[002] - Aqua Data Studio 4.5.2
  by JohnLH (http://freshmeat.net/users/JohnLH/)
  Tue, Sep 6th 2005 02:13

Software Development

About: Aqua Data Studio is an SQL editor and developer tool that allows
database structures to be browsed, and SQL scripts to be easily created,
edited, and executed. It provides an integrated database environment with
a single consistent interface to all major relational databases, allowing
DBAs and developers to tackle multiple tasks simultaneously. The
sophisticated Query Analyzer features RDBMS-specific syntax highlighting
and auto-completion, detailed client statistical information, and
multi-grid results. Table structure and dependencies in the database
schema can be viewed, and queries can be saved in many formats, including
HTML and XML.

Changes: A "Save Query" button was added to the tool bar in the Procedure
Editor. A problem in Visual Edit and Scripting of View where column
aliases in CREATE and CREATE OR REPLACE were not added was fixed. An issue
where numeric fractions were truncated to three decimal values in query
results was fixed. The Script Generator now distinguishes tables with the
same names but different case. Visual Editing for DB2 now uses double
quote identifiers to generate SQL to support case sensitive object names.

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering

About: Asymptote is a powerful script-based vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. It is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program, allowing it to exploit the best
features of script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI)
methods. High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language
itself, allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.

Changes: General hidden surface removal was implemented using a binary
space partition, along with three-dimensional versions of the standard
path functions. Relative(real) and Relative(pair) functions were added for
labelling paths relative to the total arc length and local path direction.
Structure constructors were implemented and documented. The permissions of
static functions within structures was fixed. A pen argument to filltype
Fill to specify an interior pen distinct from the boundary pen was added.
Array.push now returns the pushed element. A missing shift in
Label.out(frame) was added.

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Games/Entertainment :: Puzzle Games

About: Biniax is an unique arcade logic game. Simple and addictive, you
can learn in a minute and play for hours. The gaming field is a 5x7 grid
filled partially with pairs of elements. Every pair consists of two
different elements combined of four possible. You control the box with an
element inside and can move around the field on empty spaces. You can also
remove pairs of elements if you have the same element as the one of the
pair. When you remove the pair, your element becomes the other one element
of the pair and the score is increased. The gaming field scrolls down
slowly and your goal is to stay on the field for as long as possible.

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Games/Entertainment

About: Boson is a real-time strategy game, like Command & Conquer(tm) or
StarCraft(tm). It uses the QT Toolkit and the KDE libraries. A minimum of
two players is required, since there is no artifical intelligence yet.
Boson is still in late development and not yet playable.

Changes: Boson was ported to libufo, realistic looking water, an event
subsystem and a network synchronization protocol have been added. Many new
effects, such as daylight and wind have been added. The pathfinder has been
much improved. Winning conditions and simple terrain level of detail have
been added. Flying units have gotten their own moving quirks. Many new
models such as trees were added. Many more changes were made.

[007] - clink 1.1
  by Michael Opdenacker (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelo/)
  Tue, Sep 6th 2005 09:27

System :: Archiving :: Compression
Utilities

About: clink replaces duplicate files in Unix filesystems with symbolic
links. It can achieve good space savings, for example on
automatically-generated directory structures, such as compiling
toolchains. It is fast; it reads each file only once, and its runtime is
mainly the time taken to read files. It also consumes very little RAM and
is very easy to use.

Changes: Support for command line options was added. The new "--dry-run"
option was added, and just reports identical files and potential space
savings without making any changes.

[008] - Comix 0.6
  by herrekberg (http://freshmeat.net/users/herrekberg/)
  Tue, Sep 6th 2005 09:27

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Comix is a comic book viewer. It reads zip, rar, tar, tar.gz, and
tar.bz2 archives (often called .cbz, .cbr and .cbt) as well as normal
image files.

Changes: A new option to hide the scrollbars even when not in fit to
screen mode was added. Pressing the space bar now scrolls the page to show
the next part of it; if the space bar is pressed at the bottom of the page,
it flips to the next page. Dialogs should now look better and use buttons
with stock icons. Previously, scrolling could be a bit faulty due to
different dimensions of the scrollbars in different themes. That problem
is now fixed. "Fit width", "Fit height", and "Fit to screen" commands
should now be exact.

[026] - gPodder 0.4
  by Thomas Perl (http://freshmeat.net/users/thp/)
  Tue, Sep 6th 2005 11:12

Communications :: File Sharing
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Desktop Environment :: Tools

About: gPodder is a Podcast receiver/catcher written in Python and pyGTK.
It manages podcast feeds for you, and automatically downloads all podcasts
from as many feeds as you like. If you are interested in Podcast feeds,
simply put the feed URLs into gPodder and it will download all episodes
for you automatically. If there is a new episode, it will get it for you.
It supports download resume, if the server supports it.

Changes: The GTK+ interface has been re-designed and a configuration
screen has been added. The GUI should be more stable and a new download
dialog has been added. Additionally, a list of already downloaded podcasts
has been integrated into the GUI, making it easy to play podcasts on your
hard drive. The ability to use any audio player you might want to select
is another new feature; for example, you can now use beep-media-player
instead of XMMS. This release includes some bugfixes and minor code
clean-ups.

[032] - Hilbert II 0.01.07
  by m31 (http://freshmeat.net/users/m31/)
  Tue, Sep 6th 2005 22:33

Documentation
Education
Internet

About: The Goal of Hilbert II, which is in the tradition of Hilbert's
program, is the creation of a system that enables a working mathematician
to put theorems and proofs (in the formal language of predicate calculus)
into it. These proofs are automatically verified by a proof checker.
Because this system is not centrally administered and enables references
to any location on the Internet, a world wide mathematical knowledge base
could be built. Any proof of a theorem in this "mathematical web" could be
drilled down to the very elementary rules and axioms. To make it more than
a huge number of logical correct formulas, it also contains information in
"common mathematical language". Think of an incredible number of
mathematical textbooks with hyperlinks, and each of its proofs could be
verified by *Hilbert II*. For each theorem, the dependency of other
propositions, definitions, and axioms could be easily derived.

Changes: The GUI shows errors now in a text area with a detailed error
position. Clicking on error text (or the edit button) opens a new editor
window with the qedeq file and the marked error position. Node labels must
now be unique, and an error occurs if they are not. In the German proof for
the first proposition provided, it no longer says "trivial". Two more
sample files are included. The first one, "qedeq_sample3_error.xml", has a
simple XML error. The next, "qedeq_sample2_error.xml", is correct XML but
has two nodes that share the same label.

About: The LibXDiff library implements basic and yet complete
functionalities to create file differences/patches to both binary and text
files. It uses memory files as file abstraction to achieve both performance
and portability. For binary files, it implements (with some modification)
the algorithm described in "File System Support for Delta Compression" by
Joshua P. MacDonald. For text files, it follows directives described in
"An O(ND) Difference Algorithm and Its Variations" by Eugene W. Myers.
Memory files used by the library are basically a collection of buffers
that store the file content.

[044] - lx_lib structural memory library 20050906-1
  by ari (http://freshmeat.net/users/edelkind/)
  Tue, Sep 6th 2005 22:52

Software Development :: Libraries

About: lx_lib is a structural C data library designed for security,
functionality, speed, and convenience (in that order). Memory allocation
is handled using structures and may be performed automatically. This
promotes (among other things) more secure programming practices, obviates
the need to traverse a data buffer to find its length, supersedes the
practice of keeping the current allocated amount in a separate variable
or overallocating, and enables strings to contain binary zeroes. Generic
descriptors allow for better buffering practices, hence potentially faster
 reading and writing operations. They also allow for trivial (and fast)
delimiter separation during reads.

Changes: Minor functionality improvements were done. More intuitive header
files were written.

  by Omar Kilani (http://freshmeat.net/users/omar/)
  Tue, Sep 6th 2005 23:09

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: php-json is a PHP extension that provides support for JSON
(JavaScript Object Notation) serialisation. It can be used in conjunction
with XMLHTTPRequest to exchange JavaScript-encoded data with a browser.

Changes: Issues with negative array keys were fixed. json-c was modified
to return an error on unquoted object key names instead of going into an
infinite loop. Issues with exporting private and protected class members
were fixed. Escaping of "/" was fixed. Spacing in json-c encoding was
changed. An optional "assoc" (boolean) parameter was added to json_decode
to decode as an associative array instead of an object.

  Tue, Sep 6th 2005 06:03

Office/Business :: Groupware

About: Verlof is a Web application for registering and viewing leave
information. It records hours of leave rights and hours of leave within
categories like normal leave, special leave, reduced working-hours (ADV),
and the begin and end dates for the leave's period. The few rules imposed
on the entries are mainly sanity checks like "begin date is in the
weekend". The act of entering a new leave entry sends an email to the
group manager and a copy to the employee. The advantages of this
electronic version over the paper version are: there is a single
information location (no employee-card and mother-card discrepancies),
questionable entries immediately draw the manager's attention (with
email), and various up-to-date views of the leave history are available
(total, year, and list). Verlof is a Dutch-only application and a little

[092] - XMMS2 0.1DR2.2
  by Tobias Rundström (http://freshmeat.net/users/tru/)
  Tue, Sep 6th 2005 15:09

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3

About: XMMS2 is a redesign of the XMMS music player. It features a
client-server model, allowing multiple (even simultaneous!) user
interfaces, both textual and graphical. All common audio formats are
supported using plugins. On top of this, there is a flexible media library
to organize your music.

Changes: This release adds checking for negative gain values. It fixes a
memory leak in results that store lists, bad documentation in the
xmmsclient python bindings, a buggy xmmsc_result_list_first, refcounting
for Ruby clientbindings refcounting problems in Python clientbindings, and
a memory leak in xmms_object_emit_f.

[093] - xsd 1.2.0
  by Boris Kolpackov (http://freshmeat.net/users/bosk/)
  Tue, Sep 6th 2005 10:51

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: xsd is a W3C XML Schema to C++ translator. It generates a
vocabulary-specific, statically-typed C++ mapping (also called binding)
from XML Schema definitions. The mapping consists of data types that
represent the given vocabulary, a set of parsing functions that convert
XML instance documents to a tree-like in-memory data structure, and a set
of serialization functions that convert the in-memory representation back
to XML. xsd features C++ standard library-based language mapping,
configurable base character type (char/wchar_t), support for all XML
Schema built-in types, custom Schema to C++ namespace mapping,
platform-independent generated code, and more.

Changes: New SAX-like XML Schema to C++ mapping has been implemented. This
mapping provides parser templates for data types defined in XML Schema.
Using these parser templates, you can build your own in-memory
representations or perform immediate processing of XML instance documents.

[094] - Yet Another Telephony Engine 0.9.0pre1
  by Diana Cionoiu (http://freshmeat.net/users/lfy/)
  Tue, Sep 6th 2005 02:15

Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony

About: YATE is a telephony engine aimed at creating an telephony server
that performs well enough to deal with PBX requirements and also flexible
enough for complex Gateway and IVR solutions.

Changes: Many improvements were made, including a fully rewritten engine,
a new RTP stack, a Windows port, a conference module, support for the
cheap Sangoma E1/T1 cards under both Windows and Linux, SIP video support,
and improvements in NAT traversal for SIP servers and for old applications
like SIP-H323 signalling proxy. This package also contains YateClient,
which is a multi-protocol H323, SIP, and IAX VoIP client for both Windows
and Linux that supports skins. Most of the engine and modules were
rewritten and a lot of bugs eliminated.

[095] - ziproxy 1.5.1
  by Daniel Mealha Cabrita (http://freshmeat.net/users/dancab/)
  Tue, Sep 6th 2005 22:54

Internet :: Proxy Servers

About: ziproxy is a forwarding (non-caching) proxy that gzips text and
HTML files, and reduces the size of images by converting them to low
quality JPEGs. It is intended to increase the speed for dial-up Internet
connections. Most browsers support gzipped content, so Web pages appear as
normal, but as they are only a fraction of their original page size, pages
are much quicker to load. Even for browsers that don't support it, hints
how to overcome it using SSH port forwarding are included. Images are
reduced in size by an average of one third, with only marginal visible
image quality loss. It should be used with inetd/xinetd, but if you can't
use them, a simple replacement "netd" is provided.

Changes: Some uninitialized variables were fixed. This release is expected
to be more stable and can be compiled for x86-64 and PPC.
