Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: Ajaqs is a Web application that organizes FAQs on a per-project
basis. The UI is templatized, the content is internationalized, and the
styles are highly configurable. Secure login is provided via webapp
security constraints. The backend uses an O-R mapping tool to achieve
independence of database-specific queries. RSS feeds provide subscribers
continuous updates on a per-FAQ basis.
Changes: This version incorporates the iText package in order to transform
FAQs into PDF resources that are streamed into a servlet response on the
fly. Note that MSIE clients only work if compression-filtering is turned
off on the PDF-generation servlet in the deployment descriptor web.xml.

[005] - binfind 0.0.3
by Edwin Steiner (http://freshmeat.net/users/etwist/)
Fri, Sep 16th 2005 06:02
Utilities
About: binfind searches files for a byte sequence. The pattern can be
given on the command line in ASCII or hex, read from a file, or a
combination of the above. binfind uses the Boyer-Moore algorithm and is
able to search large files without using a lot of memory. For each
occurrence of the pattern, binfind prints a line containing the offset of
the occurrence in the searched file. If more than one file was specified,
binfind prints the filename and a colon before the offset.
Changes: This release fixes reading from a pipe and handling invalid
options. A small test suite has been added.

[012] - COID 0.8.4
by Brano Kemen (http://freshmeat.net/users/cameni/)
Fri, Sep 16th 2005 06:02
Communications
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries
About: COID consists of an object-oriented networking library and tools
that automatically generate a lightweight communications layer from C++
class declarations. Instantly functioning object-oriented networking can
be done just by decorating a C++ class with a few keywords and
implementing stream operators for custom types. The coidgen tool
automatically extracts designated classes and methods from specified
header files and generates a corresponding client class and host
dispatcher. The server library manages networked and local connections and
provides various services to running objects. The communication layer
establishes either remote connection through TCP or direct (vtable)
connection between the client and the server (if they reside in the same
process).
Changes: This release removes the dependency on the pthreads-win package,
adds documentation updates, and makes minor bugfixes.

by Hayati Ayguen (http://freshmeat.net/users/hayguen/)
Fri, Sep 16th 2005 16:22
Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Testing
About: DUMA (Detect Unintended Memory Access) stops your program on the
exact instruction that overruns (or underruns) a malloc() memory buffer.
GDB will then display the source-code line that causes the bug. It works
by using the virtual-memory hardware to create a red-zone at the border of
each buffer: touch that, and your program stops. It can catch formerly
impossible-to-catch overrun bugs. DUMA is a fork of Bruce Perens' Electric
Fence library.
Changes: The option DUMA_FREE_WIPES has been removed. A new preprocessor
flag 'DUMA_NO_HANG_MSG' has been added. Special rules have been added to
the makefile for building a shared library. An INSTALL document has been
created. The README has been greatly extended: the contents of the man
page are now in the README, and the options DUMA_SLACKFILL,
DUMA_MALLOC_FAILEXIT, DUMA_MAX_ALLOC, DUMA_FREE_ACCESS, DUMA_SHOW_ALLOC,
and DUMA_DISABLE_BANNER have been documented.

[034] - Internet DJ Console 0.5.1
by Stephen Fairchild (http://freshmeat.net/users/psoriasis/)
Fri, Sep 16th 2005 16:26
About: Internet DJ console is a graphical shoutcast/icecast client that
runs under GTK+ and the JACK audio connection kit. In short, it's an
Internet radio app for making a live radio show or podcast. Features
include two main media players with a crossfader, a jingle player,
microphone signal processing (compressor and noise gate), IRC track
announcements with X-Chat, an automatic stream shut-off timer, MP3 or Ogg
streaming and recording at various bit rates, aux input for connecting
external JACK aware applications, and audio level meters.
Changes: Graphical tweaks, including graphics on the mic and and aux open
buttons. A new advance button moves you through the playlist, stopping if
actually playing, and is situated next to the mic open button for maximum
convenience. The jingles player loses the useless clear button and gains
an extra play button. You get two different levels of main player
attenuation when using them. A bug has been fixed in the jingles player
when choosing three items in sequence while using mplayer1.0pre7.

[063] - Ragel State Machine Compiler 4.2
by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
Fri, Sep 16th 2005 12:04
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: Ragel compiles finite state machines from regular languages into
C/C++/Objective-C code. It allows the programmer to embed actions at any
point in a regular language and to control non-determinism in the
resulting machines. It understands concatenation, union, kleene star,
subtraction, intersection, epsilon transitions, and various other common
operators. Through the use of labels and epsilon transitions, Ragel
supports the building of state machines using a named state and associated
transition list paradigm. Its finite state machines are closed under all of
its operators. This property allows for arbitrary regular languages to be
described. It can be used to create a parser for any language that is
regular.
Changes: Several fixes and changes to the experimental longest match
construction were made. To-state and from-state actions were added. The
code generator was updated to reflect the new single-operation semantics
of action embedding introduced in 4.0. Bugs in the epsilon transition
implementation were fixed. The operators used to embed context and actions
into states were modified. Verbose versions of action, context, and
priority embedding were added. The zlen built-in machine was added.

[065] - Salonify 0.82

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
About: Salonify is a Perl script which displays images that you have
organized in a directory hierarchy. The Web user can choose to see photos
as thumbnails or in small, medium, or full-size format; rotate the images;
modify the captions; move from folder to folder or image to image easily;
and customize the layout. The administrator can also take away any of
these abilities from the user if they want. By default, the captioning is
totally democratic (or wiki-like)--anyone visiting your site can change
the captions. You can also lock this down. Salonify generates nearly
w3c-compliant HTML (getting closer all the time) and renders quite well in
all tested browsers, including w3m-img, lynx, Mozilla, Opera, Netscape,
Internet Explorer, etc.. It uses JavaScript when available but does not
depend on it, and makes special allowances for bugs in certain browsers.
Changes: A new feature was added which allows the Web visitor to download
the entire photo album as a ZIP file. Also, more error/sanity checking was
added and the documentation was reorganized.

[067] - SchemaSpy 1.6.1
by John Currier (http://freshmeat.net/users/johncurrier/)
Fri, Sep 16th 2005 02:38
About: SchemaSpy is a Java-based tool that analyzes the metadata of a
schema in a database and generates a visual representation of it in a
browser-displayable format. It lets you click through the hierarchy of
database tables via child and parent table relationships. Browsing through
relationships can occur though HTML links and/or though the graphical
representation of the relationships. It's also designed to help resolve
the obtuse errors that a database sometimes gives related to failures due
to constraints.
Changes: The dot problems on Unix (which were caused by quotes around
filenames) were fixed. This release should now generate appropriate graphs
on the various Unix derivitives as well as non-Unix operating systems. This
was a major bugfix for many operating systems. The Utilities page no longer
has an irritating "Generated by SchemaSpy" label on each table. The legend
now more closely represents what the HTML tables and graphs display.

libraries, PHP coding standards, platform/PHP version/browser
independence, self-generating documentation, and quality end-user docs.
Changes: This release adds RSS importation/exportation (at last!),
improved session management, a Turkish translation, the ability to scrape
and include wiki pages (requires PHP5 and tidy), a postgres user and
database creation script, the db function unix_timestamp for Oracle and
PostgreSQL, and the ability to view the login history for a given user.
Admins are now notified of new registrations with a separate screen for
activating/disabling accounts.

[069] - Simplebackup 1.6.0 rc1 (Release Candidates)
by Miguel Angelo (http://freshmeat.net/users/miguelangelo/)
Fri, Sep 16th 2005 16:17
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: Simplebackup is a cross-platform backup program. It reads a
configuration file, then it builds a compressed file for each of your
backup directories or files on your backup list, and places the compressed
files into another location. For example, this location can be a network
mapped drive in Windows, an NFS mounted drive in Unix, another hard disk,
an FTP server, or a tape device (Unix only). This will duplicate your
information, doing the so called "backup".
Changes: Full restore support with several restore modes, including a sync
option and a restore text menu. Email backups so that users can back up
into one or more email accounts. A new advanced rejection option that
supports wildcards (e.g. *.mp3). Several new configuration options.
Generic improvements and bugfixes. A new manual in HTML format. The
infozip package has been updated. A Microsoft Windows compiled version is
now included; using simplebackup.exe, Windows users no longer need to have
Perl installed.

[078] - Wechselspieler 0.7
by Thomas Kuleßa (http://freshmeat.net/users/tkul/)
Fri, Sep 16th 2005 13:39
Artistic Software
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: Wechselspieler is a tool for mapping motion data from a video
stream onto sound events in the MIDI and OSC protocols. It features a GUI
for easy selection of trigger regions in a video stream and mapping these
to individual sound events. It supports various video input sources, such
as Video4Linux devices, movie files, and FireWire cameras. As output, it
supports ALSA based MIDI devices and the UDP based OSC (OpenSoundControl)
protocol for integration with MIDI hard/software and OSC-capable software
like PD, SuperCollider, and Max/MSP.
Changes: This release is a major improvement in terms of usability. When
selecting a rectangular trigger region in the video image, the rectangle
is displayed now. With this feature, the editing of a trigger set is much
easier. OSC destination saving works, and some UI inconsistencies and
normal bugs have been fixed.

[079] - ztk-tvguide 1a
by zentara (http://freshmeat.net/users/zentara/)
Fri, Sep 16th 2005 06:17
About: ztk-tvguide is a Perl/Tk frontend to the XMLTV files available from
labs.zap2it.com. It uses the XMLTV Perl module.
Changes: This release fixes a UTC-to-local time conversion problem. The
script now relies on xmltv's downloader script (and configuration file) to
adjust to local time. You may need to edit your xmltv configuration file
tv_grab_na_dd.conf to adjust your timezone offset from UTC to local. It
also fixes a bug which could cause cross-linking of programs across days.

by morb (http://freshmeat.net/users/morbach/)
Fri, Sep 16th 2005 13:48
Desktop Environment
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
About: This is a simple program to change the background periodically. It
takes one or more directories with images as a parameter (no GUI) and sets
a randomly chosen image as background. If there is a border remaining, its
color is the average color of two corners of the image. This mostly fits
the image very well. It doesn't work if the root window is hidden by
another program, like in Gnome or KDE.
Changes: Symlink loop detection and internal changes.
