[001] - ADOdb Lite 1.10
  by Panama Jack (http://freshmeat.net/users/panamajack/)
  Mon, Nov 14th 2005 17:13

Database
Database :: Front-Ends
Internet

About: ADOdb Lite is a small, fast replacement for ADODB that uses 1/6th
of the memory and is up to 300% faster, while being compatible with a
subset of the most commonly used ADODB commands. It supports Frontbase,
MaxDB, MiniSql, MSSQL, MySQL, ODBC, PostgreSQL, SQLite, and Sybase.

Changes: This release adds a missing SQLDate function to SQLite and SQLite
Pro drivers. If the $databasename variable is empty, then the SQLite/
SQLite Pro drivers will use the $host information to create and connect to
the database. The postgres64, postgres7, and postgres8 drivers had the
incorrect connection data in the _makeconnection function. If the host,
user, or password were missing, an error would occur. In
adodb-xmlschema.inc.php, the ExtractSchema function was declared twice.

[002] - arpwatch NG 1.0
  by Freek (http://freshmeat.net/users/thefreek/)
  Mon, Nov 14th 2005 06:36

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: The arpwatch NG package contains arpwatch and arpsnmp. Both
utilities monitor Ethernet or FDDI network traffic and build databases of
Ethernet/IP address pairs, and can report certain changes. It is based
upon the original, but old, arpwatch package.

Changes: The help output was reworked and is printed on stdout instead of
stderr. The command line parser now complains explicitly about unknown
options.

[007] - codavaj 1.1.0
  by Peter Klauser (http://freshmeat.net/users/pjk/)
  Mon, Nov 14th 2005 17:03

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: codavaj is Javadoc in reverse: a seemingly useless reverse
engineering tool to transform HTML Javadoc into Java source file skeletons
(or a reflection API) like internal representation. You can: convert an
entire local Javadoc tree into Java source code; download an entire remote
Javadoc tree via HTTP(S); and derive a Reflection-like API based on
information derived from a Javadoc tree. It is provided as a Java command
line tool.

Changes: New features include the ability to resolve Class names to
externally linked javadocs. Links to Sun's reference APIs are resolved
automatically (e.g. http://java.sun.com/j2se/X/docs/api/). Any other
external links will need to be given as extra parameters for the codavaj
command. Significant extentions to the reflection-like API to represent
Packages and link Types to their respective Packages and back, and also
represent package heirarchy.

About: DBBrowser is a program that can be used to run queries and view
the structure of databases. It was designed to work with as many RDBMS
systems as possible using JDBC. It uses a plugin API and can connect to
any system for which a JDBC driver exists.

Changes: Fixes a bug in the statement history dialog where the close
button did not close the dialog. More bugfixes in the import tool. It
seems to be stable now, but could still use a good bit of real-world
testing. Support has been added for exporting query results into Microsoft

Changes: This version includes a Gnome Panel Applet to switch between
monitor profiles, i.e. load some monitor parameters (like brightness and
contrast) that you saved before. Some minor features have also been added,
like better multi-screen support. ddccontrol-db should also be upgraded, as
support for many monitors has been added.

Games/Entertainment :: Real Time Strategy
Games/Entertainment :: Turn Based Strategy

About: Freeciv is a multiuser reimplementation for Unix/X of the famous
Microprose game of Civilization. By default, the game is an improved Civ
II, but this can be customized; modpacks for near-100% compatibility with
Civ I and Civ II are included. Multiuser gameplay is real-time: in each
turn, all human players move concurrently. The game is designed to remain
fairly playable even on poor network connections. Freeciv can also be
played on standalone machines, and its AI players are a good challenge for
beginners. The source code comes with the server, two X clients, and non-X
clients for MS Windows and Amiga. Freeciv is released under the GNU
General Public License. It is maintained by an international team of
coders and enthusiasts, and is easily one of the most fun and addictive
network games out there.

Changes: Some translations were updated, fixes were made to certain
nations and flags, and a bug that caused the client to crash when using
the scroll wheel was fixed.

[027] - HAproxy 1.2.7 (Development)
  by Willy Tarreau (http://freshmeat.net/users/wtarreau/)
  Mon, Nov 14th 2005 03:09

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking

About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP/HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, automatic failover,
run-time regex-based header control, advanced logging contents to help
trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and a few other
features. Its own event-driven state machine achieves 10,000 hits per
second on modern hardware, even with thousands of simultaneous
connections. It currently lacks SSL and keep-alive, both of which are
planned.

Changes: Some bugs were fixed after a long code audit. select() could
sometimes spin when no timeout was set. Use of PCRE was ignored on some
systems. Listeners without address or ports remained unnoticed. Critical
errors were displayed during startup even in quiet mode. A workaround was
made for a kernel bug in some epoll implementations. Many other code
cleanups were done. A new TCP keep-alive option was added. The
"static-pcre" build target was added. A README was written to inform about
the build process.

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTML Forms generation and validation is a PHP class that generates
HTML forms supporting keyboard navigation, many built-in validation types
on server and client sides, prevents security attacks by discarding
spoofed values, has multiple submit protection, outputs HTML for fields
displayed as fully accessible or in read-only mode, has field value
filtering based on regular expressions, and has automatic capitalization
of field text. It can be extended with custom input control plug-in
classes. Calendar date, CAPTCHA, and linked select plug-in controls are
available. The form output can be defined with templates using HTML with
embedded PHP or the Smarty template engine.

Changes: An option was added to tell the CAPTCHA validation plug-in class
to change the verification text to a new value every time the user enters
an incorrect text.

Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: mod_libpq is an Apache 1.3 Web server module which maintains
persistent connections to one or more PostgreSQL databases, eliminating
the need for cumbersome middleware "glue". Millions of complex pages can
be fully or partially pre-rendered, stored in a database, and then served
directly to the Web. One database can be associated with the main Apache
server and an additional database can be associated with each virtual host
defined in httpd.conf. Requests are converted into a pair of user
configurable queries which are sent directly to the database via
PostgreSQL's libpq API. The first query processes the request headers and
the second query returns the document content.

Changes: The ability to host multiple databases per server was added by
associating them with virtual hosts.

About: Plait (pronounced "play") is a music query system and music player
front end. It understands brief, easy to type queries that pick a single
song, mix queries that combine works from multiple artists, and stream
queries that find Shoutcast radio streams. A variety of filters are
available to pick just the music you want to hear. In order to actually
play the music it finds, Plait hands off a play list to one of the
supported music players.

Changes: This release adds pass-through commands like "play", "pause", and
"next track", which allow you to background any of the supported players
and control them from the commandline. There are several bugfixes,
including one for a serious bug in "plaiter," the commandline frontend to
commandline music players, which could cause it to lose track of
still-running helper applications in certain circumstances.

Changes: A new minor release that (hopefully) signifies a restart in
development. It fixes critical bugs affecting SDL 1.2.8 under Gentoo and
other systems. There are various security fixes suggested by the Debian
developers.

System :: Systems Administration

About: WPKG is a Samba add-on that will help distribute software,
hotfixes, and patches to many clients. You can easily deploy software,
packages, updates, and changes without the need to manually go from one
workstation to another. You simply configure the software that should be
installed on a given machine or a group of machines, and next time these
workstations are booted, the software you specified is installed
automatically.

Changes: This is a stable release. The execute="always" attribute was
added, so it's now clearer that the "install cmd" will be executed each
time. WPKG can notify the user upon the installation of selected packages
with the notify="true" attribute. Examples on how to start WPKG were
added.
