Games/Entertainment
Multimedia :: Graphics
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Allegro is a multi-platform game library for C/C++ developers that
provides many functions for graphics, sounds, player input (keyboard,
mouse, and joystick), and timers. It also provides fixed and floating
point mathematical functions, 3D functions, file management functions,
compressed datafile, and a GUI.
Changes: The grabber tool now plays nicer as a windowed application.
Compilation problems related to get_modex_screen() on UNIX were fixed and
it was deprecated. Problems for the assembler code with newer binutils
were fixed. An arbitrary limit and memory leak in get_config_argv() and a
problem in allegro.m4 and automake 1.8+ were fixed. The "256 items" limit
was removed from the dat utility. Some crashes with the keyboard driver
under Solaris, a bug where the hardware mouse wasn't displayed in Windows
until the mouse was moved, rest_callback() under UNIX, and
get_executable_name() under Solaris and OpenBSD were fixed.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Back-End is a multilingual Web publishing/content management
system. Articles, links, and photo galleries can use a common hierarchy,
with the look and feel defined using templates. Content administrators
manage the content of the Web site through a browser based editor as text,
HTML, Wiki, or using a WYSIWYG editor. Add-on modules include on-line
advocacy tools and a bibliography.
Changes: Localization was increased. User-defined comment thresholds and
other SlashDot-style comment features were added. The template/skinning
system was greatly simplified. Logging of search terms and error pages was
introduced. User-access can now be controlled on a per-section basis. A CMS
designed with mulitlingual objects was added to allow users to view your
content in the language of their choice. The enhanced user interface is
template based, so it is highly configurable, but is also designed for
CSS/XHTML compliance.

[012] - ccbuild 0.7.0
by A. Bram Neijt (http://freshmeat.net/users/bmm/)
Mon, Jun 27th 2005 16:31
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: ccbuild is like a dynamic Makefile. ccbuild finds all programs in
the current directory (containing "int main") and compiles them. For this,
it reads the C++ sources and looks at all local and global includes. All
C++ files surrounding local includes are considered objects for the main
program. The global includes lead to extra compiler arguments using a
configuration file. ccbuild splits these arguments for compilation and
linking, keeping the linking arguments back for later use. It should allow
development without any scripting and only simple reusable configuration.
Real deployment/distribution should still be done with other tools. As an
added bonus, it can create simple Makefiles and graph dependencies using
DOT (graphviz) graphs.
Changes: The loop option is no longer experimental. There is a bugfix for
resolution loading. Precompiled headers are removed if not precompiling.
The first line of ccResolutions allows for static extra arguments to
ccbuild. The Makefile includes a distclean rule and precompilation of
internal header files.

[014] - CharGer 3.4b2
by Harry Delugach (http://freshmeat.net/users/delugach/)
Mon, Jun 27th 2005 10:25
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
About: CharGer is a conceptual graph editor intended to support research
projects and education. It currently is primarily an editor to create
visual displays of graphs. It is deliberately and explicitly a research
tool meant for conceptual graph researchers to explore implementation
issues in conceptual graph interfaces. Using the software will require
some familiarity with conceptual graphs, including knowing about concepts
and relations, type hierarchies, and type/referent pairs. Knowing about
actors will also be very helpful.
Changes: CharGer has been donated to the open source community. This
release represents an effort over the past six years. In addition to
conceptual graph editing, CharGer supports an interface to Wordnet, a
repertory grid interface, and a plug-in actor interface.

Mon, Jun 27th 2005 01:27
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: CodeWorker is a versatile parsing tool and a universal source code
generator. It interprets a scripting language for producing reusable,
tailor-made, evolving, and reliable IT systems with a high level of
automation. The file formats to parse are described in an extended-BNF
syntax. Template-based scripts drive the writing of patterns for
generating code or text. The code generation knows how to preserve
protected areas with hand-typed code and provides code expansion,
source-to-source translation, and program transformation. It provides a
native translation of CodeWorker's scripts in C++.
Changes: A debugger session now accepts conditional breakpoints and
handles watchpoints on variables, conditional or otherwise. These new
features are very efficient for accelerating debugging. Conditions conform
to the syntax of usual CodeWorker expressions. When a break/watchpoint is
activated, a block of instructions can be executed. The block is a piece
of CodeWorker script.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Fundanemt is built upon the philosophy that communication is what
drives the development and maintenance of a Web site and not the technical
backend. Simplicity, safety, and a fast learning curve are achieved with
the user interface of the program, which is designed to look and feel like
common desktop applications. This helps the user to immediately feel at
home when seeing something recognizable.
Changes: Multiple frontend languages are supported, it is now possible to
administer a Web site in multiple languages. Advanced graphics editing was
implemented. An image may be uploaded directly from a camera and then
rotated, cropped, and resized. Modules no longer need to be inserted as
PHP code, and most modules now come with an easy to use module insertion.

to not depend on specific layouts.
Changes: The font on the introduction dialog is the same as on the tutor
text box. The same applies to the help and about dialogs, because they use
the same interface (dialog_info). The confirmation dialogs now also share

[049] - MoSSHe 1.3.7
by Volker Tanger (http://freshmeat.net/users/vtanger/)
Mon, Jun 27th 2005 01:08
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: MoSSHe (MOnitoring with SSH Environment) is a simple, lightweight
(both in size and system requirements) server monitoring package designed
for secure and in-depth monitoring of a number of typical Internet
systems. It was developed to keep the impact on network and performance
low, and to use a safe, encrypted connection for in-depth inspection of
the system checked. It is not possible to remotely run (more or less
arbitrary) commands via the monitoring system, nor is unsafe cleartext
SNMP messaging necessary (yet possible). A read-only Web interface makes
monitoring and status checks simple (and safe) for admins and helpdesk.
Checking scripts are included for remote services (DNS, HTTP, IMAP2,
IMAP3, POP3, samba, SMTP, and SNMP) and local systems (disk space, load,
CPU temperature, fan speed, free memory, print queue size and activity,
processes, RAID status, and shells).

[059] - pam_pwcheck 3.0
by Thorsten Kukuk (http://freshmeat.net/users/kukuk/)
Mon, Jun 27th 2005 09:15
About: The pam_pwcheck is a PAM module for password strength checking. It
makes additional checks upon password changes, but it doesn't make the
change itself. It only provides functionality for one PAM management
group: password changing. This module works in the following manner: if
enabled it calls at first the Cracklib routine to check the strength of
the password; if crack likes the password, the module does an additional
set of strength checks.
Changes: This release contains a lot of bugfixes and support for
localization.

[060] - PhotoGallery 20050627
by Souken Group, LLC (http://freshmeat.net/users/souken/)
Mon, Jun 27th 2005 23:54
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
About: PhotoGallery is simple and easy to use image gallery software that
automatically generates image thumbnails. It is written in PHP and uses
Smarty for display and GD2 for image manipulation. It is small and simple,
and can be easily integrated into existing Web sites and software. Language
files allow users to easily add localized text, which is automatically
selected by PhotoGallery on a per-hit basis based on Web browser headers.
Changes: EXIF timestamps will be shown if they are found. EXIF timestamps
replace or are shown above file timestamps, depending on the situation.
PhotoGallery will now only show the minimum number of table columns
necessary to show all thumbnails. No more empty table cells. A new option,
path, has been added to aid in embedding PhotoGallery in other PHP pages.
Use path to alter the "href" and "src" properties of some tags. This
reduces the number of modifications necessary when embedding without
installing PhotoGallery directly next to the embedding page.

by Paolo Lucente (http://freshmeat.net/users/plucente/)
Mon, Jun 27th 2005 15:07
Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: pmacct is a small set of IPv4/IPv6 accounting and aggregation
tools. Aggregation of IP traffic revolves around the concept of
primitives (VLAN id, source and destination MAC addresses, IP addresses,
networks, AS numbers, ports, ToS field, and IP protocol are supported)
that may be employed alone or arbitrarily combined with others to form
complex aggregation methods. It supports custom historical breakdown,
packet sampling, filtering and tagging, recovery actions, and triggers.
Both libpcap (and promiscuous mode if required) and NetFlow
v1/v5/v7/v8/v9 are supported.
Changes: Support for IPv4/IPv6 flows has been added into pmacctd, along
with a new 'sum_mac' aggregation method. Three new configuration
directives have been introduced: pmacctd_frag_buffer_size and
pmacctd_flow_buffer_size to set an upper bound to the growth of the
fragment and flow buffers; pmacctd_flow_lifetime is aimed to define how
long a flow could remain inactive before being considered expired. Error
messages have been greatly enhanced, and various bugs have been fixed.

[072] - Ragel State Machine Compiler 4.1
by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
Mon, Jun 27th 2005 00:45
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: Ragel compiles finite state machines from regular languages into
C/C++/Objective-C code. It allows the programmer to embed actions at any
point in a regular language and to control non-determinism in the
resulting machines. It understands concatenation, union, kleene star,
subtraction, intersection, epsilon transitions, and various other common
operators. Through the use of labels and epsilon transitions, Ragel
supports the building of state machines using a named state and associated
transition list paradigm. Its finite state machines are closed under all of
its operators. This property allows for arbitrary regular languages to be
described. It can be used to create a parser for any language that is
regular.
Changes: A bug in include processing was fixed and the program was changed
to remove duplicates of embedded actions. The character-level negation
operator, ^, was added. The use of + for specifying a positive literal
number was discontinued. The parser was modified to assign a higher
priority to subtraction than to negative literal numbers.

[076] - RTL-check 0.1.2
by tootix (http://freshmeat.net/users/tootix/)
Mon, Jun 27th 2005 23:48
Software Development
About: RTL-check is a framework for static analysis of programs from a
safety and security perspective. It performs analysis on RTL, which is the
low-level intermediate representation generated by GCC. This framework was
created for a research project that deals with static analysis and memory
safety of programs developed in unsafe languages such as C or C++. In
particular, it is targeted at detecting buffer overflows statically and
proving their absence. However, this framework should be useful for other
projects dealing with static analysis.
Changes: The analysis framework was improved: the relations between
solvers, policies, interpreters, and analyses are better defined. The
implementation of liveness analysis has been improved, and it more closely
follows the theorical definition of a monotone framework. An important flaw
in solvers has been fixed.

About: Solipsis is a pure peer-to-peer system for a massively shared

[082] - Studs MVC Framework+ 0.9.6

Mon, Jun 27th 2005 11:24
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Studs MVC Framework+ contains a port of Apache's Jakarta Struts to
PHP, though the libraries included in the rest of the project are much
more vast. In order to implement the Struts port, it was necessary to
build a core, object-oriented API in the style of the JDK and the Jakarta
Commons, a servlet container to handle HTTP requests and to invoke
servlet classes, and finally, a parsing engine for JSP-style template
pages. In the end, the result is an environment which is very similar to
that provided by a J2EE Web Container, only everything is implemented in
PHP. While it was possible to carry over many of the concepts, designs
and mechanisms from J2EE, some limitations do exist due to the nature of
the PHP programming language, such as the lack of checked exceptions
(runtime only).
Changes: This release adds full support for PHP5, though new E_STRICT
level errors are ignored. A new template tag library was added based on
the Struts equivalent. The Golflog demo application was enhanced to delete
players, courses, and rounds. Various other bugfixes and enhancements.

by Kurt Garloff (http://freshmeat.net/users/garloff/)
Mon, Jun 27th 2005 02:06
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: TBCI is a C++ library which provides classes for Vectors, Matrices,
etc., and defines operations on them such as additions, multiplications,
etc. There are many Matrix classes providing specializations for different
sparse matrices. They all feature a similar interface. TBCI comes with an
extensive set of solvers for linear systems and an interface to lapack
libraries. It uses the temporary base class idiom, which avoids
unnecessary copying of data by having a notion of real and temporary
objects which are treated differently with respect to assignment and copy
c'tor.
Changes: A bug in TSMatrix::operator *([T]Matrix) for non-quadratic
matrices was fixed. An implementation of the caching memory allocator that
does not need virtual members, thus resulting in a minor performance
increase was added. auto_decl now deals with specializations better and
compiles with pre-C99 compilers.
