[001] - Ampache 3.3.2 Beta1 (Development)
  by Karl Vollmer (http://freshmeat.net/users/vollmerk/)
  Mon, Jan 9th 2006 04:18

Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Ampache is a Web-based MP3/Ogg/RM/Flac/WMA/M4A manager. It allows
you to view, edit, and play your audio files via HTTP/IceCast/Mpd or
Moosic. It has support for downsampling, playlists, artist, and album
views, album art, random play, song play tracking, user themes, and remote
catalogs using XML-RPC.

Changes: The major additions in this version are a revamped registration
module, dynamic playlist tracks which are based on search results, and
Mysql5.x support. The install script has been improved so that it throws
errors instead of failing silently. A few remaining theme issues have been
resolved, and all old themes should work again without any modifications.
An experimental sorting script has also been added.

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
System :: Software Distribution

About: BitTorrent is a tool for copying files from one machine to another.
FTP punishes sites for being popular. Since all uploading is done from one
place, a popular site needs big iron and big bandwidth. With BitTorrent,
clients automatically mirror files they download, making the publisher's
burden almost nothing.

Changes: The status light state machine was improved and a "signal
strength" indicator was added. Fastresume error messages were fixed.
Several IPC bugs and other bugs were fixed.

[020] - Fast Messaging Peer to Peer 0.7.1

  Mon, Jan 9th 2006 23:29

Communications :: Chat
Communications :: File Sharing

About: Fast Messaging Peer to Peer (FM P2P) is a simple P2P program that
forms a TCP-based overlay network by which a user may chat or share
files. It is targetted at smaller networks and is not the most efficient
system in the world. It was designed to resolve the frustration of using
many different workstations with different operating systems and having
no way to easily transfer files or move notes.

Changes: A major change was made to the way a node learns about other
nodes. TCUP now carries layer 3 and 4 information related to that node's
outbound connections. Other nodes may observe outbound connection
annoucements and act accordingly. Also, distance is traced, allowing the
TCUP node to build a link state database. All outbound connections are
still driven by the FM layer's NodeManager module. This module now has the
notion of Ignore and Seed lists. Many bugs were fixed.

[029] - HA/FST 3.0 (Solaris SPARC)
  by Foundation Software Tools (http://freshmeat.net/users/reggiebeavers/)
  Mon, Jan 9th 2006 10:26

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Systems Administration

About: HA/FST is a high availability clustering tool for up to four
Solaris nodes. It supports any application that can be managed from the
command line. It comes with support for NIC failover, Apache, Oracle, NFS,
Samba, Solaris Volume Manager, Veritas Volume Manager, and application
fallback and failto.

Changes: The requirement for a license to use extended features was
removed, and the source code was released under the GNU GPL. If virtual
host takeover occurred on the last node in the cluster, the bringup is no
longer liable to be attempted on any random node. Using a reservation disk
no longer results in bringing the cluster down due to remaining nodes'
inability to lock a disk until SCSI timeout occurs. Label corrections in
fsthamon and minor documentation corrections were made.

[030] - HTTP client request class 2006.01.09
  by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
  Mon, Jan 9th 2006 23:35

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTTP client is a PHP class to make HTTP requests. It can submit
requests via a proxy server, establish secure connections (HTTPS) via a
proxy server, PHP with OpenSSL support, or the Curl library with optional
SSL client certificates. It supports HTTP authentication directly or via
proxy using the SASL library, like HTTP Basic, HTTP Digest, and NTLM
(Windows or Samba). It submits POST requests with user-defined form
values, file uploading, or with user-defined request bodies. It retrieves
the HTTP response headers and body data separately. It handles cookies and
automatic redirection handling.

Changes: Support for sending POST requests with body stream parts made of
an arbitrary sequence of either of string data or data files was added. A
bug in error handling when a premature end of the HTTP response header
lines was found was fixed. Custom request headers and body data is now
resent correctly during the authentication dialog.

[032] - Jhead 2.5
  by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
  Mon, Jan 9th 2006 04:45

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: Jhead is a command line driven utility for extracting digital
camera settings from the Exif format files used by many digital cameras.
It handles the various confusing ways these can be expressed, and displays
them as F-stop, shutter speed, etc. It is also able to reduce the size of
digital camera JPEGs without loss of information, by deleting integral
thumbnails that digital cameras put into the Exif header. If you need to
add Exif support to a program, this is a simple program to cut and paste
from. Many projects, including PHP, have reused code from this utility.

Changes: A fix was made to avoid the duplication of the EXIF header on
some commands. Files permissions and times are now preserved at
modification. A new "-rt" option for replacing thumbnails and "-rgt" for
regenerating thumbnails were added, and thumbnails are now also
auto=rotated along with the image. New "-orp" and "-orl" options were
added to operate only on portrait or landscape aspect ratio images. The
program's return codes were fixed.

[034] - libmhash 0.9.4a
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Mon, Jan 9th 2006 23:39

Software Development :: Libraries

About: mhash is a thread-safe hash library implemented in C, and provides
a uniform interface to a large number of hash algorithms (MD5, SHA-1,
HAVAL, RIPEMD160, TIGER, GOST). These algorithms can be used to compute
checksums, message digests, and other signatures. The HMAC support
implements the basics for message authentication, following RFC 2104.

Changes: Unsigned data types are now used wherever possible. Core
functions now validate inputs. Duplicate functions have largely been
removed. System headers are now only included if they exist. Minor code
speedups were made and an alternative function numbering scheme was
implemented along with better support for weird compilers.

About: The Prelude Library (libprelude) is the glue that binds all aspects
of Prelude together. It is a library which enables Prelude components to
communicate with the Prelude Manager. It also makes it easy for third
party software to be made 'Prelude Aware' (able to communicate with
Prelude components). It provide common, useful features used by every
sensor.

Changes: This release implemented analyzer revocation in prelude-adduser
(which will require an upcoming prelude-manager update so that revoked
analyzer are denied connections). prelude-adduser now uses GnuTLS
anonymous authentication in the event that SRP is not available, which is
becoming a requirement since some distributions disable SRP support due to
patent issues. A crash that occurred when providing prelude-adduser with a
specific option was fixed along with a potential OpenBSD compilation issue
due to a missing dependency in the GnuLib inet_ntop module.

About: phc is a compiler for PHP that will translate PHP code directly

developing refactoring tools, aspect weavers, script obfuscators, and any
other tools that operate on PHP scripts.

Changes: This release contains two minor bugfixes and a number of minor
feature enhancements. The most important change is that "global"
statements are no longer represented explicitly in the tree, but are
represented in terms of reference assignments (see "Converting PHP" for
details). Further, the abstract grammar has been modified slightly to make
it easier to use and more consistent. Finally, the operation of the

Changes: This version adds support for the scp file copy protocol for
copying files to remotely located hosts. Also, there are improvements to
the logging. It seemed that some people had trouble typing the fromDir and
toDir paths. A simple check to see if these paths exist has been added.
Hopefully this will make it easier to debug a configuration. Also, the

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: PLPA is an attempt to solve the problem of multiple API's for
processor affinity within Linux. Specifically, the functions
sched_setaffinity() and sched_getaffinity() have numbers and types of
parameters depending on your Linux vendor and/or version of GLibc. This is
quite problematic for applications attempting to use processor affinity in
Linux for compile-time, link-time, and run-time reasons. The PLPA provides
a single processor affinity API that developers can write to in order to
get both consistent behavior and binary compatibility across different
Linux installations (assuming that you have an executable that is
otherwise binary Linux portable).

since version 0.9a2 except the version number.

  by Jason Hooks (http://freshmeat.net/users/jhooks/)
  Mon, Jan 9th 2006 09:40

Communications
Internet
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: Stream-2-Stream (abbreviated "s2s" or "S2S") allows anyone with a
normal broadband connection to set up their own Internet television or
radio station. Stations have no user limit, and can be set up without
paying a fortune for bandwidth. Stream-2-Stream saves bandwidth by passing
streams from one peer to another, rather than everyone getting a stream
from one central server (Shoutcast/Icecast). Supported codecs are MP3,
NSV, and Ogg Vorbis.

Changes: A volume slider was added. The server accepting code is slightly
more efficient. The server options panel was cleaned up. A station viewer
was added. Ogg recording was fixed.

[061] - strongSwan 2.6.0
  by Andreas Steffen (http://freshmeat.net/users/asteffen/)
  Mon, Jan 9th 2006 04:37

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: strongSwan is a complete IPsec and IKEv1 implementation for Linux
2.4 and 2.6 kernels. It interoperates with most other IPsec-based VPN
products. It is a descendant of the discontinued FreeS/WAN project. The
focus of the strongSwan project is on strong authentication mechanisms
using X.509 public key certificates and optional secure storage of private
keys on smartcards through a standardized PKCS#11 interface. A unique
feature is the use of X.509 attribute certificates to implement advanced
access control schemes based on group memberships.

Changes: A new "ipsec starter" utility that sets up and updates
connections much faster then the existing awk-based "ipsec setup" script
was added. It also provides an update option that only reloads connections
that have changed in ipsec.conf. "ipsec start --auto_update 60"
automatically checks for changes every 60 seconds. Thus if the
%defaultroute parameter is used to designate Pluto's own IP address, then
dynamic address or network interface changes can be handled without the
need to restart Pluto.

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: The finite element package SyFi is a C++ library built on top of
the symbolic math library GiNaC. The name SyFi stands for Symbolic Finite
Elements. The package provides polygonal domains, polynomial spaces, and
degrees of freedom as symbolic expressions that are easily manipulated.
This makes it easy to define finite elements.

Changes: This release adds Bernstein polynomials, Crouzeix-Raviart and
Raviart-Thomas elements, Python support, and computation of the Jacobian
of a nonlinear convection diffusion problem based on symbolic
differentiation.

[065] - Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations 30
  by Dennis Darland (http://freshmeat.net/users/djdarland/)
  Mon, Jan 9th 2006 08:31

About: SODE uses long Taylor series to solve systems of ordinary
differential equations. It generates code to solve the equations in either
Icon (or Unicon) or Maple. Using the Taylor series, estimates are made of
the location and order of poles. An effort is made to adjust H to control
the error. It has worked well in testing, but needs more testing as there
are so many possibilities. To solve STIFF equations, MAX_TERMS may be set.
Differentiation done automatically.

Changes: The calculation of the step size and order of Taylor series used
were greatly improved. A bug in diffs on RHS were also fixed.
