System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Nmap ("Network Mapper") is a utility for network exploration,
administration, and security auditing. It uses IP packets in novel ways to
determine which hosts are available online (host discovery), which TCP/UDP
ports are open (port scanning), and what applications and services are
listening on each port (version detection). It can also identify remote
host OS and device types via TCP/IP fingerprinting. Nmap offers flexible
target and port specifications, decoy/stealth scanning for firewall and
IDS evasion, and highly optimized timing algorithms for fast scanning.
Changes: This release includes a rewritten (for speed and memory
efficiency) port scanning engine, ARP scanning, a new man page, runtime
interaction, 'l335 ASCII art, massive version detection improvements, MAC
address spoofing, increased Windows performance, 500 new OS detection
fingerprints, completion time estimates, a GTK2 frontend, parallel DNS
resolution, options for sending bad checksums and limiting
retransmissions, source port zero scans, an XSL stylesheet for producing
HTML reports, and much more.

Communications
Desktop Environment
Software Development
About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server system based on the X11
protocol. In addition, NX also translates and embeds the MS Windows
Terminal Server and VNC protocols into X/NX. NX is an order of magnitude
faster than VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec.
By embedding RDP and RFB, it enables users to compress and accelerate
remote Windows and VNC sessions. NX lets you work fluently even across
slow links like modems. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and
X11 proxying agents implementing efficient compression and optimized
transport of X11, SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio over
the Internet.
Changes: This release simplifies the steps to run the NX sessions and
includes a number of fixes and improvements: images couldn't be downloaded
when running NX Web Companion on the Safari browser, the Cancel button
available in the applet panel could remain frozen, and there were possible
failures when upgrading the plugin installation on Windows. The diagnostic
messages when the session can't be started are improved. The ability to
suspend and resume the plugin installation has been added. Redirection has
been added to the referrer page if the RedirectUrl parameter is not
specified in the applet HTML file.

Tue, Jan 31st 2006 10:52
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: ProGuard is a free Java class file shrinker, optimizer, and
obfuscator. It can detect and remove unused classes, fields, methods, and
attributes. It can then optimize bytecode and remove unused instructions.
Finally, it can rename the remaining classes, fields, and methods using
short meaningless names. The resulting jars are more compact and more
difficult to reverse-engineer. Advantages of ProGuard compared to other
Java shrinkers and obfuscators are compact template-based configuration,
memory efficiency, and speed.
Changes: This release mainly fixes bugs in the optimisation step. These
were sometimes causing verification errors in the processed code. The
handling of methods with complex visibility has been improved for the
obfuscation step. The documentation and examples have been updated.

Tue, Jan 31st 2006 13:24
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: Stunnix Perl Web Server is an advanced Web server developed for
writing browser-based applications and database-driven catalogues or
presentations that reside on CDROM or DVD, internally implemented as
Perl-driven or PHP-driven Web sites that store data in a database also
located on CDROM. It produces a single CD that works on Windows, Mac OS X,
and Linux/x86, without requiring any additional software on the user's
computer. All an author needs to do to build a cross-platform
browser-based application or CDROM is to copy scripts to their proper
directories. HTML::Mason and mod_perl-like execution modes are supported
for Perl-driven Web sites.
Changes: This release adds support for the PHP extensions domxml, iconv,
and mbstring on all platforms. It adds a configuration file option to
specify the port from which the Web server should start scanning free
ports. It adds the ability to start up to 3 programs before and up to 3
programs after running the browser.

[063] - SWAMP 1.4
by digitaltom (http://freshmeat.net/users/digitaltom/)
Tue, Jan 31st 2006 21:47
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
About: SWAMP is a workflow processing platform in which the workflow is
designed in an XML based language in one file which is read by the SWAMP
server. It avoids hardcoding business logic, and workflows can be built
from different workflow "patterns" like simple actions, decisions,
selections, loops, and custom code. The SWAMP server automatically creates
a Web GUI from the workflow definition file that guides users through the
business logic process based on their roles. Notification is sent if
required. Overview pages over all running workflows and much more are
available.
Changes: Static roles were added. Admins and workflow owners can add
Databits to running workflows. The DisplayWorkflow page of WebSWAMP was
improved. Files can be attached (uploaded) to a workflow. The scheduler
was inactive in the public 1.3 release. WorkflowVerifier was enhanced by
catching more possible mistakes in workflow definitions. Build problems in
the 1.3 release were fixed.

internationalized. The messages are managed in the MH format, so you'll be
able to use it together with another mailer that uses the MH format.
Changes: When moving, copying, or deleting a collapsed thread, all the
messages in the thread are processed now. A 'Mark thread as read' feature
was implemented. The keys on keypad are now also recognized in the summary
and message view. The window size of the address book is now remembered.
IPv6 is now supported on Win32. Some bugfixes were made.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: Wechselspieler is a tool for mapping motion data from a video
stream onto sound events in the MIDI and OSC protocols. It features a GUI
for easy selection of trigger regions in a video stream and mapping these
to individual sound events. It supports various video input sources, such

supports ALSA based MIDI devices and the UDP based OSC (OpenSoundControl)
protocol for integration with MIDI hard/software and OSC-capable software
like PD, SuperCollider, and Max/MSP.
Changes: This release feature two main improvements. The MIDI output
device is selectable if your machine has more than one (e.g. a USB
device). The FireWire input code has been reactivated. There seems to be a
bug in the GStreamer library leading to a latency between the camera and
captured image growing over time. The UI and code have been polished.
