[002] - adesklets 0.4.12
  by S.Fourmanoit (http://freshmeat.net/users/syfou2/)
  Mon, Sep 12th 2005 12:43

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Multimedia :: Graphics

About: adesklets is an interactive Imlib2 console for the X Window System.
 It provides to scripted languages a clean and simple way to write great
looking, mildly interactive desktop integrated graphic applets (aka
"desklets"). It can also be used as a command line oriented graphics
editor, a bit similar to ImageMagick, but with different functionality.

Changes: This release corrects an error with the distributed documentation
makefile that prevented info files and manual pages from installing
correctly on arbitrary, empty directory trees. It also adds support for
nautilus and KDE >=3.4.1, as well as preliminary support for ROX-Filer and
xffm-deskview in the shell frontend. It should also rectify a long-standing
issue with some desklets failing to complete their initial display. The
documentation FAQ was slightly expanded.

security constraints. The backend uses an O-R mapping tool to achieve
independence of database-specific queries. RSS feeds provide subscribers
continuous updates on a per-FAQ basis.

Changes: RSS feeds are now supported on a per-project basis. Forms are now
more robust with respect to input errors. Downloading attachments now works
on IE, assuming the client has support for "private" caches as specified in
the HTTP 1.1 specification.

[018] - Conary 0.62.4

  Mon, Sep 12th 2005 22:37

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: This version fixed some cases where updates failed due to an
error in dependency resolution. Multiple performance improvements were
made.

[021] - FlashUnity 0.1b
  by Cyberlot (http://freshmeat.net/users/cyberlot/)
  Mon, Sep 12th 2005 16:18

Communications :: Chat
Games/Entertainment

About: FlashUnity is a channel-based approach to an XML flash
communications server and chat room. The CyberSS project this spawned from
was originally nothing more then a simple PHP socket server example with a
simple chat frontend as a proof of concept. FlashUnity, however, was built
from the ground up to be an easy to extend Flash communications server. By
using the concept of channels, each of which handles a different task, the
FlashUnity server becomes extremely flexible and easy to extend. Also, by
using channels it is possible to run multiple modular functions within the
same server. Because this is a total rewrite of Cyberss from the ground up
and the APIs and XML have multiple major changes, there are currently no
working Flash clients.

[023] - Fuzzy sets for Ada 4.1
  by Dmitry Kazakov (http://freshmeat.net/users/kazakov/)
  Mon, Sep 12th 2005 22:30

Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Fuzzy sets for Ada is a library providing implementations of
confidence factors with the operations not, and, or, xor, +, and *,
classical fuzzy sets with the set-theoretic operations and the operations
of the possibility theory, intuitionistic fuzzy sets with the operations
on them, fuzzy logic based on the intuitionistic fuzzy sets and the
possibility theory; fuzzy numbers, both integer and floating-point with
conventional arithmetical operations, and linguistic variables and sets of
linguistic variables with operations on them. String-oriented I/O is
supported.

Changes: This release added multiplication and division between a fuzzy
number and a dimensioned number or interval from another yielding a
dimensioned fuzzy number, between a linguistic variable and a dimensioned
number yielding a dimensioned variable, To_Variable_Measure conversion
with a Variable argument, and empirical defuzzification methods of
linguistic variables for center of area, center of gravity, left-most
maximum, and right-most maximum. Multiplication and division of linguistic
variables now works with negative multiplicands and divisors. A bug in the
implementation of operations on linguistic variables was fixed.

About: Goanseech is a spinoff of the leverlada IRC leech script. One of
its core parts was extracted and remade into a standalone server. This
server holds information about the basic pattern that specifies the base
name of a TV series, which episodes were already fetched, and the maximum
number of episodes. There are several clients, including a script that

Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Lua is a programming language originally designed for extending
applications, but also frequently used as a general-purpose, stand-alone
language. It combines simple procedural syntax (similar to Pascal) with
powerful data description constructs based on associative arrays and
extensible semantics. It is dynamically typed, interpreted from bytecodes,
and has automatic memory management, making it ideal for configuration,
scripting, and rapid prototyping. It is implemented as a small library of
C functions, written in ANSI C, and compiles unmodified in all known
platforms. The implementation goals are simplicity, efficiency,
portability, and low embedding cost. It has been used on games such as
Vendetta, FarCry, Homeworld2, Painkiller, and World of Warcraft.

Changes: This is the first official alpha version for the upcoming 5.1
release. A new module system, new semantics for control variables and
"for", new semantics for getn/setn, new syntax/semantics for varargs, new
long strings and comments, new "mod" operator, new length operator,
metatables for all types, some API changes, a new configuration scheme via
include file, incremental garbage collection, a fully reentrant parser,
better support for 64-bit machines, native loadlib support for Mac OS X,
and standard distribution in a single library were all implemented.

for Open Virtuozzo Virtual Private servers (VPS). VPSs are isolated,
secure environments on a single physical server, enabling better server
utilization and ensuring that applications do not conflict. Each VPS
performs and executes exactly like a stand-alone server; VPSs can be
rebooted independently and have root access, users, IP addresses, memory,
processes, files, applications, system libraries, and configuration files.

Changes: Mainstream kernel security fixes, fairscheduler debug code and
fixes, statistics fixes, and reorganization of vzkernel headers.

[061] - otl 0.34
  by david a thompson (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomp/)
  Mon, Sep 12th 2005 12:34

Text Processing :: General

About: otl converts a text file written in a user-specified syntax to a
second text file with user-specified markup. The default conversion is
from a simple, readable text file syntax designed for writing an outline
to XHTML. However, otl can be used for many types of conversion, since the
syntax of the source file and of the output can both be customized by the
user. otl is more than a search/replace frontend; it can process complex
structures such as ordered and unordered lists (nested or unnested), add
custom "headers" and "footers" to documents, etc. The package also
includes tag-remove, a script for stripping XML tags from documents.

Changes: This release deals with lists better, handles DOS-ish files
better, and processes multiple files in one pass correctly. It also has
new features: handling tabbing better, excluding sets of lines from
processing (facilitating inclusion of complex material (e.g., MathML) in
the source document), and, if the output is HTML, automatic conversion of
http://xxxx to an HTML link. The tag-remove script also cleans up files
significantly better, dealing with DOS-ish files, etc. with a little more
grace.

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Systems Administration

About: PAM_pkcs#11 is a Linux-PAM login module that allows a X.509
certificate based user login. The certificate and its dedicated private
key are thereby accessed by means of an appropriate PKCS #11 module. For
the verification of the users' certificates, locally stored CA
certificates as well as either online or locally accessible CRLs are used.
A very flexible, stackable, and configurable Certificate-To-Login mapping
scheme is provided to deduce/verify the username to log in.

Changes: This is the first version developed at the OpenSC.org site. The
mapper API was stabilized. All defined Cert-to-login mappers are working.
Manuals, doxygen, and manpage documentation were written.

About: QOF (Query Object Framework), provides a set of C Language
utilities for performing generic structured complex queries on a set of
data held by a set of C/C++ objects. This framework is unique in that it
does not require SQL or any database at all to perform the query. Thus, it
allows programmers to add query support to their applications without
having to hook into an SQL database.

Changes: This pre-release is a test-bed and some functions may require
further work. It is not intended for packaging at this stage. New code
includes: QofBook merge support with collision handling; support for

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced syslogd. Among other features, it offers
support for reliable syslog over TCP, writing to MySQL databases, and
fully configurable output formats (including great timestamps). It is
designed as a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to
work with the same config file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features
require changing the config file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.

Changes: Feature-wise, there is no difference from 0.9.8; it just has some
minor doc changes plus a very little bugfix in the usage() function. The

About: Solipsis is a pure peer-to-peer system for a massively shared
virtual world. There is no server at all: it only relies on end- users'
machines. It is a public virtual territory. The world is initially empty
and only users will fill it by creating and running entities. The system
architecture clearly separates the different tasks, so that peer-to-peer
hackers as well as multimedia geeks can find a good place to have fun.

Changes: This version implements a new version of the Solipsis network
protocol. The new protocol features version negotiation and the ability to
communicate with peers having different protocol versions, seamless
traversal of "port/address restricted cone" NATs in addition to "full
cone" NATs, better communication for peers behind the same NAT. Moreover,
a pre-beta version of a major feature of the "profile" service has been

of fish is to give the user a rich set of powerful features in a way that
is easy to discover, remember, and use. fish features a user-friendly and
powerful tab-completion, including descriptions of every completion,
tab-completion of strings with wildcards, and many completions for
specific commands. It also features an extensive and discoverable help
system. A special help command gives access to all the fish documentation
in your preferred Web browser. Other features include syntax highlighting
with extensive error checking, support for the X clipboard, smart terminal
handling based on terminfo, an easy to search, no duplicates history.

Changes: A bug in the I/O redirection code that sometimes caused
redirection on descriptors higher than 2 to fail has been fixed. Startup
and shutdown speed have been improved, especially when using long history
files. An infinite loop when completing the string 'command ' has been
removed.

[094] - TrackIt 1.0 RC 2
  by Jason Dalton (http://freshmeat.net/users/tjasond/)
  Mon, Sep 12th 2005 08:36

Software Development :: Version Control

About: TrackIt is a Web-based project tracking tool designed from the
ground up to provide maximum flexibility, customization, and most
importantly, usefulness to the developer. It has built-in support for
various Extreme Programming constructs, as well as full Subversion and CVS
integration. It also supports simple listings via HQL and advanced
reporting via SQL. It is written in pure Java, so it will run on any OS
with a VM.

Changes: Input validation improvements and UI improvements were made.
Basic logging was added instead of system outs. RSS timelines are provided
by adding ?rss=ProjectName to the trackit servlet URL. A current memory
usage readout is provided by appending ?mem. Limited access to the log is
provided via the /log servlet. Some db property names weere changed to
work with SQL Server. The ROME library is now used to read RSS. The
trackit.sh classpath argument was fixed. Support for specifying custom
port to both scripts was added. The heavy weight screens were modified to
be more memory efficient.

  Mon, Sep 12th 2005 08:11

Software Development
Text Processing :: General
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML

About: uni2ascii and ascii2uni convert between UTF-8 Unicode and any of a
variety of 7-bit ASCII equivalents including: hexadecimal and decimal HTML
numeric character references, \u-escapes, standard hexadecimal, and raw
hexadecimal. Such ASCII equivalents are useful when including Unicode text
in program source, when entering text into Web programs that can handle the
Unicode character set but are not 8-bit safe, and when debugging.

Changes: Four additional ASCII formats are now supported. A command-line
option was added to both programs that allows the user to define ASCII
formats in addition to those built-in.

[100] - WidgetServer 0.7.7

  Mon, Sep 12th 2005 15:09

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: WidgetServer is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables
an application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server
Swing app, or as a Web app without any change and without loss of
functionality. A unified widget-based, object-oriented programming
interface for Web and Swing GUIs is offered to the developer to control
and assemble the GUI, instead of struggling with HTML, JavaScript, and
HTTP requests, or the internals of Swing. For Swing client/server
applications, the framework handles client/server communication, including
compression and security layers. A GUI-builder is included.

Changes: This release includes some bugfixes in enhanced Web/HTML widgets,
and several enhancements in support for HTML-centric development are
included. In addition to GridbagLayout and absolute positioning,
FlowLayout is supported, and some path names are corrected to run the
"html centric development" example in Unix environments.

[101] - WiKID Strong Authentication System 1.0-RC1 (PHP network client
plugin)
  by nowen (http://freshmeat.net/users/nowen/)
  Mon, Sep 12th 2005 11:50

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: The WiKID Strong Authentication System is a highly scalable, secure
two-factor authentication system consisting of a server, a token client,
and network clients that connect a service such as a VPN or Web page to
the WiKID server to validate one-time passcodes. The user enters their PIN
into the token client, where it is encrypted and sent to the server. If the
PIN is correct, the encryption valid, and account active, the one-time
passcode is generated, encrypted, and returned to the user. It is simple
to implement and maintain, allows users to be validated automatically,
requires no hardware tokens, has a simple API for application support via
a COM object and Java component, supports multiple domains, and supports
replication for fault tolerance and scalability.

Changes: Fixes to handle sockets better between PHP 4 and PHP 5.

[103] - XDBCMS 0.11
  by Carl Beech (http://freshmeat.net/users/carlbeech/)
  Mon, Sep 12th 2005 15:16

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: XDBCMS is a Web-based, multi-user CMS that can manage any number of
Web sites, each site with any number of pages, and each site organised in a
tree-based menu that can be any depth. Where XDBCMS differs from most
content management systems is that it actually generates a stand-alone Web
site, which requires no database to drive it, can be 'released' to any Web
server, and would be able to cope with very large numbers of users. For
the authors, it features a WYSIWYG editor, similar to MS-Word in
appearance, allowing full control over the format (tables, fonts,
graphics, etc.) of each individual page. It allows multiple authors and
features a group-based security system.

Changes: Updated to use PHP version 5, and the requirement that
'REGISTER_GLOBALS' be turned on has been removed. Hard-coded 'xdbcms' has
been removed, and can now be altered in a central file. This means that
the application can be installed on most 3rd party Web servers. The
WYSIWYG tinyMCE editor has been updated to version 1.45, and the
application has usability improvements.

  Mon, Sep 12th 2005 11:29

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio

About: XO Wave is a digital audio workstation which offers powerful
features and an intuitive cross platform user interface. It provides
simple yet powerful recording, editing, mixing, CD Burning, and scripting
(via the XML session file) as well as basic effects, including reverb,
compression, and EQ, and flexible real-time cross fades. The audio engine
is separate from the GUI, which allows for intelligent management of
background tasks and the ability to use separate machines for the
interface and for playback.

Changes: This release fixes a bug in wallclock quantization at 48 kHz, a
bug in copying when the copied region was locked to the next region, and a
bug that sometimes caused volume sliders to disappear. In addition, this
release includes a few minor enhancements suggested by users. For example,
alt/option and shift can now be used to modify the amount of a “nudge” or
change of view. The right arrow can be used to move the view to the right,
while shift-right can be used to move the view to the right more, and
alt/option-right can be used to move the view to the right less.
