  Wed, Jun 15th 2005 17:54

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Scientific/Engineering
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX

About: cb2Bib is a tool for rapidly extracting unformatted bibliographic
references from email alerts, journal Web pages, and PDF files. It
facilitates the capture of single references from unformatted sources.
References are written in BibTeX. A PDF file with the article text, if
available, can be easily linked and renamed by dragging it onto the
cb2Bib window. Reference manager applications can later retrieve,
import, and display these BibTeX references.

Changes: Code rearrangement and cleanup has been done to easily
accommodate the editing and extracting capabilities. A different approach
to automatic field recognition is introduced. Optionally, in case
recognition fails, individual fields can be guessed. This simplifies
manual extraction in such cases. There are some fixes. A line number
indicator for the editors has been added.

  Wed, Jun 15th 2005 14:08

Database
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Database :: Front-Ends

About: Clustered JDBC provides high availability and performance
scalability for databases. It provides transparent database clustering
(partitioning, replication, etc.) to any Java application through JDBC. It
works with any Java application without code modification and with any
database engine. It has been successfully tested with Tomcat, JBoss,
JOnAS, WebSphere, MySQL, PostgreSQL, HSQL, SAP DB, Oracle, DB2, Sybase, MS
SQL Server, Firebird, and more.

Changes: This release includes many fixes for better portability and
improved performance. It adds support for batch updates in proxying mode
and fixes transaction isolation support, which was broken in 1.3.1. It
integrates a couple of JMX fixes and improves the shutdown process. C-JDBC
connections are now thread-safe to prevent applications sharing the same
connection in autocommit mode to break the underlying protocol.

  by Volker Tanger (http://freshmeat.net/users/vtanger/)
  Wed, Jun 15th 2005 00:19

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: MoSSHe (MOnitoring with SSH Environment) is a simple, lightweight
(both in size and system requirements) server monitoring package designed
for secure and in-depth monitoring of a number of typical Internet
systems. It was developed to keep the impact on network and performance
low, and to use a safe, encrypted connection for in-depth inspection of
the system checked. It is not possible to remotely run (more or less
arbitrary) commands via the monitoring system, nor is unsafe cleartext
SNMP messaging necessary (yet possible). A read-only Web interface makes
monitoring and status checks simple (and safe) for admins and helpdesk.
Checking scripts are included for remote services (DNS, HTTP, IMAP2,
IMAP3, POP3, samba, SMTP, and SNMP) and local systems (disk space, load,
CPU temperature, fan speed, free memory, print queue size and activity,
processes, RAID status, and shells).

Changes: MAILQ_CHECK was added to control the length of the mail queue to
localcheck.functions. In the main MoSSHe script, removal of stale stat
files is now done in a safer way. Statistics are no longer incomplete. The
date of the last check was added to showall.py.

wiki markup, and the content is rendered in rich HTML using an embedded
mozilla widget. Wiki pages are shown in a tree for quick access.

Changes: Local and remote images can now be embedded in various positions
in the document using various scaling options. This option was added to
the Edit Toolbar. Links can now be made to any file or document on your
local filesystem. A context menu was added to the tree list of wiki pages.
Renaming a wiki page now automatically updates other pages that link to it.
Built-in spell checking during edit was implemented, but can be disabled in
the preferences. A Debian/Ubuntu .deb package file is now available.

About: openMailAdmin is a little administration interface to every
complete IMAP mail server daemon. It supports every feature IMAP provides,
and fits in most MTA configurations. A key feature is the non-standard,
generic administration hierarchy which not only seperates "normal users"
from "administrators", but enables the mailserver-master to create
instances between them. You will be able to let other users create their
own sub-users and thus either share a single mail server between different
organizations or project your company's employee structure. It excels with
features such as regex addresses and folder ACL management.

Changes: A workaround was added for Cyrus' "empty ACL name" bug. Output
was transformed to XHTML.

  Wed, Jun 15th 2005 00:51

Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: pmacct is a small set of IPv4/IPv6 accounting and aggregation
tools. Aggregation of IP traffic revolves around the concept of
primitives (VLAN id, source and destination MAC addresses, IP addresses,
networks, AS numbers, ports, ToS field, and IP protocol are supported)
that may be employed alone or arbitrarily combined with others to form
complex aggregation methods. It supports custom historical breakdown,
packet sampling, filtering and tagging, recovery actions, and triggers.
Both libpcap (and promiscuous mode if required) and NetFlow
v1/v5/v7/v8/v9 are supported.

Changes: MPLS Pre-Tagging and filtering support has been introduced in
both pmacctd and nfacctd; Netflow v9 VLAN and MAC addresses support has
been also introduced. CHDLC link layer support has been added. A bug
related to ether_aton()/ether_ntoa() routines on x86_64 architectures has
been fixed. A new packet capturing size option (-L, "snaplen") has been
added to pmacctd to cope with not fixed protocol stacks (i.e. the MPLS
stack).

  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Wed, Jun 15th 2005 00:55

Software Development
Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: Redet (Regular Expression Development and Execution Tool) is a tool
for developing and executing regular expressions using any of more than 20
search programs, editors, and programming languages. For each program in
each locale a palette showing the available regular expression constructs
is provided. The features of each program are determined by running a test
suite, which guarantees that they will be correct for the particular
program version in use and for the user's locale. The locale may be
changed without exiting Redet. Selections from the palette may be copied
to the regular expression window with a mouse click. Definitions can be
added to the palette via an initialization file. The regular expressions
executed are recorded in a history list, from which entries may be copied
to the regular expression window with a mouse click. This allows complex
regular expressions to be developed in pieces. When a suitable regular
expression has been constructed it may be saved to a file. Named character
classes may be defined in a file or entered interactively. As long as the
underlying program supports Unicode, Redet fully supports UTF-8 Unicode.

Changes: It is now possible to set the agrep command-line flags that
control approximate matching. Both Wu-Danber and TRE agrep are now
supported. The combination of the addition of TRE agrep and the ability to
set the approximate matching flags means that approximate matching with
full regular expressions is now supported. A test and palette entry were
added for Wu-Danber exact match notation.

[071] - ReleaseForge 0.8.1
  by Phil Schwartz (http://freshmeat.net/users/phil_schwartz/)
  Wed, Jun 15th 2005 07:16

About: ReleaseForge is a GUI application designed for project
administrators and release engineers of projects that are hosted at
SourceForge. It is intended to make it easier and faster to create a new
release and edit existing releases rather than using the SourceForge Web
interface. It streamlines the release effort by prompting you for
information regarding your new release (version info, change log, release
notes, files to include, etc). It then seamlessly negotiates with the
SourceForge Web server, creating your release, posting your release
notes/change log, uploading your files to the SourceForge FTP server,
selecting the files for inclusion in your release on the SourceForge Web
server, updating the file attributes of each of the files and then, if
appropriate, notifying monitoring users of the new release.

Changes: This version fixes some UI related bugs, including properly
setting the focus on the release name field, tab orderring issues in a
number of dialogs, and a fix for the limitation on the number of
characters in a SourceForge project news subject (was 30, now 60).
Additionally, the resize algorithm for the release wizard file table has
been reimplemented to address display problems.

About: System Configuration Collector (SCC) is yet another configuration
collector. It consists of a client and a server part. The client collects
configuration data in a structured snapshot, compares the new snapshot
with the previous one, and adds differences to a logbook. Then the
snapshot and the logbook are converted to HTML for local inspection.
Optionally, the data can be sent to a system running the server software.
On the server, summaries of the data are generated, and search/compare
operations on the snapshots and logbooks are available via a Web

About: WebGUI is a content management framework built to allow average
business users to build and maintain complex Web sites. It is modular,
pluggable, and platform independent. It was designed to allow the people
who create the content to manage it online, rather than content management
taking up the time of busy IT staff. WebGUI comes with a full discussion
forum with the functionality of phpBB or FUD Forum, plus events
calendaring, a photo gallery, a Web log (blog), FAQ and Link List
management, and a very configurable user privilege and profiling system.

Changes: This release fixes a couple of important bugs not fixed in the
last release. The create.sql script in the previous release was flawed.
Anyone creating a new site should create it with the create.sql script
that comes with this version.

About: Ember is a 3d client for the WorldForge project. It uses the Ogre

Changes: Wielded entities are now shown in the hands of the characters.
Support has been added for areas, such as ploughed fields or leaf covered
ground. Many new models have been added such as better trees, turnips,
carrots, a boat, a market stall etc. Many graphics systems optimizations
have been made, including removal of inefficient terrain rendering code.
Much better use is now made of fragment and vertex shaders.
