Multimedia :: Graphics
Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: 2D/3D Vertical Bar Graph for PHP is a PHP script that provides a
very easy way to embed dynamically generated vertical bar graphs and
charts into PHP applications and HTML Web pages. The graphing software is
very easy to use and makes it possible to add professional quality real
time graphing to Web pages and applications within minutes.
Changes: New features in this release include automatic calculation of
graph properties, automatic calculation of the most appropriate graph
scale, enhanced bar shading for the bar drawing function, dual y-axis
capability, and automatic legend generation. Trend and target lines may
now be added to the graph image.

[002] - Access_user Class 1.81
by olaf (http://freshmeat.net/users/olaf2/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 21:54
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Access_user Class is an easy to use system for protecting pages and
registering users. The main features are user login, user registration,
page protection, forgotten password recovery, and email-based account
activation. The class is powered by MySQL and PHP sessions. Inside the
package are examples for all primary methods.
Changes: A function to use this class with manual account validation was
added. To handle these requests, a copy of the activation mail mail is
sent to the site admin. The admin_user.php file has been extended to
handle an activation status update. The following methods in the main
class were changed: send_mail(), activate_account(), messages(), and
check_email(). Notice the new variable in the login example.

[004] - Asterisk 1.0.8
by Alex Dusty (http://freshmeat.net/users/RealDusty/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 12:35
Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Asterisk is a hybrid TDM and packet voice PBX (Private Branch
eXchange) and IVR platform with ACD functionality. It acts as middleware
between the Internet (IAX, SIP, MGCP, Skinny, H.323), telephony channels
(like Zaptel, T1, PRI, E1, FXO, FXS, VoIP, VoFR, ISDN, modems, Internet
Phone Jack, etc.), and applications (like voice-mail, conferencing,
directories, MP3 players, intercoms, etc.). It has many advanced features
such as a codec translation API. The base distribution includes several
channel backends, as well as applications. However, the beauty of Asterisk
is its ability to be extended using its APIs, dynamic module loader, and
AGI scripting interface. End users can even write their own applications
that run on the system in C or any scripting language of their choice.
Changes: Major fixes in chan_zap, chan_sip, chan_mgcp, chan_alsa,
app_dial, app_disa, app_queue, rtp, say.c, Makefile, format_wav_gsm,
pbx_spool, logger, format_sln, and asterisk.conf.

[005] - Asymptote 0.81
by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 20:04
Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Printing
About: Asymptote is a powerful script-based vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. It is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program, allowing it to exploit the best
features of script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI)
methods. High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language
itself, allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: This release fixes a guide solver bug, allowing the construction
of graphs with a single data point. Compilation under g++-4.0.0 is now
supported.

[018] - Concurrent Hierarchical State Machine 4.1.1
by Paul J. Lucas (http://freshmeat.net/users/pjl/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 12:09
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: CHSM is a language system for specifying concurrent, hierarchical,
finite state machines (a realization of "statecharts") to model and
control reactive systems. It uses its own statechart specification
langauge annotated with either C++ or Java code fragments in the tradition
of yacc grammars with C code fragments. The generated code is fully
object-oriented allowing multiple state machines to exist concurrently.
The run-time library is small, efficient, and thread-safe. It has been
used successfully in production environments such as CERN for controlling
high-energy physics experiment equipment.
Changes: A typedef from what chsm2c++ emitted that was thought to have
been unused and removed was actually needed. hsm2c++ user-event parameter
emission has been fixed.

Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 19:46
Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries
About: FScript is an extremely simple scripting language. Its intended use
is as an embedded language in other Java programs. It is very simple to
embed; it can be as simple as sub-classing one class to add your own
functionality. However, it is not a complete programming language, as it
has no library of standard functions (such as IO and string processing).
FScript supplies base functionality (such as flow control, variable
handling, and basic math operations) that can extended by the host
application. The only requirement is a Java 2 runtime environment.

Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 12:04
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: gtkpod is a platform-independent GUI for Apple's iPod using GTK 2.
It allows you to import your existing iTunes database, add/delete
songs/playlists, edit ID3 tags, modify the iTunes database without having
the iPod connected, and synchronize at a later time. It also features
international charset support for ID3 tags, detects when adding already
existing songs, and more.
Changes: Support for a 'local database' containing tracks of the local
file system. Adding tracks to this database allows you to browse the local
hard disk by artist, genre, album, etc. Tracks and entire playlists can
than be dragged over to the iPod/Shuffle database. Using smart playlists
with a defined size in megabytes, the Shuffle can be filled effectively.
New export scripts (abook, Thunderbird, and Webcalendar) are included. The
entire iTunesDB I/O code has been rewritten to be more easily usable in
other projects. The code is completely self-contained (itdb*.[ch]) and can
easily be used in other projects.

[033] - GvTags 0.0.4
by tof (http://freshmeat.net/users/cvollrath/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 22:35
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: GvTags is a Groovy Tag library for Java ServerPages (JSP). It might
be for the Groovy programming language what the combination of JSTL and
Struts is for Java, or Smarty is for PHP. You get flexibility and agility
from scripting languages, powerful expression syntax from scripting
languages, a clear XML-based tag syntax, MVC pattern with optional
controller servlet, fast execution through dynamic compilation and
optimized execution in a JVM, and access to Java libraries and Java
technology since Groovy integrates well into Java (WebServices, J2EE,
etc.).
Changes: ActionServlet was added to implement MVC with a controller
servlet. New tags include log and debug. A new utility class,
gvtags.util.TreeWalker, was added for tree traversal. Error reporting and
exception handling were improved. Apache Jakarta Commons logging is used
for debug output. The packages and class names have been restructured.

Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 12:38
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: ProGuard is a free Java class file shrinker, optimizer, and
obfuscator. It can detect and remove unused classes, fields, methods, and
attributes. It can then optimize bytecode and remove unused instructions.
Finally, it can rename the remaining classes, fields, and methods using
short meaningless names. The resulting jars are more compact and more
difficult to reverse-engineer. Advantages of ProGuard compared to other
Java shrinkers and obfuscators are compact template-based configuration,
memory efficiency, and speed.
Changes: This release introduces a number of new bytecode optimizations in
the optimization step. The shrinking step has an option to get feedback on
the reasons for keeping given classes and class members. This version also
fixes a number of bugs that have been reported. Some important fixes affect
incremental obfuscation. A few aspects of the graphical and non-graphical
interfaces have been improved. Notably, all filenames and paths are now
interpreted relative to the configuration files in which they are
specified.

[064] - Sdictionary 1.0.3
by Alexey Semenov (http://freshmeat.net/users/swajj/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 05:40
About: PTkSdict is a dictionary using Sdict dictionary format. Unlike
ptkdic or gtkdic, MySQL isn't needed; you can work with dictionary files
directly. It uses Unicode, meaning that words and articles all are in
UTF-8. There are two index levels, compression, and tools to convert from
text files to .dct and vice versa.
Changes: The application icons were updated. Delete dialogs and a
selectable sort order menu were added to the Data application. Cosmetic
changes were made to the GUI. Installation tips were added to sdict.cgi.

[066] - Slony-I 1.1
by cbbrowne
acm.org (http://freshmeat.net/users/christopherbbrowne/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 14:17
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Slony-I is a "master to multiple slaves" replication system
supporting cascading and slave promotion. The big picture for the
development of Slony-I is as a master-slave system that includes all
features and capabilities needed to replicate large databases to a
reasonably limited number of slave systems. Reasonable, in this context,
is probably no more than a few dozen servers. If the number of servers
grows beyond that, the cost of communications becomes prohibitively high.
Changes: Greatly expanded documentation. Logs optionally include date
stamps. Slonik now supports define/include (similar to CPP) . Automatic
generation of "Listen Paths" (formerly an error-prone manual process).
slon daemons are greatly more configurable and can use config files. Log
shipping allows creating offline replicas. Numerous improvements to
automate maintenance. The build environment no longer requires a full
PostgreSQL source tree. Numerous bugfixes.

[067] - SpamProbe 1.2a
by Brian Burton (http://freshmeat.net/users/bburton/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 12:54
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: SpamProbe is a spam detection program that uses a Bayesian analysis
of the frequencies of terms used in the email. Because it filters email
based on content rather than on general rules, it easily adapts itself to
the types of email that each individual user normally receives.
Changes: This release fixes a bug in the -8 command line option that
caused 8 bit characters to be treated as word boundaries.

[068] - SQuaLe 0.1.5
by Julien MOUTTE (http://freshmeat.net/users/jmoutte/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 07:36
Database
About: SQuaLe provides an easy and very fast way to send SQL queries to a
database backend. It supports load balancing over multiple connections
which can be on different servers. It's very stable and provides
statistics, control, and reporting through specific orders (like starting
up a connection pool, shutting it down, getting statistics from that
specific pool or for the whole SQuaLe instance).
Changes: A new communication system between the main thread and database
workers has been implemented. This improvement drastically reduces the
assignation time of jobs to the workers from several milliseconds to
almost zero milliseconds. This is a major improvement, so upgrade is
recommended.

[069] - SurrealServices 0.3.5.1 (Stable)
by tabris (http://freshmeat.net/users/tabrisnet/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 14:16
Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
About: SurrealServices is a full replacement
NickServ/ChanServ/MemoServ/OperServ. Features are loosely based on Anope
and ConferenceRoom/Auspice, as well as NeoStats. Some security features
are also available such as a TOR detector/banner, and a country detector
(checks IP allocation). It is multithreaded to eliminate lag due to the
asynchronous nature of MySQL and DNS lookups. Plans include a C version
and possibly a conversion to PostgreSQL, depending on demand from users.
Changes: This is only a security release. get_best_acc and get_acc have
been fixed to check for frozen/closed/drone channels. This bug allowed a
closed channel to be dropped by the original founder and subsequently
re-registered. Close support is going to be rewritten to make it easier to
use and non-reversible.

[070] - Sylpheed 2.0.0beta3 (Development)
by Hiroyuki Yamamoto (http://freshmeat.net/users/hiroy/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 05:26
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
About: Sylpheed is a GTK+ based, lightweight, and fast email client.
Almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard. It also has many
features such as multiple accounts, POP3/APOP support, thread display, and
multipart MIME. One of Sylpheed's future goals is to be fully
internationalized. The messages are managed in the MH format, so you'll be
able to use it together with another mailer that uses the MH format.
Changes: The strict checking of the integrity of summary caches was
disabled by default, and the performance of displaying a summary was
improved. The columns of the summary view may be reordered by drag and
drop. An option to execute a command when new messages arrive was added.
"Compose new message", "Add to address book", and "Open with Web browser"
were added to the context menu of the text view. Encryption is enabled by
default when replying to encrypted messages. Other bugfixes were made.

by mangoo (http://freshmeat.net/users/mangoo/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 01:05
System :: Software Distribution
System :: Software Distribution Tools
System :: Systems Administration
About: WPKG is a Samba add-on that will help distribute software to many
clients. You can easily deploy software, packages, and changes without the
need for doing this manually (going from one workstation to another). You
simply configure the software that should be installed on a given machine
or a group of machines, and next time these workstations are booted, the
software you specified is installed automatically.
Changes: It is now possible to execute scripts and programs once using
'package execute="once"', which is useful for one-off tasks such as disk
defragmentation, testing, and changing printers. Hostname case is now
ignored. New /debug and /verbose flags that print everything the program
does were added. This is useful for packet installation debugging and for
new users who want to understand how the program works. A /dryrun flag
that "simulates" packet installing was also added.

[086] - Zinc 3.3.2
by mertz (http://freshmeat.net/users/mertz/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 14:20
About: Zinc is a Tk widget developed with Perl/Tk, Tcl/Tk and Python/Tk
bindings. Zinc widgets are very similar to Tk canvases in that they
support structured graphics. Graphical items can be manipulated, and
bindings can be associated with them to implement interaction behaviors.
But unlike the canvas, zinc can structure the items in a hierarchy, and
has support for affine 2D transforms. Clipping can be set for sub-trees of
the item hierarchy and the item set is quite more powerful, including
field-specific items for Air Traffic systems. Zinc is fast enough to allow
the implementation of 2k2k radar displays with smooth animations. It is
structured enough to allow the implementation of direct manipulation
desktop GUIs.
Changes: This release provides an updated Python binding and a new C++
library binding. The Windows version has an installer package for Active
Tcl/Perl/Python. Other than that, this version is mainly for bugfixes (and
some memory leak fixes). The Windows port is getting more mature. Since
previous release, a wiki, CVS, and Bugzilla have been set up.

[087] - ZoneMinder 1.21.2
by Philip Coombes (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcoombes/)
Thu, Jun 23rd 2005 07:07
Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video :: Display
About: ZoneMinder is a suite of applications intended for use in video
camera security applications, including theft prevention and child or
family member monitoring. It supports capture, analysis, recording, and
monitoring of video data coming from one or more video or network cameras
attached to a Linux system. It also features a user-friendly Web interface
which allows viewing, archival, review, and deletion of images and movies
captured by the cameras. The image analysis system is highly configurable,
permitting retention of specific events, while eliminating false positives.
ZoneMinder supports both directly connected and network cameras and is
built around the definition of a set of individual 'zones' of varying
sensitivity and functionality for each camera. This allows the elimination
of regions which should be ignored or the definition of areas which will
alarm if various thresholds are exceeded in conjunction with other zones.
All management, control, and other functions are supported through the Web
interface.
Changes: This release addresses a number of issues that have been found in
1.21.1. These are mostly minor, but a couple are more significant, so
upgrading to this release is recommended.
