 08:59
Information Management
Multimedia :: Graphics
Office/Business :: Financial :: Point-Of-Sale
About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.
Changes: Optional whitespace guards have been added to the human readable
text of EAN barcodes. The position of the first character of EAN-13s has
been adjusted to guard the whitespace to the left of the bars.

configuration. Bayonne also features "TGI" for making perl applications
"telephony aware". Bayonne may be used to build telephony based system
administration, home automation, automated attendent, v-commerce, and
voice messaging systems.
Changes: Support was added for wired and protocol stack based telephony
drivers, including initial support for SIP and H323. Bayonne 2 uses a
simplified driver model and exposes core functionality both through an
interface library and a model script driven voice application server. This
is an initial release to allow public testing and development of Bayonne 2
to officially begin. As such, it has a limited functional range which will
be expanded upon over the summer months.

Software Development :: Code Generators
About: CodeWorker is a versatile parsing tool and a universal source code
generator. It interprets a scripting language for producing reusable,
tailor-made, evolving, and reliable IT systems with a high level of
automation. The file formats to parse are described in an extended-BNF
syntax. Template-based scripts drive the writing of patterns for
generating code or text. The code generation knows how to preserve
protected areas with hand-typed code and provides code expansion,
source-to-source translation, and program transformation. It provides a

wmapplet/dockapps, GNOME 2 panel applets, and ROX panel applets. The
applet programmer doesn't have to care about where the applet will be
used, since the library handles that. Over 50% of the code in a dockapp
and a GNOME 2 Panel applet does only one thing, setting up the applet
window. With GAI, this can be reduced to just a few lines of code.
Changes: Major bugfixes were made and a few new features added, among them
NLS support. Only German is supported at the moment.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Metastorage is a PHP data access object generator compiler tool. It
implements an object persistence API from a description in an XML format
named CPML. The persistent object classes implement object-relational
mappings, so developers do not have to write SQL manually. It features an
object query language for specifying conditions for querying objects,
generation of classes for producing reports, generation of classes to
manage templated Web forms for creating new persistent objects, and
generation of UML class diagrams. It can be run from the command line or
from a Web interface.
Changes: This release introduced support for generating report data
extraction classes that generate presentation reports or perform any other
kind of bulk processing of data of objects of one or more classes.
Metastorage now also supports establishing relationships between classes
defined in different component files. A bug in the compiler command line
processing class that made Metastorage halt under PHP 5 was fixed.
Updating the values of automatic class variables was implemented. UML
class diagram generation now features automatic long line word wrap
support.

Mon, Jun 6th 2005 09:19
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: ObjectScript is a general purpose object-oriented programming
language. It is designed to be simple to learn, easy to use, and powerful,
combining the convenience of an interactive interpreter with many of the
features of Java: a simple Java-like syntax, javadoc support, a class
system (single inheritance), private vs. public fields and methods,
exceptions, synchronization and threading, regular expressions, etc. Since
it can be interactively interpreted, ObjectScript can be used to debug or
learn Java systems. And since it supports extending Java classes and
interfaces, it can add sophisticated scripting to an existing Java
application.
Changes: Function call optimizations were made. The following array
methods were added: arr.some(fxn), arr.every(fxn), arr.map(fxn),
arr.filter(fxn), and arr.forEach(fxn). In the file chooser/file browser,
the file system is now accessed from the worker thread rather than the GUI

Changes: This version of OS3Grid offers two new features: the ability for
the user to resize columns interactively and column renderers to change
column data before it is output to the Grid. Also, the new attribute
"start_counter" will let the programmer define which is the first row
number to be shown. This is just a counter, and all the rows will be
output as usual. The documentation has been updated to cover these new
features. Two new examples have been added to show new OS3Grid
capabilities. CSS and examples have been updated to work better on

by Kristof Beyls (http://freshmeat.net/users/kbeyls/)
Mon, Jun 6th 2005 06:15
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: The RDVIS tool helps programmers pin-point the sources of cache
misses and poor temporal locality in their source code. The visualization
often directs the experienced programmer towards the necessary program
transformations within a few minutes. The tool consists of two parts: a
GUI that visualizes the low temporal locality patterns, and a patched GCC
compiler to extract the low-locality patterns from programs.
Changes: Two changes were made to allow handling of programs with lots of
reuse arrows (up to about 1000 arrows). Firstly, the layout of the arrows
is computed in O(N) time instead of O(N^2), where N is the number of
arrows. Secondly, the cluster computation is now O(MN^2) instead of
O(MN^3), where N is the number of arrows and M is the number of basic
blocks in the visualized program.

[072] - Remosync 0.6.2
by Phil Kett (http://freshmeat.net/users/pkett/)
Mon, Jun 6th 2005 08:55
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities
About: Remosync is a network-aware directory synchronization tool. It
synchronizes two directory structures either on the same machine or across
a network. In network mode, it runs as a client/server application and does
not require the use of any external programs. It is configurable from
either the commandline or a configuration file and is designed to be run
either from scripts or a cronjob.
Changes: This release adds a reporting function that will tell you how
long remosync took to scan the directory and how many files have been
copied, and will show the total size of those files and the average speed
of the transfer. It fixes a bug in the client side file deletion routine
that would cause a segfault on large directory structures.

Mon, Jun 6th 2005 08:56
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: SISC is an extensible Java-based interpreter of the algorithmic
language Scheme. It uses modern interpretation techniques and handily
outperforms all existing Java interpreters (often by more than an order of
magnitude). In addition, SISC is a complete implementation of the language.
The entire R5RS Scheme standard is supported. This includes a full number
tower including complex number support and arbitrary precision integers
and floating point numbers, proper tail recursion, hygienic macros, and
full support for first-class continuations (not just the escaping
continuations found in many other systems).
Changes: This release fixes garbage leaks in Closure, adds missing exports
and fixes for SRFIs 35 and 42, fixes two minor errors with vector-fill! and
list-ref, and fixes a logand bug with big integers.

it to access their bookmark collection from anywhere, and share it with
friends. It is intended for use in a browser's sidebar, and offers a
clean, easy to use interface.
Changes: This release adds support for binary favicons, changes the logic
for emptying a full favicon cache, improves autodetection for supported
import formats, and has a workaround for a Firefox bug. It fixes a problem
when reading translator-exported zip files, the installer/uninstaller for
the MS IE sidebar, an error when deleting inactive users, a451 error with

[078] - Task Coach 0.39
by Frank Niessink (http://freshmeat.net/users/fniessink/)
Mon, Jun 6th 2005 11:49
Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: Task Coach is a simple todo manager to manage personal tasks and
todo lists. It grew out of a frustration that well-known task managers,
such as those provided with Outlook or Lotus Notes, do not provide
facilities for composite tasks. Often, tasks and other things to do
consist of several activities. Task Coach is designed to deal with
composite tasks.
Changes: This release adds several sorting related features. Tasks can be
sorted on all attributes (subject, start date, due date, budget, etc.)
This includes options to sort ascending or descending and to first sort by
status (active/inactive/completed). Also, the sorting order can be changed
by clicking on column headers.

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: The Mana World (TMW) is a serious effort to create an innovative
free and open source MMORPG. It uses 2D graphics and aims to create a
large and diverse interactive world. The game aims to be a unique place
for people to interact not only by fighting each other but to play life,
form a community within the community, or just simply chat. Although the
game is never-ending and a linear story cannot be applied, it should have
enough background to describe and predefine tribes, kingdoms, and the
environment overall. Fullfilled quests should lead to certain events
depending on them being solved. Quests should also encourage teamwork.
Changes: This release adds the ability to trade items and money, item
descriptions, and a confirmation dialog before quitting. It fixes all
known OpenGL issues and adds a framerate limit option to reduce CPU usage.

Mon, Jun 6th 2005 08:54
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: XML User Profiles is a system that allows for remote and
transferable user accounts. The file format is a lightweight but flexible
vCard transformation that allows better profile sharing and simpler
implementations than FOAF. The current specification and a few sample
implementations in PHP are provided. The library currently allows for
authentication against the simple LOGIN interface or the Drupal XML-RPC
service in addition to the distributed and strong authentication LID-1.0
and OpenID-0.0 single-sign-on systems.
Changes: This release introduces an user-friendly profile server for
existing SQL user databases, which also provides OpenID-0.0 sign-on
functionality. Minimal bindings have been added for phpBB2, Tiki,
PostNuke, WordPress, Drupal, Mambo, Phorum, MediaWiki, Scoop, Typo3, and
other systems. A patchset that allows phpBB2 to use shared user profiles
is almost complete.
