Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: amoeba is an XML-based framework for Web environment development
backed by XML databases (Berkeley DB XML or eXist native XML database).
It's deployable as a war archive in servlet containers (like Tomcat and/or
Jetty). Almost no Java knowledge or Java programming is required while
developing with amoeba, except for extending base framework functionality.
Programming in amoeba means writing XML documents. The environment has
seven domain-specific languages: pipeline (general XML processing using
language features and by calling tasks), sitemap (for connecting the Web
environment to all other languages), form (HTTP forms processing),
modification (XML document modifications), resource (file resource
processing), berkeley-db-xml, and test (unit testing and XML Diff).
Changes: The pipeline profiler has been added. A bug that led to incorrect
document location information in error messages has been fixed.

About: In Angry, Drunken Dwarves, you are an angry, drunken dwarf. Why are
you so angry? Who knows. But you've decided to take your aggression out on
other dwarves, by dropping gems on their heads. Lots of gems. It is a
member of the classic "falling blocks" puzzle game family, similar to the
Capcom game Puzzle Fighter. The goal of the game is to build large gems by
matching up colors, then break them, raining more gems down onto your
opponent. The first person whose field fills up, loses.

[013] - Common Configuration Parser 0.2.2
by Eskild Hustvedt (http://freshmeat.net/users/ZeroDogg/)
Thu, Jan 12th 2006 13:59
Software Development
System :: Systems Administration
Text Processing :: Filters
About: Common Configuration Parser (CCP) is a program that reads
configuration files and upgrades them. It takes an oldfile (typically the
configuration file currently in use) and a newfile (typically the default
new configuration file) and optionally a template (a file that describes
how the generated configuration file should look) and merges the files
into one, creating a new configuration file that has the changes made to
the old file in addition to the new options included in the new file. It
is completely independent of the program that created the configuration
file, and can be used for many different purposes such as merging changes
between an old user-edited configuration file and a .rpmnew file generated
by RPM during upgrades.
Changes: This release fixes handling of ; comments (php.ini can now be
successfully upgraded). The CCP_DISABLE and CCP_PARANOID environment
variables have been added, as well as ccp paranoid mode. Some additional
error recovery code has been added. --ifexists now works as documented.

by Eli Barzilay (http://freshmeat.net/users/elibarzilay/)
Thu, Jan 12th 2006 19:29
Education
Scientific/Engineering
Software Development
About: DrScheme is a graphical environment for developing programs using
the Scheme, MzScheme, and MrEd programming languages. DrScheme runs under
Windows 95/98/NT, MacOS, and Unix/X. DrScheme's features include source
text highlighting of syntax and run-time errors, support for multiple
levels of Scheme from beginner to advanced, an algebraic stepper for the
beginner language, interactive and graphical static analysis, a graphical
user interface (GUI) library, objects, threads, modules, exceptions,
TCP/IP, regular expressions, and filesystem support.
Changes: This is a minor update of v300 to repair one serious bug: when a
graphical DrScheme file contains a byte string that is longer than 64
bytes, opening the file could sometimes crash DrScheme. In addition, a few
minor bugs have been fixed. For example, the "Collapse S-expression" editor
operation no longer inserts garbage whitespace into the collapsed
expression, right-clicking a parenthesis in text mode does not trigger an
internal error, the debugger status display is fixed for Unix/X, and the
planet --remove flag works correctly.

[027] - H2 Database Engine 0.9.1
by ThomasM (http://freshmeat.net/users/ThomasMueller/)
Thu, Jan 12th 2006 20:05
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
About: H2 is an SQL database engine written in Java (but also available as
a native binary). JDBC and ODBC APIs are supported. Embedded and server
modes are available. A Web console application is included. Clustering is
supported.
Changes: Many bugs were fixed. The tools API is now simpler to use. The
database engine now uses less memory and re-uses disk space after deleting
data. The binary storage format is now enabled by default, improving
performance. The encryption algorithms are now accessible as database
functions. The console application was translated to French.

[028] - HA/FST 3.0.1 (Solaris x86)
by Foundation Software Tools (http://freshmeat.net/users/reggiebeavers/)
Thu, Jan 12th 2006 20:01
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Systems Administration
About: HA/FST is a high availability clustering tool for up to four
Solaris nodes. It supports any application that can be managed from the
command line. It comes with support for NIC failover, Apache, Oracle, NFS,
Samba, Solaris Volume Manager, Veritas Volume Manager, and application
fallback and failto.
Changes: The requirement for a license to use extended features was
removed, and the source code was released under the GNU GPL. If virtual
host takeover occurred on the last node in the cluster, the bringup is no
longer liable to be attempted on any random node. Using a reservation disk
no longer results in bringing the cluster down due to remaining nodes'
inability to lock a disk until SCSI timeout occurs. Label corrections in
fsthamon and minor documentation corrections were made.

[030] - JNIWrapper 3.0
by Eugene Toporov (http://freshmeat.net/users/etoporov/)
Thu, Jan 12th 2006 02:20
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: JNIWrapper allows Java applications to invoke any function with any
parameters from a native code library. It support for both stdcall and
cdecl calling conventions, many data types including structures, unions,
and pointers, and callbacks with any types of parameters. It is specially
tuned for operations with large amounts of complex native-side data, and
features an extensible architecture that allows for new data types to be
implemented or existing ones customized.
Changes: Support for the Mac OS X platform along with wrappers for the
whole Cocoa API, code generation for creating Java wrappers over custom C
types, such as unions, structures, and callbacks, the ability to keep a
native library in a JAR file and extract or install this library on
demand, automatic wrapping of the ArrayParamter object to Pointer during a
function call, the ability to specify calling convention for Library and
therefore, for all its functions, and the ability to copy custom libraries
to the client side by using the AppletHelper class. There were also other
improvements and fixes.

by le petit fou (http://freshmeat.net/users/lefou/)
Thu, Jan 12th 2006 04:48
Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Utilities
About: KThinkBat is a laptop battery monitor for the KDE Kicker. It is
inspired by the "Battery Maximizer" included with IBM ThinkPads (now
Levono). There is already a standard battery monitor KDE application, but
it is simply too small to see the real battery charge at a glance.
Features include display of current battery strength as a percentage, and
visually as a gauge, display of the current online/offline state, and
display of the current power consumption in W (or A on Asus Laptops).
Changes: A tp_smapi sysfs interface for ThinkPads was implemented. The
current power consumption display can now be displayed to the right of
instead of below the battery gauge. Battery handling was refactored into a
separate class. Asus power consumption is now shown in 100 mA steps.

connectivity to users behind NAT devices, most of which do not support
IPv6, and not even Proto-41 forwarding.
Changes: The peers list can now use Judy dynamic arrays, so that it can
typically handle about one million peers instead of one thousand. It also
includes a garbage collector, and is properly emptied when the connection
resets. Echo Requests and Teredo bubbles new timings obey Teredo draft 05

System :: Monitoring
About: Monit is a utility for managing and monitoring processes, files,
directories, and devices on a Unix system. It conducts automatic
maintenance and repair and can execute meaningful causal actions in error
situations. It can be used to monitor files, directories, and devices for
changes, such as timestamps changes, checksum changes, or size changes. It
is controlled via an easy to configure control file based on a free-format,
token-oriented syntax. It logs to syslog or to its own log file and
notifies users about error conditions via customizable alert messages. It
can perform various TCP/IP network checks, protocol checks, and can
utilize SSL for such checks. It provides an HTTP(S) interface for access.
Changes: This release featured improved speed of several network tests,
system-wide resource checks such as CPU, memory usage, and load average,
and the ability to send alerts where the program starts, stops, or
reloads. Event queue support was added for cases where there is no mail
server available for alert delivery. A native Oracle TNS protocol test was

About: nrsTable is a JavaScript script that will allow a developer to
create HTML tables from arrays. The tables can be automatically sorted
simply by clicking on the heading. A lot of customization can be done for
the tables, such as colors, pages, captions, and more.
Changes: This fixes a major bug that was stopping the JavaScript in the
page. The error was that quicksort did not like calling outside functions.
So instead, this fix splits the natural compare sort (which is now a bubble
sort) and the regular sort (which is still a quicksort), and fixes the
problem. This release also adds a minor feature of being able to disable

Office/Business :: Office Suites
About: Osmose is a tool to prepare multimedia presentations. It has been
tested under Mac OS X (Panther and Tiger), Linux, and Windows XP with Java
1.4.2. It allows you to print the presentations and to visualize them on
the screen and on the Web in HTML (under Mac OS X, it is also easy to
create PDF files from your presentations). Osmose is based on a research
work that proposes a new way to create digital documents. Rather than
WYSIWYG, it is a more complete way of working that articulates working on
the content, adding multimedia files, and working on the style using a
graphic theme.
Changes: The conception document was translated into English. A label was
added for the HTML title. The correct fonts are now used when exporting to
HTML and links are now correctly redrawn when the window is resized. "Fin
du diaporama" was translated. Bold and italic styles are now allowed only

[074] - uni2ascii 3.1
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Thu, Jan 12th 2006 00:54
Software Development
Text Processing :: General
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
About: uni2ascii and ascii2uni convert between UTF-8 Unicode and more than
a dozen 7-bit ASCII equivalents including: hexadecimal and decimal HTML
numeric character references, \u-escapes, standard hexadecimal, raw
hexadecimal, and RFC2396 URI format. Such ASCII equivalents are
encountered in a variety of circumstances, such as when Unicode text is
included in program source, when entering text into Web programs that can
handle the Unicode character set but are not 8-bit safe, and when
debugging. An optional GUI is provided.
Changes: Options were added to uni2ascii for converting non-ASCII
characters to related ASCII characters instead of to a textual
representation. One option converts stylistic variants such as boldface, a
second converts characters enclosed in circles or parentheses to the
unenclosed character, a third option removes diacritics, and a fourth
option converts functional equivalents, such as dashes of various lengths
to a hyphen.
