[001] - /etc/net Scripts 0.7.6
  by Pilot (http://freshmeat.net/users/infrastation/)
  Fri, Jun 24th 2005 19:37

System :: Boot :: Init
System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable device support, full iproute2 command
set support, interface dependency resolution, and a QoS configuration
framework. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
Ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv6/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
Ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, PentNET, usbnet, and
PPP. Due to its modular design, support for new interface types can be
added without overall design changes.

Changes: This release adds fixes for comments, a new example, bridge
fixes, a network.init patch, options.d, an enhanced style, a resolver
postinstall command, DHCP_HOSTNAME, and a change to the default
ifplugstatus location.

[003] - Anyterm 1.1.3 (Development)
  by Phil Endecott (http://freshmeat.net/users/endecotp/)
  Fri, Jun 24th 2005 03:51

Communications :: WAP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: Anyterm provides a terminal emulator on a Web page using Javascript
and an Apache module. The module forks a shell and communicates with the
script using XMLHTTP on port 80, or securely using SSL. This provides you
with shell access to your machine from almost any Web browser, even when
firewalls are in the way. Experimental support for WAP browsers is
included, and the my.anyterm.org service provides access without the need
to install anything on your servers.

Changes: This release fixes a couple of build problems reported in 1.1.2.
There is also a new demo on the Web page.

[004] - BashDiff 1.20
  by William Park (http://freshmeat.net/users/opengeometry/)
  Fri, Jun 24th 2005 16:40

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Shells

About: Bash.Diff is a patch against Bash that incorporates many useful
features from Awk, Python, Zsh, Ksh, and others. In the main core, it adds
the following: new brace expansion {a..b}, new parameter expansion
${var|...}, new command substitution $(=...), extended for, while, and
until loops, extended case statement, new try-block with integer
exception, and new here document <&lt+. As builtin commands, it adds the
following: sscanf(3), <string.h>, and <ctype.h> wrappers, a variety of
array and regex(3) operations, GDBM, SQLite, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
database interfaces, an HTML template engine (BASP), stack/queue
operations on positional parameters and arrays, Expat XML parser
interface, simple x-y character plot, DOS line support, and simple Awk
emulation.

Changes: This release increases file read buffer size to BUFSIZ instead of
default 128. CSV support within Awk emulation was put off until this
release, because real Awk doesn't support CSV either. ${var|key} is added
to emulate associative lookup, using linear key/value pairs.
${var|.htmlquote} and ${var|.urldequote} are added to help CGI scripts.
The options -[Ddui] are added to the 'pp_uniq' builtin, comparable to
options for the 'uniq' command. Finally, internal code for 'pp_*' was
cleaned up for future additions.

[007] - ccbuild 0.6.0
  by A. Bram Neijt (http://freshmeat.net/users/bmm/)
  Fri, Jun 24th 2005 14:19

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: ccbuild is like a dynamic Makefile. ccbuild finds all programs in
the current directory (containing "int main") and compiles them. For this,
it reads the C++ sources and looks at all local and global includes. All
C++ files surrounding local includes are considered objects for the main
program. The global includes lead to extra compiler arguments using a
configuration file. ccbuild splits these arguments for compilation and
linking, keeping the linking arguments back for later use. It should allow
development without any scripting and only simple reusable configuration.
Real deployment/distribution should still be done with other tools. As an
added bonus, it can create simple Makefiles and graph dependencies using
DOT (graphviz) graphs.

Changes: This release adds the -I option to add local search paths.
distclean no longer calls cleanAll. Code cleanup. Speed-ups for global
header handling and resolution. An experimental --loop option and the
resolve command have been added.

[015] - CyberTester 0.7.0
  by Alexander Yap (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexycyap/)
  Fri, Jun 24th 2005 03:27

Education :: Testing

About: CyberTester is a Web-based application that was originally designed
to allow educators to create tests, exams, and assignments consisting of
multiple-choice questions and assign them to students for online testing.
Students can login to take these tests and review their results. It is
suitable for integrating into online education services. It uses J2EE
(with EJB 2.0) and runs on JBoss.

Changes: This version allows Question instances to be "cloned" when they
are assigned to a Test, so that the original Question instances can be
assigned to other Tests. This allows a Question to be reused across
multiple Tests. Questions are grouped under hierarchy nodes in the same
way as Tests, so that the user won't be overwhelmed by the entire database
of Questions when trying to associate Questions to a Test. Various
JavaScript bugs were fixed. CyberTester has been upgraded to use JBoss
4.0.x and Struts 1.2.

  Fri, Jun 24th 2005 03:34

Communications
Internet

About: EchoServer is a packet relay server that connects echoWare enabled
applications together across the Internet, regardless of intervening
firewalls or NAT routers. Current echoWare-enabled applications include
Kaboodle, a LAN management and LAN-to-LAN connectivity tool for Windows,

  by Sebastiano Vigna (http://freshmeat.net/users/vigna/)
  Fri, Jun 24th 2005 16:47

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: fastutil extends the Java Collections Framework by providing
type-specific maps, sets, lists, and queues for Java with a small memory
footprint and fast access and insertion; it also includes a fast I/O API
for binary and text files. The classes implement their standard
counterpart interfaces (e.g., Map for maps) and can be plugged into
existing code. Besides the usual features, fastutil provides
reference-based containers (which do not use equals() to compare objects)
and linked structures. Most iterators provided by fastutil classes are
bidirectional, or even implement the standard list iterator interface.

Changes: FastBufferedInputStream now sports a reset() method that
invalidates the buffer, making it possible to read more reliably files
written by other streams.

Internet
Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Frankenwall is a bash shell script intended to create a highly
secure IPTables based Linux firewall/router with QOS/traffic
shaping/bandwidth management. Be certain you know exactly what your
network needs before using it. The primary focus of this project is
security through an intimate understanding of your networking
requirements. All configuration is done by editing text files.

Changes: The broadcast blocking code has been moved higher in the chain,
so it will actually get a chance to block broadcasts. The primary
configuration directory has been moved from /etc/firewall.d to
/etc/frankenwall.d. install.sh will detect the old configurations, and do
this automatically. This was done to avoid conflicts with other packages
that may try to use the firewall.d directory.

[025] - gcx 0.9.1
  by Radu Corlan (http://freshmeat.net/users/rcorlan/)
  Fri, Jun 24th 2005 19:34

Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy

About: GCX provides a complete set of data-reduction functions for CCD
photometry, with frame WCS fitting, automatic target identification,
aperture photometry of target and standard stars, single-frame ensemble
photometry data reduction, multi-frame color coefficient fitting,
extinction coefficient fitting, and all-sky photometry. It also controls
CCD cameras and telescopes, and implements automatic observation
scripting. Cameras are controlled through a hardware-specific server, to
which gcx connects through a TCP socket. The program can control
telescopes which use the LX200 protocol, and refine pointing by matching
images to the GSC catalog position of stars. It generates FITS files with
comprehensive header information.

Changes: This release has improved telescope control, no longer requiring
a compile option to select the mount type. An option to display negative
images has been added. The program can query online catalogs from the CDS
(GSC-ACT, GSC2, UCAC2, and USNO-B). Star position calculations can
optionally include refraction. Plate solving code has been reorganized to
make it easy to add more complex plate models.

[028] - gnormalize 0.31
  by Claudio F. S. Rodrigues (http://freshmeat.net/users/claudiofsr/)
  Fri, Jun 24th 2005 16:47

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: gnormalize is a front end to the "normalize" tool, a ripper, an
encoder, and an audio converter. It decodes MP3, MP4 (or M4A or AAC), MPC
(or MPP or MP+), OGG, APE, or FLAC files to wave, then normalizes the wave
and re-encodes it. It can also rip audio CDs, encode audio data, convert
audio formats between MP3, MP4, MPC, OGG, APE, and FLAC, and change the
encoding properties and edit Meta Info (like title, artist, album, etc.)
of the final normalized files.

Changes: This release adds new icons for the notebook, filesize in the
technical information (metainfo), and some bugfixes. It removes the
ogginfo dependence, using new internal subroutines. The minimum required
METAFLAC version is now 1.1.1 (the new version changed the command
--set-vc-field to --set-tag).

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Oliver (formerly "WebShare") is a PHP-based FTP front-end, released
under the GPL. It allows people to access files normally only available via
FTP, effectively providing users with a complete Web-based file management
system that, if SSL is enabled on the Web server, uses a single secure
connection. This makes it far simpler to use through a firewall. At
present, Oliver has only been tested with ProFTPd and PureFTPd but it
should work with many others.

Changes: This release adds Czech, Bulgarian, and Japanese translations.
Syslog or flat file logging of logins has been added. Files now have
"direct links" associated with them. These are simple URLs that reference
the file directly and may be distributed to valid users, for example as a
link in an email. HTTP authentication is used to validate the users in
this case. To aid upgrading, a simple Perl script, updateconf.pl, has been
including that helps to migrate config settings.

[076] - xajax 0.1 beta2

  Fri, Jun 24th 2005 17:43

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: xajax is a PHP class library for easily creating powerful PHP-
driven, Web-based AJAX applications. Developers can use the library to
asynchronously call PHP functions and update the content of your a
Webpage without reloading the page. It is designed to be easy to
implement. To keep the presentation markup relatively clean and avoid
having to create a lot of JavaScript functions to update the Web content,
it allows you to control a great deal of the content through XML responses
from PHP functions.

Changes: This release fixes a few bugs in RequestURI detection so that it
should work on secure servers and ports other than 80. It should also work
on servers with PHP short tags turned off. A bug that prevented it from
working properly when the server script was different from the client
script has been fixed, and there is a new example that shows how to use it
with separate client and server scripts.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: Yaws is a WWW technology with capabilities similar to the

dynamic pages than other similar technologies.

Changes: This release adds several new features such as the ability to
have several docroots for a given virtual host, the concept of a redirect
map to redirect an entire part of the docroot to another site, and initial
WebDAV support. This release also fixes a security bug that allowed an
attacker to get the code source of a page by sending a null character at
the end of the request.
