Education
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: aiSee reads a textual, easy-to-read, and easy-to-learn graph
specification and automatically calculates a customizable graph layout.
This layout is then displayed, and can be printed or interactively
explored. aiSee features 15 basic graph layout algorithms (including
force-directed layout), recursive subgraph nesting, fish-eye views, and an
animation interface. It has been optimized to handle huge graphs
automatically generated by applications (e.g. compilers).
Changes: This release fixes several PNG image mapping bugs. Exporting of
graphs to SVG has been improved; the output SVG files are now smaller.
Exporting of edges to bitmap formats has been improved. Several GUI bugs
have been fixed.

[003] - AKFQuiz 4.0.3
by Andreas K. Foerster (http://freshmeat.net/users/AKFoerster/)
Wed, Sep 21st 2005 02:03
Education
About: The AKFQuiz package lets you easily make your own quiz games or
learning exercises. These can be used either with grquiz in a graphical
environment (SVGAlib or X11), with crtquiz on a text terminal, or with
diaquiz in a GUI environment. There is also a line oriented variant,
linequiz, which can be used as a backend. A CGI-variant can be installed
on a Web server to offer exercises via the Web. A mkquiz tool that
generates an HTML file for to use with the JavaScript akfquiz4.js is also
included. Those can then be published with any Web-space provider.
Changes: Grquiz now also runs with the standard VGA driver of svgalib, so
there shouldn't be any problems with unsupported graphic cards anymore.
Because the resolution is a little smaller, the letters appear larger in a
full screen mode. Several changes for more compatiblity to GNU-Pascal (GPC)
were made. With GPC and the GRX library, it is also possible to compile
grquiz as an X11 application which runs in a window. When you compile
crtquiz with GPC, it will be linked with ncurses, so a terminal database
is used.

[012] - ccbuild 1.4.0
by A. Bram Neijt (http://freshmeat.net/users/bmm/)
Wed, Sep 21st 2005 07:14
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: ccbuild is like a dynamic Makefile. ccbuild finds all programs in
the current directory (containing "int main") and builds them. For this,
it reads the C++ sources and looks at all local and global includes. All
C++ files surrounding local includes are considered objects for the main
program. The global includes lead to extra compiler arguments using a
configuration file. ccbuild splits these arguments for compilation and
linking, keeping the linking arguments back for later use. It should allow
development without any scripting and only simple reusable configuration.
Deployment and distribution should still be done with other tools. It can
create simple Makefiles, A-A-P files, and graph dependencies using DOT
(graphviz) graphs.
Changes: The new lib commands allow you to generate a library, which is
now the default if no source file with an "int main" function is found.
The documentation has been updated.

[015] - COID 0.8.5
by Brano Kemen (http://freshmeat.net/users/cameni/)
Wed, Sep 21st 2005 07:09
Communications
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries
About: COID is an object-oriented networking library with a tool that
automatically generates a lightweight communication layer directly from a
C++ class declaration. The coidgen tool automatically extracts designated
classes and methods from specified header files and generates a
corresponding client class and host dispatcher. The server library manages
networked and local connections and provides various services to running
objects. The communication layer establishes either remote connection
through TCP or direct (vtable) connection between the client and the
server (if they reside in the same process).
Changes: Bugfixes were made to the coid/comm library to compile with
gcc-4.0. A problem in which the Windows version of coid server did not
spawn console applications with the right port argument if it was changed
by the .devconf file was fixed. A crash which occurred when loading mixed
release/debug compiled services in Windows was fixed.

[016] - Database Bean Generator 2.0.3
by jespo (http://freshmeat.net/users/jespo2005/)
Wed, Sep 21st 2005 07:37
Database
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Generator is a command line application to facilitate the
construction of small applications that need some database objects. It
isn't a replacement for complex object persistence solutions, like
hibernate or TopLink, but it covers a different target: the little Java
Web applications that don't use sophisticated persistence options.
Generator invocation is simple: just type java -jar generator.jar -xml,
where the config file is an XML config file with the definitions to
connect to the database and generate the bean classes. You can also use
the Ant task.
Changes: Some cosmetic changes were made. generator.jar isn't needed in
the runtime anymore.

About: integrit is an alternative to file integrity verification programs
like tripwire and aide. It helps you determine whether an intruder has
modified a computer system. integrit's major advantages are a small memory
footprint and simplicity. It works by creating a database that is a
snapshot of the most essential parts of your computer system. You put the
database somewhere safe, and you can then use it to make sure that no one
has made any illicit modifications to the computer system. In the case of
a break in, you know exactly which files have been modified, added, or
removed.
Changes: Changes in the file type are now detected correctly, as are
changes to device node major/minor numbers and symlink targets. Support
for systems without static linking support was added. Directories

Internet :: Proxy Servers
About: P3Scan is a full transparent proxy server for email clients. It
runs on a Linux box with iptables (for port redirection). It can be used
to provide email scanning from the Internet to any internal network, and
is ideal for helping to protect your "Other OS" LAN from harm, especially
when used in conjunction with a firewall and other Internet proxy servers.
It is designed to enable scanning of incoming email messages for viruses,
worms, trojans, spam, and harmful attachments. Because viewing HTML email
can enable a spammer to validate an email address (via Web bugs), it can
also provide HTML stripping.
Changes: Space and connection patches were applied. All admins using the
space option should upgrade. Source RPMs are now available.

About: The PCI Utilities package contains various utilities dealing with
the PCI bus, and also a library for portable access to PCI configuration
registers. It includes `lspci' for listing all PCI devices (very useful
for debugging of both kernel and device drivers) and `setpci' for manual
configuration of PCI devices.
Changes: This release is intended to replace several small bugs with many
small new features. This includes dumping of PCI 3.0, PCI-X, PCI Express,
and HyperTransport capabilities. The package has also been ported to GNU
Hurd, Solaris/i386, and MS Windows. The Linux port learned to use the /sys
filesystem on newer kernels. As usual, the PCI ID database has gained

About: Yxa is a SIP stack and a set of SIP server applications written in
Erlang/OTP. The SIP stack is RFC3261 compliant. Among the features
implemented are SIP registrar, SIP router, forking, CPL, IPv6, TLS, ENUM,
PSTN gateway access control and modular user database backends. The main
goal of the project is to create a robust SIP server platform that can
scale to tens of thousands of users, be interoperable through standards
compliance, and still have short time-to-market for new features due to
the use of a high level language.
