[006] - Autojar 1.3
  by Bernd Eggink (http://freshmeat.net/users/monoped/)
  Tue, Jan 24th 2006 11:55

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Autojar helps create jar files of minimal size from different
inputs (classes, external archives, etc.). It starts from one or more
given classes (e.g., an applet), recursively searches the bytecode for
references to other classes, extracts these classes from the input
archives, and copies them to the output. The resulting archive will only
contain the classes that are really needed, so the size and loading time
of applets can be kept low, and applications can be made independent of
installed libraries. In a similar way, Autojar can search directories and
archives for other resources like image files, extract them, and copy them
to the output.

Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Desktop Environment :: Tools
Software Development

About: BitRock InstallBuilder allows you to create easy-to-use installers
for Linux (x86/PPC), Windows, OS X, FreeBSD, Solaris (x86/Sparc), IRIX,
AIX, and HP-UX applications. The generated installer for an application
has a native look-and-feel and no external dependencies, and can be run in
GUI, text, and unattended modes.

Changes: This release adds new actions for adding and deleting users and
groups on Unix platforms, waiting a specified amount of time, checking if
a program exists in the search path, and checking whether a TCP/IP port is
already in use. The installer now issues a warning when there is already an
instance of the installer running.

[012] - Botan 1.5.3 (Development)
  by Jack Lloyd (http://freshmeat.net/users/randombit/)
  Tue, Jan 24th 2006 11:18

Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Botan is a C++ library of cryptographic algorithms. It includes a
wide selection of cryptographic algorithms (including AES, DES, SHA-1,
RSA, and DSA, among many others). It also support X.509 certificates and
several common certificate-related formats and protocols. It has a high
level interface, is easily portable to most systems and compilers, and
includes a substantial tutorial and API reference.

Changes: This release fixes bugs in zlib/bzip2 decompression, certificate
generation, and the 64-bit assembly code module. Montgomery exponentiation
has been optimized; on an x86-64 system, RSA in 1.5.3 is now 3 to 10 times
faster than the latest stable release. Some code was restructured or
rearranged to make assembly implementations simpler.

  Tue, Jan 24th 2006 03:07

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Address Book
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)

About: Brutus is an Exchange connector and development framework that
offers access to all of MAPI and therefore to all versions of Microsoft
Exchange from version 5.5 onwards. It is a complete wrapping of all of
MAPI into a (large) set of CORBA interfaces. It enables any groupware
client to integrate seamlessly into any organization with large Exchange
deployments on an equal footing with MS Outlook. Being based on CORBA, it
is platform independent, and works equally well on Linux, the BSDs,
Windows, or wherever there is a CORBA implementation available.

Changes: The mail component is now more usable. Sending and receiving mail
directly via Exchange is now functional, despite a few small issues that
continues to make it unsuitable for production usage. A couple of
performance improvements were made in the Brutus Server.

  Tue, Jan 24th 2006 09:00

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: Connect Daily, a Web-based calendaring system, allows multiple
users to add and edit calendar events using a Web browser. The calendar
display can be directly integrated into your Web site. It provides
advanced capabilities for managing resources and facilities. The approval
processes allow many users to edit calendars, with the assurance that all
items added are approved. It supports event download to MS Outlook and
Palm OS PDAs. Export to iCal clients like KOrganizer, Evolution, and Apple
iCal is supported. Authentication to LDAP directories is also supported.

Changes: When printing calendars, the system menu is now hidden. Imported
iCal events that don't have a duration or end time will now have a default
end time of 23:59 on the start day. The "mail password" screen now makes it
clear that the password will be reset. The tip window is now displayed
inline on the welcome page, not in a popup. Tips have been revised to be
more useful and have links to tutorials and documentation. iCal
importation no longer fails if the system is set to 24 hour mode and
correctly handles durations that are not whole days. A security issue
relating to anonymous calendar viewing has been fixed.

  Tue, Jan 24th 2006 13:33

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3

About: DerMixD is an audio mixing and network-listening daemon that is
similar to mixplayd but quite different in its implementation. It supports
the playing of music files on a run-time configurable number of input
channels, mixing them together and producing output on a run-time
configurable number of output channels. It is controlled over a TCP socket
and supports pitch shifting, scripting, gapless playing of tracks,
including filtering of null samples from padding, use of mpg123's
equalizer, flexible input/output connection, and more.

Changes: Some bugs were fixed (including stabilization of the mono support
in zero padding removal) and the configurability was enhanced (more options
for mpg123 input tunable). It is now possible to play MP3 HTTP streams
using mpg123 thanks to a less strict file existence check, which excludes
"file names" starting with http:// . Be aware that trying to load a stream
in a format other than MP3/MP2 may yield unexpected results.

[026] - dwdiff 1.1
  by gphalkes (http://freshmeat.net/users/gphalkes/)
  Tue, Jan 24th 2006 00:43

Text Processing

About: dwdiff is a front-end for the diff program that operates at the
word level instead of the line level. It is different from wdiff in that
it allows the user to specify what should be considered whitespace, and
in that it takes an optional list of characters that should be considered
delimiters. Delimiters are single characters that are treated as if they
are words, even when there is no whitespace separating them from
preceding words or delimiters. dwdiff is mostly commandline compatible
with wdiff. The default output from dwdiff is the new text, with the
deleted and inserted parts annotated with markers. Command line options
are available to change both what is printed and the markers.

Changes: Many of the restrictions of the previous release were removed.
The ability to read from standard in was added along with escape
interpretation for all strings passed as options.

About: MIMEDefang is a flexible MIME email scanner designed to do all
kinds of email processing, including anti-virus scanning, anti-spam
scanning, replacing parts of messages with URLs, adding boilerplate
disclaimers, and so on. It can alter or delete various parts of a MIME
message according to a Perl-based policy filter. It can also bounce
messages with unacceptable attachments and modify SMTP response codes on
the fly. It works with the Sendmail 8.11 and newer "Milter" API, which
makes it more flexible and efficient than procmail-based approaches.

Changes: A new option allows you to reserve some slaves for connections
from localhost; this helps clientmqueue runs to succeed on busy servers.
Modern Vexira anti-virus scanners are supported; versions older than
Spring 2005 are no longer supported. A new "filter_helo" callback lets you
take action in response to HELO/EHLO. A new "action_insert_header" function
lets you prepend headers (rather than just appending them). A new function
lets you reject mail from hosts with bogus MX records; for example, MX
records that resolve to private IP networks or the loopback address.

  by Paolo Lucente (http://freshmeat.net/users/plucente/)
  Tue, Jan 24th 2006 00:45

Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: pmacct is a small set of IPv4/IPv6 accounting and aggregation
tools. A pluggable architecture allows you to store collected traffic data
into memory tables or SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite 3.x) databases. It
supports fully customizable historical data breakdown, flow sampling,
filtering and tagging, recovery actions, and triggers. Libpcap, NetFlow
v1/v5/v7/v8/v9, and sFlow v2/v4/v5 are supported, both unicast and
multicast. Also, a client program makes it easy to export data to tools
like RRDtool, GNUPlot, Net-SNMP, MRTG, and Cacti.

Changes: L7 packet classification was introduced. The approach is flexible
and uses the L7-filter project's regular expression patterns, which are
loaded at runtime. A new 'sql_aggressive_classification' directive was
added to allow the classification of packets even if they are no longer
cached by the SQL plugin by firing negative UPDATE SQL queries.
Input/Output interface fields (Pre-Tagging) were set to 32 bits wide to
better deal with some sFlow agents. Some flow filtering problems that were
noticed while handling MPLS-tagged flows inside NetFlow v9 datagrams were
fixed.

defines a vocabulary for expressing flat-XML, XML-flat, flat-flat, and
XML-XML transformations in pipelines. The accompanying console app
supports reading content as XML files, flat files, SQL queries, or SAX
events, and writing it as XML, HTML, PDF, or mail attachments. This
software is especially suited for converting flat file or database records
to XML, with its support for namespaces, variant record types, multi-valued
fields, segments and repeating groups, hierarchical grouping of records,
and row-by-row validation with XML Schema. There is also an API for
embedding the software in a Java application.

About: Stunnix CXX-Obfus is a code obfuscator for C and C++ source code.
It converts source code into highly a mangled form, making it extremely
difficult for competitors or customers to study, analyze, reuse, and
re-work, while fully retaining functionality of the original code. It has
many options to control all aspects of code hiding, and has full support
for all syntax constructs. It is designed for multi-file projects with
mixed C and C++ source and arbitrary heavy use of the C preprocessor. It
includes advanced tools to exclude API symbols from mangling.

Changes: Now spaces between tokens in more cases are inserted when jamming
code, in order not to confuse compilers. More presets have been added for
protecting source code to the Web-based GUI. The default browser is used
