Communications :: Fax
Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
About: ACaMI is a module-based, object oriented framework to administrate
Asterisk PBX boxes through a Web browser. The main difference between this
and other projects is that ACaMI is based on a small template engine to
separate logic from the output.
Changes: Several changes were made on the dialplan to work with asterisk
1.2.1.

by Vladimir Panov (http://freshmeat.net/users/gbrdead/)
Mon, Jan 2nd 2006 06:33
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Object Brokering :: CORBA
About: autotools-idl is a patch for automake and some autoconf scripts
that adds support for IDL and C++ ORBs. It tries to provide full support
for compiling IDL files to C++ stubs and skeletons. The autoconf scripts
provide unified detection of different C++ ORBs.
Changes: Support for TAO has been added. Various small improvements and
bugfixes were made. Notice that an incompatible change was made in
autoconf-orb: the AC_DEFINE'd upon ORB detection constants have been
prefixed with HAVE_.

Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Hash, and Least
Resource) and a customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It
supports VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) to set up high
availability configurations on multiple nodes. It integrates pcap packet
dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge". It supports "all service load
balancing" based on client IP address which allows almost any protocol to
be supported. It supports single legged operations, either on IP-Level or
as DSR (Direct Server Return / "nPath") configuration.
Changes: A bug in ARP table handling has been fixed.

[004] - BasKet 0.6.0 Alpha 1 (Development)
by Sebien (http://freshmeat.net/users/Sebien/)
Mon, Jan 2nd 2006 00:43
About: BasKet is a desktop organization tool inspired by DropDrawers (from
www.sigsoftware.com). It uses baskets and drawers for organizing various
objects, such as text, URLs, images, sounds, or other documents. Objects
in a basket can be edited, copied, moved, dragged, and so on. This allows
you to stay organized and free your desktop, or to take notes with various
types of content (not only text) in an easy way.
Changes: This release is usable on a daily basis, but not all features are
finished yet. The focus is to make it easier to handle a lot more data by
arranging baskets in a tree, grouping items and collapsing them, starting
up instantly, searching in all baskets at once, tagging items, adding data
where you want with one click, allowing more condensed layouts (columns or
free layout), and moving several items at once. This release is made more
usable with a new way to interact with items, all with one click and no
keyboard modifier. The appearance was enhanced with smooth animated
transitions.

[007] - bogofilter 1.0.1 (Stable)
by Matthias Andree (http://freshmeat.net/users/mandree/)
Mon, Jan 2nd 2006 07:04
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Text Processing :: Filters
About: Bogofilter is a Bayesian spam filter. In its normal mode of
operation, it takes an email message or other text on standard input, does
a statistical check against lists of "good" and "bad" words, and returns a
status code indicating whether or not the message is spam. Bogofilter is
designed with fast algorithms (including Berkeley DB system), coded
directly in C, and tuned for speed, so it can be used for production by
sites that process a lot of mail.
Changes: Some parts of the documentation have been corrected and cleaned
up. A bug in the SQLite3 driver was corrected that could COMMIT rather
than ROLLBACK after an error. The ./configure help texts have been
revised. "make rpm" now includes SQLite3-based RPMs (easier to use) and
provides shared and semi-static binary RPMs for Linux. A maintainer
support script to build low-dependency .a (static) versions of BerkeleyDB
4.2.52.4 and SQLite3.2.8 was added. bogoutil now understands the -O option
to redirect its output.

[010] - Common Configuration Parser 0.1
by Eskild Hustvedt (http://freshmeat.net/users/ZeroDogg/)
Mon, Jan 2nd 2006 22:47
Software Development
System :: Systems Administration
Text Processing :: Filters
About: Common Configuration Parser (CCP) is a program that reads
configuration files and upgrades them. It takes an oldfile (typically the
configuration file currently in use) and a newfile (typically the default
new configuration file) and optionally a template (a file that describes
how the generated configuration file should look) and merges the files
into one, creating a new configuration file that has the changes made to
the old file in addition to the new options included in the new file. It
is completely independent of the program that created the configuration
file, and can be used for many different purposes such as merging changes
between an old user-edited configuration file and a .rpmnew file generated
by RPM during upgrades.

by iaelion (http://freshmeat.net/users/iaelion/)
Mon, Jan 2nd 2006 22:15
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Libraries
About: The cprops (C prototyping tools) library provides linked list,
priority queue, hash table, hash list, and trie implementations in C, as
well as a thread pool and thread management framework and a basic TCP and
HTTP server socket API.
Changes: Man pages were added for the thread framework along with
documentation for the socket and HTTP socket API. The thread pool now
waits on stopping threads and is signalled when returning a thread. HTTP
service routing can now be done by prefix rather than full string match.
Doxygen directives were added for documentation. A thread pool bug with
pending requests at shutdown time was fixed.

[012] - Dada Mail 2.10.4
by justin simoni (http://freshmeat.net/users/skazat/)
Mon, Jan 2nd 2006 14:16
Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: Dada Mail is an intuitive, Web-based email list management system,
which runs on any hosting account that can execute custom CGI scripts.
Dada Mail is also a conceptual art project. Dada Mail handles double
opt-in/opt-out subscriptions, and can send complex announce-only and/or
discussion mailing list messages. It also provides archiving, viewing,
searching, resending, and syndicating (through RSS or Atom) sent messages.
Dada Mail produces valid XHTML and sticks to best practices when creating
email messages.
Changes: This release features updates to the feed capabilities of Dada
Mail. RSS has been updated to 2.0 from .91, and Atom has been updated from
03 to 1.0. Since Atom version .03 has been officially deprecated, it is
advised that you upgrade if you do rely on this feature.

[013] - Daikon 4.2.1
by Jeff Perkins (http://freshmeat.net/users/jhpnez/)
Mon, Jan 2nd 2006 00:57
Documentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely
invariants. An invariant is a property (such as "x=2*y+5" or
"this.next.prev = this" or "myarray is sorted by <") that holds at a
certain point or points in a program. Invariants are often seen in assert
statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be
useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Daikon
runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then
reports properties that were true over the observed executions. It can
detect properties in Java, C, C++, Perl, and IOA programs, in spreadsheet
files, and in other data sources.
Changes: Enhancements were made to the Mangel-Wurzel and Kvasir front
ends. Mangel-Wurzel better supports arrays, C++, and regular expressions
for specifying program point names. Some Kvasir command line options were
updated.

[015] - Dump/Restore 0.4b41
by Stelian Pop (http://freshmeat.net/users/spop/)
Mon, Jan 2nd 2006 11:32
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Filesystems
About: The dump package contains both dump and restore. Dump examines
files in a filesystem, determines which ones need to be backed up, and
copies those files to a specified disk, tape or other storage medium. The
restore command performs the inverse function of dump; it can restore a
full backup of a filesystem. Subsequent incremental backups can then be
layered on top of the full backup. Single files and directory subtrees may
also be restored from full or partial backups.
Changes: This is a maintenance release, fixing a few bugs related to the
restoration of ACLs and huge backups (symtab over 2GB in size). The
directory hash indexing has been made optional since it may require too
much memory when restoring huge backups.

Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development :: Widget Sets
About: The GtkDatabox widget (for use with the GTK+ widget set) is used to
display large amounts of numerical data in graphical representation.
Several sets of data may be shown at one time. You may zoom in and out and
navigate via scrollbars. The display of data is rather fast, so you can use
the widget for quickly changing data (i.e. an oscilloscope for example) as
well. The widget has already been adapted to several scientific projects
around the world.
Changes: A bugfix to enhance portability.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: HTML Forms generation and validation is a PHP class that generates
HTML forms supporting keyboard navigation, many built-in validation types
on server and client sides, prevents security attacks by discarding
spoofed values, has multiple submit protection, outputs HTML for fields
displayed as fully accessible or in read-only mode, has field value
filtering based on regular expressions, and has automatic capitalization
of field text. It can be extended with custom input control plug-in
classes. Calendar date, CAPTCHA, and linked select plug-in controls are
available. The form output can be defined with templates using HTML with
embedded PHP or the Smarty template engine.
Changes: The linked select custom input plug-in class was enhanced to
optionally switch the select options by retrieving from the server using
AJAX. Two new sub-classes of the linked select custom input plug-in were
added to retrieve the alternative options groups from a MySQL database or
any other database supported by the Metabase PHP abstraction layer like
PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL server, etc.. A bug in the encoding of
HTML tag attributes and data was fixed to make form pages display
correctly when the character set is not ISO-8859-1.

Software Development :: Libraries
About: Mapnik is a toolkit for developing GIS applications. At the core is
a C++ shared library providing algorithms/patterns for spatial data access
and visualization. Essentially a collection of geographic objects (map,
layer, datasource, feature, and geometry), the library doesn't rely on
"windowing systems" and can be deployed in any server environment. It is
intended to play fair in a multi-threaded environment and is aimed
primarily, but not exclusively, at Web-based development. High-level
Python bindings (boost.python) facilitate rapid application development,
targeting zope3, django, etc.
Changes: This release adds serialization support for map definition
objects (Text, XML, and binary), alpha blending for symbols, and some
performance and portability improvements. Several bugs/features were
corrected, including the bug in the shape data source that prevented
attributes being read for point/pointz/pointm geometries.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Metastorage is a PHP data access object generator compiler tool. It
implements an object persistence API from a description in an XML format
named CPML. The persistent object classes implement object-relational
mappings, so developers do not have to write SQL manually. It features an
object query language for specifying conditions for querying objects,
generation of classes for producing reports, generation of classes to
manage templated Web forms for creating new persistent objects, and
generation of UML class diagrams. It can be run from the command line or
from a Web interface.
Changes: This maintenance release included a fix for a bug that would make
the code generator fail in error in certain cases. The bug was harmful
because it would only make the compiler stop sometimes without generating
any code. When it would not fail, the generated code was correct.

[047] - nedmalloc 1.00
by Niall Douglas (http://freshmeat.net/users/ned14/)
Mon, Jan 2nd 2006 22:48
Software Development
About: nedmalloc is an alternative malloc implementation for multiple
threads without lock contention based on dlmalloc 2.8.3. It is more or
less a newer implementation of ptmalloc2, the standard allocator in Linux
(which is based on dlmalloc 2.7.0) but also contains a per-thread cache
for maximum CPU scalability.
Changes: This version is more than 125 times faster than the standard
Win32 memory allocator, 4-10 times faster than the standard FreeBSD memory
allocator, and up to twice as fast as ptmalloc2, the standard Linux memory
allocator. It can sustain between 7.3 M and 8.2 M malloc and free pair
operations per second on a 2200MHz AMD Athlon64 machine, and scales with
extra CPUs far better than either the standard Win32 memory allocator or
ptmalloc2 and can cause significantly less memory bloating than ptmalloc2.
It avoids processor serialisation (locking) entirely when the requested
memory size is in the thread cache.

Mon, Jan 2nd 2006 14:32
Internet
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
Utilities
About: psync is a distribution mirroring utility. Its main goal is to be
able to update a distribution mirror but keep it as consistent as
possible. It also aims to support as many distributions as possible. It's
more like debmirror, but with more distros (repo types) support. One of
the main problems updating a mirror is that if the mirroring process is
stopped for any reason, the mirror stays inconsistent: either some of the
packages in the old databases were removed, or not all the new packages
were downloaded. psync aims to fix this.
Changes: This release adds full support for Urpmi repositories, support
for several archs and downloading of Release files for Debian
repositories, more verbose help, a much better summary email with total
MiB per module, more examples in the config file, and a lot of docs, both
in the project site and the distribution package. Minor details include
better info when not in verbose or debug mode, processing the rest of the
repo even if there was some problem with one module, failing on `disk

[058] - rdup 0.1.1
by Miek Gieben (http://freshmeat.net/users/miek/)
Mon, Jan 2nd 2006 09:28
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: rdup is a utility inspired by rsync and the Plan9 way of doing
backups. rdup itself does not backup anything; it only prints a list of
the names of files that have changed since the last backup. Auxilary
scripts are needed to act on this list and implement the backup strategy.
This way rdup can be kept lean and mean.
Changes: strcmp() is used instead of g_ascii_strcasecmp() as case is
significant in Unix filesystems. Manual pages and shells scripts were
improved.

Text Processing :: Bibliography
About: refdb-mode is a minor mode for Emacs which implements an interface
to RefDB, a reference management and bibliography tool for SGML and XML
documents. It integrates nicely with psgml and nxml-mode. refdb-mode
provides the complete functionality of the RefDB command line clients from
a graphical interface. You can add and edit references, notes, and styles,
run queries, and insert the results as citations into your DocBook or TEI
documents. You can also create, transform, and view these documents with a
mouseclick. This amounts to an integrated authoring environment for markup
languages with reference management and bibliography support.
Changes: Viewing the transformed documents now works on all platforms for
both HTML and printable output. The manual is now also installed as an
info file and is browsable from within Emacs through a new menu command.

[062] - runit 1.3.3 (Development)
by Gerrit Pape (http://freshmeat.net/users/pape/)
Mon, Jan 2nd 2006 14:19
System :: Boot :: Init
About: runit is a cross-platform Unix init scheme with service
supervision; a replacement for sysvinit and other init schemes. It runs on
GNU/Linux, *BSD, Mac OS X, and Solaris, and can easily be adapted to other
Unix operating systems. runit implements a simple three-stage concept.
Stage 1 performs the system's one-time initialization tasks. Stage 2
starts the system's uptime services (via the runsvdir program). Stage 3
handles the tasks necessary to shutdown and halt or reboot.
Changes: The sv program supports the additional command 'check' to check
the requested states of services, utilizing the ./check script if a
service is defined to be up. The change-process-state program chpst has
been fixed to set limits and adjust nice value first before optionally
dropping permissions.

[082] - WordGenerator 1.2
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Mon, Jan 2nd 2006 14:28
Text Processing :: Linguistic
About: WordGenerator generates hypothetical words from specifications of
their syllable structure. The user specifies the maximum length of the
words in syllables, the abstract structure of syllables in the language
(in terms of such units as consonants and vowels or onsets and rhymes),
and the actual sounds that comprise each abstract class (e.g. the list of
vowels in the language); WordGenerator then generates the words that
conform to this specification. Such lists are useful to field linguists
exploring the vocabulary of a language, and to designers of artificial
languages.
Changes: Selected text is now exported for copy and pasting in the About,
Bug Report, How To, and Macintosh Notes popups. Validation of codepoints
in the popup for entering characters by codepoint has been improved. The
message window is now cleared at the beginning of each attempt to insert a
character. Less garish colors have been used.
