Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: NekoHTML is a simple HTML scanner and tag balancer that enables
Java application programmers to parse HTML documents and access the
information using standard XML interfaces. The parser can scan HTML files
and "fix up" many common mistakes that human (and computer) authors make
in writing HTML documents. NekoHTML is written using the Xerces Native
Interface (XNI) that is the foundation of the Xerces2 implementation. This
enables application programmers to use the NekoHTML parser with existing
XNI tools without modification or rewriting code.
Changes: A feature to allow a scanner to fix character entity references
for Microsoft Windows characters was added. The nekohtmlXni.jar file is no
longer built by default. Tag-balancing was changed to allow headers inside
of links. Handling of the blockquote tag, a tag-balancing bug for unknown
elements, the mapping of the encoding name in meta tags, various namespace
binding bugs, and a no-such-method exception when using the augmentations
feature with older versions of Xerces2 were fixed.

About: Ibid's Editor is an editor for xanalogical text. A xanalogical
system assigns identity to all text that is added to it as it is added.
For example, the word "cat" written here is different from the same word
written at some other time or by someone else. When the content is
manipulated inside the system, that identity is preserved. This pervasive
identity of all content is exploited by a xanalogical system to identify
reuse of content and to create deep, unbreakable links between two pieces

links with useful visualizations.

Sun, Jun 19th 2005 19:30
Internet
System :: Diagnostics
System :: Logging
About: ICPLD (Internet Connection Performance Logging Daemon) is a
connection monitor that sends ICMP requests to IP addresses of your choice
and monitors if your machine has a working network connection. It logs
failed attempts to reach the hosts, and will stamp a log as soon as a
reply is received. It keeps track of when and for how long the connection
was unavailable and records both total down time and each occasion of
interrupted connection. It supports IPv6 and can execute a command
whenever a connection goes up or down, which is useful for alerting users.
Changes: This release fixes a few minor bugs as well as NetBSD and
OpenBSD crashes. It also introduces two new options, -iface and -errfile.
-iface allows you to tell icpld which interface or source address to use
to send the ICMP signals. -errfile sets the path to which file icpld
should write verbose output concerning a failed ping attempt. Both
options are very useful for network troubleshooting.

[039] - J-Bird 0.4.5 alpha
by Dick Repasky (http://freshmeat.net/users/drepasky/)
Sun, Jun 19th 2005 08:51
About: J-Bird is a record keeping system for observations of birds. In the
parlance of birders, it is bird listing software. It is oriented toward
birding trips. Information recorded includes region, trip date, locality,
keywords, notes, species observed, and notes on individual species. It can
record sightings, produce trip reports, produce composite lists such as
life lists, tally observations by category, and query sightings. Regional
checklists can be built, used to record sightings, and be included in trip
reports. Sightings can be exported to CSV tables and HTML tables.
Changes: The master checklist builder has been converted to Java Swing
from an AWT interface. New data sources may be used for the master
checklist: Excel spreadsheets, HTML tables in Web pages, and any
relational database for which the user can provide Java drivers and an SQL
query. A new hierarchy is available for the tree of trips:
year/region/trip.

Information Management
Information Management :: Records Management
About: Magellan Metasearch is a modular meta search engine, enabling users
to monitor as many search engines as they want. It provides a complex query
language with standard boolean operators, meta-operators (to search through
pages' metadata), and proximity operators. This language enables users to
perform far more complex queries than what common search engines currently
support. It can be fed any custom sources, since its abstraction layer
manages the search results and their meta tags in a uniform way. In
conjunction with the local process scheduler (such as "cron"), Magellan
enables you to save your requests and replay them later automatically; new
results are sent through email and RSS in realtime. Magellan also provides
full anonymity through smart multi-proxy support.
Changes: Requests can be sorted in a hierarchical category system. Two
engine drivers have been added (Yahoo! News and Google News). Proxies are
automatically imported from any external data sources, and purged when
necessary. Firefox compatibility problems have been solved.

[073] - s11n 1.1.1 (Development)
by stephan beal (http://freshmeat.net/users/s11n/)
Sun, Jun 19th 2005 08:42
About: s11n ("serialization") is a C++ library for easily serializing a
wide variety of objects, including PODs, STL containers, and user-defined
Serializable types. It is completely data-format agnostic and currently
supports 7 data formats, including three XML dialects and one
MySQL-powered back-end. Its author, with atypical hubris, truly believes
s11n to be the most advanced, most flexible, simplest-to-use, and utterly
most powerful serialization framework ever implemented in C++.
Changes: This release fixes an endless loop which showed up during some
entity translation operations. A link-related bug in the factory layer
which caused factories from different compilation units to refer to
different factory maps was fixed. It also re-introduces s11nconvert and
one sample client application.

About: X-Plane is a flight simulator that reads in the geometric shape of
any aircraft and then figures out how that aircraft will fly. It does this
via an engineering process called "blade element theory", which involves
breaking the aircraft down into many small elements and then finding the
forces on each little element many times per second. These forces are then
converted into accelerations, which are then integrated to velocities and
positions. This gives X-Plane the most realistic flight model available

Internet
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
About: The Zero Install Injector makes it possible for users to install
software easily and without the need for root privileges. It takes the URL
of a program's interface description and chooses suitable versions of the
program and all of its dependencies (also identified by URLs) according to
the user's policy settings (eg. "stable", "testing", "minimal network use",
etc). The chosen versions are downloaded and cached and the program is run,
using environment variables to let it find the components.
Changes: Upgrading the GUI is now done by the GUI itself if possible.
This also prevents the problem where checking for updates to the GUI
couldn't be skipped easily. When checking for updates, it now updates all
interfaces at once so that the dialog is seen less often. As a short-cut,
the --gui option can be used without an argument to edit the policy for
the GUI itself.

[089] - ziproxy 1.4
by Juraj Variny (http://freshmeat.net/users/rini/)
Sun, Jun 19th 2005 04:04
Internet :: Proxy Servers
About: ziproxy is a forwarding (non-caching) proxy that gzips text and
HTML files, and reduces the size of images by converting them to low
quality JPEGs. It is intended to increase the speed for dial-up Internet
connections. Most browsers support gzipped content, so Web pages appear as
normal, but as they are only a fraction of their original page size, pages
are much quicker to load. Even for browsers that don't support it, hints
how to overcome it using SSH port forwarding are included. Images are
reduced in size by an average of one third, with only marginal visible
image quality loss. It should be used with inetd/xinetd, but if you can't
use them, a simple replacement "netd" is provided.
Changes: New options were added to the config file: ProcessJPG,
ProcessPNG, and ProcessGIF. An init script was added for convenience. An
RPM specfile was added. The example config file was improved. Random
crashes in the Ziproxy process were fixed. The "socket busy" bug was
fixed.
