[001] - Asymptote 0.79
by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Printing
About: Asymptote is a powerful script-based vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. It is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program, allowing it to exploit the best
features of script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI)
methods. High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language
itself, allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: Types are now cached to speed up parsing. All outstanding garbage
collection issues were addressed. The autoscaling of scaled axes was fixed.
Another example of a secondary axis was added to the documentation. A
Pythagorean tree example illustrates picture transforms.

provided.

management features that make it easy to find and recover lost or damaged
files.
Changes: This release adds DVD writing/reading and contains some bugfixes
and new directives for volume handling.

team from one such league: you form the team, buy and sell players, get
promoted or relegated, and of course try to be successful.
Changes: This release adds some more keyboard shortcuts and fixes a bug in

[006] - ccbuild 0.4.0
by A. Bram Neijt (http://freshmeat.net/users/bmm/)
Sat, Jun 18th 2005 23:51
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: ccbuild is like a dynamic Makefile. ccbuild finds all programs in
the current directory (containing "int main") and compiles them. For this,
it reads the C++ sources and looks at all local and global includes. All
C++ files surrounding local includes are considered objects for the main
program. The global includes lead to extra compiler arguments using a
configuration file. ccbuild splits these arguments for compilation and
linking, keeping the linking arguments back for later use. It should allow
development without any scripting and only simple reusable configuration.
Real deployment/distribution should still be done with other tools. As an
added bonus, it can create simple Makefiles and graph dependencies using
DOT (graphviz) graphs.
Changes: New options include real-man, highlight, clearpc, append,
exec-on-pass, and exec-on-fail. Support for option repeats was added. New
commands include icmake and check. A simple Web page generation example
was added.

statistics on N-grams (useful for finding statistically significant
syntactical differences between any two sets of tagged texts), and various

System :: Installation/Setup
About: Karoshi is a point and click server setup for secondary schools
running Mandrake Linux on the servers and Windows 2000/XP on the clients.
It aims to allow a user who is not a Linux expert to get a server up and

a file server for students' work, a print server with Web-based queue
management, and a filtering and monitoring Internet proxy server.
Changes: A user called karoshi that lets you use the Karoshi management
tools without having to be logged in as root was added. All servers now
have an icon for changing the root password. A new simsstaff group was
added for sims users, which allows them to have a seperate desktop from
teaching staff. addnewuser was modified to prevent many groups from being
displayed. It now displays startyear+14 groups. A user can now be created
with a primary group called simsstaff. Checkdiskusage now checks the

Sat, Jun 18th 2005 12:18
Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion
About: kavi2svcd is a GUI for generating MPEG files from an AVI file
using transcode and mplex. It then generates a Video CD image using
vcdimager and burns to CD with cdrdao. It can generate m1v, m2v, and mpa
files, multiplex the MPEG file, generate cue and bin files, and allows
the generated command lines to be edited before executing them.
Changes: The configuration of video/audio encoders was separated from the
transcode tab, leaving only basic settings on the main transcode tab. The
configuration of the default DVD bitrate is now allowed. The third option
for -X and -B is now used. The PrefDialog was fixed. When chooseing the
input file, the duration will also be displayed. --use_rgb is used instead
of -V. The default is now -V, and --use_rgb should be used if you want the
old behavior. DVD was added to the basic mode. All external processes were
fixed by using KProcess, as the QProcess left running child processes.

About: myGifts lets people share their gift wish-lists on the Internet.
People can add gifts to their lists and claim other people's gifts, and
it supports user groups to control who can and cannot see lists.
Changes: This new release is able to manage xmas wish lists, but also gift
registries for weddings and newborns. Two major new features have been
added, namely the ability to add gifts ideas to other people's wish list,
and the ability to create users who have no wish list but can claim gifts.
This release also includes many UI tweaks and bugfixes.
