[001] - /etc/net Configurator 0.0.4
by Pilot (http://freshmeat.net/users/infrastation/)
Tue, Jun 28th 2005 07:26
System :: Boot :: Init
System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration
About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable device support, full iproute2 command
set support, interface dependency resolution, and a QoS configuration
framework. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
Ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv6/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
Ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, Pent
NET, usbnet, and
PPP. Due to its modular design, support for new interface types can be
added without overall design changes.
Changes: A broken build caused by a new version of pkgconfig was fixed.

[003] - Access_user Class 1.82
by olaf (http://freshmeat.net/users/olaf2/)
Tue, Jun 28th 2005 15:33
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Access_user Class is an easy to use system for protecting pages and
registering users. The main features are user login, user registration,
page protection, forgotten password recovery, and email-based account
activation. The class is powered by MySQL and PHP sessions. Inside the
package are examples for all primary methods.
Changes: In this version, the activation and notification functions are
more optimized. The sendmail() method can handle more different mail jobs,
and the activate_account() method will use the new method
send_confirmation() to inform the user by mail. There are also some
inprovements for the user admin function. The class will no longer send an
email copy to the admin; from now on, a new email is send while using the
account_activation() method. Notice the new variables inside the db_config
file and the modified admin_user.php file.

[006] - Another File Integrity Checker 2.8-1
by Gerbier Eric (http://freshmeat.net/users/gerbier/)
Tue, Jun 28th 2005 07:05
Security
System :: Systems Administration
About: afick is another file integrity checker, designed to be fast and
fully portable between Unix and Windows platforms. It works by first
creating a database that represents a snapshot of the most essential parts
of your computer system. You can then run the script to discover all
modifications made since the snapshot was taken (i.e. files added,
changed, or removed). The configuration syntax is very close to that of
aide or tripwire, and a graphical interface is provided.
Changes: Warnings were added for abnormal behavior such as init on an
existing database or directive changes between two calls.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: Apache is the world's most popular HTTP server, being quite
possibly the best around in terms of functionality, efficiency, security
and speed.
Changes: This release addresses a security vulnerability present in all
previous 2.x versions. If a response contains both Transfer-Encoding and a
Content-Length, Apache now removes the Content-Length to eliminate an HTTP
request smuggling vulnerability and doesn't reuse the connection, stopping
some HTTP request spoofing attacks.

Text Processing :: Filters
About: DSPAM is a server-side statistical anti-spam agent for Unix email
servers. It masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent and
effectively filters spam using a combination of de-obfuscation techniques,
specialized algorithms, and statistical analysis. The result is an
administratively maintenance-free, self-learning anti-spam tool. DSPAM has
yielded real-world success rates beyond 99.9% accuracy with less than a
0.01% chance of false positives.
Changes: Preliminary LDAP support has been added, allowing an LDAP server
to verify the existence of users prior to processing. A socket descriptor
leak (on delivery connect failure) has been fixed. SMTP/LMTP delivery now
accepts all 2xx delivery responses (instead of just 250) to avoid problems
with DBmail. Additional work on the CRM114 Sparse Spectra driver has been
made.

Tue, Jun 28th 2005 22:08
About: FreeNX is an implementation of a NoMachine/NX-compatible terminal
server. It makes use of NoMachine's NX command line tools more convenient
and less error prone.
Changes: Fixes were made for unauthorized access to the session database,
problems with file sharing over the Internet, and failure to resume the
session for Windows clients in non-fullscreen mode. Support for new
features of the upcoming NoMachine NX 1.5.0 release was added. For
instance, rootless nxagent adds roundtrip suppression to single
application window sessions, resulting in major speed gains. Seamless
resizing is done with mouse-dragging of window borders. A keyboard

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering
About: JGraph is a robust and complete graph component that is better than
many of its commercial competitors. With the JGraph zoomable component, you
can display objects and relations (networks) in any Swing UI. It can also
be used on the server-side to read an GXL graph, apply a custom layout
algorithm, and return the result as an SVG image.
Changes: Many improvements have been made to the expand and collapse
functionality. When a group is collapsed, edges connecting to now-hidden
vertices visually attach to the perimeter point of the first visible
parent group. Expanding the group shows the true state of connections

Tue, Jun 28th 2005 15:14
System
System :: Archiving
About: The file renaming utilities (renameutils for short) are a set of
programs designed to make renaming of files faster and less cumbersome.
qmv ("quick move") allows file names to be edited in a text editor. The
names of all files in a directory are written to a text file, which is
then edited by the user. The text file is read and parsed, and the changes
are applied to the files. qcp copies files instead of renaming them. imv
("interactive move"), is trivial but useful when you are too lazy to type
(or even complete) the name of the file to rename twice. It allows a file
name to be edited in the terminal using the GNU Readline library.
Similarly, icp copies files instead of renaming them.

[059] - s11n 1.1.2 (Development)
by stephan beal (http://freshmeat.net/users/s11n/)
Tue, Jun 28th 2005 15:43
About: s11n ("serialization") is a C++ library for easily serializing a
wide variety of objects, including PODs, STL containers, and user-defined
Serializable types. It is completely data-format agnostic and currently
supports 7 data formats, including three XML dialects and one
MySQL-powered back-end. Its author, with atypical hubris, truly believes
s11n to be the most advanced, most flexible, simplest-to-use, and utterly
most powerful serialization framework ever implemented in C++.
Changes: A compile error when promoting chars to first-class Serializables
has been fixed. Several API changes in s11nlite::client_api<>. Clients can
now replace the internals of s11nlite with their own back-end. This will
allow, e.g., adding network support to s11nlite without having to
recompile any s11nlite clients. Several deprecated functions were removed.
Plugins (DLL) support has come back, but is optional and uses a different
back-end than before. Several updates to the manual (now 91 PDF pages).

[060] - Shadow 4.0.10
by kloczek (http://freshmeat.net/users/kloczel/)
Tue, Jun 28th 2005 10:50
System :: Systems Administration
About: The Shadow password file utilities package includes the programs
necessary to convert traditional V7 UNIX password files to the SVR4 shadow
password format, and additional tools to maintain password and group files
(that work with both shadow and non-shadow passwords).
Changes: The mkpasswd code has been removed. userdel now deletes user
groups from /etc/gshdow as well as /etc/group. When relocating a user's
home directory, usermod will not fail and remove the new home directory if
it can't remove the old home directory for some reason. The PAM session
needs to be closed as root, thus before change_uid(). The use of SHADOWPWD
#define has been removed, so now shadow is always built with shadow
password support. Most of the man pages are now generated from XML files.

[070] - Tstat 1.0
by Marco Mellia (http://freshmeat.net/users/mellia/)
Tue, Jun 28th 2005 05:03
Internet
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: Tstat provides information about classic and novel performance
indexes and statistical data about Internet traffic. It collects
measurement indexes at both the network (IP) layer and transport (TCP/UDP)
layer. Real time protocols (RTP/RTCP) are also analyzed, allowing you to
get statistical measurements on VOIP traffic, for example. Tstat analyzes
either real-time captured packet traces, or previously recorded
packet-level traces in various dump formats.
Changes: The most important new features are integration with RRDtool,
live analysis with libpcap and a DAG interface, and multiple threads to
support live analysis on high-speed links. New measurement indexes include
TCP out-of-sequence and duplicate classification, RTP/RTCP flow analysis,
UDP flow analysis, and other changes and tune-up. The code was updated to
TCPTrace version 6.6.x. Many bugfixes were made.

[071] - tthsum 1.1.0
by Walter Doekes (http://freshmeat.net/users/wdoekes/)
Tue, Jun 28th 2005 10:57
Security
System :: Systems Administration
About: tthsum generates and checks TTH checksums (root of the THEX hash
tree). The Merkle Hash Tree is a hash construct that exhibits desirable
properties for verifying the integrity of files and file subranges in an
incremental or out-of-order fashion. The tool uses the Tiger hash
algorithm for both the internal and the leaf nodes, and has an interface
identical to md5sum.
Changes: Converted to C (from C++). A bug with invalid hashes generated
from stdin has been fixed. BIG_ENDIAN support has been added. The digest
format has been modified to make UTF-8 encoding mandatory.

[072] - udp_copy2 29
by lacos (http://freshmeat.net/users/lacos/)
Tue, Jun 28th 2005 15:17
Internet
Utilities
About: This small tool consists of two executables, udp_send2 and
udp_recv2, implementing plaintext non-interactive data transfer over
UDP/IPv4 with a preset transfer rate. On lossy links, it yields better
throughput than TCP-based transfers. It may also be used for smooth user
space throttling. Usage documentation is provided by verbose command line
help. It runs on UNIX 95 conformant systems, including OpenVMS. It reads
from/writes to pipes. Packet numbers are 64-bit wide (easily increasable).
It dedicates a mode to SNAT/MASQ (the receiver can initiate transfer from
behind a firewall). It features a very precise user space packet
scheduler. It handles SIGSTOP in a rational way. It only transfers in one
direction for one invocation. It needs and uses no synchronous I/O
multiplexing. Shell access is required on both ends.
Changes: This release eliminates a race where a cunningly scheduled
"SIGSTOP, let time pass, SIGCONT" triple would result in a timeout instead
of restarting the timer. (Hitting the window should be fairly unlikely even
without this fix.)

[079] - xajax 0.1 beta3

Tue, Jun 28th 2005 15:26
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: xajax is a PHP class library for easily creating powerful PHP-
driven, Web-based AJAX applications. Developers can use the library to
asynchronously call PHP functions and update the content of your a
Webpage without reloading the page. It is designed to be easy to
implement. To keep the presentation markup relatively clean and avoid
having to create a lot of JavaScript functions to update the Web content,
it allows you to control a great deal of the content through XML responses
from PHP functions.
Changes: The Javascript generated by xajax was modified to encapsulate all
of the xajax core Javascript into a Xajax Javascript class.This release
automatically compares the data contained in the xajaxResponse XML
returned from the PHP function to the data that is already in the
attribute of the specified element. The attribute is only updated with the
new data if it will actually change what is already in the attribute. This
eliminates the flicker hitherto observed in applications that update
content at a regular time interval with data which may or may not differ
from extant content.
